>> No.9917310

About 2 months ago I started making and doing a yogurt and oatmeal mask every morning, and my skin has never felt better! My biggest issues are blackheads (oily t zone), dry/flaky and excess dead skin (cheeks), the occasional whitehead, and redness. My skin felt brighter, lighter, softer, and more even after doing it once. After two weeks, almost all of my acne was gone. My makeup applies much more easily and doesn't seem to settle into lines as much either.
I have sensitive skin and this has been a godsend to me, but obviously beware if you have milk allergies or anything.
Mix two big spoonfuls of plain, full fat yogurt with a Tbsp. or so of finely ground oatmeal, and then let it sit for 10 minutes. Apply thickly and wait for 15-20 minutes before wiping off the excess. Then wash your face with warm water and a sponge/cloth, gently exfoliating as you go.
You can also add other things to it, like honey or turmeric.

Ok so I'm getting sick of acne breakouts and seemingly never ending blackheads (especially on forehead and nose). I would really just love clear skin all the time because my foundation looks like crap with all the acne bumps on my forehead. Any advice on where to start for a skincare regimen is greatly appreciated! I have never had an actual skincare routine before, only washing my face with whatever face wash my mom stocked in the bathroom, so this is all kind of new to me. I don't have a budget and don't mind buying high end stuff if it'll work (I need more Sephora points anyway).

I have mostly dry skin, but I think my T zone is oily because it certainly feels so, and my forehead and nose are where my blackheads and acne are. (I get NO acne anywhere else, maybe my hairline sometimes but that's about it.) I know this is a lot to ask for for product recommendations but I trust gulls over a million Google articles pointing me in different directions and I would greatly appreciate it!

So with skincare, start with gentle cleanser and moisturizer even for the oily bits and add in spot treatment as you go. Most cleanser that says it will help acne is a meme, usually it's the stuff that is staying on your skin afterwards that helps. Skincare is YMMV which is why it's important to start with just a couple things and add in slowly so you know what stuff your skin reacts to and what helps it. Some people just need to clean, moisturize and spot treat and others need a multi step complex regime.

Start might be:
Cetaphil gentle cleanser (not the oily skin one)
Pure aloe vera gel to moisturize the oily bits, cetaphil or cerave to moisturize dry bits
Benzac or crystaderm to spot treat

Then after two weeks you could add in a BHA (salicylic acid) liquid or gel such as cosrx or Paula's choice to the oily bits if you were seeing no change, as this is often helpful for blackheads.
Also look up sebaceous filaments just in case that is what some of your "blackheads" are

>> No.9918891

>>9918871
Start with a gentle cleanser, toner, and a moisturizer for daily use. A clay mask, a hydrating mask, and an exfoliator for weekly use. I use The Body Shop's tea tree series for all but moisturizer and hydrating mask which I just get nice non comedogenic ones + sheet masks from my drugstore since I run out of these fast. Moisturizing is extremely important, please don't skip it because I've seen a lot of people do since their skin is already oily. If you moisturize well it will stop getting oily and hence it won't break out.
If you're not on birth control, consider going on birth control aswell because it ended all my cystic adult acne though it takes time to work (2 and a half months for me). I used to break out on my nose, cheeks and back and I pretty much get nothing now since I started save for a few zits near my period.

>> No.9918897

>>9918871
Also forgot to add, don't overdo with spot treating + clay masks and if anything gives you a burning sensation on you skin it's a no no, this was a mistake I used to do a lot because I thought burning means it's working. It doesn't.

Also get rid of any magnifying mirrors you have. It's a good step in fussing over your skin and stopping picking and popping if you do it since a lot of things that show in them are practically invisible to the regular sight and popping really does aggravate acne a lot.

How do you gulls pick haircuts? My hair grew out of a pixie cut and is shoulder length now, but I really want to get it cut into an actual style. Without knowing which ones your buying Helping is a bit difficult. Typically I use something like these and trimming to fit the eyeshape your going for is necessary. You could also try picking up lash tweezers to help you get as close as possible to your lash line natural or created. If getting them to stay in place as a whole band is hard try cutting them into sections.

