I'm not going to post mine, but just want to mini rant. My dream dress (Every cut/colorway of a print, actually) was popular when it came out but quickly fell out of favor, but for some reason people are still charging up to $600 for a full set of the most popular color, and expensive prices for other pieces.
The pieces don't sell. I'm the only one I've ever seen looking so rabidly for it but I don't even post it on here because i don't want to create the impression there's demand because of this. There's no secret japanese or Chinese market because the auctions just stay up for ever and then randomly disappear if I don't buy it because even I, the only person I know of looking for it, think it's overpriced.
It's been going on for years and it's really annoying

Always on the lookout for the Knight Knight Secret of Kells skirt in white. Feels weird to be desperately searching for something that's not very valuable (to the market anyway) or from a high end brand, so is probably just living forgotten in people's closets. I feel like the risk of buying from LM is greatly over exaggerated, and the risk of buying from the secondhand market in Japan underestimated. I feel like I've had similar experiences with each, with a similar ratio of accurate vs nonaccurate listings. The only real bad experience that stands out to me on LM is some of the buyers, but I can't sell on the Japanese market so there's no comparison there.

I buy a lot from Japan and only a bit from Lacemarket. I've had several inaccurate listings I bought off LM but the sellers were always willing to give me a partial refund and you can always file a paypal claim. Can't really do anything about Japanese sellers. Every time I bought from someone with all great ratings on mercari or 5.0 rating on fril I've never had any problems. But I've had issues with sellers with a <4.9 rating or more than one or two "good" ratings; items would arrive with lots of stains even though they were described as "like new" or "no noticeable flaws" or the like. This happens very rarely though; I've only had one undisclosed super stained dress (out of like 40) and even then they were very faint and unnoticeable. Yahoo auctions and mbok are more of a mixed bag.
I can also leave feedback on LM. For mercari and fril, I can't.

Granted I haven't bought A TON on LM, but the worst experiences I've had were a seller who shipped something almost 2 weeks after they said they would (I politely followed-up twice), and sellers who don't disclose they have pets and don't bother to lint-roll before shipping. As far as worst-case-scenarios go that's pretty damn tame IMO.

Most people don't want to risk a detailed negative feedback being publicly posted just to try and screw you over.

If you have to ask this question, there is a very high chance you only like it because it's popular or the other reasons you stated. Take a break from cgl, social media and the opinions of other lolitas for a while and see what really sticks with you. Then ask yourself what you really like about your "dreamdresses" and how much you actually want it. Would you still want it if it wasn't sought after?

IMO it's a waste of money to go chasing after what looks appealing on/to other people. It's easy to be swayed by good coords or hype over new prints, but trends come and go. Make wishlists, inspo boards, whatever--figure out your personal style and maybe then you can narrow down your true dream dresses.
