Friday was great because of the meetup I went to and the BRADIO concert. The rest was really average so I'd give it a 7/10 overall.

>Did you see any good panels?
Nope

>What did you do for food?
Walked 3 blocks north of the convention center for a billion options

>How was your con?
Pretty good but I think I liked last years better in Dallas.

>Did you see any good panels?
Yeah.

>What did you do for food?
J's Burger was right down the street.

>How about dem lines?
Always annoying.

I liked the Omni overall. Very nice hotel. As usual, the heat and the general unhygienic population majority was a major annoyance.

6/10. See you next year.

She didn't make much of an effort to interact with other people in her own comm at the event. She mostly kept to one small group and they literally just stood in a corner and took selfies all day. I think the only other person she interacted with was a girl who came up to her laying it on thick that she loved her instagram/blog/whatever. Jesus Christ. Look. I work actual event staffing. Like I get paid to do this as a job, not some little weekend gig sometimes. I know how hard it is to make sure things run smooth. But I at least still know how to not act like a total cunt waffle. One model complains about rude staff and a tea attendee complains about the same thing. If you're not staff, why do you care so damn much? Friends with the staff? Then shut your mouth because this isn't about you. Mind your business you're making the staff look worse.

They were legitimate complaints and nothing even scathing was remarked. All that was said was "they're rude and need to work on that". That's it. Very unprofessional to remark back by calling people bitches. These are fellow attendees that you're talking about and people who VOLUNTEERED to model for the brands so that you know....there would be a show.

On that note, since you're apparently totally not staff, the fact that you're suddenly sharing private information about past staff members (who were only mentioned in passing) and private complaints means that you're not a very trustworthy person and the staff members who blabbed to you should really watch out what they say and to whom. No one asked for details people even said they didn't care about past drama. We're talking about the shitty attitude by current staff who need to work on that and YOUR attitude isn't helping. I didn't think the DFW comm had such loud and incredibly obnoxious lolitas who heavily white knighted people over legitimate concerns, but here we are. How ugly.

Baby's translator was short tempered with the models and made a ill timed joke about punching people if they asked questions, then got annoyed when people didn't ask and made mistakes in the rehearsal.
Aomeobe, not sure which, walked into the room and announce loudly that none of us should talk to the guests. Which would be completely understandable if it was said in a less rude way.
A lot of it in my opinion was just being short on patience and phrasing it in a way that was borderline aggressive. All you have to say is "Sorry guys, I know you are interested in meeting the guests but you can do so at their official panel. We are on a time crunch" , you know?

First things first, the lines on Thursday for registration were awful. I had a fast pass and still waited over 2 hours to get my badge. I heard the convention center's wifi went down but if that was the case they should have just tethered some phones as wifi hotspots to get things going, my phone was just fine. And what was up with them blaring music at registration so once you got up there you couldn't hear what the staff was saying? Anyways if that happens again the best thing you can do as an attendee is just be ready when you get to the front of the line so you can scan your QR, show you ID, get your badge and get out of line. The lines sucked. The volunteers don't need to hear about it from every single person.

I hear a lot of complaints about the food, but this is one of the best conventions for good food, just not at the convention center. Two streets north you have everything from fast food to upscale dining. Use the trolley to go to Sundance Square and you have even more options.

Most of the con staff I interacted with was nice as was the staff at the Sheraton. The convention center staff seemed to be a little hostile towards the con goers though.

All the good events got crammed into Saturday. The schedule from 10am to 6pm was jam packed with stuff to do. Thursday, Friday and Sunday were barren. I get nothing wanting to compete with the gaming tournaments and cosplay contest Saturday night, but they need to spread stuff out a little more to the other days.

Maybe not yelling at us to not touch the shitty decorations? Something like "Please don't take the centerpieces, thank you!" would've been better. And also coming around to introduce themselves to the tables or at least say hi to the attendees that they're hosting. I saw them say hi to some people and readily avoid others. Like you don't have to be my friend but at least asking your attendees if they're having a good time is a good idea. I literally saw the guests try to be more social than they did. I'm not asking them to wait on my hand and foot, I'm just confused why they didn't do the same pleasantries they always have.

Because A-Kon is a convention where people travel to. It's not just for your con. If you want a hugbox with your comm, do comm Teas. If you can't handle criticism from others then you start sounding mighty Matsuri-ish.

And look. I know some girls in your comm who are wonderful quality people. But when you've got multiple people complaining, then people need to own up and change instead of just ignoring it. Can't handle listening to other attendees who aren't gonna say nice things? Don't do conventions. Especially ones as large as this one.

