sorry for blog post, but I recently got pic related. While it was still on a hanger, I unzipped it, but the zipper had so much trouble getting down past the waist seams that I had to pull much harder than I was comfortable with. It was even harder pulling the zipper back up.

I am several cm under the minimum bust measurement, but I couldn't even get the zipper past the waist seams when it was on. I gave up until today, and tried to zip and unzip it while it was still hanging up to loosen it up, when I noticed that a few of the side seams had loosened up to the point that a few of the gathers in the skirt closest to the zipper had loosened as well.

I can now zip and unzip the dress much more easily, on a hanger and worn, but I'm still kind of upset that it took loosening the side seams of a brand new dress to fit someone well under the minimum measurements.

Is this normal for some dresses? And do I need to sew/repair anything to keep more threads from unraveling?

Go to a trusted tailor for advice anon. From what I can see, with my moderately experienced eyes, it looks like the zipper was sewn into the seam with the fabric too close to the zipper teeth. This means that the zipper didn't have enough space to pass through the opening as fabric was blocking it's way. The result of moving the zip up and down is the stretched thread you can see as loose.

The abrasion of the zipper passing over the thread will eventually cause the stitching to break, but the good news is it won't cause any structural damage if it does and the zip isn't faulty. This is stitching error, I would suggest going to a professional to re-insert the zip which will fix the problem, and is inexpensive relative to the worth of the dress.

As for the gathering thread, it looks like one of the "top threads" of the overlocking has been pulled, probably by the zipper. This is not structurally integral, so if you were worried about the gather on the skirt falling off you need not be. The tail of the thread will just need to be secured to stop the overlocking from slowly unraveling, exposing the raw edge of the fabric and risking fraying.

These sort of things sometimes happen through no fault of anyone really. It just slipped through quality control. If you bought the dress new from Baby I would suggest politely informing them of the stitching error, as if no-one mentions it, the production manager will be under the impression that production is running smoothly.

Thank you so, so much, anon; this was so extremely helpful and also a relief to hear.

Scouring mercari I've found dresses for ¥5,000 and less in great condition, and sometimes you can also ask your ss to suggest a lower price to sellers and they'll accept so you can get a better deal.
WW does have good deals sometimes but I find that their pieces are often overpriced, especially for their condition; might be a personal preference thing but I'm not too comfy paying ¥8,000+ for a dress with visible flaws.

I just got one of my dream dresses off wunderwelt for about ¥7000, and its going for that price or more on auction sites. but the dress from wunderwelt is practically perfect, id rather pay a few dollars more for the convenience of clear photos of the item desu

>> No.9860267

>>9860254
I agree with this anon. I find WW to be over priced. It is cheaper than the western second hand market but a pinch more expensive than CC. prices don't really drop much below 8,000 yen even when the dress is 12+ years old with damages, wrinkles and missing parts. Unless they are on sale at which point it is probably an unpopular item to boot.

I don't think I will ever buy bags off WW as they are often just too expensive for the damages, when I can find the same bag in a similar or cheaper condition with less damage. I have spent a lot of money at WW, but I've never felt like I've gotten a bargain when the item arrives in the post.

Frill on the other hand, I have gotten heaps of great bargains from sellers who have items that are in great condition but sell cheaply because they are just closet clearing.

If you are patient you can get some really great pieces off Japanese secondhand sales sites.

Wunderwelt sells a lot of clothes in bad condition without properly mentioning it. They list semi-rare items or items that were popular 5-10 years ago for beyond of what they are worth these days. On the other hand they sell a lot of cheap basics, but those are usually out of style clothes that nobody wears anymore, so the are sitting for months and months on their page until they finally do a discount for 1000 yen. And if you compare closetchild to wunderwelt pricing you will see that closetchild on average is 1000-2000 yen cheaper for cheaper for wardrobe fillers and main pieces can be even more cheap on CC compared to WW.

