I secretly love brand itas. I was part of the lolita community back in 2004-2005 before brands shipped to the US, Taobao did not exist, Bodyline wasn't on our radar yet as a viable option, we got burando in the west through egl_comm_sales or a fancy shopping service. Having brand was a legitimate status symbol and people treated it as such.

I remember getting SO much glee from people who would post on egl and daily_lolita with coords that featured precious burando who still looked bad or awkward. The standards were different for bad or awkward then, but the ita concept was still alive and well. I couldn't afford brand then and wore mostly bad handmade so I didn't really look any better than the ita brand-owners, but it brought teenage me SO much entertainment--that someone would spend SO much money and flaunt their status symbol SO much and still look absolutely awful.

Nowadays, it's super easy to get brand secondhand or straight from the source, and there are tons of other options to look great in lolita without breaking the bank or jumping through hoops. But still, the brand ita still never lost its charm. Maybe one day I'll start a brand ita thread.
