I've taken every one of my best European tag items and slapped 'em on and it just isn't enough. Do I have to clutch or something to get S by actually using skills this time?

If you don't already: decomposing items, especially extra pavillion drops that don't have an icon indicating it can be used for evolution, crafting or customization, don't serve a purpose other than to sit around and do nothing. Decompose them, since you can only decompose extras. You can also grind for items that are 5 or 4 hearts, like the Camellia Branch (Maiden Chapter 8) and Festival Atmosphere (Maiden Chapter 2).

I have literally lost thousands in the pavilion over the many months I've been playing this game. At least there are different ways to get diamonds though, Association coins only have one method of acquisition, and if you don't have enough to buy dye you need to spend Starlight coins on them which are probably the most precious resource in the game.

Putting aside the fact that most people on the Facebook page are brainlets for a second, are they right when they accuse the game of being predatory?

I don’t ever feel tempted to spend money on app games. It’s always optional and this game gives you plenty for free, no pay walls, just a few exclusive outfits - and yet, they still claim that the devs are ‘money-Hungry.’

My immediate response is always “then don’t buy it?” When people complain about things being “expensive” or “unfair” or “gambling.” Do these people ever claim any responsibility in their lives? Don’t get mad and play the victim just because they made money by taking advantage of your impulsive ass.

Love Nikki is by far one of the most generous mobages I've played in the past couple of years. While other games strongly favor whales, you actually can do well in Love Nikki without having to spend money.
Most of the outfits are craftable without needing to purchase anything and the outfits that you buy for real money come back in the store later anyways.

That zodiac pack with the godmode item where you have to keep plugging away money in the hopes of the item dropping is pretty shitty.

The game was never marketed as a roulette. The game was never sold as ‘keep throwing money in hopes of getting the item you want.’ If that’s how other ~Kawaii ugu Asian Mobage~~s are it doesn’t really make a difference. A roulette is not how this game has worked up until now.

You pay 99$ for a dragon item, you get the dragon item. You don’t want to buy diamonds, you don’t have to— you can absolutely farm and save. But this is a new development. The pavilions were always isolated and ultimately a patience game since you do get free tries.

Now we’re adding in roulettes with godmode items. That’s a line, and people are speaking out because in the past, Love Nikki’s devs have been responsive to fans.

I played Nikki World Traveller. I remember how it went. The gameplay and events were similar to love nikki until the roulettes started, and I’m sorry, whine about ~them poors whining on my facebook feed~ all you want, but roulettes just aren’t fun. The American servers closed because all elex did was roulette events and people stopped playing. Elex has already shown they’re willing to run a game into the ground with these roulettes.

Seriously, CGL doesn’t need to be the inverse reddit/Facebook. Just because they are obnoxiously loud and whiny, we don’t have to match them in being loud and whiny about how *they’re* loud and whiny.

That said, there is a lot to be said for showing some restraint. I have enough clothes now to S rank any level/stylist arena easily, so its come down to me deciding which items I really, really want for dressup purposes. Spending money to get suits or to increase your chance of getting suits is entirely optional, no matter how good those suits are. Roulettes may not be fun but neither is visiting 5 friends' homes every day for the daily reward - not every aspect of the game is going to be 100% super entertaining. Not to mention that there are only so many possible variations of events that you can have in such a simple game and if you don't like one of them you can just wait for the next one, or for any particular item you like to come into the store.

Except that not every event is occurring for the first time. The wedding event is the third (?) time it's appeared. Events in Love Nikki usually come down to roulettes, clicking something once a day or paying for more clicks, and 5-level maps, and the event maps are distinguished by minor shit like whether they cost mana, whether your score needs to be as high as possible or within a certain range, whether you're up against humans or AI, and whether there are trivia levels.

Without the roulettes and daily click events it'd just be the 5-level maps, so I don't mind the variety. The way I see it, any free attempts/clicks are just giving me free items, I'm not entitled to the other items in the first place.

The difference from then and now is Elex seems to be a lot more open to fan reactions. Look at the Ranking Suits, and the skin tones.

They didn’t wink those years back when we were tired of the roulettes and they just silently let the game die when we all stopped participating in the roulette events. It was bad decision making through and through, and by contrast the Chinese World Traveller is still going strong.

Now Elex has been interacting with players a lot more, so that’s why people have been vocal about the zodiac pack.

Having a tantrum about it like on Facebook and reddit is just childish, but reaching out to them (especially through the wallet) does seem to help.

I get the frustration over Facebook, I do. But that doesn’t mean that everything they complain about is inherently baseless. A lot— most— of it is, but every now and then there is a legitimate complaint. Brushing it off just because of idiots on Facebook is silly.

I’m one of the people who hated ranking events. I’ve been having a blast these past couple of weeks with back to back events and a bunch of new suits and I have no problem buying more diamonds for the coming hell event. I thought it was a very clever way for Elex to recoup the money they’re not going to make with ranking events while we benefit from constant activity and brand new suits downright weekly.

We have constant events, constant new suits, no ranking events, and Elex makes money to keep the game going. It is a great win-win.

I remember having a struggle with myself about whether or not I should let myself play the game, because I've had experiences before with mobile games being extremely stingy about letting you have anything remotely nice when you're not spending money. Love Nikki has its shitty moments, but I found it easy to be extremely patient with the game. I remember either ads or these threads finally convincing me to try it, and now I've been playing for almost a year without missing a single day of logging in.

So to new players who are reluctant to spend money: Patience, patience, patience. It's a useful thing. Also outfits almost never make sense and only matter in the Styling Contest or Starry Corridor.

And, if you can, absolutely join a Stylist Association when you finally can. Makes things a whole lot easier.

Same. I always go the "free" grinding route with in game purchase dress ups like this, and out of all the games I've done this with, LoveNikki has easily been the rewarding. In other games, anything even remotely decent requires inhuman amounts of grinding, and even then you can't usually get very far without entry level spending. I have noticed simpler outfits get more easily in top 5% than more complicated ones, but they need to look good overall. For example on current one I have Hair, dress, makeup, bracelet and foreground and I'm hovering in 1-10% even if I change something. Of course there's a luck factor for who you get paired with but I think the pairing is decided by not only same cloth pieces but also how many pieces you have altogether.
