Are you sure you’re not just having your perception skewed by the over abundance of ugly girls with shit posture and poorly styled hair, wearing prints/colors intended for children?

I really think a massive part of it is poor color choice and pulling all of the hair away from the face too.

Promise I’m not trying to bait with the subject of this image, but at least she looks cohesive. I’m not personally a fan of the color choice, but it looks so much better than the rampant boob-loaf-spilling-over-obi and look.

Meanwhile,
>boob loaf
>bad color choice
>haphazardly pulled back hair

But those are things that generally always look extra bad on thin faced white people. Little thin pin head on a wider looking body looks bad, there has to be some effort in styling. Kimono padding that has to smooth out a larger waist to hip ratio makes it more extreme.

>boob loaf spilling over obi.

Something I was taught (for big ol' tiddies) is to wear a sports bra/no bra and hoist your obi up over up your bust if you need to. It's better to have it too high than to hang over it.
I'd rather squish 'em down than wear padding for the silhouette, because it just makes me look fat.

Sorry, I meant padding as in waist padding for smoothing out the overall silhouette of a curvier frame. Everybody should be wearing a sports or flattening bra if they’re bigger than an A cup.

>> No.9971227

>>9971208
Yeah, wow, I stand corrected. That really doesn’t look as costume-y and tourist-y as usual at all.

I fathomed how much of what made kimono look bad on white women was the hair of all things.

I’ve seen it where with the padding done right it still looked off, but usually the hair was done pulled back and away from the face in a generic prom updo or French twist, throwing off the general look and emphasizing a ‘not right’ feel. The other picture you posted captures this perfectly.

I just assumed it was cognitive dissonance from seeing a white woman in kimono, but this chick looks really well put together without really standing out. I agree with you on colour choice but where it matters like sillhouette and general ‘look’ it actually works.

I just don't know where to look for non-asian girls wearing kimono, all I can find is tourists doing it jokingly. I get all of my inspiration from kimono magazines and jdrama now.

It's more like there isn't that much to be gained here and from context-less pics compared to anywhere else. There's some discussion, but not as much compared to IG and it's harder to verify. Image dumps are inspiring for modern fashions, but a relatively narrow and strict traditional fashion benefits more from guides and shop reviews. Even if you coord in a modern way there's still only so much you can do to be unique. It's more about what you buy and what era you're emulating than personal expression. There's also the whole cultural appropriation people becoming more vocal and people feeling out of place in western countries regardless of race.

Also because it's the same old pics, store recommendations, discussions, and the fashion side of cgl in general is slowing down. I know I'm definitely posting less on all boards. Part of it is captchas, but I've been here for nearly a decade and it's getting really tired. Sometimes regular posters are busy and miss threads too, just like how sometimes threads explode. Kimono threads were always smaller, so every person counts.

When I see white women in yukata at festivals they usually share the same problems. They're overweight, wearing little to no make up, hot roots with unstyled and faded neon hair, and wrong shoe choice. It's not really a big deal because they're tourists, but it's rare to see white women put effort into wearing yukata. It can be done, because I do it and get a lot of compliments and my yukatas and styling are very basic, nothing special. I think people are just excited to see a foreigner make an effort.

you wouldn't happen to have more men's kimono fashion would you? i rarely see anyone talk about it. My main interest is in yoroi but the clothing is interesting to me as well. i am a guy who wears kimono and hakama often, for various reason such as iaido and hobbys, and i rarely get into discussions about it because it is kind of unheard of. The other students at my swordsmanship school know nothing about it and only own the uniform and nothing more.

Most kimono fashion related scans I have are from Taisho and early Showa, and there aren't very many scans of men's fashion from these eras unfortunately, and it doesn't help that men started transitioning to Western clothing earlier and in greater numbers than women. Best bet for that era besides black and white street photos are paintings and ads.

If you're just looking for men's kimono in general, you could try seeing if magazines like Kimono Salon (きものサロン) or Utsukushii Kimono (美しいキモノ) have a men's feature.

yes i am an iaido practitioner, and a kendo practitioner, as well as an overall samurai enthusiast so i end up wearing kimono (or kendogi) and hakama often. i usually wear them around the house because i think they are comfy. a yukata or jinbei when its warm, and a haori or hanten when its cold. i wear my suit of tosei gusoku around sometimes just because i feel like it. it probably helps that my best friend does this too

Dumbass question coming through -

I've Googled it, but just to confirm, a (very) basic yukata outfit is just the yukata and the obi? Nothing else besides geta?

