Has this ever happened to someone else? This is the first time I've ever had someone take a listing meant for me and my proxy, and am a bit appalled the seller is allowing this to happen to as I've always thought the items goes to who they consent to in the comments.

This has happened to me a few times. If you read the listing description or even sometimes the profile of the seller, they’ll state whoever pays first gets the item. It’s not always stated, but usually somewhere. The only time the item is “guaranteed yours” is if there’s a dedicated listing for you.

I follow a japanese guy on instagram that does full on custom anime embroidery. He does it all himself on some vintage machine and he's insanely good, so I assume his prices must be pretty steep. Either way, it's at least a great source of inspiration, even if you can't afford to commission him. He goes by Shishumania, at least both on instagram and his own website, if I'm not mistaken.

It's a subunit, and pretty popular for a rarepair. You're not the only people who likes them.
>same idea
Most shipbags split the characters down the middle, and what do they share other than that? There isn't even any shared merch.
>same bag
This is the only one I can vaguely see, but even then, it's weak. Are they both custom-sewn bags or something? Which one is the alleged copy, top or bottom?

>> No.9966589

>>9966558
Both custom sewn, the bottom one is the original.

See if they'd just used the same base it wouldn't be a flag, but to custom sew to look like another bag is a bit of a dick move. The fact you can't tell which came first proves the point.

>> No.9966597

>>9966558
I guess? Still, I think you're blowing things out of proportion. The fabric is different, and more importantly, the must-more-unique handles were left alone. This feels much closer to "they thought the striped look was neat" than "they tried to make a clone of that bag".

>The fact you can't tell which came first proves the point.
No, it was the half-assed mirroring in the bottom bag. The top bag is lighter on content, but every piece of merch matches perfectly, so it feels organized. The bottom bag has some matching merch, some semi-matching merch (same style, different set), and some that doesn't match at all.

A moment of silence for this anon

I recently missed out on a rare item that got re relaeased, and I cannot begin to describe how salty I am about it.
I’ve been trying to stop compulsively buying but of course when I stop myself and wait the item is sold out completely. I heard about people buying multiples of the damn item, like I can get doing it for a bag or something but I know for a fact people are buying just to scalp the shit out of them later.
It’s all very frustrating.

I was thinking the same thing. A BNHA group that I’m part of was freaking out about the nendos getting a limited rerelease, and a couple of people were buying 3 of each the characters. And were looking for other places to buy off of when they reached the max limited to purchase off of amiami. Some of the lame excuses were “if I need to sell later I’ll def make a profit” and “he’s my favorite character I don’t want anyone else to buy him so I’m going to be a mooch!”
That’s just wrong to me...especially since a lot of people weren’t able to get them or having to buy off of places that cancel orders if there arn’t any left. So preordering isn’t always a guarantee
I just bought one Bakugou as I really wanted him but I couldn’t afford it at the time of the first release, and I was waiting/praying for the rerelease but I’m really excited and I can’t wait to incorporate him into my Itabag

For people that have to make merch from things like caps from manga, anime, etc; do you ever alter the caps to make it more cohesive/aesthetically pleasing? I was thinking of taking the screencaped pictures from the episodes my favorite character is in, editing out the background, and replacing it with a diamond pattern in their color.

its ok to spend years collecting the stuff you really don't need it all THIS EXACT MINUTE. One anon has spent nearly 2 years on her bag because of slow releases
> don't get into debt. If you're a poorfag it's fine to budget and save slowly.
Adding onto that: this is a luxury hobby for people with cash to burn. It's time to accept that you can't afford it. Pay your bills first.
> don't buy bootlegs.
Not only does it go against the entire point of the hobby, imagine showing your bag of knockoffs to the people who created what you love. Not only is it a huge insult to the makers, it's extremely harmful to the industry as a whole
> don't buy bootleg bags either
This is the reason to alice stopped selling theirs, berry q only does limited preorders and wego discontinued their entire ordinal range. You are literally putting companies out of their business. Also they're fucking shit quality why would you put your $500 merch in a $15 bag retard
> dont use fanmerch when your series is shitting official
Seriously your re:zero bag has no excuse. Its nice to support artists but this is a nearly exclusively western thing and japanese artists and baggers do not approve, nor do they do this themselves. Jp artists also get extremely upset if you use their art in a bag with official merch.
> dont put flashing lights in your bag

I don't think it's being sensitive at all. It's one thing for shrines to be posted as "inspiration" or just in an image dump, it's another if it's blatantly a comparison point. Fair enough, but if it's like a keychain or something I bought it and it's not like I'm stealing and reposting art like most people do.
>country where if there's official merch, you'll most likely be able to get it
Most of the fanmerch I personally use is as an accent since the series I'm currently working on has barely any official merch, once again I don't see the problem since I bought it and I'm not doing a series like love live or boku no hero or something that has a ton of official merch
>hobby about showing devotion to something vis consumerism
This one more depends on the person and the bag, if it's a series with a ton of official merch and people are using fanmerch I get were you're coming from but if it's a series with little to no official merch I disagree.