And ESPECIALLY when you've set the bar so high and been consistent for two years. It's not to say there weren't problems those years either, but at least those years people weren't white knighting and sounding like Daniela's "if you're mean, you don't need to be here" bullshit. If shit happens, people are gonna talk. You can't take the spotlight and only expect to hear good things. Glad y'all enjoyed it, but these events aren't just for you.

>snatch game panel

I came in with no expectations, yet I was still disappointed. What sucked was that none of the contestants were IN CHARACTER (which is the whole point), the thing that makes actual snatch game good is that it’s S C R I P T E D. The panelists should have thought this out more, and gotten more panelists to act instead of relying on audience volunteers. It was just shitty memes and vine references. I’m REEing so hard at this just because I’m a fag for drag race.

But at least they weren’t late to their own panel.

The idea is very good in theory though, this was just poorly executed.

Took the words right out of my mouth. Matsuri mentality has always been "if you don't like it, don't go, we don't want your opinions". It shuts out any room for improvement and turns it into an inner circle problem where nobody listens to the opposition. Indtead of just attacking people who didn't have a good time, the staff (and friends/whiteknights) should listen to it and try to improve for next year and the years to come if they want to keep having attendees. Attacking everyone who disagrees is literally AM's MO. We don't need a-kon to stoop to the same level. None of us care about the main drama that led to change, we care about the events in comparison to the past years. A-kon set a high bar for lolita events, and this year it did not surpass it. Staff, learn from your mistakes. Listen to the complaints. Don't start fights to defend yourselves or you're no better than AM.

You're exaggerating, there was only one girl from Houston who was staff as far as I know and she was very sweet.

The food for the tea party left a lot to be desired but my main issue was the fact it was so disorganized. There was no real schedule structured and the bead game (which was dumb and childish af) made getting food confusing. The staff let the room get chaotic and allowed people to take advantage by taking as much food as possible or going back for more before other tables were allowed to go. The bead game also ruined the raffle since they didn't plan correctly for how many people would have gotten more than 2. My friends and I were really disappointed since we thought we would have a better shot at the raffle and didn't want to make a fool of ourselves over cheap beads. They also messed up the best dressed coordination contest by not giving time for any of the guest judges to talk to each other since half of them were going to pick the same girl. Even the guests were lost on what to do after the staff left them standing at the front of the stage.

I heard so much praise for the previous tea parties but traveling and spending money on this sad event made me regret buying a ticket. I could forgive the food and decor since they moved out of the hilton and into the con center, but they should have known better on how to organize a tea party.

Look, saltanon, no convention staff anywhere is entitled to good feedback on their events solely based on previous years. Losing your temper over critical feedback on /cgl/ of all places is the exact wrong way to conduct yourself. Most embarrassing behavior indeed.

>>9911353
>"if you hate us so much don't come here!"
No. If you guys want people to continue attending your convention for lolita events then you need to stop being so defensive and listen to what your attendees have to say. If you and your comm don't want to deal with the increased level of pressure and expectations that come hand in hand with increased exposure, then don't host panels and events at a major convention. I think all the people complaining about R being rude during rehearsal have never done any performing. I used to do some performance-heavy activities (think dance, but not exactly) and we would get yelled at if we didn't follow directions. It's not about rudeness, it's just the fastest way to make your point in the short amount of time before the show. I’m really glad to see k8 has either improved on her makeup skills or had someone else do application for her during the con. Her amount of shoop is much more obvious after meeting her irl but at least her foundation isn’t as crusty looking and eyeliner doesn’t look so much like some kid’s crayola scribbles.

As for the fashion show most of the girls looked very well put together. K8’s chicken walk and almost being able to see her twat we’re about the only unfortunate bits I could spot. I hope that she can continue to improve, maybe even relax a little both in her walks and around others. Other than that, there was one girl in a finally dress that was in desperate need of a wig that’s not ratty. Great job to anyone else in the show, your posing and walking cadence was impressive.

It’s just turds kissing ass and for what reason I’m not even sure. Personally I like R, I understand the stress of this type of industry and it does make you quite bitchy when volunteer models waste your valuable time by stepping out of line but R is not the type to care for ass kissing.

>>9913084
Agreed. Professional career models deal with much worse but they either get over it or give up being in that industry. Designers and agencies do give a shit about bratty girls feeling entitled from their follower count, you’re always going to be replaceable so either swallow your pride and follow exact direction or get out. Anyone whining about creative directors or stage staff putting them in check doesn’t belong and should stick with indie designers.