>> No.9919074

>>9919034
That happened to me years ago too, I think it’s normal. What I do is put less powder than they say (I actually just mix the amount by eye now) and wait a little longer, and reapply what’s when it falls off. but the reason why it stings is there is a little too much powder in the ratio. Also after I wait, I rinse it off with cold water and mild soap for 15-20 seconds and pat dry.

>> No.9921088

>>9919034
Yes, the skin there is more sensitive. If your bleaching cream isn't intended for facial use the mixture might be too strong

>>9919021
A little bit of lip fuzz is actually normal for women even with normal hormones etc. Genetics determines the shade of your hair and skin so women with dark hair/light skin get more noticeable shadow due to the contrast, or women with thicker hair. Everyone has facial fuzz. If you have an actual mo' though - that could be a sign of fucked up hormones like PCOS, so you might want to try on either BC or spiro.

I like doing what >>9919074 says but don't reapply again right after, it may not sting the first time but it can a bit the second time because the skin is more sensitive. I'd wait a day to reapply again, then you should be good to go.

Depending on your eye shape, you might have to pre-curl the lash band a bit so they fit your eyes better. Also start with something more subtle and fairly short, maybe even just the outer half. It's really easy to mess up the balance with lower lashes.

If you used permanent/demi dye/gloss, use Color oops to get it out (I had green hair from a bad dye job, this took me back to a very yellow untoned blonde)

If it’s manic panic or a direct dye like it use suave clarifying shampoo. Lather up throw a shower cap on and chill for an hour. Heating helps. Repeat as necessary. I’ve done this plenty of times and it will get you back to your starter blonde. Will dry you out obv cus it’s clarifying so condition accordingly.

do you put on concealer like left or right in pic related? i used to always shove concealer kinda all over my undereye area in the hopes of brightening it (like on the left), since i also have very hollow eyes. then i started putting it ONLY in the hollow (on right) and blending it carefully so none goes below that hollow line, it sort of tricks the eye. I find that if I go over the line I instantly look more tired and the hollows look worse. I also always take a highlighter and highlight the inner corners of my eyes liberally, putting blush on the high parts of your cheek will help also. it's all about pulling forward sunken areas and pushing back the cheeks.

colour correcting might also help, like if you have purple bags then use a more yellowish concealer.

Anon, this might sound stupid but it might even help you develop a feel for how styling hair works.
Get a fake styling head like student hairdressers use or A wig block and a cheap wig.
It’s hard to learn how to do stuff on yourself but by doing it on someone else or on something like that you’ll at least be able to take some trial and error and get a feel for what “feels” right when you’re doing it on your own head.
For complex styles and doing it on your own self if you’re still not sure get 2 mirrors put one in front of you and one behind you and then you can at least see what’s going on back there.
I feel you though I’ve never been good at doing my own hair but by practicing on wigs and then also using the mirrors trick I’ve been able to get a little further on my own.

Also for your second reccomendation, I liked Dolly Winks brown mascara but not sure if they even make it anymore? I haven’t used it in a long time.

How does one fix uneven skin?

I have it, in terms of both the texture and color of my skin. I have patchy redness in my skin (had it most of my life) and it makes shade matching foundations really tricky.

Then use the skin tone concealer one shade lighter than your skin on top ,after you blended in the first one ofc, set it with a powder for it to last. Good ingredients you want for anti wrinkle type skincare is collagen, alpha hydroxy acids, glycolic acid, retinol, peptides and snail slime. If it has any or a combo of these in a high enough amount it’s more likely to be good than just whatever is labeled as “anti-wrinkle”.

If your a newbie look up some videos first (ones where they actually zoom in on the eye to show you close up) and practice a lot with a crappy pair before you do the ones you actually want to wear. If you can’t get them to stick down cut the band in half or into 3 and apply in 2 or 3 parts. that reduces the risk of having one side pop up off your eye. this helped me a lot when I was new to lashes. Good lashes will have a flexible band that’s not stiff or thick, so that’s something to watch for when buying.
Blend them in with your natural lashes by curling them with a curler together and then applying mascara through both.
You can also reuse lashes once your done take them off and soak them in a glass of warm water with some soap in it. I went through lashes so quickly when I started because I wasn’t aware you could even do that it just didn’t even come across my head.
Also bend the lashes into a circular shape to match your eye curve when you first take it out of the package and when putting on glue let the glue get tacky before putting it on your eye, so apply glue and let it sit there for about 30 seconds before putting it on the eye.

