There's a time and a place where mixing mainstream fashion brands and J-fashion makes sense; sometimes it's because of fit issues, sometimes there are problems with importing and sometimes you're just looking for more options, perhaps even the luxury of getting to try something out in person before committing to buying it.

Please name-drop your favorite brands to mix back in with J-fashion, or if there's a particular item available out there that just really, really seems to jam well with a specific J-fashion style. Extra points for pictures and Coord ideas.

Here are some to start:
>Kate Spade New York (novelty-themed handbags, shoes and jewelry that is often released in themed seasonal collections)
> Irregular Choice (Hyper-artistic shoes that are richly detailed, themed and limited edition collaborations with Disney and other companies)
>American Duchess (Historically accurate shoes, including models from the 1700s, Victorian and Edwardian eras)

Viviene Westwood shoes and jewelry

Betsy Johnson purses and jewelry

Fluevog shoes

Otherwise I use a lot of vintage shit and gunne sax to compliment my brand main pieces.

I've never owned a Gunne Sax piece myself, but I have run into their dresses at thrift stores and I will vouch for the quality of the trims, notions and material quality.

When it comes to Lolita fashion, I find I need to stick with western fashion brands for blouses and tights... But the truth is I always kinda grab my tights / OTKs kind of last-minute at Nordstroms or something... Is there a really good sock store online somewhere? Or a company in the US that has physical stores, with the focus being on socks / tights specifically?

These threads are a conspiracy started by some soccermom with tacky as hell taste, who's admitted to working at this store in a previous thread and this must be a desperate attempt to increase her sales so that she can impress that bitch Becky at the country club.

in all honesty though these threads are horrible and hardly relevant to the board, like why can't you post this crap on pinterest where it belongs instead of assaulting our precious loli eyes?

Sorry I'm not doing a good job. I was just looking at AP's us website and I wanted to try coording current releases with current releases between the two stores. The basket you featured I did see IRL and it is rather large compared to most novelty bags, which I don't know is a good thing or a bad thing for carrying around all day.

What's really cool about those Betsey Johnson phone bags is you can actually plug your phone into them and use the receiver.

Have you ever actually owned a Kate Spade bag, anon? If you compare it to a normal brand bag, there is no competition. It's sturdy, made of real leather, and is actually worth it's price. The fact they come in themes is just an added bonus for lolitas who want something not made out of that horrible pleather. Pic is Kate Spade vs. Taobao vs. Brand bags.

That KS bag does look lovely but that Baby bag was a freebie in a mook, I think? It's not Baby's regular quality at all. Their regular quality is still pleather of course, I'm just saying that comparing a brand new bag with a scratched up freebie isn't a good comparison.

All of these are cute for novelty coords but none of the bags and accessories easily transfer to another coord unless you have more than one similarly themed main piece so that’s quite a bit to spend on limited-use accessories. I can see getting >>9902562 or >>9905537 which would go with more things though. I am not really impressed with lolita brand bags, I’d rather have a quality high street bag than a novelty brand purse. Maybe if I had 3 or more coordinates I could use it in. But to me, the novelty bag is the piece that way too often looks either badly matched or looks shoe-horned into a coord. Also although I hate to say it, a woman over 30 who is already in a very frilly dress with twee shoes and unusual head wear looks better with a more regular shaped bag than with a unicorn purse or a bear pochette.

Kate Spade was running another brand called Frances Valentine at the time of her death.

People are so upset is because she took her own life at a young age. There are people who still haven't gotten over Alexander McQueen's death. When Kate Spade began selling, she brought something new and different to the fashion world.

Can someone help me out with some gothic appropriate shoes? I've been mostly a gothic lolita and wanted to delve a little bit more into normal gothic shoes, but can't seem to find anything quality or leather. I keep reading reviews over Demonia's and Doll Kill shoes, neither of which sounds great at all, actually having their platforms fall off. Doc Marten's have a reputation of being good, but I'm not personally fond of their style and they ought to be for what they're made for. Their quality has apparently also fallen off just slightly since they're usually Chinese factories now.

>> No.9906815

>>9906772
Demonia's driven a lot of companies out of business... it's the same company as Pleaser and a bunch of other brands (Bordello, Funtasma, etc). Underground UK and Pennangalan used to have good options but probably not so much now. Every cool goth girl in the 90s had a pair of Smegg Magic boots. Fluevog and Neosens may be worth a look. Jeffrey Campbell often has nice stuff but not always goth stuff.

>> No.9906825

I feel like people who post stuff like this don't actually wear lolita and are just looking for participation points. I don't know of any lolitas who would buy many accessories like these instead of brand accessories that will also match their other lolita coords. Maybe a bag once in a while.
Those shoes? Really?

>> No.9906869

>>9906825
OP's pic definitely isn't cute, but a lot of brand accessories are terrible quality. I'd much rather have high quality shoes and bags from a reputable western designer, than have some flakey PU leather mess that only matches one main piece, just because it's magical japanese burando. People have been mixing lolita with western brands since the style began. Look at all the Vivienne Westwood in old street snaps. Brand accessories just aren't nearly as nice, even if they do match. I wish they'd step up their quality so we could have nice things that match exactly, but that's probably never going to happen.

I like high street and lolita mixed when it is done well and I agree about the brand bag and accessory quality (plastic glitter rings, anyone?).

You forget that many people who have been wearing lolita a while are now in their 30’s and up. Misako is in her thirties. Many lolita designers are 40’s and up. So mid-fifties doesn’t seem that old to many. It’s subjective.