Did they aren't professional models. They are volunteers wearing fancy clothes. They don't do this outside of a con. And those that claim they do are lying through their teeth to try and get attention. I did not see anyone with a legit model body on that stage.

You wouldn't have a damn show for your over priced shit clothes if it weren't for the volunteer models. Get over yourself and stop treating people so badly who are doing you a favor.

Obviously they’re volunteer models, it’s not exactly rocket science to figure that out. But volunteer or not they will be held to the same standards as career models just on a lesser scale. You will be held accountable for your level of professionalism volunteer or not, it’s that simple.

And I’m not sure why you’re coming at me for treating anyone badly, I’m not R and it’s pretty stupid to blindly make that assumption based on just having knowledge of how this kind of shit goes down. Analyze a little better next time.

On a side note, did anyone have any unlucky experiences with con creeps?

You aren't putting on real fashion shows for top brands, you're pulling together volunteer shows with minimal attendance at anime conventions for niche brands at best, but also for crappy no-name brands. Maybe I could shed some light on what happened behind the scenes Saturday morning. So the morning of the convention. The convention center was suppose to let two groups in. One at 7pm and one at 8pm. If you weren't early enough or dragged behind you missed the first escorted group. Of course the convention center security did not show up on time to let us in.

When we arrived at the fashion show room we had to hurry to set up because the staff did not expect to be locked out for so long. This is really stressful when you have 45+ models to get make up, hair and dressed and rehearsed before the 11:30 show. Not to mention we had no idea when the stragglers would be let in.

When we arrived to the stage had not been built by the con. And they left allot of equipment on the stage we were not allowed to remove. The people who could build the stage were no where to be found. The sounds guys were no where to be found, and the models had to get in some practice time. So the staff did what we could under the pressure we had. I apologize if we seemed short with the models who volunteered. But this is what was going on.

It's easy to point fingers at one person and say they are soul responsible for your bad time. But there were allot of factors that went into things going wrong that morning. It could of gone allot worse. I will not deny there are improvements that need to be made by the staff and the convention center involved. However know you no what happened behind the scenes.

>> No.9914714

Why do we care what you have to say if you can't even spell correctly?
I understand that the morning situation was not ideal, but as a staff member, the stage situation and staffing, those are things you should have dealt with way in advance in order to ensure things work.

>> No.9914723

>>9914596
I'm not a stranger to these events so I understand the stress that occurs when things don't go as planned. But with maybe one or two exceptions, none of the comments I've read here seem scathing or personal. Most are from attendees telling you what they did and didn't like and what they think could use some work. It's feedback. It's business. People who pay a lot of money to attend events don't tend to care about backstage hiccups, and they don't care how emotionally invested you are as an organizer, either, as frustrating as that is. You're always going to have something that could use improvement or people who want to grouse without contributing anything helpful. The best thing you can do for yourselves is to take the feedback you've received into account for next year's planning instead of letting yourselves get baited by 4chan.

>> No.9914737

>>9914714
Nayrt, but it's kind of hard to handle stage issues in advance when you don't know they're going to happen. In years' past the stage wasn't a problem, so how were they supposed to know there would be an issue this time?

>>9914723
Why should feedback on here be taken seriously when the people complaining can't even be mature enough to post their concerns publically instead of anonymously? After this thread expires staff will quickly forget about the feedback and do what they planned for next year regardless of what's been said here. If the attendees want change they should say something on a site that isn't a board just to gossip.

>> No.9914801

>>9914737
Not the one you replied to, but I think this is more of a problem with the lolita community in that way. We have kind of a community where if you speak negatively people tend to think you're bitchy. Even if the criticism is mild. It's kind of weird but the Lolita Community by trying to be so nice and welcoming on the surface tends to push out a lot of weirdly volatile stuff on gossip boards and stuff.
It's like we can't talk like normal people.
Honestly it's probably because we're a big bunch of nerds and don't know how to express things up front.

The problem is that attendees gave feedback and staff/friends of staff felt the need to get overly defensive and call the people with some minor complaints names. My friend said the sound was not that great, but it didn't seem that bad to me as a casual. I would come to A-kon again just for the concerts, I'm happy that they're seated (no other con seems to offer this without ticketed & paid option) and they got an arena stage. I’ve seen people who support AM as well as people who are extremely anti-AM sit at the same table during Jfashion events and no nuclear war occurs. I see a lot of the older, maturer lolitas there.

Also since when is it a trash con? They always have dope, rare musical guests and it seems like the Jfashion events are pretty damn substantial.
