Definitely ready, it's been a long time since I've been to a con.
Aizawa from Boku no Hero Academia, and Dante from devil may cry (his new design if i have time between when we see more and the con) or just whatever i can throw together.

Mentally, totally. Cosplay-wise, I could use a bit more time. This was my first year not going to Ohio Colossal, so I've been especially antsy for vacation con.

Nurse Morrigan and Scáthach from FGO.
I've still got a good bit to go on each lol. Gotta make some armor, a little wig styling, and some small alterations. Should have plenty of time though, pretty easy stuff. I'm excited to make that goddamn syringe, but not excited for the nine hour car ride with it and Scáthach's spear.

Boyfriend and I spend a lot of time in the dealer's hall, not so much in panels but maybe we'll feel some out this year. Mostly I just wanna drink and enjoy how much less crowded it'll be compared to Ohio. Cgl Meetup maybe? I might check out the late night swims, but trying to get a drink during them at Prime took about 45 minutes, idk how crazy it'll be here.

Firstly, enjoy the water park. It was my first colossal last year and didn’t come up with a balance. Then of course drinks, AA/dealers, gaming, and panels if any look good.

Closer to 1k last year but that was its first year. I’m going to say it’ll still be <10k this year but over the next couple years especially as Ohio Colossal continues to sell out rooms for miles it might break 10k.

Ohio Colossal went from 7k to 17k in like 3-4yrs iirc. The pocono location also has less local hotels to serve as overflow.

Oof, yeah, I wouldnt stay outside the Kalahari for East, because it’s very self contained and the biggest draw is the waterpark. The con itself is okay; dealers room and artist alley is combined, panels weren’t too exciting, and the game room was laughable. Either way I had a good time, so if you and your friend are in to socializing with like minded anime fans then you should have fun too.

Im desperately trying to find someone to room with. Im going to be at the masquerade participating in some skit so I need to find someone who can spot me a room asap. Kinda getting worried here...

Pretty easy, just get drunk and wander around with a giant drink in your hand. Offer some to other drunk people. Instant friends. Met a lot of people this way last year, randos were also really friendly at the late night waterpark thing.

Hopefully it's warm enough to have the outdoor park running. Last year it was closed most of the time.

- No floaties in the pools unless you're a toddler and need them to not drown.
- There will likely be normies around the waterpark and lobby area of the resort but they shouldn't be in the convention area.
- Lots of food choices there but can be pricey depending on your budget. There's also a few good restaurants in the general area.
- Parking shouldn't be an issue unless the con massively explodes in one year. Doubtful tho.

I think parking is definitely going to be an issue. The lot filled up last year during peak times, and there's definitely going to be an increase in attendance this year. If there's a lot of rain this week, and they have people parking on the grass, that could easily turn into a shitshow.

Someone in the thread said this had nothing to do with families, it had to do with the con's contract with the hotel ending at noon Sunday, so rules-bending done exclusively for the con no longer applied.

I'm inclined to believe it, honestly. Mostly because the hotel kicking photographers out for taking photos of cosplayers when families and other groups take family photos all the fucking time in waterparks makes no sense.

The people who run Colossal wouldn't be this stupid AND this is the second year in a row. Security super fucked up. People were reprimanded for taking selfies because they had wigs on and their "48 hours were up." Instead of handling the situation professionally, they just told cosplayers that their 2 days were up and now they need to go away so the resort can return to normal. Very unwelcoming and made people feel like the resort doesn't want them there, which is probably true, but you keep that shit to yourself and stay professional when you're on the job, period.

So, it was stated that CCE management was going to be meeting with Kalahari management the day after the convention. Have they said anything about how that went?
I have the feeling CCE may not say another word about until like the day before next year's convention when they tell us "No photography at all in the water park for the entire convention BTW".
CCE couldn't even negotiate a discount of any sort on their insanely expensive water park passes.
The Kalahari probably told CCE if they don't like it they can fuck off. And CCE will bend over and take it since there's really no similar venue in the are for them to hold the convention.
Next year will likely be a rerun or worse.

There was a year during Colossal Prime when a bunch of intern lifeguards were on duty and were heckling people about wigs and cosplay in the waterpark because they'd never even heard of Colossalcon before that weekend. Even if its under different management, the con still has a good degree of pull. The discount passes are likely due to con attendance. Last year they couldn’t do it because as a first year, there was no way to estimate how many would attend who weren’t using free passes you get from the room. Once/If the con gets big enough that more people need discounted passes, it’ll happen.

There was no mentioning of this officially in any of the facebook groups. This was congoer speculation. They are gathering up information from people who were confronted by Kalahari staff/security in the waterpark and are presenting this information to them. As far as the rest of your post, please don't make reactionary assumptions. The convention provides the company with a LOT of money. This is only the second year at this location and was quite unlike last year. The party and photog culture of prime has made it's way over and the Kalahari was swarmed with normies on Sunday likely due to football and a Jewish holiday as I read elsewhere. They probably did not know how to react, combined with parental concerns. Normally this is not a problem at Sandusky because the location is booked solid. This location hasn't reached that point yet, but it will continue to grow. Every year has a new problem and once one problem is fixed, another happens. Miscommunication and problems are normal in event planning, especially in the first few years.
