I just wear opaque tights or normie shorts. You shouldn't see them anyways, and my petti keeps my skirt up enough to not need the "bloomers give poof too!" argument.

As long as you have something that prevents potential pantyshots, you'll be fine. Bloomers are just the cute option. But in the end, they should be hidden so you wear them for yourself.

>>9924255
I already get hesitant at 20 euro for a piece of hidden, unnoticeable shorts. This is why I don't have actual bloomers. Why would I pay so much for something hidden when it doesn't add to the outfit? If you do peaking bloomers I get it, but else it's mainly for yourself to buy cute bloomers over opaque tights or normal shorts.

>> No.9924750

>>9924745
>it's mainly for yourself to buy cute bloomers over opaque tights or normal shorts
I mean, yeah, that's kind of the point.
I'm not about to argue with you or convince you to wear bloomers, it's fine if you don't like them; but personally I feel that bloomers do add to the coord, even if most of the time only I know I'm wearing them at all. It's a small detail that makes coords feel more complete - Again, feel complete, not look complete. Maybe it's unnecessary or frivolous but you could say the same thing about lolita as a whole, and I know several people who do think this way about the fashion and how "excessive" it is.
Again, not arguing with you, feel free to continue wearing tights and shorts if that's what you prefer; just offering a different perspective and maybe an explanation as to why someone would want to spend a certain amount of money on a garment that isn't really visible.

>> No.9924754

>>9924750
Oh I can defiantly understand. Sometimes, it's great to have something fancy even when you are the only one who even knows about it. It was more directed to the "bloomers are essential" thing.

Like, they are not. They are a nice fancy option, but as long as you're protected from accidental pantys-shots, it's not essential it's covered with bloomers.

Yeah. I prefer the see-thru ones but there are also ones made out of solid material. I put my dry cleaning-only main pieces in these to I can get them clean when I can afford it and then preserve them in that state for longer via the bag.

>> No.9924776

>>9924754
Bloomers are essential for a lolita. Lolita is not about what others can see when you're standing perfectly still, it's about what you want to wear for yourself. Still, I'm so glad others in my comm wear bloomers too. When you go on stairs, sit down a certain way etc you can see them. You may accidentally flash someone and I'd hate to see your normie shorts at that time. I would really feel like I saw something embarrassing. Btw they can also be used as roomwear or sleepwear.

So if I understand what you're saying, people want to take pics with you when you and your girlfriend wear matching coords, right? Matching or twinning can make you look more like you're wearing costumes, especially if you're both in lolita, because people don't realize that these clothes are available for purchase (how often have you heard the "did you make this?" question?), they assume that these are outfits or costumes made for the purpose of matching one another.
It's a bit strange but really you can't expect much from normies who don't know better. As long as they're not laying their hands on you like normies sometimes do, and as long as they do this with your consent, I don't see an issue.

It's not about wind strength or how you "behave in a skirt" as it is the amount of fabric in your skirts or the cuts you wear: Narrow A-line and cupcake skirts don't catch wind as easily as fuller skirts do.

This thread convinced me of the advantages of bloomers, but as lovely as the Millefleurs ones are, I can't justify putting down 18,000 for them when I've only paid like 15,000 for a jetj coat NWT. Got a black BPN one on WW for 3000, they had another black one but predictably Meta = raschel lace so nope, and a pink maximam one that they advertised as BIG SIZE, also nope. There are times when I think someone is pretty cute and they’re labeled a disaster, or others where people are fawning and I just don’t get what’s so great. Some of that can just be chalked up to opinion, but I feel like I am missing something as well.

I totally understand your confusion. The thing is often on here people will say someone's coord is bad because they hate them, or are crazy nitpicking. Similar to how often people on here call girls fat that are clearly not fat but they will try to argue that they are.

What makes an obviously bad coord is wearing items that are clearly not meant for lolita or don't go with it at all, wearing super cheap accessories, bad handmade that just looks off, mismatching colors and themes, normal shoes and blouses are big offenders.

Sometimes people will say a coord is bad because it doesn't suit the person's body, but it can still be a good coord. You have to kind of read in-between the lines with cgl sometimes desu. It might be more helpful if you post specific examples that were deemed bad coords that you think are good and we can tell you if they're bad.

Also sometimes people label super basic, full set, or cookie cutter coords bad but that doesn't mean they are.

I would recommend this only with dresses or skirts of sturdy polyester that you can wash, and that don't have a thin layer of chiffon anywhere. Best dark colors too. This is the kind of wardrobe that I take along travelling.

Shoes: if you have any Clarks or other leather midrange/midheel that fit your coord and that you've owned long enough that you know you can wear them all day, go with them. Tea parties and other cheap lolita shoes will kill you.

Wearing lolita at cons and non-lolita events: do you judge someone if they opt for lazy/comfortable footwear like simple flats?

