>When would you consider it the "right time" to make an itabag for a character?
As soon as merch is released, assuming you're familiar with the series; you can be sure you're supporting the series this way.
See the Jojo fandom crying and screaming for the anime adaptation of the fifth part of the series; I've been prepared to throw money at any company that releases new VA merch as soon as the trademarks were filed earlier this year.
Bring me my goddamned zipper husband, DavidPro.

>Is it possible to be "too late" to make an itabag?
I don't think so, unless you're into it solely for the likes and attention online. If someone genuinely loves a FOTM series and wants to make a bag for it when it's no longer trendy, doing so when everyone else abandons their merch actually works in their favor.

The right time to make an itabag for something isn't purely based on the series time -- what really matters is how long it takes for you to fall deep enough in love to where making an itabag feels right. (or when you accumulate enough merch for it to be logical!)

The "right time" frames you're talking about are more relevant to merch prices, which is understandable.
The nice thing about anime is that jumbo-hits that will have massive character tax can be seen from a mile away, what with news sites and Twitter and Youtube critics and stuff jacking off all over them before they even air. Same with games.
"Too late" making an itabag is also not really on the mark. Merch prices for sleeper hits are a bell curve, and FOTM only goes down. YOI is basically the Beanie Babies of anime merch.

All of this goes out the window if you're not bagging for a JP/KR fandom, though.
Depending on what franchise you're bagging for, there may never be a right or wrong time, due to whatever balance you need to make between official merch, fan merch, and merch you have to make yourself.

The moment that first episode airs and you're at the peak of your hype while the bandwagon is rolling. Certainly a stupid idea to make a bag after you've been dedicated to them for months and years :)

I've used a corkboard for my pinnable items, and it actually works very well. (Not to mention so much less of a hassle.) I agree with other anons where the best time, ideally, is right as the series gains traction and starts to crank out the merch. If you come in late after the hype, you'll have a much harder time finding a lot of pieces that were initially sold out. Looking at it from a non technical standpoint, though, I feel it's best to sit on a series/character for a least a month before dedicating to creating a bag. I can't imagine anything worse than buying a huge influx of merch only to realize a week or so later that you didn't like the series/character as much as you initially thought.

>> No.9897205

>>9897188
Merch availability really depends on the popularity of the series and how much merch it churns out. Popular works often have huge auctions or sales lots going up. YOI for example is starting to go that route as bandwagonners jump ship. That method involves a lot of waiting though.

As for waiting to start a bag, it might be better to wait for the series to finish if it’s currently airing and there isn’t other source material like a manga to track how the plot goes. I got into one show, bought merch, then the last few episodes aired and soured my whole enjoyment of the series. Now I have all this shit I can’t even sell because everyone was disappointed in the ending.

Can confirm it took a year for my husbandos game to come out in English and I had no idea I would fall so deeply in love with him. In fact I had no interest in him from the trailers and I was avoiding spoilers while I waited.

But it also meant it's cost me nearly $1000 before fees and months upon months of hoping people throw his merch up to make my bag. Finally got my grail strap last week after 8 months of waiting for someone to list it.

From last thread. Those sort of even-voiced calm craft videos are my favorite. I can watch that shit for hours, even when I have no desire to make whatever it is their doing.
I have not seen any tiny bead shakers in itabags so far. I suspect that its a little too 'advanced' for most itabaggers, though it seems like something Japanese fans would very much like. They seem to be more into making very complex decorations.

>When would you consider it the "right time" to make an itabag for a character?

I feel like some shit, you have to be there for when it's LIVE to be able to make a proper bag.
For instance, I'm really into a game called Love Plus and sadly, I like the character who is the most famous due to the "Guy marries his DS" controversy. The game came out in 2009 and all the merch for her is often 3x more expensive than the other girls' merch.
Not to mention, they had pins all around Japan souvenir shops of each girl, and now I feel finding one of every pin is going to be a challenge because of how old the game is. Most of the shit readily available of Ebay disappeared as well.

I think it's more of a gamble when it's an anime because you never know what may happen or if they throw you for a loop and ruin your favorite character, but video games are nice because you can finish them quickly.

>Is it possible to be "too late" to make an itabag?

Sometimes. Some merch is literally lost to time but if it's a new franchise, you'll have to deal with price inflation.

perler bead sprites (good for video games characters, though I'd recommend using the smaller beads because if you don't get a nice even melt, they can look like crap)
rosettes
decorated strap protectors
small crocheted plushes
character faces made of felt (very cute)

Does anyone else have secret shops or sites they buy from to ensure they'll get what they want for their bags?
I have a bunch of Ebay sellers saved that likely sell stuff found at thrift stores in Japan (I'm into vintage stuff). They have normally 1000-3000 items on bids so normies aren't really willing to search through it all, especially if nothing is named, just numbered. I can get buying a knock off bag for a few reasons:

1. Sometimes there's no glitter in the window instead
2. It comes in different colors (I own the utapri backpack bootleg because it comes in black)
3. It's made of different material ( PU seems to be the most common bootleg mat)
4. The original is out of production
5. It's different enough to not be a direct copy, eg. The pinky milk swimmers clones (but PM bags are shit quality in general)

But if you can buy the legit bag then buy that. I mean, if you can't afford the base how do you expect to afford the merch. If you want a pink heart window and wego is selling theirs still then choosing a knock off to save money is what stops these companies making bags.

