now that I looked at cosplayers from around the community, it was around 2012 when cosplayers started to take cosplaying more seriously and didn't do it for "fun"

I personally struggle to find anybody at a con who takes ‘professional cosplay’ seriously enough to be a prick. Vast majority of people I find are fun and just enjoy playing dress up. I wasn’t around in 2012 but could the issue be a bit overblown?

Yeah the issue is overblown in my opinion, but I do like decent pictures. Casual photoshoots can be fun, but I'd still like to see pictures that at least show some effort from the photographer. Not just snaps that you'd make with your friends basically. Otherwise you might as well just call it a hangout instead of a photoshoot.