>>9927175
I don't necessarily judge, I won't call you names or think less of you if you come to an event in more comfortable shoes; I do wonder though, why do you consider flats comfortable? They make your feet look terrible and duck-like and they have no arch support.
If you have no other option then go with what works for you, maybe even bring two pairs with you so you can change into the more comfortable one at some point; but imo next time you should prepare better in advance, a pair with even 1cm heel is better than nothing at all.

I totally do judge. Imo if you want comfort, either dress more comfortably in either fairy kei or otome or wear teaparties with sole cushions. Flats are not more comfortable at all as there is no support there and sneakers just look downright dumb with lolita 99% of the time.

For a while I had very few shoes and every time I wore my only blue shoes it would hurt like hell walking for more than an hour or so. I would pack comfier normie shoes with me to travel to and from the location, and maybe put them on closer to the end of the even when if I'm absolutely dying. But you gotta either commit to the look, commit to a comfier look, or not be cheap and just get comfier
lolita shoes.

I actually think flats can work with some summery, casual coords where everything else is kept minimal anyway, but speaking as someone with scoliosis I'm cringing at the thought of spending 10 hours in flats. Most manufacturers skimp on their padding, especially the roll-up types, so you can usually feel the floor right through them.

If your con is still some time away I'd suggest hitting up your shoe shops for orthopedic shoes. You can pick out some simple plain pumps, then paint them with Angelus leather paint or glitter+modgepodge to get the colours you want.

Now, if we're talking jelly sandals, or an OTT princess dress with running sneakers, then ngl I'd be judging pretty hard.

Thanks for the honest input! Specifically I'm thinking about bringing pic related or something with a low heel like my wallace shoes (posting a pic after this). They're part of my work wardrobe but I've had success commuting comfortably while wearing them so I feel more secure about the choice.

I can't speak for others but I personally find both of those shoes more comfortable than the ap or aatp heels I own when worn for an extended period of time. Teaparties are hands down the most comfortable lolita shoes I've worn, unfortunately my tastes have changed and they don't really match my wardrobe anymore- so that's not a realistic option at this time.

Do you guys have suggestions for other comfortable bands I should check out? I've been eyeing fluevogs but I haven't pulled the trigger yet. I'm still fleshing out my plans so I'm not really opposed to skipping lolita if I can't find a moderate solution.

Totally agree that they're less bulky, but I'm mortally afraid of snagging them on something. I avoid taking anything delicate out where there might be savages with lit cigarettes, or idiots with muh steampunk with metal crap swinging around, or kids with icecream hands mistaking my ruffles for a towel (I don't even wear gingham). My feet are peculiar and in Clarks I've ended up walking up to seventeen km.

>> No.9927263

>>9927175
I don't judge flats on two conditions:
1. They're not the cheap looking crap on sale for $10 - 20 at every big box store, the sole is cardboard thin and you're almost walking next to them, they're that bad quality (invest in repetto, pretty ballerinas, sam edelman, clarks, or any other decent flat that keeps its shape and has a sole that is somewhat solid). If you can walk with a slight heel, just around inch or so, always looks better than flat as a pancake. They also offer more support.

And 2: the color matches your coord. Real leather is always best, canvas and jelly shoes are just no.

Sneakers are out of the question unless you have the full coord casual, like with one of those bunny ear hoodies from btssb.

Scholls and Sara Max. Clarks also does very comfy shoes, but they have several lines of somewhat different tech so I advise buying them in-store so that you can try them all out, some lines are comfier than others. Downside is that they all look rather normie so you'd have to let them be the least interesting part of your outfit.

For fashion shoes, what I'd suggest is buy a half size larger, then pad it out with inserts. Probably not something you can do with existing shoes, maybe with future purchases. I just haven't figured out what to do with those long narrow toeboxes that my feet don't really fit into.

Try Cobb Hill as well. They're like Clarks, designed to be comfortable for standing/walking long hours. They're real leather and have quite a few styles that are great for classic.

Also seconding inserts: I use get/padded inserts in all of my Japanese brand shoes (Queen Bee, Yosuke, etc.) for two reasons. 1) These shoes don't have as much support/padding as higher-end normie shoes I wear and 2) it protects the insole from wear and I want to keep all my burando (including accessories) as pristine as I can.

I can wear flats for hours (also not the cheap kind, around $200 a pair but they last forever, I don't see myself paying that for pleather tea parties made in China), and sure, they have no arch support, but I'm fit and my arches support themselves. They also don't collapse like the cheap kind, and the leather isn't soft enough to stretch every which way.

>>9927519
lol my feet aren't flat, and my arches don't collapse like that when I'm barefeet, and not when I'm in flats. If your feet look like that there's something seriously wrong, maybe do something about it? I'm pretty sure that kind of posture is best corrected through exercise. Not everyone has these obvious health problems. Flat feet used to be a reason to be banned from signing up for the army, so it can't be that common.
