Anyone know at approximately what time I have to enter to be able to wait in front of the escalators for the exhibit hall? Last year I got in around 9am and squeezed through the crowd slow enough to end up at the pillar next to the escalators but there are just too many people to go through.

Have never been to Otakon but I mean it all depends on what you want and how organized/proper the venue is. I haven't been to AX (going this year hopefully). But last I remember it was pretty unorganized for alot of events. So far, just them sending out badges seems like a huge improvement. Also reading on the back of the badge, it says that 18+ panels/workshops/screenings now require wristbands prior to entry. So i'm going to guess it'll be a couble hours or less of early waiting for an event then being free for the rest of your time? (if it all goes that well). So might be alot better this time around as far as that goes. the venue is still crowded as shit so I guess that might be a given since both have generally the same attendance numbers.

Either way, that just my view of AX. someone would have to talk about Otakon.

You can take the train to Little Tokyo, there's a station right across the street from LACC. You have to transfer lines a couple times, but the actual distance isn't far and there will probably be a lot of other people doing the same thing.
Also you can just go from Pico Station and get off at 7th Street Metro Center (one stop away) there are a lot of restaurants there as well as a Target and other convenience stores.

The early entry to panels is only really useful at main events since they don't bother clearing any of the other rooms anymore due to crowd sizes and there's no consistency at all to when they start letting people into panel rooms. What >>9878548 said about press and industry also applies to exhibitors for the early vendor hall access. Other benefits like badge shipping got rolled into regular badges (a good thing) or removed entirely like being able to transfer the badge to the next year. The premier hotel block is so tiny that it's harder to get a good location than the general block.

So, the early concert tickets are absolutely a primary benefit now that they actually have concerts that are worth going to and in demand. They can't reasonably remove that from premier unless they completely overhaul everything else about the convention but it should be limited to at most 2 tickets since it's such an easy game for scalpers to play as is.

Yeah, it's 3.50 every 30 minutes, but the closest bike station to the Westin is on Grand near the Broad so you would have to walk back to your hotel either way from the station, which is like 10 minutes max. The Westin will have a shuttle service so that would free. If you want to explore DTLA at your leisure the bike would be a great option as they are quite comfortable and come with baskets.

I just texted a friend who is an AX Staffer who knows the info about these ticket sales and he just confirmed that yes, that chart is real. All the good Orchestra and VIP seats are gone. The only ones left are what you see in the pic and Loge. They will open up the Balcony area tomorrow to accommodate the overflow of those who will participate tomorrow.

Every year one of my favorite activities at Anime Expo is taking a truckload of cosplay and related photos (and subsequently dumping them in this thread), but while my Android's camera isn't the worst it's certainly not ideal for more professional quality photos and since I've got a much better paycheck now I can afford to get a camera more suited for these kind of events.

What camera should I buy? I'm pretty uneducated in specs but for a low light environment I should be looking at a 50mm f/1.4? Also I'm trying for a model that's as compact and subtle as possible; not trying for a super-high end cinderblock like I want a job at the Daily Bugle but something more medium in size if possible. Thanks in advance for any constructive advice.

Hey so the only big con I've been to before has been Otakon, and I remember that picking up badges at the door was brutal. My friend any I both quality for military badges, which are half price, but they're door pickup only.

Is it worth paying double for badges to skip the lines? What are the lines like on the first day for badge pickup usually?

Most of the major players make small 'mirrorless' system cameras that are small but capable. Sony a5100, Fuji X-A3, Olympus Pen, Canon EOS M are a few basic ones you could look at. Higher end cameras in the same product lines exist too if that's what you want but they grow in size and expense and the upgrades are more in terms of quality of life for enthusiasts than image quality. Stuff like more physical controls, faster processing speeds, and eye-level viewfinders.

With the exception of the very top end stuff these smaller cameras use smaller sensors so a 50mm f1.4 would be cumbersome to use for cosplay pictures because the angle of view will be fairly narrow. You'd need to stand more than 10 feet away to get full body images of even shorter folks. Depending on which system you went with something like the Sigma 30mm 1.4, Panasonic 20 1.7 (very compact), or Fujinon 23mm f2 would be easier to use in crowded hallways.


If you want even smaller there's the Fuji X100 or the Ricoh GR which are just as good as anything else here image quality wise but less flexible. They'd be great cameras for walking around the con in the same way as you'd use a smartphone camera.