While sending a dress out for shipment the other day I thought about how convenient it would be if we could vacuum pack clothes for shipment. I did some googling to see if this was a thing and found a post by a seller on eBay who apparently saves a lot of money by doing this, though though they use a foodsaver machine. Their pics:

It also depends on what you wear. I wear a lot of oldschool and plain older releases so I'm looking for those out of style clothes >>9860327 mentioned - in my case, WW is a great option because I can pick up skirts for 4000 yen and older blouses for reasonable prices too. Brightlele is pretty much my go-to at the moment. The wig caps are a bit on the smaller side but I find they're alright if you stretch them out a bit and just don't use the elastics to tighten them (in fact I just cut them off bc fat american head). I think they're very nice for the price point with a pretty color selection, interesting + cute styles, and they look pretty realistic. Not too shiny, shiny enough to look like freshly washed hair. You can buy them from their Rakuten shop or from Belladonna.

I miss when Lockshop had really nice wigs. I have two that I got from them in either late 2014 or early 2015 and they're really nice, some of my best wigs. Bought a style from them in 2016 and it was shit - just thin and shiny. Not worth the price I paid even on discount from Lolita Collective.

I wear lolita every Sunday regardless of what I'm doing that day anyway. There are hundreds of people in the Dutch comm, and a while ago, the mods deleted non-lolitas. So all those people in the group are lolitas but they don't go to meets. I even know two lolitas who have never been in the facebook group. They don't need a special occasion to dress up. So when you don't show audiences the truth, they don't understand Humbert is supposed to be an unreliable narrator, even less so because pop culture generally marketed Lolita as a "forbidden romance".

Or because Humbert's lies conveniently play into these people's kinks so they don't give a shit. In all honesty, they wouldn't be the first to romanticize it.

This isn’t really true. Pretty much anyone who seemed to be interested in the fashion (and wasn’t an obvious perv) got to stay and they mostly cleared out dead accounts or accounts from people who only joined because did a school report on alternative fashion or whatever. There are still a lot of “lolita at heart” people, newbies who are still saving up for their first dress and cosplayers who have one Taobao dress to wear to Elfia with their Restyle horns and cosplay wig in the comm. Nothing against these people but I wouldn’t take the group numbers as an accurate indication of how many truly active lolitas there are in our country. It would be interesting to do a poll, actually.

Also many of the most active members in our comm don’t post to COF often if at all. Most of us just stick to IG.

Anyone else ever feel like they're stuck in a rut with their wardrobe?

I keep doing wardrobe clearouts to buy new stuff that I think I want, but then when I look in I always go back to the same few dresses. I end up barely wearing the new stuff, so I do a wardrobe clearout to get stuff I think I'd want instead, rinse and repeat.

I think I have a problem really figuring out what I like and sticking to it. I occasionally impulse buy a dress or other piece that I've never even seen before, and then end up never wearing it and sell it.

Sorry for rant, I guess. I just get so jealous of people who have gorgeous, cohesive wardrobes, I just feel like I can't commit to a theme or even a dream dress list. I've only seen the film with Jeremy Irons in, and I guess it is easy to romanticise because it is rather beautiful and doesn't really depict the rape as insidious. Even when Lolita is in turmoil due to her mothers death and, y'know, being preyed on and being driven around half of america, it kind of shows her as a petulant child having a strop rather than anything realistic (but then I guess how are you supposed to interpret an unreliable narrator). Humbert is meant to be good looking (or at least considers himself good looking) and a lot of people have a hard time equating that an attractive person can be heinously depraved, so they see the film (or read the book and get taken in by the romantic language) and think that it's the ~forbidden romance~ trope you mentioned.

10 bucks says that if humbert was portrayed by someone unattractive, it would be way less romanticised.

I took the new Space Lollipop JSK as an example with today's exchange rate

price in Japan = 27.864 Yen
USA = 284 $ = 31.021 Yen = 11% mark up
Paris = 310 € = 41.248 Yen = 48% mark up

Noone can tell me that the tax and customs are so much more expensice that they have to sell the dresses for such a mark up.