Bring some styles you like to your hairdresser and tell them you want to make your face shape more heart shaped looking and ask which of these would be best for that. They’re supposed to know about face shapes and how to correct them into an oval but I assume that should also tell them enough about how to amp up a heart shape as well if they’re a good stylist.
I think things with bangs and layers framing around your chin inward will be best to get a heart shape look but that’s assuming you have an oval shape face. You might have to contour your chin if you want to completely change you face shape as hair alone might not do it if you have a shape like a square or something.

I've had blue and green hair for ages, it always faded to this ugly ass light grey-green shade until I recently dyed it with Directions' Plum. It stayed a vibrant purple for a while till it started fading.. To a vibrant blue. Friends keep asking if im just refreshing the blue on the regular but nope, its been vibrant blue for a couple months now after all the purple washed off. I haven't tried to strip it off yet but yeah, if you are looking into keeping blue tones, go for a blue-based shade of purple.

Has anyone had experience with perioral dermatitis? The area around my lips has been red and itchy and dry for over a month now. Initially I thought it was just a passing thing and it'd go away naturally, but now I'm seriously at a loss. I haven't had any big lifestyle or diet changes that I can think of, and it's only around my lips so I don't want to think it's one of my skincare or makeup products, especially since I haven't put anything on my lips besides lip balm (and it soothes the itching so not sure if it's something in that either).

Should I see a dermatologist or allergist first? I've looked up local derm listings but they seem the buy-our-product types rather than legit doctors. I hope my insurance can cover it...

Anon with the terrible, never-healing acne(?) on her neck from the last thread here...

Neither tea tree oil nor a proper antifungal cream worked. The spots are still there, there's even one more now.
Something did come out of one of them the other day, so I slapped hydrocolloid patches on it and the others. Those also seemingly did nothing. The two that have broken open won't seem to heal.
My boyfriend thinks they're probably from chronic stress, but I've noticed swollen lymph nodes in my underarms when the spots are most swollen and tender. At this point I've pretty much resigned myself to hiding in my house until I die of a flesh eating bacteria.

Any idea how to hide these without irritating them more? I've tried to keep my hair up and away from the area and not wear anything like makeup or turtlenecks, but I also don't want to walk around looking like this.

Nooo! Do NOT keep shaving it! Shaving causes the hairs to grow back in at a different angle which will make it appear thicker in the long run. Wax it if it’s really bad, otherwise use bleach suitable for eyelashes/brows. Sally Hansen does one.

I've found that infrequent underarm shaving (I tend to wear long sleeved shirts a lot) and switching to natural deodorants has helped my pits lighten up. I have a few stupid questions, I apologize.
I've been plucking nose hairs lately because I hate looking upwards in the mirror and seeing a bunch of black hairs in my nostrils. Is this bad, does anyone else do it? It doesn't hurt but it makes me sneeze. It's quite satisfying.
I tried using corn starch as a dry shampoo. It left my hair looking dusty even though I'm blonde. Is it a bad idea to use it as a regular shampoo? Put it on, brush it in, then shower. Will it clog my shower or anything? I think it might be less damaging than shampoo is, and my hair gets greasy quickly, especially my bangs. I don't want to use shampoo every single day but walking around with greasy bangs makes me want to kms, and the dry shampoo I tried does nothing.
I am a christmas cake and am getting fine smile lines in the past year. Despite using all of the moisturizer 24/7, sun protection, healthy-ish diet, and even retinol serum. Is there anything that can stop/reverse this bullshit?

Please don't pluck your nose hairs, anon. It's a great way to get an infected hair follicle in your nose. Just buy some of those little cosmetic scissors (or a designated nose trimmer) and use those. Really no one is going to be looking up your nose besides you.
Cornstarch won't clog your drain, but I can't speak for how useful it is as a regular shampoo. Your hair will stop producing so much oil if you start shampooing less, but this takes time.
I personally like the Dove Refresh (unscented) and Not Your Mother's Dry Shampoo. Batiste is overpriced and not that good, Treseme works for absolute shit. I'm sure I've tried others too, but those are the ones I can remember.

Smile lines are pretty much inevitable if you're genetically predisposed to them and not an emotionless robot. It sounds like you're already doing what you can to prevent them. Using a brightening concealer in those areas can help mask the shadow they create, though. I personally like Benefit's.

