Seeing this insta story from @livlotte, she had a photoshoot for KERA apparently? Does anyone know if she got hired or how did she get this opportunity? She also modeled for Tulle and I'm just really curious how she meets all these people who are in charge/gets invited. Is it a good idea to mark down packages or mark them as gifts for EU lolitas as a lacemarket seller? I'm in the US and I'd like to help with their custom charges, but would it be giving me the short end of the stick as a seller or is it generally okay?

It's okay. It's illegal but it's not like you will get in trouble for it. Worst case scenario, the custom tax people get suspicious and open the package, but that usually only happens when it's obviously from a shop (Ss sometimes put stickers on it and stuff). I think 90% of EU lolitas won't buy from you if you don't mark down.

I just feel like i'm "too sweet" for my age (21) nowadays gulls. Whenever I put on a cute, frilly, pastel outfit i feel ridiculous even though i still love that whole aesthetic.
Also my girlfriend is goth and she said she disliked it and i wasnt her type at all at first (due to how pink i was) but now think it's adorable and that i'm adorable yet i just feel like i'm too pink, too cutesy, too "out of place"...and that i look like some overly girly airhead trying hard to stay young.
Idk anymore gulls. It used to bring me so much joy but now i'm just sad

Age is bullshit when it comes to fashion, I know quite a few 30-somethings who rock their sweet, pink AP.
If you, personally, regardless of your age, don't feel comfortable in pink anymore then that's okay and it's nothing to stress over.
You can try coordinating your pieces in new ways that are more toned down and "mature", switch over to classic-sweet, or try another substyle that feels more comfortable for you to wear instead.
This article might help you a bit: http://www.fyeahlolita.com/2010/01/dressing-your-age-in-lolita.html
Just remember that you're a baby in terms of age of participation in lolita, and what matters is your personal feeling when wearing the fashion, not your biological age.

You’re at a transitional age, anon. Everyone hypes up being a teenager/college-aged so much that by the time you reach the tail end it feels like your time to be young is over (when it obviously isn’t). This too will pass, even if it takes a few years. For now, I feel like experimenting with more classic-sweet styles might help you feel more at-home with your current wardrobe. Just take care of your skin/hair/body and by the time you feel ready to branch out again no one will bat an eye.

Marking down a packet as a gift is a nice gesture but doesn’t work at all. If it’s above the 40€ we still need to pay customs. But I have to say that even the ones below 40€ but above €22 that were marked as a gift, still got charged with customs. Our customs doesn’t fall for the gift trick.
Declaring a lower value is something I always appreciate, but buyers can definitly screw you with this! As when it gets losts you can only get the declared value back(if you use insured shipping), while the buyer can just file a paypal claim and get everything back on your costs. It is also illegal, but to be honest the customs really doesn’t know the value of a Lolita dress. And as long as there is no price tag or something like that inside, they will also never find out. They will probably think it’s a costume, and believe a value of $20. But yeah, values of like one cent will most likely get you caught.

From what I gathered following Liv on Facebook and Instagram:
First of all Kera asked for writers on their website and anyone could apply and I don't think they rejected anyone. Liv is just one of those who constantly write and didn't drop out after one article. I don't think they even get money for it.

Then there was an event where you could have taken a snap of your outfit and fill out a questionnaire. She went there and met Mariko Suzuki there, and afterwards Mariko asked her to model for Tulle.

I guess she got the Kera gig because of that photoshoot. Or maybe because she writes for them.

I think while she doesn't look like a model, she is still pretty and fulfills the typical “european“ look that the japanese like so much

You have to read the policy of the postal company you use. Many of them sell "worldwide insurance" to you, but only if the parcel is delivered by the same postal company. E.g. if you send a parcel with Royal Mail, but it's delivered by PostNL, you are not covered by Royal Mail's insurance. They may also ask for picture proof of the packaging, or they will say you probably didn't package it well enough. Depending on the postal company, they may not give a fuck about declared value or original value (invoice/receipt) and they will just refund you what they think is the appropriate amount for a dress. It really doesn't matter if you marked the parcel down in most cases.

If you look at enough Japanese magazines you'll see that the white models they use are often rather plain by overseas standards, and some are downright derpy looking, but to Japanese people they seem pretty or exotic looking and have desirable features like big eyes and fair skin. Innocent World's model-san was pretty average looking but I can see how a Japanese audience would think she looked doll-like because of her Caucasian features and blonde hair.
It's not a stretch to think that Kera would ask a reasonably cute European girl who already writes for them to do some modeling as well.

I always figure that when you are young and in your teens it's more accepted when you like and try more unusual things because it's experimenting and kids will be kids. Ultimately people expect you will settle down into "adult" tastes. When people see an adult in it they wonder why the person didn't get over it and view them as still immature.

