Looked through catalog, couldn't find one, need one, so let's start one.

I recently obtained my god-tier DD but problem is I'm a oldschooler.... and now have next to nothing to coord my DD with. Any suggestions? Collages? Can I still use oldschool-style or oldschool-inspired accessories to complete this coord? Challenge mode: Incorporate the bright sunset orange in this dress pls thanks anons

Hmm this is a tricky one! I would suggest trying to take out the white and blue in the print with your blouse and leg wear, and then Mabey bring out the orange in your shoes, and headwear? Mabey a nice sun hat with a big orange bow around it. I also think bringing out brown tones would look nice and tie in with the houses in the print.
I’m just splurging ideas rn in my head but I hope that helps in some way! Good luck!

I completely ignored the old school aspect for this collage, but if you wanted to take it that way I don't see why not - I can see it being done in a old-school inspired way with a princess sleeve blouse, rectangle headdress, plain knee socks and elegant mary janes, however you could go for a chiffon blouse, tulle lace on the headdress and subtly patterned socks with tulle lace.

In terms of the bright orange, if you wanted to keep very Venice-themed you could look for Murano glass miniatures that have been turned into jewellery - I think they do cats a lot and that would be a cute way to incorporate the theme beyond the two blindingly obvious stars and masquerade masks which I've gone for here.

I wouldn't do any other main accessories in orange, but if you want to stick to old school styling maybe choose white pieces with blue accents, ie white cotton blouse, white lace knee socks with blue side ribbons, blue headbow with white lace, and then throw in some orange cameo jewelry as a brooch or as rings.

So I'm terrible with photo planning so take the pic as inspo. I don't know if white or cream is better to match the jsk so you'll have to figure that out.

Headwear: Brown or white (felt hat with ribbons to match jsk or headbow) Add some orange touches
Blouse: White square neck chiffon but with a jacket I'd go with a peter pan collar or high neck.
Outerwear: Brown, light blue or cream. I'd be interested to see what a navy cardigan looked like with it.
Brooch/rosette: Add some orange touches and details to mtach the print. Rosette in pic is from Etsy MissDangerShop.
Legwear: harlequin socks would be cute
Shoes: cream or brown
Bag: cream or brown

I've had this dress for a while and am sick of wearing it with only black (like the picture on the left). I came across this blog photo with a navy blouse and although I like it, it seems quite difficult to get it to work given that the dress is black and purple with big chunks of black (and black x navy is polarizing at times it seems). The purple is a bitch to match, and I do not own the matching headwear, only matching socks. Is well-colourblocked navy something that might work here? Maybe navy shoes and bag, or am I doomed to look like I got dressed in the dark? I do have a purple and navy hair accessory that picks up on a similar purple to the ribbon on the edge of the border print, so that could help it look more intentional.

Navy would work because it pulls out the blue in the purple, but I personally think it would be a bit jarring with the black bustle at the back. If navy, I would go with navy tights and headwear and then black shoes.

You could also try a brown blouse that matches the cats or a ivory/white blouse that matches the paper on the dress.

>>9901440
Try white, light grey, ivory or brown. Even sax, navy or that orange-red colour might work.

>> No.9901615

>>9901438

I want to say it could work, but it'd have to be something you balance really carefully, and using black as a buffer -- so more like a navy x black coord with a purple dress, if that makes sense. It's hard to tell if the hair accessory would help without seeing it, even if the colours match perfectly it'd also have to be a decent size that isn't too big or too small, match the theme and the style of the outfit as well.

I'd also suggest you try it as an experiment, rather than planning it for your next meetup -- if it works, great, but if it doesn't, maybe have another coord to fall back on.

If you're bored of coording it with all-black, I'd have gone with adding white -- the paper shapes in the print are pretty large visually, so I think white stands a good chance of looking good with it. Or mix white and black into the coord, maybe with purple accents, or if you can't swing that, then gold or brown musical instruments (like as a bag accent or a hairpin or a brooch).

Skirt:
Little Dipper has a custom underskirt, 55 cm option would work well. Black is an obvious choice but grey, white and wine would be interesting choices (depending on what else you have planned for the coord).

If you prefer something brand, you can try to track down one of Baby's all-black old-school skirts, they generally have really nice lace and ruffles that would look nice in the opening. I think VM's Royal Lacy dress would also work as an underdress, giving you a skirt and blouse in one, but it's on preorder at the moment, which means you won't be able to wear it until it ships a few months later.

For petticoat, Closet Child carries one in their shop that'll ship immediately, if you prefer not to wait.

Yea, that's not really working. I'd go with black lace tights and navy shoes. The bag works allright. I'd try for a pearl necklace instead of an all-gold one, there's something about the white pearls in the blog photo coord that seems to help balance the darkness of the blouse.

If the rose doesn't match the navy blue on the blouse and other items I'd ditch that as well. Just assuming here that's it's a colour correction problem.

Blouse:
- you do need a new blouse, but not because of sleeves. The dress looks rather prim and proper. So does the bonnet. The socks too. So do your shoes. Except your blouse.