I have the same problem when I shave and after a lot of trial and error this is what ended up helping me the most:

>shower in warm water using a soapy body sponge to exfoliate the area
>apply men's shaving cream
>instead of shaving in one long stroke, shave gently in multiple short strokes
>rinse the blade often and repeat

After I finish I rinse in cold water, pat dry, then splash aftershave over the area I shaved. I apply a thick lotion after the aftershave. Then I remember to apply lotion twice a day for a few days as it grows back out. I also always use the aftershave + thick lotion combo after showers those next few days after a shave. It's not perfect, but the razor burn and itching went from 100% nightmare to 10% kind of sucks.

It sounds like you have in-between hair which can actually be harder than "straight" or "wavy" because it has the oily/limp tendency of straight hair especially around the scalp, and also the dry/frizzy tendency of wavy hair towards the ends. I would try going right back to how you're washing it - if it's frizzing, are you using stuff that is stripping your hair of oils etc? Are you better to go for conditioner to lengths -> shampoo scalp -> rinse -> recondition?

Braid it after you shower, let it dry and see what the waves look like after that. Also curl gels can be really helpful, but you must "scrunch out the crunch" as they're drying and only use on your ends. If I want to do waves I tend to scrunch my hair with a towel until it's damp rather than soaking, gel the ends, french braid then let it dry. I also put my hair in a bun or braids overnight which gets it to have volume/curl.

If your hairstylist says it should be low maintenance follow her up on that - they may have techniques/products to suggest for you.

So this is really embarrassing but I haven't used makeup throughout my life because I've never felt like I've needed it and the few times I've let someone put stuff on my face I've suffered allergic reactions.

But I figure I should probably start taking care of my face a little better.

I've been using some Korean and Japanese products (snail bee serum, charcoal mask) but I don't know if I'm doing the stuff in the right order.

Googling it, I get different answers.
What is the correct order?

Cleanser -> toner/serums/thin solutions -> heavier creams/moisturisers/sleeping packs.
If you are using a mask, that usually goes straight after you clean so that the ingredients can work on your skin. Then you choose whether or not you want to layer your serums, etc after that.

But if that's not the case I'll for sure invest in some.

I looked up Paula's Choice but which one do I get? Or should I invest in the entire set? It looks like it has an entire routine in it

My face isn't super tan or anything it's just a few shades darker than the rest of me which I want to fix

It's to stop you tanning/block UV. WTF.

If you want to get the whole set go for it, but you could just choose one product from the line that meets your needs, just look at the descriptions.

It's because of where I live I suppose?
Most people around here tan and still use sunblock and they still are really tan so I guess I assumed that the block was to block the harmful UV rays and still tan the skin?
I dunno I've never gone out in the sun enough to think about it too hard.

I still look like a teenager despite being 25 so I don't think I've had too much sun damage thankfully and I'll make sure to always use sun block from now on!

Q: How do anons here feel about accutane aka isotretinoin?
If you took it, how did it help your acne?

This is the second time in my life where a dermatologist has pushed this on me after a short stint with antibiotics. The first time I lost insurance before I could start. I just don't feel like the potential benefit outweighs the risk?
Do derms get a kickback for upselling people on accutane? Because I really don't think that just because I've tried topicals and an antibiotic that I'm out of options?
My acne is oily/hormonal. I don't believe blasting my body with an expensive chemo drug for a few months will really do anything for me long term. My mom has adult acne/rosacea so I think I'm pretty much doomed to have shitskin for the rest of my life with intermittent bouts of relief via antibiotics or luck.

I've never been recommended retinoids. Anti-androgens. Even peels.
Should I just be more assertive? My derm made me take a pee test for accutane last visit since I already am on highly effective bc, but after reading the physical side effects it doesn't sound like something I want to do. Nor do I want to fuck with monthly bloodwork.

Is there something else I can bring up at my next appointment that worked out for anyone else?

Accutane 100% fixed half a dozen of my friends (only 2 had really bad acne tho) and it can still sort out hormonal acne, sounds like even though it's hormonal you're not better on whatever bc you're on and if you don't have PCOS then the anti androgens don't always help that much. Also if you have a history of persistent acne then maybe it is better to just try and blast it and have done.