I just think that as long as you're not using fanmerch as a cheap way out to prevent yourself from buying official merch than it's fine, that Sakura bag using some fan merch from a few threads back was a great example of that.

I've thought about this a lot myself. Some things I haven't seen mentioned yet:
>how to put cards and stickers in bags, trimming down/dealing with tacky white edges on stickers
>the basics of making an insert, what materials to use, what fabrics to avoid
>pinning from behind that bag/fabic
>handy tools to have, ie curved safety pins, a pair of pliers or 2 to take keychains and clasps off things, extra jump rings for those charms that just come on a ball chain and need a ring to pin through
>how to actually take chains off as mentioned above, how it doesn't ruin merch, just store them somewhere in case you want to resell or such
>how to find a jp char/series names online to copy+paste for better searching

Seconding a lot of stuff already mentioned, esp patience, saving/budgeting, avoiding bootlegs, and the fact that bags are a shrine to shit you really love.

I'd elaborate more on the little/no merch problem: tell them about wackybuttons, commissioning people for art to make into merch, using things associated with a character, etc.

People mentioned the differences between itabags and conbags, I personally think just explaing what is and isn't an itabag is a lot simpler:
>an itabag isn't any bag with a clear window/cover; tell them what a base bag is
>an itabag isn't any bag that's covered in pins/charms/etc
Also the best way I've thought of to explain what's acceptable as an itabag theme is that it must be specific and cohesive. "Anime" and "enamel pins" are neither of these. "Things I like might be specific, but it's not going to be cohesive. Characters, ships, ensembles, shows, series, and characters voiced by a certain seiyuu all fit. Genres also fit as long as they're contained to on medium, 'horror' would be too broad, but 'horror movies' could work, even more so if you narrow it from there based on time period, country of origin, etc.

Posterity?

Look anon, in all seriousness I'm sorry your life is so bad you find enjoyment in watching someone else suffering. I get you've probably been bullied at school, if you had a job you didn't hate (or a job at all) and friends who actually liked you, maybe your life wouldn't be so bad you'd stoop this low for reactions on an anonymous message board.

Heart goes out for your sorry existence anon. Girl who destroyed her merch was at least capable of emotions unlike you. I really honestly pity you more than her right now .

How is it weird? If you're having a mental breakdown you don't exactly have rational thoughts. I'd imagine posting photos was the only option they had to vent out what they'd done. It's not exactly something you can call your family round you come take a look at is it? This is her validation to herself, an irrational behaviour to the rest of us.

What's sick is people laughing at it and posting images for fun

Look there isn't anything a bunch of anons on 4chan can do for this person.

Whatever this person is going through they used itabagging and retail therapy to make themselves better and now they longer do. They need professional help and learn to help themselves and cope in a healthier way. Yeah, we can stand here and say we support them, but at the end of the day it's up to them to make the initiative to get better.

I wish them the best and hope they can get through whatever's hurting them, but posting it onto the threads is just going to have it derail into the mess it is now.

>> No.9973334

>>9973312
The person who originally posted caps didn't do it to make this person feel better. They had shit intentions and wanted to stir shit on cgl. They even came back and posted the full images. Disgusting.

>> No.9973360

This hurts the most because it's someone who has been a positive part of the cgl itabagging community for so long. Literally for years, since before there was a facebook or a discord, and has been posting help, in-depth tutorials, and advice the entire time they've been here.

We've talked about mental health and itabagging before in these threads. Many anons have talked about how this hobby is a coping mechanism, and it hits a weird trifecta of shopping/escapism/crafting that it works as a prolonged bouncing board for a long time.

I'm sorry that for this anon it wasn't enough anymore.

I hope this is the turning point for them getting help that they need, and being happy in the long run. Even if that means never even looking at this hobby again, I wholeheartedly hope they find happiness.

For Akiba, go to Radio Kaikan, lashinbang, and there are a bunch of surugayas and liberty stores which also sell tons of goodies.
I also suggest going to otome road in ikebukuro! Hit up all the kbooks and you are bound to find something. And if you have time, highly recommend Nakano Broadway.

Make sure you take your time and dig through all the bins, some items are very tucked away. I honestly spent an entire day just in Akiba looking for my husbando on my last trip over. Found him eventually.

Alright high potential that I'm just fucking retarded but I don't get why this is a bad idea.
>doesn't melt your sticker
>clear
>lets you stick other shit on the back (washi tape etc)
>keeps it from getting scratched

Obviously it tanks resale value but merch has no resale value to begin with outside of extremely rare or FOTM pieces, and I don't see how it's worse than a clear chemical sealant so long as it's all trimmed around the edges and not trashy looking. I am willing to be wrong I just don't get it.

What.

It's bad because it's causing permanent damage to your merch under the guise of protecting it from permanent damage.