Your blouse has a nice wide neckline that says "casual and easy". So the end result is you look like a "casual and easy" sloppy girl tried to dress up prim and proper for the day, but you failed that final 10% with a casual blouse instead of a prim and proper one.

Hime sleeves doesn’t matter as much as that wide collar. If you don’t want to buy a proper lolita blouse, at least chose something high-necked so it looks more proper than casual.

- red/wine shoes:
The mistake here is that you put a pink bow on your outfit, and also covered up your face with a pink sticker. The dress has an equal amount of pink and red flowers, but the bows on the dress are already pink, adding pink to the blouse and your face (yes, I realise it’s a sticker, which is why cgl is picking on it and it probably looks better irl). The extra pink skews the whole outfit towards pink rather than red. That’s why the red looks shoehorned in.

Just switch your neck bow to a matching red ribbon, and add a red bag charm to your bag. That should tie things in.

Bag doesn’t really match anything, but like I said, put a red or pink bag charm on it and it’ll be fine.

- Brolly/parasol:
This is simply cool-toned while everything else you’re wearing is warm-toned. I do recommend brand, but only because they’re usually careful about always using warm white — their main clientele are Japanese and Chinese, their skintones tend to look like shit in cool-toned white, so unless you’re really unlucky, most white things you buy from them will be warm-toned white.

If you still want to use offbrand, maybe switch to a pink brolly instead, can’t mess up mixing whites if it’s not white.

You have a few options, actually.

- If you have enough white things — white blouse and legwear, then simply wear that with black accessories. Keep an eye on the balance so the black items are secondary to the white and it’ll be fine.

- Use it as an overdress, Pink House style. Layer it over another dress, or use a blouse + skirt combo underneath. Leave the skirt fully unbuttoned on the pintuck dress, maybe even pin it open with a brooch or something. It works easier if you start out as if trying to make an apron coord, except the opening of the apron is in front instead of the back.

- Use it as an underdress/underskirt, if you have pieces that can go over it. There’s an old VM overdress that’s meant to be worn over other things, and there’s the odd bustle skirt that doesn’t come with its own underskirt, you can layer them on top of this dress.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean when you say the wide neck blouse looks "easy." It has a peter pan collar, but I tucked that under the jsk because the jsk has a built-in collar and having two peter pan collars look weird. I do usually wear stand-collar blouses with this jsk for this reason, but because of the heat I decided to try something different. Should I just stick with stand-collars all the time?
Also, the pink bow is built in to the dress, I didn't add it.

"Easy", because it's easy to wear -- something that you throw on quick so you can go lie down on the sofa all day, rather than spend the day making sure you’re sitting up straight so you don’t skew your fussily-collared blouse. Maybe the word "lazy" could also have been used. Everything else about your outfit says you stood in front of the mirror carefully putting it on, making sure the ribbons are tied, the bonnet is properly placed, the socks aren't skewed, etc etc. And then a blouse that says you just wanna be lazy today, that's why it looks jarring.

The peter pan collar actually adds to this effect, a real lolita blouse with peter pan collar would have a much smaller and higher neckline, as you said, it’d be fussy, maybe even hot and uncomfortable, sort of like how you need to have your hair a particular way in order to wear a bonnet, that’s also a fussy detail. Wide necklines can work with lolita, but wide peter pan collars just have a very lazy vibe that just doesn’t work across all lolita outfits.

You don’t have to stick to high necks, wide necks with frills instead of a Peter Pan collar will generally work better. Wide neck Peter Pan blouses will work in casual coords instead of fussy coords like this one. Pair it with a half-shirred poofy skirt or throw a salopette on over it. Or, if you like jsks, throw something like AP's casual summer jsks over it, put your hair up in a no-fuss ponytail with a scrunchy, and it'll work. Just not in this coord with everything else being so fussy-looking.

If the weather is hot, I'd suggest a lace blouse as another alternative. Lots of airy ventilation while giving you that prim and proper high collar.

You don’t have to change the ribbon on the dress, in fact I didn’t say you should. I just mention it because even if it’s attached to your dress and not your fault that it’s pink, it’s still something that helped swing the balance towards pink rather than red.

This looks pretty cute and cohesive, including the beret.

The only thing I’d worry about is how the socks look, on some people’s legs the stripes warp and look funny. Maybe consider some backup socks if you haven’t tried them before and are unsure if they’ll look funny on your legs.

The other consideration is that most of the tea-time hints except the bag will be lost in photos. The black spoon and fork already blends into the dress. The necklace and ring are pretty small, plus the neckline has a lot going on so it’s likely they’ll end up looking like little gold specks. There’s not really a way to make it more visible unless you change the dress to white colourway (not sure if you’d need to also change the blouse and beret to match in that case).

Honestly I think it still looks cute, but if it bothers you that someone might see it on CoF and complain about your apparently random teacup bag, just make a point of collaging closeups of your jewellery together with your outfit photo.

I think a pearl bracelet would go nicely to match the necklace, but if you don’t really want to wear anything on your wrists, doing a manicure with black, white and/or gold nail polish would also look good.