Peels and acids are such a YMMV thing for acne that hardly any derms bother recommending them, since then people would just tell them it didn't work and cost money. I think trying topical retinoids e.g. Retin A and a routine with actives before you go for Accutane is fair enough. The thing is, if you are going to the derm they probably assume you want medical help with it and have tried the other stuff yourself.

>Do NOT keep shaving it! Shaving causes the hairs to grow back in at a different angle which will make it appear thicker in the long run.
That's....totally false and just an old wives tale. Shaving cuts off the naturally softer tapered end, meaning that as it's cut across the shaft it will have a thicker spikier feel to it until the hair sheds as part of its natural cycle. Shaving does not cause any change at the base or root of the follicle itself. It's the same as getting a haircut. You can possibly end up with ingrown hairs but that's a separate issue.

Studies show that shaving an area has ZERO effect on the hairs themselves.
Unlike...
>Wax it if it’s really bad
Waxing can actually cause issues. Some people are extremely sensitive to having hairs pulled from the root (plucking and waxing) and it can induce more hair growth. Certain areas more than others, eyebrows don't usually react the same as other parts of the face. The latter I would caution anyone, some people won't notice a difference but those who started off plucking one hair or waxing a feint amount of hair may end up realising there is more or darker growth months/years later.

If you want to get rid of the hair permanently, stop plucking and just trim them with some scissors until you find a certified electrologist. I recommend the type called flash thermolysis as it has minimal skin reaction (I've tried all 3 methods).
FDA still states electro as the only permanent method of hair removal. It will work for you, just make sure you don't feel any plucking.

I'm borrowing a photo from another thread as an example, but is it possible to do this kind of hairstyle solo? I also love okumura.yusuke's styling. All I have to work with is a bathroom mirror and standing mirror and I can't seem to lace my ribbons symmetrically.

That girl clearly did so yes, the basic way she did it is doable alone. Notice that hers isn’t symmetrical either. I would say that if you sections of braids are the same width wise and length it is easier to make it equal. Their insta has a lot of them just putting the ribbon through every loop, or every other but I don’t see any other particular technique. Big ribbon hides mistakes better, and the girl in your example used a far too thin ribbon.

AM routine so far is 1st cleanser, 2nd cleanser, hydrating toner, essence and no moisturizer at the moment since i feel like it makes the pilling worse. My skin type is normal.

i’ve tried waiting 30 mins to an hour and it still doesn’t help. I’ve tried rubbing it in and patting it in. Nothing. Should i try switching sunscreens or applying less moisturizing product beforehand? I’m using Etude House Mild Watery Light, before that my first sunscreen was Biore Watery Essence and i had the same problem but a bit less as this one.

So, I've decided I want to bleach my hair again. I've done it several times before, but I've only used like box bleach, and this time I want to get some better stuff. I've done a lot of research and I think I'm gonna go with Wella powder lightener and probably a developer by Wella too.

My current hair color is a medium brown, one of the middle ones in this picture (I'm too lazy to figure out which one exactly but they're all kinda similar), and I want to go light enough for the Wella t18 toner to work. My first question is, is it better to use a lighter developer (like 5-10) and bleach several times, or is it better to use a stronger one (20-30) and just bleach 2-3 times? (I don't think I'll get away with bleaching just once)
I feel like using a weaker developer and waiting a week between each bleach session might leave the hair in a better condition, but I'm not sure.

Second question, I'm probably gonna have it blonde for a while, but eventually I want to dye it pink or lilac or something pastel. If I have toned hair (with the t18 toner it should be very light), will it interfere with other colors I put in? Or do you actually need to have it toned in order to get those pastel colors?

If you're only a medium brown, then 40vol would be excessive unless your hair is extremely thick. I've bleached my hair at home for years and definitely suggest going for multiple sessions rather than one big session as it lets you correct for different processing times of each hair section. However the 2-3 times of 20-30vol would probably get the best result, 5-10vol is more for setting colour into hair than lightening it.

Secondly, toner helps you start with a more neutral base and will usually help you get your desired shade with pastel tones. As pastels are usually direct dyes they are coating the hairs' outer layers and not getting chemically set into the hair as dyes that need developer do (unless the hair is porous, in which case staining will occur).