Blah blah bootleg discussion. This is why I miss the note about it, this is such a dead horse.

That sounds like a cool idea but practicality in some areas worry me.

You can put your merch on it and wear it, but the possibility of the merch dropping is just as much a problem as it is for bags. I just don't think I would want to surround it with PVC as it'll probably be as uncomfortable as it sounds.

And if you're feeling brave with having merch flowing free and wild there's a couple of hazards like it getting tangled in hair/wigs and also the hardware/pins catching snagging and stabbing.

It'd be a kickass display piece if you wanted to hang it on a wall or over a mirror/mannequin or something though and definitely something I'd like to see.

Ordered a little plushie to be the center piece for an Itabag I’m working on, release date been moved about 3 times (due to problems with the manufacture) Ask when they’ll ship out last weekend since May was the last “suppose” release date and was told they have all the plushies and they be shipping out early this week. Welp the week is basically over and post offices are closed now. I felt in our recent email exchange that I was being a nuisance to or annoying them. I wasn’t rude or mean to them and I even apologized for bothering them. I just wanted to know when they were planning on shipping it out, since the PayPal protection would be expiring soon. This plushie wasn’t cheap and I really wanted him as he was perfect for what I had envision for my itabag. So I decide to splurge and I also love supporting AA artists. I don’t know what to do at this point, I feel like their just stringing me on now, since the buyer protection expired and they can basically get away with it. :(

Interesting, I've thought about it but I wasn't sure if that would work since I know a lot of sellers out there just refuse any proxy but I'll try that next time! Thank you anon.
Trying my luck at US sellers as well but it's hard to find ones that aren't trying to scalp the shit out of them, it's annoying especially since they're prize figures.

More merch comes out for Ignis by a landslide so any time I find Cor stuff I cheer. I have some badges from the series and made a pin bag as I don't have enough merch for a full itabag. Lucky you got those Ignis heart badges. I had a chance to buy directly from the seller at an event recently but they didn't offer those badges and I was kinda disappointed because I did want to get them. However, I got her newest Ignis DLC strap and I really like it. How long did it take for you to find all the merch for your bag? XV itabaggable stuff is mostly fan charms and there's a ton of it!

So funny I should see an Ignis/Gladio bag because I have an acrylic strap of them I've been trying to sell and I thought it would make a perfect itabag charm. I also have an Ignis strap which hasn't gotten any love either. Heck, I've even got a coaster and could offer the coaster strap holder for it since I've got extras, but nobody is interested. I've never had a seller ask me to buy more but if they did I think I would bail on it unless it was my grail. That's just shady.

And I was wondering if some SB69 fan here would know which one I was talking about. The set appears to be really desireable at the moment, so I'm glad I bit the bullet.

I haven't, but what about white? That'd work great for Phos...or just about any HnK character.

There needs to be some kind of Facebook ita bag bingo

>unnecessary lights
>elements that don't match the character
>fan merch bag for a character with plenty of official merch
>fotm character/series
>bag that is mostly empty but listed as "finished"
>tacky bag decorations (acrylic letters, cheap plastic gems, raschel lace)
>pin bag

Shitty lettering and cheap gems aside, I feel like maybe they were trying to go for a "chains of heaven" effect with it? In which case I would have done it as a backdrop and laid it out with more merch but I think a GoB would have been better. Or maybe I'm just giving them way too much credit and there wasn't that much thought put into the design.

Yeah I don't know why the fuck people put lights in their bag. It looked fine in like 3 bags, and every single other one looks like shit with wires everywhere and the lights are too bright and you can't see shit. Lights and having the safety pins on the outside are my two biggest hates, and when I see them combined...

No, that's immediately what I assumed too, but.........maybe we are giving them too much credit, with how shoddy the rest is.

Probably weird, but does anyone else wish their character had more fan pieces?
The character I’m collecting for gas so much cute official merch and I love all the keychains and button’s I’ve collected
But I really wish she had more fan fan keychains and buttons made

I've got both. But I'll be blunt, the bootleg is so different to the original in nearly every way other than a similar looking design.

Personally I'd recommend from Japan because you can set your own prices for each item and check your shipping before having to consolidate the package.

The color seems a bit unfitting, I think wego's purple would've looked better

Thanks anon. I am proud to say my bag only hits two of these spaces (not counting free space obvs)

Anyone else want to compare their own bags and share their shame? Be honest now.
