World Cosplay Summit final tomorrow! Are you excited?

It will be broadcasted live on Niconico at 16:00 Japan time

>> No.9960937

No one gives a shit about this except the people that suck each others ass that participate in it. Fitting for them to go right back to AX and be nothing but an elite snob society that uses convention attendee money to fuck off.

I remember when /cgl/ used to follow this event like it was Super Bowl or World Cups. Now I forget it even exists.

What? You do realise there are 36 countries entering right, not everything is about burgerland

First half was pretty eh, the costumes have been good but most of the skits are very lackluster.
>>9961605
Pretty much

Almost every skit has been fighting skit. Do something else for a change

Yea. It makes the skit dynamic but the choreography can be stiff and uninspired.

They really deserved it!
It was my favourite act this year.

>> No.9961670

Mexico killed it, it was so sweet to watch the guy who did Chun Li when they received first prize, he was holding that award so tight against his chest and trying not to cry.
Good job!
Also not surprised in the slightest at Denmark taking the Brother award, gorgeous costumes.

>> No.9961702

Mexico had a great at but costume wise, meh.
I feel like cosplay competitions should be more about the craft than about the preformance,

WCS always value performance over costume tho, craftsmanship is 100 points out of 300 total.
The whole point of it is to promote Japan through pop culture, international exchange, etc etc. The whole thing is broadcasted so, the "show" aspect is arguably most important in this particular contest.
There's plenty other int. contests for craftsmanship anyway, I personally enjoy this one for the whole "show" side of it, all the little events before the contest itself, the parades, etc.
All pics and vids I see make it look super fun and doesn't feel as "stressful"/strict competition wise, even tho it's the biggest world competition, for me as a viewer at least.
Either way, there's a specific prize for craftsmanship so, it's not like hardwork goes unnoticed.

I think the other thing you're forgetting is that it's completely possible for a simpler costume to do well. As long as they embody and portay the character well with great accuracy and a clean finish, they won't be overlooked.
Even though Dhalsim is simple to pull off, it just doesn't feel right unless you have the correct body and look to make the performance believable. What made them the winners for me is that it looked like he'd walked out of the TV screen.

I also think that a guy cosplaying a girl with very obvious feminine features was a bold move, but it was successful and they put the time into making it work for him. I couldn't quite catch the exchange, but it sounds like they padded his butt and everything - something that most crossplayers neglect to do.

Hopefully they'll be pioneers for other male entrants in the future.

>>9961735

I really felt for them. It was cringe but it reminds me of ten or so years ago when even the most developed countries had a hard time sourcing things or praying that someone would upload a tutorial to make a certain cosplay. They probably felt really out of their depth in the changing rooms and backstage, and if that was their best, I wonder what the other potential qualifiers were like.

I looked Team India up and one states herself as the most successful and highest paid cosplayer in India whilst the other says she graduated from the best fashion university in the country.

Their self written bios made their ill-fitting and poorly constructed costumes embarrassing rather than making me feel bad for them.

Let's hope that it was a sobering experience for them then.