No problem! hair usually becomes porous if you use a strong developer on it too many times, but it depends on how strong/thick your hair is. It's hard to avoid with bleaching other than just being gentle with your hair (giving it time to recover between sessions, some people suggest protein treatments, etc).

I live outside the US and personally have to get supplies from a local hair supply store that just assumes everyone ordering from them is a professional and doesn't bother to check for licenses. Local ebay equivalent also lets me buy from professional suppliers. Good luck with finding a solution where you live.

Lastly, it depends on the toner as some do require developers which are peroxide, but at low concentrations (5 or 10 vol). Others might be more like leave in treatments or used at the shampooing stage. Just check the specific instructions of whichever one you're using. You can use the same developer for bleaching, toning and colouring, but they will generally require different strengths and be geared towards different purposes so if you want to do it by the book get the matching developer to the toner that's recommended by the manufacturer.

There's so many products on the market that it's easy to get confused, I learnt all from observing my stylist and watching professionals use different products and techniques on youtube, it really gives you an idea of what to look out for.

Two questions. I'll look through and answer anything I can.
I was walking around town a few hours yesterday. Even though I had sunscreen on (home mixture moisturizer/sunscreen, I guess not enough sunscreen component in it), I still got a slight sunburn, especially on my nose. Wrong. I'm also a christmas cake and look like a high schooler. I had tons of sunburn as a kid/teen because my parents didn't care about me and I didn't know any better. You have a permanent increase in chance of skincancer, and the damage is done. But you can't change the past. Now whenever I get the slightest tinge of sunburn I freak out. I wish I could sue my parents but that's too dickish even for me (and they don't have any money anyway.) Those at home lasers are nowhere near powerful enough to actually make a noticeable difference. Think about it, why would the FDA allow medical grade lasers to be used by the general public?
Secondly, look up "laser induced hair growth" or paradoxical hypertrichosis.
They don't know why it happens to about 6-10% of people who have laser hair removal, but it does happen and it is a real pain in the ass to get rid of because using more laser won't get rid of it.
Do more research, think it over properly, but being hair free will definitely cost you more than $400 if you're wanting permanence or anything long lasting.

I thought this should go without saying but maybe not now that you have mentioned you don’t know anything about makeup lol, you should make sure your skin is well taken care of and moisturized. Try adding a drop or two of argan oil to your moisturizer.

My under eye area is especially dry and flakes easily, no concealer I've tried has worked (although I haven't tried that many to be fair) which sucks because I have pretty bad dark circles

know what type of skin you have. if it's dry, foundation will essentially crust around what skin flakes you have. if it's oily, foundation could separate. foundations with a matte finish are not great for dry skin, and those with a glowy finish may make an oily person look like they exercised for 4 straight hours in it.

It really comes down to your hair type - if your hair is thinner (each hair itself being thin) and/or you have fewer hair follicles (genetics) your hair won't naturally have a ton of volume. Certain styles, like curling it with a large curling iron can help.

Regarding greasy hair - you can try the following:

- Before you shower, brush your hair and spend a few minutes massaging your scalp with the pads of your fingers. This will help loosen up dead skin and natural oils clinging to the dead skin, so it rinses easier when you shampoo and rinse
- Shampoo your hair twice in the shower, paying special attention to massaging your scalp each time you shampoo and rinse
- Make sure you're applying conditioner and any post-shower products to the ends of your hair
- If you don't wash daily (you shouldn't) apply a dry shampoo at night between washes. Dry shampoo works best when applied at night, so it has time to absorb excess oils on the scalp.

Use an oil absorbing powder before you leave the house, and blot like a MF throughout the day.

All I do all day is sit in front of a computer (office job) and have to blot twice on the dryest, coldest winter months. In summer I go through 3-4 big Japanese blotting papers in an 8 hour period, then 1-2 more when I get home if I plan on keeping my makeup on after work.

My face looks nice and matte, I just have to go through a lot of blotting paper to keep it that way. The Japanese brands offer more value for your money - you get 70-75 big sheets for ~$5 as opposed to Clean & Clear, for which you get 30 papers for $6.