Also, is there a big difference / would you be made fun of for wearing male geta if you're a female? I am cursed with giant american feed (25.5cm) and I am unsure how hard it would be to find geta in that size.

I actually have a lot of experience starting and running Discord community servers, but I don't think I have enough general jfashion knowledge to really be a huge help. I mainly know a bit about Lolita, trying to learn about kimono now, and kinda just know that fairy kei, mori, visual kei, etc exists.

I feel like my biggest fault for running a Discord like this would be my "old fashion" moderation views (such as banning excessive attention whores/complainers) since I do it as a career, and that might piss some people off or call me an elitist/non-inclusive. I guess in short, I am just not a hug box person past a certain extent - but I suppose there are ways to handle it like specific channels and make people keep things like daily photo posts or IRL problem discussions to those channels.

I've seen it happen in a few of my servers, not all, but most predominately in a server for a Korean game I was community managing for there were a lot of people that came in and tried to make everything about them or thought it was a good area to vent about family/personal issues.

Complaints about the subject is completely different from "I don't have $10 to buy this skin, life sucks ;c", etc and they keep doing it or keep deflecting help.

As for attention whores, I am not talking about people posting outfits occasionally and looking for help, I am talking more about self promotion in inappropriate channels, flirting with people/leading people on all the time, or constantly flaunting.

You may be blessed with servers/subjects that have higher standards to get in, or an older audience in general. I've mostly deal with gaming servers admittedly, which can be a very mixed bag. I've always talked to these people beforehand, but some people just don't get it or don't care.

I agree there should be "safe" areas to complain about IRL stuff, but I don't think a public Discord is the appropriate channel, take it to a smaller friend's Discord or PM's, because it can easily make people uncomfortable.

With that much being said, I would love to see a general jfashion server as well.

Remember to style your hair in an up-do, add some tasteful flowers, and instead of geta a lot of women wear cute sandals with a bit of heel or flip flops. Geta are small and it's normal for women's feet to be too large for them. I don't think that's comfortable for most women so it's ok to opt for sandals that fit you instead.

>>10021554
I've seen some few starter kits on etsy, but it depends on what you want to do. I picked yukata to personally start with because I believe it's a bit more simple comparatively, and yukata are machine washable.

To just start practicing, the very basics of what I found so far that you need is:
• At least two waist ties (koshihimo)
• Kimono (Recommend a kimon or yukata as they are both more casual)
• Hanhaba obi (They go with both kimon and yukata) or a pre-tied obi (tsukuri obi)

Will eventually have to get:
• Obi-ita (This is used to keep the obi from wrinkling)
• Juban (To wear under your kimono, though I heard slips are fine as well)

Other possible needs:
• Waist / back padding if you have any sort of curves
• Kimono bra / body shaping bra if you have anything above a size A cup
• Geta / Zori (Not required)
• Obi-jime (Decorative tie around obi)
• Obi-makura (If you plan on using nagoya obi)
• Obiage (Again, if you plan on using nagoya obi)
• Haori (kimono jacket) if it's cold in your area

There is an accessory set available on Rakuten: https://global.rakuten.com/en/store/kimono-asobi/item/komono7ten-set/?scid=af_pc_link_urltxt&sc2id=af_101_0_0

Etsy user "chirimenbunny" has a lot of kimono accessories, but they might be a bit pricier since they are US based.

You can pick up cheap hanhaba / tsukuri obis and yukata for under $20 USD each on Ichiroya though if you're unsure and don't want to dive in head first.

This has been trial and error for me as I just picked up kimono a week ago and it's a lot easier to digest when things are in hand - it was a bit overwhelming for me at first, but I am starting to get the hang of it now!

It's snowing here... and I think snow/winter and pale colors go great together lol. I got a couple of orange kimons with leaf patterns that I thought would be great for fall. I just love that they are comfortable and warm enough to wear in this 20 degree weather, and you can layer under as much as needed.

I feel like we should make a new thread since the image limit has been reached and we've been posting a lot of pictures.

Wish it was snowing here, even though it'd mean freezing my ass off if I wore a kimono. I'll make a new thread.

New bread, since we're over the image limit.
