What are the languages spoken at Drachenfest ? Can I as a non-kraut go there alone and expect to find people of my origin (France) ?

I've found a whole group of french players two years ago there, so probably you can do it too.

But as for different languages, the blue camp (they are the most international as far as I know) for example have over 15 different nationalities, nowdays probably more than 20.
The Gold camp also has it's share of random people from all around the word, and the rest of the camps aren't homogeneous either

I mean to be honest, I don't think most LARP films very well. I love LARP but from a camera's perspective, it's hard to make it look good. The best way to hype new people up in my experience is to tell them cool stories and get them involved with the older players before game. Talk about their character concept, help them make their costumes, etc etc. Get them involved. That's going to go way farther than some vids (which, unless you're playing in a larger LARP, probably won't be representative) can.

It's not out there yet but the LARP documentary from Mionfilms would spring right in the mind's eye. Otherwise go for LARP trailers like Adeptus's (Nejasná budoucnost 3 - Adeptus on yt) or the big LARPs like Epic Empires, Drachenfest (Blu Marone hurensohne) or above all Conquest (try getting shots of Flowerfield).

Hey folks,

My girlfriend is getting more into the combat side of LARP but her chest is very sensitive when struck. She prefers to play less combative healer-type roles because this is holding her back from fighting. She isn't very interested in using a shield, but is considering armor. What armors would you suggest that would be somewhat light and work well in hot weather?

I have a lot of supplies (cloth and leather) but not a lot of leather working experience. I have suggested something more on the plate side before but I haven't even completed my own breastplate yet. I think the right direction might be a leather breastplate and cuir bouille if necessary?

A complete metal cuirass with metal fasteners and some soft padding underneath. Pic related.

Anything else will just bend and not really dampen a blow significantly. If you are on a budget then you can check out stahlgilde or hit up facebook marketplaces.

It's fucking sick, but a pity about the "metal" parts. Look at the shape of the helmet, the shoulder plates and the belt piece. They're either made of plastic or such a low kind of bendy steel you can't even call it that anymore.

If he'd just gone the extra mile and either bought or made some actual armour it wouldn't make it look like he spent some cash on the best armour Aliexpress could offer.

About the helmet I'm not sure where it's from, either could be from a larpshop or a custom made one.

That said, none of those are a problem because the guy clearly did an awesome job tailoring the pieces for the character. He might got a better result from better equipment but overall he is still far above average and that's what counts

Honestly I don't know what I would be playing, I thought of just getting all that together, a few small weapons along with the staff and dagger, and then going to a convention (or whatever it would be called for LARPing)

I just plan on using it to slip in and figure out what I want to do, to get a feeling for the fests and decide things from there
I feel like I'm writing a lot here but the idea I have in mind with this simple set up is to use it as a base from which to build what I want to be, add things onto it over time. DnD, along with the newest God of War, have had some impact in deciding to do this (have mercy on me)

I really like that first picture I posted bcause it's simple, nice looking on it's own, but it has such potential to be greater but is good enough on it's own

If you'd like to keep it simple, I suggest you don't, because it would be too much.
I'm no expert, but I also think it would be out of place to have plate on your legs, and chainmail on your chest, you know, as they aren't from the same time perod. Would be nice to have a progression over the years though, if your character is becoming more and more of a warrior, then add plate and such.

When people wore more than one belt, it was for obvious bearing purpose. A sword would have a dedicated belt for example, as you don't want it to drag down your normal belt, and swords have greater need of being removed both socially and practically. Your girdle belt with your purse and dagger would never be removed without good reason.

Don't call it a stretch. Historic use supports it, and my own professional experience wearing a sword for a living reaffirms it.

I've been told its been pretty good for only being around for a year. Its Aluminum/Stainless Lamellar with leather bazubands for my arms. I've been thinking about getting one of the Mongol-esque Brigandines in titanium for crossgame use. I'm not used to wearing steel on my arms and legs, so that would take some getting used to. A, being the leading edge, where the quillions rest, should be cut to a length to accommodate the full diameter of the weapon being sheathed, plus a tolerance to allow ease of insertion and removal. In this instance, I used 8-9 oz. leather as the material for the sheath, and out of concern for my weapon I allowed additional tolerance for the inclusion of a faux fur insert to both protect the weapon and to allow a more snug fit. [The greenish fur you see out the back end]

B, the length from the lead edge to the trailing edge (farthest from where the quillions rest), should be sufficiently long enough to provide stability when holstered for the weapon, so use your best judgment here.

Additional note, if using a rigid medium such as unmilled leather, it may be best to provide additional cushioning along the leading edge [A] to both prevent damage to your weapon and prevent unnecessary wear to your sheath. I opted to do a simple cord weave along the leading edge with easily replaceable milled leather lace here.

I'm an absolute beginner, what equipment and supplies do i need to make a decent looking jerkin and fancy landscknecht dress?
I want to start working on fancy medival inspired to late reneissance inspired clothing and i want to start with something.

Well, as always, depends on everything.

If you want a SIMPLE jerkin, similar what I make you need 3-4 mm thick leather, preferably cow leather, vegetable tanned.
Then you need an awl or some pointy round cross section implement to punch holes, two ow those half circle big needles (at least that's what was most comfortable for me) and thread for leather sewing. Plus hatred for yourself and a some time to kill.
And some kind of oil, I use linseed oil because it's cheap and works just fine, but you could use rape oil or nearly any plant oil.

For a landsknecht dress? I wouldn't recommend to start with that if you never done anything like that, though a tellerberret is easy enough to practice on. and a shirt is doable too with minimal experience. I would reccommend those for a start . For those you just need basic sewing equipment a steady hand and hatred for everything plus time to kill. (the tellerberret might need a strawhat or wire, or something else depending on what kind you want)

Some people are really good at playing the victim card and the current political correctness push in Amtgard only encourages them. Our champion is in a polyamorus relationship with two women. He's also currently married, but he doesn't live with his wife because she kicked him out because of his constant cheating. He always picks his girlfriends to be reeves or NPCs even though they aren't reeves qualified. The fighters complain because the girlfriends don't know how to call shots correctly during tournaments and they stand around talking to each other instead of paying attention to what they're supposed to be doing. When they play NPCs, they only share quest items/information with the players that they like and intentionally exclude the players that they don't. If his wife shows up, they're constantly trying to pick fights with her. When new female players show up to his park, he hits on them until they eventually get creeped out and leave. His girlfriends get jealous around other girls, so they tend to spread malicious gossip about them or attempt to ostracize the ones that stick around. A lot of people have stopped going to his home park because they don't want to deal with the drama he causes. His park is about to be downgraded to a shire because attendance is so low. At one point, the park had duchy numbers. He's a toxic player, but he never gets in trouble because he's been a knight for 20+ years and he'd good at exploiting the rules to benefit himself and he’s good at manipulating others. If anyone complains about him or his girlfriends, he claims that he's being discriminated against because of his lifestyle choices.