Well, first things first, the frill on the blouse will fall right over the chest bow, so you'll probably have to wear it without the bow there. Maybe move it to your waist if you really like it.

If you feel like your chest looks a bit empty after removing the bow, I suggest a long necklace that hangs down onto it. The neckline of the blouse suggests that you'll need a choker or a short necklace as well, so layer a few pieces together for an interesting focal point. Alternatively, one of those double bow brooches joined by a string of pearls/a chain also works.

Red and gold are both very eye-catching, bright colours, so it's hard to recommend something that doesn't make it look more gaudy. Don't go overboard on adding too much gold to the outfit.

Option one is to stick to the red-gold-white colour scheme. Get a bag in red, and stick to pearl and/or crystal accessories. For extra attention to detail, stick to gold metal on both the bag and jewellery. You do need to make sure the bag doesn't clash with the dress, but it doesn't need to be a 100% pantone match, just make sure they look like they kind of belong together when you put them side-by-side.

Option 2 is to ground the outfit a little by adding some brown, you can use bronze jewellery instead of gold to help tie it in, and if you can find a bronze brooch that would also help tie a brown bag in. This option is pretty good, there's a lot of cute fairytale jewellery in bronze so you can choose your favorite love story to add to the outfit. (Don't wear three long necklaces at a time though, that's just a shop image for long necklace).

It's honestly a really versatile dress, could go a lot of different ways. For colours, you can do warm reddish tones like plum, wine, brown. Or if you like cooler tones, echoing the different greens in the print and then using brown as an anchor is also doable.

Likewise with style, if you just want to do simple lolita with it, you can easily wear it with berets, headbands, ribbon combs, etc. Or if you want to go max wa on it then you can look for a kanzashi and some boots to wear with it.

For kanzashi, you can find used ones on yja. Using the words かんざし 成人式, they're generally bigger as they're for formal use.

The only thing I'd advise is don't do traditional footwear with it. The tops of tabi socks generally aren't meant to be seen, it almost always looks weird. Even crew socks with cutesy sandals are a step above using actual tabi and zori.

Definitely a couple of misses.

First, the blouse was made to go specifically with another Sweet Dreamer jsk that had earthy tones with white pearls on it, that's why it has stark white bows on a cream beige blouse. On your ivory skirt those white bows are going to look like a mistake, plus I'm not really sure ivory even goes with the cream beige colour Sweet Dreamer used for the blouse.

Second, you can't just tie a ribbon on a fully shirred skirt and expect it to stay put. If you're not taking apart the skirt and stitching a fixed waistband to it, the ribbon will be anywhere except directly over the shirring where you intend it to be.

Third, the crown has been bashed many times in the taobao thread. It's apparently a cheap plastic air freshener that the shop repurposed and apparently looks like cheap plastic irl.

If you have your heart set on hime with hime sleeves, what I'd suggest is a bustier like this one. The bottom will cover the shirred waistband nicely. Then you can go nuts with all the chiffon or lace hime-sleeve blouses instead of being stuck searching for something opaque.

For crowns, if you don't want burando, I'd try the bridal shops. There's a lot of cheap junk mixed in, but some shops also carry a lot of pretty metal crowns that would look better than a plastic air freshener.

The blouse in this one seems a bit awkward imo, I think one with more detailed+ longer sleeves in a lighter color may work. If it can work with the longer pendant, a choker could die in the gold/ivory from the skirt and accessories while matching the theme. Otherwise a high neck blouse with a brooch/jabot/necktie etc could accomplish this.

On most EE pieces the ribbon isn't actually sewn down. It's usually two thread belt loops on either side to hold the ribbon in place. So you can slip the ribbon directly out of the belt loops and wear it without.

Then you can wear blouses with a nice ruffle bottom directly over the skirt without worrying whether the shirring looks bad, the ribbon has shifted, or if the skirt is giving you a muffin top.

If you normally do a less OTT classic, I'd suggest sticking to your usual style instead of heading in a different direction. Maybe a simple classic blouse and lace tights would work better, the pink here looks kind of shoe horned imo.

This one is actually on the right track, it's a lot more coherent than the other efforts. The last finicky bit is to make sure the blouse is the right length -- it looks hip-length at the moment, but I assume it'll look right once it's on a person and not a tiny-sized mannequin. You want it to hit just right at the waist so it covers the top of the skirt but not too long that it has trouble sitting over a poofy skirt.

I'd also suggest adding an antique gold necklace to tie in the gold colour as well.

I have seen people shoehorning red a lot into chocolate coords but desu it doesn't really work unless the print already has some red in it. This is a very detailed print and shoehorning a new color might look odd. I found a cute example of cream and brown with added pink accents though.

I think gold is also your best friend.

I get why you want to coord this in a new and different way. So many chocolate coords are so played out and look samey. As a fellow chocolate dress enthusiast I think the best coords are when pieces from different chocolate series are mixed together, and when a headdress or an accessory is very unique, not a standard bow or bonnet.

I guess I don't really get why you got the brown colourway if you disliked it all that much, the dress comes in pink and mint as well, which sounds more up your alley.

