What would this commercial be like if it was made now?

I hate all the social media " influencer s" wannabe who goes to cons and all the nomies who are not into anime/ manga who attend because geek culture is "cool" now.

I remembered when cons were smaller with people who talk about non-mainstream series. It was also easy to meet Japanese guests and people actually knowing who there were. ( i met Amano in high school at a con with 5000 people, he sketched for people and there were maybe 20 people in line, now it's impossible)

Social Media being the biggest changer that led to the whole "Cosfame" and eventually "Pateron Lewd" cosplayers becoming a thing, which as such led a number of normies to cosplay now by being thots.

It would include western stuff like Marvel , walking dead and funko pops

Looking at the state of the cosplay community, I can actually appreciate how guarded the lolita community is and how strict the rules are as to what is and isn't in the fashion. I honestly think the cosplay scene could have benefited from something like that, so costhots couldn't call their attention thirst "cosplay"

girugamesh was a 2009 meme? I thought it was like 2005/6 or something.

What's worse it has gotten worse with time.
First we had titty windows by people like Jessica Nigri and Yaya Han which people defended to death as to saying it is okay so it became accepted.

Then we got Cosplay Paterons where people would simply just wear underwear and be nearly naked and call it "cosplay". People also defended that to death and said "lewd" cosplayers are okay.

I wouldn't be surprised if the next step is "professional" cosplayers start going into straight up porn and argue to death that it is okay and still "cosplay".

Cosplay, costume play, it's not that deep. Who gives a fuck about your purist standards? The market has voted with their wallets, patreon costhots are here to stay. I cosplay often and I'd rather put good energy into my workmanship than waste time gnashing my teeth over half dressed hussies who can't sew a thing.

Cons have changed, though skimpy cosplay and people looking for excuses to be half naked is not new. Cons have become bigger, marketable events instead of little hobby groups having a chat and a viewing of their fave animes. As we age, we become more critical; it's no longer a nice gathering place to be silly with your friends, it's a place to buy merch and hope for a half decent panel. I do miss the old days, but I am aware that I was naive and full of excitement.

A lot more normalfags. The cosplays seem to have gotten a lot higher quality though.

This is why I left cosplay for lolita. I hope to God lolitas stay bitchy and don't let this cancer take over there.

I think part of that is because people don't just make stuff by simply going at it anymore, now you find plenty of youtube videos and tutorials for pretty much anything cosplay related you want.

you mean, this isn't the case already?

I find it funny when people talk about cosplay being on a decline. In my area the costumes only get better and better every year. I think there's too many cynical people looking for reasons as to why they can no longer enjoy things they used to love. Just accept that you're getting older and you won't get as much attention as younger more attractive people anymore.

But I will say that with the wider appeal of nerd culture we are getting more normal people going to cons which used to be a different world for nerdy interests. Now the crowd feels like any other day except some people are wearing costumes.

Attending out of state cons has gotten more expensive due to supply and demand of hotels. Just look at what happened to Magfest, Katsucon and Dragoncon. Hotels are now charging $300-$1500 per night for non con rate rooms now.

Same. I enjoy cosplaying every once in awhile, be it with some friends or for the fun of dressing up like a character I like. But I can't be too deep in the community anymore.

For all the outspoken rotteness that you see or hear about online, the Lolita comm in general is pretty chill and relaxed as well as still fairly close-knit. I feel like the worst of our drama comes from the worst situations (Mr. Yan, john leigh, or you know that girl that charged back several thousand in egl sales eons ago) Everything else is pretty small.

We don't get the level of creeps either. I'd rather bitch about sissies than worrying about creepy photogs and shit anyday.

Found the overpositive costhot that wants to pander to fat wallets.