I placed another order after the first one to take advantage of the free skin lotion and BHA liquid giveaway

The Paulas Choice toner, BHA liquid, night mask, and face lotion with the SPF 30 have all really helped my face clear up and I feel like it's helped return my face complexion to being paler too
However the toner and BHA have also dried out the area around my nose so I can't use them every day
So I sub it with snail bee serum and the neutragina face mask for extra dry skin
Although my skin normally isn't dry

I have been using the sunblock any time I go out during the day however it's not that often and once it's winter again I won't have to put up with the sun at all driving to work in the evening

This got me thinking too, so here's my take on it.
Instahoe: heavy eye, lip, brow and too much bronzer/ counturing
Normal: (What I see girls around me wearing/work make-up/ going out make-up) Heavy brow but not over exaggerated, light to medium eye make-up, blush and lip light to medium coverage but not over exaggerated. I wear light coverage then whats ion the pictures.
J-fashion: (lolita, larme, girly j-fashion) natural brows, blush on cheek apples(?). I find I either do more eye or more lip make up.

I dunno, this is just what I see in my area (small city near capital city) so it's college girls, well-to-do old women and yummy mummies.

I think it starts getting into instahoe territory when you add elements like dark, sharply defined brows, contour (especially on the hollows of the cheeks), and overdrawn or bold lips. Jfash makeup tends to use lighter colors (brown instead of black eyeliner, pink or coral instead of plum blushes) in general, and minimal coverage. A lot of it is also that western / instahoe makeup favors making your features more angular, while jfash tries to round things out for a more youthful look (hence the lack of contour).

Pic related is an example of how instahoe makeup clashes with jfash, which is especially noticeable when it's something like sweet lolita. Imo, while it's theoretically possible for someone to pair some normie makeup elements with jfash in a way that looks good and suits them, I find that's very rare in practice, and you can never go wrong with keeping it light and sweet (assuming it's a girlier style and not gothic lolita or something).

>> No.9950319

>>9948765
I don't necessarily believe that Western makeup trends are unsuitable for lolita, but the very stark cut creases and dark instabrows are usually too dark for a lolita color palette. Gothic coords can get away with more dramatic contouring and brows, but I think if you wear sweet or classic, I'd make an attempt to soften the eye look and not make it as saturated. A slight pop of color is acceptable, maybe to match tones in your coord, but I would avoid using too many bright colors in one look. I like to mix trends, and no one's complained so far...

I also have very oily skin, after i wash my face / shower I moisturize it right away. after that dries, primer. you need to choose good products that aren’t oily already. when i’m ready to put my make up on, put on setting spray (learned on YouTube) then foundation + etc then setting spray again. also important to choose a foundation that is not oily already!! ud 24 lock in foundation is really good, and nars foundation. I don’t use powder because it makes your skin dry, you want a balance so your skin won’t overproduce oils.

>How do I identify it?

Wash your face with a gentle cleanser, and do NOTHING to your skin for 30 minutes. Then look in a mirror.

Does your skin feel tight, does it look dull?
>Dry skin

Does your skin look shiny? When you rub your cheek/nose/chin/forehead on the back of your hand, do you see a shiny spot on your hand?
>Oily

Is your skin tight/dull in some areas, and shiny in others?
>combo skin

If skin feels a bizarre combination of all of above: Probably dehydrated skin. Focus on moisture like panthenol and hyaluron acid and avoid heavy film forming products with ingredients like glycerin

My old Clarisonic is getting to the point where it doesn't hold a charge for more than about two uses. Anybody here got a recommendation for a replacement? I know plenty of other companies have made similar things to piggyback in the time since I bought mine. No preference for brush vs silicone, if there's a good alternative there. I just want it for cleansing and maybe massaging in masks.

This is an old post but for anyone else who might get sunburned: soak a towel in brewed black tea and cover the burned area with the damp towel. It should lift some of the burning sensation.

I am 20 years old with skin tags and eczema on my eyelids. Please recommend me some products to help them look somewhat normal. I have been considering laser resurfacing. I have used retinol on my eyelids to no avail. I have also increased my vitamin intake, and have used Etude House moistful collagen water cream. Thank you, desu.

try something with snail filtrate for the eczema. as for the skin tags, you'll have to remove them or get them removed.