Anyway, if you really want to force another colour onto it, your best bet is to take off both bows and the gold chain. Throw on a cardigan or bolero in a different colour, then add the bows and chain to the cardigan/bolero, maybe add some extra chocolate brooch as well. The layering of brown-another colour-brown will help the additional colour looks like it belong. Good colours to add are dusty pink and dusty mint (same shade as the other two colourways of Musee, if it works with the print it should work with your brown). Peach should also work, mustard yellow (if your skintone can pull it off), and darker, dustier colours like khaki should also work as well. Keep in mind that you still have to balance the colours with your socks, shoes, bag and headwear, so try not to go nuts with some weird-colour bolero that you can’t find matching shoes and hairbows for.

The dress itself is fairly versatile anyway. You can wear it simply with a plain lolita blouse and do simple sweet, or you can throw on your most hime-est of princess sleeve blouses, a tiara, a scepter and do OTT sweet chocolate princess. Or take off the two bows, gold chain and wait ties, add an otome-style cardigan and low-poof petti, and do a kind of almost-casual look. If you’re willing to go into quirky otome bright colours territory you could probably even do a red turtleneck underneath and coord it with darker brown.

>> No.9918861

>>9918849

It's a salopette, anon. Its cut defines what it can be. Plus it's a cutesy print on cotton fabric, which always takes it down towards casual rather than dressed up anyhow.

If you really want to force it, you could probably put a corset, waist cincher over it to tighten down the silhoutte. Then a hime-sleeved blouse and a bustier, or if you happen to have the right decorative corset that works, layer the corset on top of a blouse, on top of the salopette. Now the skirt being too short, use a sax blue underskirt over it, then add a sheer overskirt (because an underskirt alone will make it look like you're wearing two skirts, which you are, so to make it look less like homeless bag lady and more intentional, you need to break up the line between the two, hence you're using a matching blue underskirt and then an overskirt to blur the white lace seperating the two skirts). Then after that you're just left with finding matching everything else (shoes, socks, bags, hair pieces, jewellery, etc).

It's so much trouble though, and you need to take care that the corset /waist cincher is a short one that squishes the top of the salopette (where it's too loose) but not the skirt itself. You might as well use another dress rather than this one, or if you're stuck with this one, alter it into a skirt and wear it as you like.

White goes with a lot of colours, if you want something harmonious then all of the pastels and dusty, light colours are good for it. You basically have your pick of colours, as long as your skintone can pull it off and you can find enough matching things to make a coord. Keep things simple, start with a two-colour coord with gold jewellery, then when you feel more adventurous you can do like a floral headdress and add more colours to your outfit.

I have SDC in white, so I kind of feel the pain. For some reason every coord I make ends up looking like like sweet angelic puffball.

I have no idea what to do for tights/OTKs for this dress. This is pretty much what I had in mind for it but I can’t find any tights that’ll go with it. I know that an indie brand has mushroom tights but no one else is selling tights like those or those exact ones. Any help would be much appriciated, as well as any other suggestions for what I can do to improve this coord. Thank you all in advance!!

There's a few mushroom tights on etsy, and Lily of the Valley has done one, she might still have a pair available.

If all those options fall through, I'd suggest white lace tights as a last resort backup. Looks a bit plain but you usually can't go wrong with it.

I legit thought you meant “try hard” as in “trying hard to parody ita coord”. The wig is even the stereotypical wig all itas seem to aim for with their first coord, either spot-on for an ita-on-purpose coord or you need to slap yourself if you were serious with it.

Anyway, I gave it a shot improving the coord, but to be honest with you, this dress isn’t the best of Bodyline, and that’s not because it’s Bodyline. The trim makes the bodice look tubeish, and the chiffon actually seems to be a different mint than the print itself. If you aren’t completely stuck with it I’d suggest at least picking the sax blue colourway or another print.

Other than the wig, the rest of the coord itself doesn’t seem too horrible. I’d suggest getting backup socks because tights sometimes go sheer when worn, so the whites will no longer match. The print being already very busy, I’d suggest something with smaller berries anyway.

Additionally, for a coord involving mint (never really a standard colourway) and mostly taobao/offbrand, you’re also going to have to keep an eye on the colours. They don’t need to perfectly match each other, but you definitely want to look like you’re mostly wearing only red, pink and mint, and not like 50 shades of close-enough.jpg.

If you want to look a little bit less like it’s your first coord, I’d suggest going with a pink chiffon blouse, coloured blouses and chiffon are both more up-to-date than a basic white blouse. The basic white blouse is safer, though, less of a headache with making sure your pinks match, and easier to match with future jsks.

You can pretty much stop looking. This particular pink skews slightly peach or salmon, very few lolita brands use it, and even when they do it’s inevitably some other shade of peach. And trying to do a pastel pink x peach pink coord when the skirt’s pink is obviously a different undertone than every other pink in the coord is going to make the skirt stick out like a sore thumb as the one thing that doesn’t match.