>> No.9877882 [DELETED]

You will never "grow into" fucking sweet or OTT sweet because it's not attached to an age. You're the one attaching stuff like candy or cats to being underage or "under 25". You thinking it's inappropriate is you putting your own limits on what you can wear. If someone is like you, I think they should honestly never get into sweet and not critique it either. Just wear something so classic you could be 80 in it and no one would bat an eye since you're attaching age to clothing that much. Then you'd never "be too old' for it.

>> No.9877904

>>9877830
That's sort of true, except that other teens will pick on you relentlessly for standing out in any way, and lolita is special in the way that you may still hear "aren't you too old for this?" even when in your teens, so you're still not "safe" from judgment. Might be the typical girly elements that do this, since other alt fashion styles tend to fly under many adults' radar when worn by teenagers.
Which is why the best conclusion to make is to just do what makes you happy (lifestyle/career permitting) because people are going to judge you regardless.

Pretty easy, she just went for all the opportunities she could get and got noticed. She applied for modelling for UtS and DMC, Mariko was at UtS and must have noticed her. Then she applied for the Kera writers thing and was chosen as well. Then she went to Japan and met Mariko again at an event, she noticed her and asked her for Tulle. Liv writes quite a few Kera posts, Kera probably apreciated that, knows that she is in Japan and ask her for the photoshoot, so she could write about that.
It’s the typical route, everyone that has a cute face amd the right meassurements can do it. I am pretty sure that the Atelier Pierrot model also roled into it by participating in all kinds of events and getting noticed that way.

When it comes to good summer fabrics, why haven't any brands (Japanese or indie) jumped on the linen trend yet? It's so comfy, durable, and actually heat-appropriate.

Maybe this is my ignorance speaking but if all linen looks like this, it's possible brands avoid it because it doesn't look luxurious. Have you ever tried English tea? The milk in that can make it taste much nicer.
It’s all about finding the right tea for you.
You can have regular English tea, green, herbal, etc. And some teas are flavoured with fruits and things which can help with reducing your sugar intake. You can also try adding honey, lemon, mint etc to make it taste nice. Grab a load of testers from your local tea shop or bulk buy a loaf of single sachets and experiment at home to find the right one for you.
Good luck!

the ties are not the issue, it's the placement of the waist elastic. boobs come in different shapes but we can all agree they are never shaped like traffic cones or knocked-over beer cans. the fuller the bust the longer the bodice you need because there's a chance the high waist won't even clear your bust. busty lolitas need enough bodice to show the distinction between bust and real waist most of the time for maximum flattery. no bra in the world can force your breast tissue outward on the z axis and squash it on the y.

Hmm... English tea with milk sounds nicer than the tea I was drinking.
I don't really have a high sugar intake, I mostly eat fruits rather than candies. It was just that one time where I added a ton of sugar to tea just to see how it would effect the taste.

I'll try taste testing and experimenting with different types of tea and experimenting with honey, lemon, etc.

I remember liking lemon tea than my granma would make when I was younger, so I guess I'll try adding lemon to my tea.

My current boyfriend is sort of chubby and struggles with his weight but he never made me feel like that. He's made me feel wanted, and though a lot of people in my field make fun of my specialty he always reminds me how important it is. Lolita is a little different but I think he's always supportive there too, even if it's something he doesn't necessarily finds aesthetically pleasing.

We've had this conversation a lot on cgl but basically my theories are this

>Most lolitas have nerdy interests and seek partners with similar interests
Most geek dudes aren't exactly model of the year material. Most women involved in lolita are also into anime, cosplay, comics, fantasy or sci-fi and are therefore going to seek out partners with those interests.

>Lolita fashion isn't attractive to normie men.
Lolita fashion is going to scare away most normie men. I've dated men that are more normie, and I just accept the fact that I probably won't wear lolita around them or on dates. I keep that part of my life separate, because it is attention-grabbing and most dudes aren't into that. I wear the clothes on my own time. Granted, I wear sweet lolita. Someone who wears classic or gothic may have better luck finding an attractive normie boyfriend.

>Lolita fashion attracts people with subversive tastes.
Many girls within the community identify as feminists, or just have a different worldview in general. They might have different values they look for in a partner rather than just looks.

There are still lolitas with conventionally attractive boyfriends. maximumclaire and lolitacharm come to mind.

Fame hungry ita broadcasting an image of being the center of the world when in actuality she's a nobody, at most she's infamous in the lolita community as the "random tranny" who has terrible taste and once interrupted a fashion show at a con and paraded that as her greatest achievement. It was a pic of an overweight person in a lolita dress and then 'art' that they had drawn, as well as a few pics of them in a maid dress they wore with diapers? I think. The pics weren't that clear.

The lolita pic was fine, and the maid dress, there's no arguing against that. I guess the art was iffy, but iirc there's a ton of lolita and diaper art out there and dragging it up to the surface is asking for attention from the wrong people.