Has anyone here contacted Deciem/The Ordinary for product/routine suggestions? I keep reading good about their products and my skin is so horrifying that I'm ready to drop cash on a bunch of stuff in one go if it'll just make my skin look decent.
How to go on about building a skincare routine for very blemished skin? I got everything from old crater-like acne scars, dark scarring from more recent acne, acne, whiteheads, redness on some spots, uneven skintone, visible pores, dark undereye, etc.
I've tried many things through the years and all dermatologists I've been too never helped. My skin is still a mess and I'm a little desperate.

I tried stuff from the ordinary, namely their glycolic acid for my acne. But honestly I was targeting the wrong thing. The acne turned out to actually be rosacea, and when I went on oral antibiotics my skin became super clear to the point where I'm very confident wearing no makeup. The glycolic acid just irritated my skin and caused my rosacea to flare, and when I stopped it, it went away.

At the very least if the dermatologist cannot find the right product for you, you should find what the cause of your blemishes are and research online what to do for that. I can't give further advice than that unfortunately.

I think The Ordinary is great and very cheap for the value. I have tried their retinol oil and their retinol emulsion with the same concentration and they both work well when applied before going to bed - just remember to sunscreen every day if you use retinol. The emulsion seems to work even better on redness and overall skin suppleness but I am not sure why. I use the oil in combination with their generic hydrator which I also use for my hands. Their AHA/BHA peeling solution is very gentle but also has very mild results. Their caffeine solution instead is the only thing that actually works against my dark circles - however I need to keep up with it or they will get more visible again.

This brand generally works pretty well for me, but then again my choice is very limited because most skincare products, while being effective, cause my skin to break out. The Ordinary and Avene are the only brands which do not aggravate my proneness to acne.

Dermatologists only tell me I have acne (well duh), one prescribed me a spot treatment cream that burned my skin, another prescribed me pills that brought me no changes. I think I have kinda crap luck finding dermatologists because all the ones I've been too barely spend time listening and actually looking at my skin and just send me away with "you got acne, use this that I'm prescribing". I used to do weird light therapy to my acne when I was little and got loads of old scarring to boot. I still have no clue what exactly causes my acne.
Thank you for your input and relaying your own experience! I will try to further research and hope I can figure out what's up with my skin..

>>9954445
Thank you for your opinion as well, it's great to know The Ordinary hasn't caused your skin to further breakout because I've had that issue with other brands too. Really appreciate the thoughts on the specific products you tried too, I'll look them up!

Sorry for the unflattering shot but I've been dealing with this for YEARS and it's so annoying. Basically this area of my face has these sort of skin tag-like things where it's just a thin line of skin (like if hair was made of skin is the best way to describe this) and no matter how often or how hard I exfoliate they won't go away. I have to tweeze them or they look like I have a 13 year old boys facial hair. What is this shit called, and how do I get rid of it???

Fuck it. I'm buying that lazer hair remover and some whitening cream for my perma-farmer's tan arms. Eventually I want to get at my face, I have some freckles. Good product? I have freckles all over my body and I'm sick of them. That'll be with the next amazon order though.

Fuck underwear, I started going commando and I haven't looked back. I could wear cotton shorts or girl-boxers but fuck it, commando is better anyway. Now I only wear panties on my period.

I got one of those real safety razors, kind with the straightblades or whatever, and it's a huge improvement. I do have dry, reddish, chafed skin on my groin because cyclist problems but I try to keep moisturizer on those parts.

Your skin is extremely dry. Do physical exfoliation 2-3x a week and keep good moisturizer on it. should also help with those whiteheads. Don't wear makeup for a while, let your skin heal.

What's a good facial cleanser to use? I'm new to skincare, and the first one I've tried is this product: https://www.amazon.com/Neutrogena-Naturals-Purifying-Facial-Cleanser/dp/B004D268RA
Now, I've only used it consistently for about 3 days, but I'm severely concerned about whether I should continue to do so. Every time I put this on, I come out of the shower with my face red and burning hot, which I'm pretty fucking sure is not supposed to happen, but I could be wrong. Depending on what retinol percentage you're using, the retinol could be drying the ever-loving shit out of your skin. Maybe try decreasing the percentage of the retinol as low doses still deliver anti-aging effects. Your skin just could be super dehydrated.

I tried it for the eczema on my eyelids, it is so drying for me. Because of the alcohol, I don't recommend it. Vaseline is what I've been using often, (on eczema) but it also has a crusty effect after it dries.