Ironically enough, normie brands use this kind of pink far more often, so if you stubbornly want to find matching things, your best bet is to actually head down your local department store with the skirt in hand, you run a fairly good chance of finding something that matches. If you get just a matching headbow and matching shoes, you can probably add an ivory lolita blouse, some accessories and still end up with a fairly lolita-ish coord.

As an alternative, I’d advise that you chose another colour to focus on — wine, red or brown are good colours to focus on. Sprinkle in some ivory or white, throw in some themed brooches and hairpins, and it’s a decent colour scheme. Just watch out for the colours — brown is probably fine with some slight mismatch, but if you’re doing red x ivory with the skirt, try to make sure all the items are red and not wine (and vice versa) — wine usually has a colder purple undertone that clashes with red.

For the blouse, if you want breathable for summer, I’d suggest cutsews instead. If you’re doing casual lolita, a camisole + bolero combination also works (just make sure you use a suitably girly, frilly camisole together with a lolita bolero), although this might be slightly too casual depending on what your meetup is (it’s usually fine for a picnic, but a bit too toned down for a sit-down tea service). If the bottom of the cutsew doesn’t have a nice frill though, you can add a wide belt or waist cincher so that the shirred waistband is not visible.

A white petticoat works fine. If you're going to build a wardrobe, white generally works under even black so it's a good idea to get a white petticoat as a beginner.

I threw something extremely basic together. While the colors may not look like they match at first, I find that IRL they have a tendency to match better. I couldn't find a necklace without a black ribbon but you could replace it with a grey or cream ribbon for the necklace. Because it's summer where I am I'm all about playing with ideas that don't necessarily stuff a blouse down, and VM in their stock photos agrees with me. Having a structured bolero with an open front is probably the best as it adds some structure with puff sleeves without taking away from the nice detailing in the front. I chose hotter ivory donna heels because they're my favorite, but any ivory/cream heels should be ok.

Standard basic bitch coord would work for this. White legwear. Match your shoes to your bag. Then headwear matched to your bag or your dress (if you don't have the matching headwear).

Good colours for the bag/shoes/headwear would be pink, sax blue. Brown could maybe work out but I'm not sure. You could also do white.

That neckline is calling for a necklace. Other than that, try to stay away from anything too glitzy, as the dress itself is fairly muted and washed out.

Lining is on the inside, anon, you won't see it when worn. You mean the chiffon flocked parts are navy I take it?

Anyway, obvious answers are white, navy and sax. Good accent colours would be navy and gold, keep any black to a minimum.

As for types of blouses, I'd say a high-collar blouse, maybe with a jabot or a pussy bow, looks better and doesn't clash with the jsk's "collar"-like design.

Or if you're really at a loss with coording the bodice you can do what the San Fran boutique did and completely obscure it with a cardigan and tippet/fake collar.

First things first. If the weather is hot, I’d generally recommend keeping things toned down and casual, this usually results in fewer layers so it’s easier not to overheat in the weather. Short sleeves and comfy cutsews would be the way to go if you overheat easily. There’s quite a few cutsews that have fairly detailed/fancy bib/collars and short sleeves that would work for the salopette. Navy and white are good colours to go with for socks and blouses.

For keeping the red and gold theme, you can totally do matching wine red shoes and wine red bag with gold accents on them. However, you do need to keep an eye that the reds don’t clash, and don’t let it overrun the coord.

If you have trouble matching reds, do brown shoes and bag instead, then use red and gold as accents. Put a red and gold bag charm on your bag, pin a red and gold brooch on your cutsew, put a red and gold hair accessory in your hair.

The exact jsk that was posted appears to have ivory ruffles. I'd stay completely clear of mixing any taobao brands because of that. Taobao brands tend to use a much yellower, lemony "ivory", meanwhile Japanese brands tend to use different shades of beige for "ivory". You're very likely to get mismatched, clashing colours. It's one thing if your petticoat (which is not supposed to be seen anyway) doesn't quite match your frills, it's another thing when your blouse is obvious a completely different white than your skirt ruffles.

The blouse seems rather overly decorated for the jsk anyway, I'd chose something more classic and elegant than that to go match with VM.

Oh God, even when this came out everyone had trouble unseeing a toilet-dipped cardigan, it almost never pops up because people usually try hard not to actually buy it.

Anyway, your best bet is to try your hardest to emphasise the drip-melty aspect, forget about the chocolate aspect entirely. There's some AP series with melty collars -- melty color cutsew, melty sky/shooting star blouse, etc. You can pull the collars out so that they sit as one more layer on top of the cardigan.

Then this series is the sweet waffle series, which also helps emphasis the "strawberry icing melting" rather than "something pink dipped in something brown".

Top it off with other melting things -- Q-pot melty chocolate jewellery and some AP Melty chocolate/melty ribbon chocolate stuff, and you miiiggghhht be able to not look like you took a fall while you were in the loo.

good luck, anon.

I've really only found offbrand white to be white enough. Hermes and Burberry both made white leather bags at some point, you might be able to find them secondhand on yja or mbok or fril or mercari. Alternatively, maybe a trip to your local mall will turn up something white that doesn't clash too badly.