Idk but in my country it's 12% VAT and iirc it's the same in all EU and on top of that 14% custom fees for clothes valued over 150€. Then if rent, shipping, domain fees and salaries are added it's not that much extra anymore. And desu it's not that much cheaper to get it from AP Japan because you will need to pay for forwarding, shipping and custom fees and tax anyway.

That should be fine

Yes, I do get that. But if the importing of the clothing potentially costs (I'm not familiar with the custom fees of France) 12%+14% of the what ever price they get the dress from AP Japan that's roughly 36% of the mark up alone which explains the difference between Paris and USA. I'm fine with paying similar price as in AP Japan because I still get it a lot easier from AP Paris. And their sales have generally been worth it atleast for me.

Shopping Service is roughly 5% + 4% Paypal fees + around 20€ more shipping than if I would pay from Paris. Of course you have to mark down the package so you don't have to pay tax+customs (yes it depends what country+city you live but when I order through Japonica Market and mark down my package, I have 99,99% guarantee that my package slips through customs). Then it IS cheaper to buy from Japan than from Paris.

The AP Paris store DOES have its advantages but I still find it overpriced (unless someone can explain me a good reason why it's not).

Just going to mention that marking down packages is illegal.

I can see your viewpoint that it's easy to do and get away with, but AP Paris is a business. They can't just go around breaking the laws because they feel like it, or because you want them to break the law for you. So they simply do not have the option to chose not to pay customs charges.

If it's cheaper for you to buy from Japan and get your SS to lie on the customs forms, then just do it.
That's a different thing from saying that AP Paris is somehow overcharging you, when the extra money is going towards paying for customs charges that they don't have the choice to not pay.

Basically ap is just a franchise with independent owners and I'm not sure if you know anything about franchises but it can be expensive not only are they probably paying for the right to sell ap (yes that is a thing) they are paying for the dresses and the shipping to get them into the country plus any customs fees then they have to pay for the stores rent plus they must pay there employees and they probably have to buy the cute bags that everything goes in and it's not like ap has tons and tons of products in there store so in between actual dress releases they probably don't sell much so in the end yea the mark up sucks but it keeps the store open

>>9863691
This is a rough estimate but I didn't find the exact percents for French customs but VAT is 18,5% and custom fees 5,5-17%, 5,5% being necessities so 14% would be realistic. So let's pretend both AP Paris and AP USA keep the difference between the price they paid of the dress and the price they sell it for. AP USA has a total 11% mark up, AP Paris 48%. The taxes will be roughly 32,5% of the mark up alone. That's only 16% other mark up left, idk about import fees in USA and we don't know if there is a difference in shipping so I can't take those into account so we don't know how much of the 11% and 16% goes towards those things. However, the rent is definitely one factor as you said. Another would be the fact that it's a lot more costly to have a employee in Europe than it is in USA and besides the custom fees I believe it's the biggest factor in this. Again, not sure about France but in my country the employee costs about double their salary to employer. Europe just is more costly all over, it's a fact. Anyway, it's pretty hard to be sure about where the money actually goes but I don't believe AP Paris is overcharging or making any more profit than AP USA.

True, but there's some obvious and visible changes, such as starting up an FB and using polls to ask what customers really wanted. And listing real measurements, which like I said is the biggest deal for me.

Tamaqro might not be micromanaging the new Moitie, but I think these are all signs that after the buyout Tamaqro did at least shift some things around at the top management level. And just before the ownership change was announced some anon said Moitie was looking for a new designer as well, so it's possible nothing of old Moitie remains except Mana. I'm not making the mistake of equating new Moitie as Wunderwelt Gothic with Mana mascot, but there has been some visible changes, it's not quite same old business as usual for the brand.

So far I'm liking the new management -- they asked what we wanted, and they provided real measurements. Sleeping Garden was weird, but neo gothic arch did sell out in some cuts and colours, so the decision isn't as arbitrary as anons make it out to be. Now we just need to wait for a new release to see if their new designers can maintain the old Moitie style that we've loved from old Moitie.
