This will be my 18th Fanime and I am super pumped for this year. Going to the Joe Hishashi symphony on Friday. That is going to be amazing, I can't believe a composer for Ghibli is going to be putting on a show here.

I never got the Fanimecon hate, sure the convention has had it's problems, but outside of line issues, which a lot of cons have, I have never heard much being truly bad about it. I don't doubt shitty things have happened to people, but I have never had an issue.

I agree, it is all a matter of perspective. Artist alley isn't perfect, but it is never empty and always busy. Some things I really love about the Con are it being 24 hours, the swap meets on Thursday and Friday (great way to find old merchandise for cheap), The panels are usually pretty great, Cosplays each year never fail to amaze me, and most of all, I just love being surrounded by the community for a weekend. Say what you will about the fandom's quirks, but most people end up being pretty cool.

Definitely swing by swap meet this year. It is a great way to find things you may not have seen for years or just get some nice, cheap swag. It is always something I look forward to every year. also a good way to kill time on Thursday if you get to the con by then.

Gonna have to hotel in DoubleTree for the first time. This is the first year where I had to book a hotel for myself so I had no idea what I was doing. How late do shuttle buses go? Would it cost me a lot if I just drove from the hotel to Fanime at night if I wanted to hang out?

Shuttles run all night, just more spaced out later in the night/earlier in the morning. Driving would cost a decent amount depending on where you park but it's not a far drive.

Lots of Mexican within blocks! Fairmount had pricey but nice restaurants. You can catch the light rail and take it two stops north to San Pedro Market, lots of drinks and eats there as well. Cafe Stritch is a local favorite. And South First Street has a few more options.

Depends on what they want to do. First floor and outside is open and that's where you'll find the majority of people hanging out. They do a badge check when you go to the second floor so your group can just cycle in your friend easily. After you get on the second floor there aren't more checks but maybe random staff might ask you