To keep it strictly lolita, instead of looking for a white bag, I'd suggest doing a navy blue bag instead. Much easier to find, navy is pretty standard undertone with most lolita brands and the dress actually has a couple of different blues anyhow, so you have better chances of getting something that doesn't clash. Angelic Pretty and AatP both put out a fair number of navy blue bags.

Its very color-blocky, which makes it look newbish. It's fine, but I would do a blouse over a cutsew since you're doing tights, or swap the tights for something less solid. Maybe sheer tights with a polka dot? right now everything feels very solid and heavy, if that makes sense, both in your fabrics and opacities.

Swap the hair bow. It's too shiny, the dress itself is matte cotton.

If you don't have the chance to try on the shoes I'd think about getting something a bit chunkier, flat shoes tend to make your feet look stumpy, even if they're ETC.

Personally I'd swap the bag as well, Mufish is known for replicating Grimoire tights, so it's not really a brandname I'd proudly wear wrapped around anything. The tights themselves are probably okay.

The outfit is fine, it's just a bit more toned down. Assuming you're going to a meetup that fits that then it should be okay. If the other girls are going to be more dressed up than you then you might look a bit plain in comparison, in which case I'd suggest you swap the cutsew out for a fancier blouse (nothing too big, just a short sleeved blouse with more lace and pintucks. You could probably get one from the current IW sale).

Accessories are a lot harder to work with. A lot of sweet brands do trump designs in pastel colours. There's a few things floating around that are gold, black and red though, if you can find them for sale. Alternatively, Atelier Pierrot has multiple indie brands that do interesting jewellery (Alice Garden, and Snob come to mind. I'd probably avoid some of the brands though, SystemID seems to look cheap in person) if you can't find stuff and need things in a hurry. You might also think about painting your nails, or using some nail stickers/foil on them as well.

Heres what I picked that makes for a good beginner outfit and some good base pieces for your future wardrobe.

My main question is why you went with a cutsew instead of a blouse? If it's due to hot weather, then you'll end up sweating heaps with the extra layer around your abdomen area.
A short sleeve bolero or black chiffon blouse might work better.

The trending thing at the moment are flowers in glass bottles (herbariums, ハーバリウム and then accessory アクセサリー will locate the jewellery). Most of them are filled with flowers, but they go well with the "colourful things in glass jars" theme. You can find the occassional ones that are filled with just random sparkly things as well. Minne and rakuten are good places to find the Japanese ones, but you can also look on etsy for resin bottle jewellery and see if there's anything that catches your fancy.

The only issue is that most of the necklaces are pretty small, they'll get lost in a lolita dress. Might be a good idea to try and see if anyone in the craft thread can help you out with a commission for a bigger piece for the necklace.

If you want to take the glass bottle theme a step further, you can also try the ita bag thread and look for a bag shape/colour that you like, and fill the "window" of the ita bag with fake candy, to reflect the theme of the dress.

.....Or, if you're just looking for suggestions for normal lolita handbag and shoes, then brown, dark green, black are all good colours to pair with the dress. Gold is a good accent colour if you can find decent things and use it sparingly

It’s really hard to tell you where to go next, since you’re the only person who knows what you want out of lolita and what you want in it. For eg, I’m looking at your list, and one long-sleeved blouse in three colours, doesn’t seem enough. Still, it seems to have worked well enough for you for three years so maybe you don’t need that many.

For other girls, most of them usually continue collecting pieces to make different coords. Usually the impetus comes from seeing a new design, or getting a new idea to try out, or even just dressing to a different theme. The constant churning of new ideas and different coords is what makes up most of the hobby. Even girls who brandwhore are really just looking to their brands for new ideas to dress up in. The aim of your wardrobe is simply to enable you to dress up as much as you like, while being small enough to fit into your closet. If you’re bored with your current looks, buy a new look to experiment with. If you’re running out of space, downsize.

For your wardrobe, I’d like to suggest the 3-coords exercise — make 3 distinctly different coords with each dress. Doing so might help you realise there’s some items you can add that will make more different coords. For eg, you might want to add a short-sleeved blouse or a lace blouse for summer, or a turtleneck or a cardigan for winter.

For bags and shoes, what matters is that they suit your aesthetic, and you aren’t using this as an excuse to wear the cheapest junk. I’m somewhat surprised you don’t have a brown set bag and shoes, since half the dresses would go well with brown.

If you’re well beyond the point where you’re simply looking for things to complete your coords, think about adding meaningful things, for eg a Milk heart-shaped bag because it’s iconic, or VW rhs because she was influential in early days of lolita. Just make sure you can still make good-looking coords when you add these things.

I know. I mentioned herbarium stuff is trending because it means you can find it far more easily than you can find "fake candy in bottles" jewellery. And a lot of them pretty must just look like colourful things in bottles rather than recognizeably not-candy-like.

As for a bolero, theoretically if you can find one where the bolero sleeve shape is pretty close to the dress sleeve shape then it could work, however it's kind of tricky to look at photos and try to guess whether they really match up or not.

If you can't find anything to match I'd generally suggest matching everything else around it, in this case black lace tights -- not the cheap floral ones, there's a lot of variety. If you can find something with vertical patterns that would tie in nicely with the print's vertical pattern.