>> No.9976042

>>9976028
The tape yellows over time. If you no longer care about the bag, then fine, whatever, worse thing is you can't sell it, but if you do, then now you have an ugly charm that you cannot fix. Ironic too, your method of protecting your merch has now damaged it.

>What
People with actual good bags at cons that I've talked to have been stickershocked at me paying ~$20 per acrylic (in-demand character, series with lots of merch, I thought this was cheap but I have no idea anymore). There's obviously rare/expensive merch out there and I wouldn't stick tape on that but I don't see why people would get anal over something for less than $20.

That does make sense though thank you. Obviously leaving it in the default state is best I just didn't get why packing tape was bad but painted-on sealants are okay despite them being similarly not-removable and chemical sealants having a much greater chance to fuck your life up.

Anon

Packing tape turns yellow and discolors after a few months, the glue also erodes over time (give it a year to see the effects). Even if you trim it it'll still peel at the edges. Not to mention the permanent damage to your merch when there's literally 5c acrylic strap protectors you can buy.

I have clear packing tape on my ID badges at work to prevent the barcode getting rubbed off and I have to replace it every couple of months because of the filth that gets stuck to the edge of the tape.

If you love your waifu why would you purposely destroy your merch.

If you're not planning on reselling it then who cares? I see people recommend resin doming to protect acrylics all the time on this board and that's definitely a permanent method that ruins any resale value.

Not all tape yellows. If you get good quality tape and trim it it'll be fine.

Hi Lauren

Yes all clear tape yellows, it's not the tape itself that changes color it's the glue used to affix it. Sorry hun that's just chemistry.

That's the problem, anon. Packing tape isn't good quality. Packing tape WILL yellow with age.

What you would want to use to tape the back of something (if you were going to tape it no matter what) is acid-free archival tape. Archival tape has a special adhesive that doesn't yellow or destroy what it is adhered to. It's most commonly used as an adhesive on mounted art or as a way to strengthen/repair damaged books, and was designed to maintain the integrity of the paper and ink it's adhered to.

Packing tape was designed to keep boxes from falling apart. It yellows. It destroys. Just the nature of the beast.

You mean a resin dome? Its what people do to stickers to turn them into something more substantial. Unless you use UV resin it can yellow just like tape, but even UV resin will yellow if exposed to sunlight (like most things tbf). It's mostly a thing from the pinbag community.

Putting resin on a plastic acrylic is a quick fire way to melt your charm lmao

>> No.9976281

>>9976265
I think we mostly talk about resin doming in the case of stickers not because it's the most long term solution, but because it's the nicest looking solution. It gives stickers more bulk and weight, so that they feel more like an acrylic charm than a piece of laminated paper.

I still wouldn't use it on an acrylic. Doming the back, which is non removal, yellows over time and will probably cause your strap to slide around more due to the curved nature just kind of defeats the point. I mean if you're trying to protect your merch from damage, damaging it isn't the way to go.

I doomed stickers myself though and they look sick would recommend otherwise

>> No.9976417

Doesn't the doc recommend strap covers for acrylics, anyways?

>> No.9976440

EasyCast (which is commonly found in micheals/hobby lobby) is definitely bad in yellowing over time. Higher end resins intended for jewelry making (resin obsession/art resin) would be the thing to use if you were making that leap. But honestly I would never have the guts to be doing all these things to merch that wasn’t commonly available.

It kinda sounds like you want to be spoonfed easy information. You need to figure out the actual name of the merch, not just the listing's name off otamart.
If you're not sure about the name, next is to try and find the series of merch, who produced it, etc.
If you're still stuck, how about you just post the pic of the merch you're trying to get and maybe someone will be kind enough to find it for you.

I know the name of the merch, I've searched for it on other sites, I've reverse-image searched the seller's photo. The only place I can find it is Otamart. It was a limited edition Comiket exclusive two years ago so if Otamart is where the seller listed it, it's probably not going to be anywhere else. The only reason I asked is because I assumed Otamart itself was a proxy given there's only an option to buy via one. Since that's not the case, I'll just find a different proxy to buy it for me.

They're suggesting a proxy because 1. no one wanted to believe you were dumb enough to miss that option and 2. you'll probably get blocked by the seller for having an obvious forwarder address and machine-translated Japanese.

If the item is that important to you, you can afford to shell out for a proxy that can buy it.

>> No.9976678

>>9976648
As stated previously, sites like otamart and mercari basically have user run stores - think storenvy or depop. The reason it's difficult to buy from them is they usually require direct interaction with a seller (who often don't like dealing with proxies or if you are a foreigner, the may not want to sell if you don't have the proper etiquette). Because of the time it takes to purchase items on otamart, many proxies don't like to deal with otamart seller (or they are simply blocked).

So, your best option is to just try other proxies until you find one who can purchase the item. Try to look for smaller services who are lesser known and less likely to be blocked by the system.
