Yeah, unless you wanna embroider each little part onto the fabric, drawing up the print and getting it custom printed is the way to go. You could go either with cotton or chiffon I think. I'm personally drawing a print to get made into custom fabric myself right now, and would appreciate what people have to say about spoonflower and other custom printing companies.

What kind of cotton fabric is usually used now? Sateen, twill, broadcloth, or something else? Would chiffon be for trims and underlayers? I can't imagine it for the main body, it would be so thin and unstructured.

I sell designs there. It's decent. If its pricing isn't make or break for you then it's a convenient and creative way to print and make certain things. The fabrics they have are fine, unless you buy their cheapest offering, which is still fine for simple craft projects.

Apologies anon, I'm a bit of a noob and shouldnt have replied. I am not too well versed with weave types. I have a few dresses from AP where the print is on the chiffon as an overlay above another layer or two for lining and structure. I've done it before with a dress and I think it works out fine. Hopefully another, more experienced, anon can help provide insight.