Then the shoes can either be glitter black shoes, or black shoes with some silver detail so that they don't fully blend into the tights. Headwear can be black feathers with silver accents.

The more you put in the more like a clusterfuck this looks - you literally appear to have grabbed all the options off google image search for something approximating what you might want to wear? It's hard to tell if you want to be sweet, classic, country or something that tries to be everything and fails at all of the above. That being said, the hats with red and blue ribbons are probably not the ones you want to be wearing given the overwhelming lack of red and/or blue in everything else you've chosen.

>> No.9951835

>>9951804

Looks like white, grey, sax blue would be good colours to start with. Then depending on the colour your start with you can add another colour.

For eg -- white blouse, white legwear (you can use basic white lace tights with some texture on them rather than worry about printed legwear) -- you can add shoes, bag and accessories in navy, grey, possibly black (black might look a bit too heavy).

Or go a different route -- sax blue blouse and ivory or white legwear, then brown shoes and brown bag, or navy shoes and bag.

Or do a grey blouse with white or ivory legwear, and do navy shoes and bag, or black shoes and bag, or lavender shoes and bag (it doesn't matter if the lavender doesn't 100% match the dress, in fact it's better if the lavender looks more like an accent lavender and doesn't blend into the dress.)

If you don't have the matching hairclip, a few flower hairclips matching the colours you've chosen should work pretty well. They don't need to match the lavender perfectly, but they should match at least some of the general colours you're coording with.

On the interesting side of things, the belt seems removable, so if you're reallyhaving issues with headwear, you can buy 2.5 metres of a ribbon, use 0.5 m to make a headbow/bow clip out of it, and the other 2m to replace the belt with.

I never wear sweet, only classic and gothic, but for some inexplicable reason I still find myself drawn to sugary carnival - especially in black. I've been considering getting the skirt but I'd rather not have to get a whole new wardrobe just to coord it, and I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable in the type of super sweet cords people usually do with it anyways. I've seen some not-so-sweet SC coords, but never with the black skirt specifically. I'd like to use relatively simple black shoes (round toed with straps around the ankle, slight heel) and white or lavender tights. I do actually have one black AP blouse that I could use, but would it be too top heavy with an all black top? Is this even doable in a decent way or should I just give up and get a sugary carnival phone background or something instead?

Hard to tell without pictures if your coord would work, I'm somehow picturing a very sweet coord, especially with those round toed shoes with ankle straps.

Sugary Carnival skirt isn't difficult to coord anyway, the waist ties and bow are removable, you can easily toss a simple black blouse or baby tee on top of it for a really casual, simple coord. I'd suggest going with black tights rather than white or lavender, though -- too high contrast in either of those colours.

There's no getting around that it's a fluffy skirt printed with marshmallows and dreaming dancing ponies though, you'll never be able to force it into looking like a Victorian Maiden coord. Personally I'd say if you like it then just get it, some variety in your closet is good for you anyway, and you can sell it if you find it doesn't work out as well as you thought.

I’m struggling to find a blouse that works well with this halter neck, especially because I worry standing collar/high neck makes my neck look weirdly short. But looking through peter pan collars, I feel like the style clashes. Am I just over thinking this??

Also worried about matching the off white of the dress background. It’s slightly more beige in person than I expected from photos. How far off is too far off to coord with true white? It’s still closer to that than my cream or ivory...

>> No.9952331

I think most kinds of collars except high collars clash with it, to be honest -- the neck tie would sit right under most fold-down collars and then you get a funny-looking bump on the back followed by ribbons coming from under the collar.

I also think that's why this neckline design is kinda rare, it's probably awkward and looks odd on most blouses.

I'd suggest trying a bolero with it instead, and coord it for a summery garden party look, that would solve all the issues with the necktie and cover your shoulders.

Don't worry about perfectly matching the background on the dress, you're not supposed to. Match the other things to each other instead, for eg match your shoes to your handbag. Match your bolero to your legwear and your gloves or hat (if you're using. Match any flower hairclips/bag charm to the red flowers in the dress print. Keep an eye on all the undertones, not the colours, so that they don't clash and it should be fine.

It looks okay, but I am wondering a little about the scale of things. For example, the necklace might get lost amongst all the pattern on the front of the JSK if it is quite small, and the bow brooch seems unnecessary and almost out of place since your cardigan has a bow on it already....
I'm not 100% sold on the wrist cuffs as that brown lace looks cheap and shitty; looking at some of the other previous sales I don't think that seller has a great idea of what good and bad lace are in the context of lolita fashion.
Also, your browns are not going to match at all - I'm guessing you haven't bought any of this stuff and I suspect it is all very different shades IRL, they don't even look the same undertone on the monitor.
I like the idea of this overall, but I think you're gonna be dissatisfied with how you look if you wear all these items together.

I think if you match the bag, shoes and ribbon on the blouse it's a cute casual coord. If you wanted to go more country with it you could easily trade out for a straw hat and bag with the same brown accent - often it's easier to start with shoes and then match from there.

If you want to keep the "candy" theme a little more that biscuit bag is cute but you'd probably want tan shoes - in that instance I'd think about using the bows from the dress as hair accessories if they are detachable, and/or some of the cute biscuit hairclips that you can find. Rather than wrist cuffs you could also go for a charm bracelet with either that "filled glass bottle" thing or biscuits again, and also a ring or two

>> No.9953913

I think ivory would be okay, but in my opinion underskirts with sweet-style items are best paired with quite ruffly blouses so it looks more intentional to have the layers of ruffles (as most of the time if you're needing an underskirt that badly, it's usually 2 layers of ruffles showing).
If you look at the JSK, it has a single ruffle on the bottom which may help you picture what it looks like more easily.
There are so many motifs on this print that I would look for gold-toned jewellery and just choose a few - there's crowns, swans, bows, keys, feathers, fleur de lys....so something like a charm bracelet (traditional style, not the european/pandora one) that has a few of those motifs would be perfect, and also golden rings with the same motifs. Hair accessory wise, a plain headbow would be fine and if you wanted to make it fancier consider small clips with similar motifs.

If you already have the dress in hand, maybe you can take it down to the shopping mall and try to find solid tights in lavender that match it.

Okay, posted this in the wrong thread a minute ago.

Do any gulls have this dress in the pink or blue colorways? I'm trying to do a sort of soft, 'sweet' night sky/starry look or like a bedtime thing with it, but I'm worried about how the colors look IRL. Any other advice is helpful! If this coord flops I'm settling for a reserved librarian theme, lol.

>> No.9961686

>>9961492
Are you buying the pink? It looks like a really dusty pink that can be hard to match, so I'd probably coord it with non-pink colours e.g. beige, chocolate brown.

>>9961020
Plain how? That lends itself to old school perfectly - frumpy white blouse, lace topped OTKs, rectangle or circle headdress or even wired head eating bow; chunky platform mary janes, etc. If you want to go more OTT, a bonnet is an instant way to move in that direction.

>>9960573
I like this! Not 100% sold on the socks since the polka dots look puke green on my monitor rather than leaning-towards-blue-green like the dress, but otherwise it's very cute.

That's exactly what I'm worried about with the pink! I don't want to buy a difficult dress and bite off more than I can chew but it looks so pretty. This is the only picture of the pink worn that I can find and it's on the listing page so accuracy is iffy.

I think it's probably safe coordinated with neutrals-you could probably get away with not at all matching the colour at all, e.g. wearing it with off white/ivory/beige (choose one, not all of the above) and gold accessories. I feel like if you wanted to introduce a more contrasting colour, like wine, you might need more of the same pink in the outfit depending on the way you're styling it.

What about textured black tights with a black motif that matches the print, e.g. coffins, crosses, stars...? Or black x gold tights? The purple looks a bitch of a shade to match IRL but might be close to the lavender shade Welovecolors does (Welovecolors lilac is a pretty close match to Princess Cat, so I think too light for that) if you wanted to layer under lace tights

If you have a sailor collar blouse or sailor hat, it would definitely make the nautical theme more obvious.
Otherwise berets are always good and you could add a naval style pin to it, you can find them for sale online and such.

Otherwise for a pirate look I would suggest a tricorn hat of some sort (either diy/mod your own or buy a premade one), boots, and an appropriate top layer like a coat, cape, vest, or bustier. Could get away with an eyepatch too.

>>9968738
I think the lace gloves and swiss dot blouse would be a bit odd together. You can definitely find some swiss dot gloves that would match or otherwise make one of the items solid instead.

Satchel would be acceptable especially if it has buckles and straps that are similar to the boots

Yes and push it to the normie side. What about tiny cutlasses?

Y tho

Updo for hair, then you can balance the tricorn on it. Nails - I'd go plain black personally.

Neutrals and metallics is how everyone seems to wear it - so white/off white or ivory blouse and tights, and metallic shoes + accessories.

>>9980518
There is nothing particularly OTT about this skirt...metallics and themed trim is pretty common in lolita. Blouse will always be a personal choice but I think the hemline of that will sit over the waist of the skirt and make the waist less defined. A closer-fitting cutsew might actually be better.

Those metallic star clips that everyone has would be okay as a hair accessory if you're struggling to find a headbow. The tights are a weird pattern from what I can see - did you just choose them for the colour? All the details seem to be above the knee/on the thigh so you'd lose that with the skirt on anyway. Yidhra at one point had some constellation tights which seem like they'd be more fitting for this.

I'd go with gold tones in the jewellery and looking for motifs that pick up on the dress themes e.g. flowers, fairies. If you want jewellery that may match a few other items look for more generic designs e.g. a choker with blue gems and a drop pendant rather than gold miniature fairies in a glass jar.

So...brown/bronze/beige? Cable knit tights with boots are acceptable in a casual outfit. The blouse is reading as a beige on my screen, so beige tights and brown/beige outerwear; if you don't mind squishing your sleeves a bit, a simple cardigan should be okay but if your wardrobe would work with it, maybe even a cape.
