I've somehow never bought a sports bra in my life but keep popping a button on a blouse, so time to finally get one.

How do you even determine what size to get? I normally buy size small American clothes but that obviously won't work with a sports bra. Do I just try to match my cup size as far as what's comfortable and otherwise ignore the "size"? I normally wear 32DDD or 30DD, should I just buy one of those fancy sized ones you can get at Dillards/Nordstrom or are they not ideal for decreasing the bust?

>> No.9843736

>>9843719
Another 32ddd friend here, look at high-impact or compression bras. Just a normal size medium usually works fine for me for daily wear, though I have a few smaller sizes if I'm trying to go flat. No need to go for fancy sizing for a sports bra since they're all elastic.

Would a dark red shade of lipstick work well with this character? Also, she's wearing a veil, how do i make it stay on like that?

>> No.9843866

>>9843749
I think red lipstick would look good. If you're that pale, it should help keep you from looking washed out and tie the eyes together with your lips.

I'd sew in small combs to the veil where they can be hidden. I'd do one under the corsage at least, and then on the other side in the same place if you could hide it well enough.

What do people in complex cosplays actually DO at conventions?

Like, when I go to a con my cosplay doesn't limit my visibility, mobility, ability to handle/buy things, or clarity of speech. The most complex things I've worn are sunglasses or gloves.
But I occasionally see people with helmets/masks that cover their whole head, gauntlets that cover their fingers, and so forth. Like, what do you DO all day at a convention like that, when you can't engage with most of the con stuff? Do you just walk the floor all day long? Do they only wear the full getup for part of the time?

Reposting what I stuck in a saging dead thread:

Is it possible to get cute shoes in hellishly wide sizing? I'm a 7.5-8, 4E Wide. I normally shop in specialty stores where I am limited to bland dress shoes, white or black tennis shoes, and ugly sandals. Online stores that I've found so far mostly offer the same.

Specifically I really want cute stuff for decora

Most times people in cosplays as complex as that are just going for show/comps. Most people in the cosplay community that I’m in that do really intricate cosplays will do one day in costume just to walk the con floor and get pictures with people, then either go in a not so restrictive cosplay or just not cosplay at all the next day to just enjoy the con

>> No.9843963

>>9843957
You hit the nail on the head, they only wear the costume for a little while. Walk around, show off their craftsmanship, do a photoshoot, maybe the cosplay contest, maybe go to a big in-character panel like the dating game. And then wear civvies or a more casual cosplay to do other con things.

This is probably going to be one of the dumbest questions asked on here to date, but here goes nothing!

Recently I've really wanted to get into lolita, but I'm kinda confused on where to start? I've been looking at Lolibrary a little bit, but where is the best places to find stuff that I like and get more familiar with the fashion? I've been checking out a few things in the sticky too, like Bodyline and even a little bit of Taobao. I've wanted to maybe purchase something soon, but I'm not even sure if the fashion would look good on me or not.

Again, sorry if this is a really stupid question and if I'm asking to be spoonfed.

>> No.9848139

>>9848106
It is a bit spoonfeed-y, but I can understand that you're unsure where to look for genuinely good information. I'm unsure exactly where you are in knowing about the fashion, so two good places to learn the basics are fyeahlolita (it's own website) and thelolitaguidebook (on Tumblr). I wouldn't say either cover everything 100% and of course both have the biases of their creators but together they should cover most of the basics of the fashion.

Then, be sure to take your measurements. They're extremely key to your experience with the fashion. You don't want to buy things that are too big or too small and you need to be honest to yourself about your sizing. This will also potentially limit you. If you're 96cm bust, 72cm waist, then I'm sorry to say you'll never fit Mary Magdalene. Same reverse story almost if you're a very, very small size and wanting to wear some modern AP which is getting bigger and bigger these days - though of course taking stuff in is a lot easier than letting out. Height also plays a factor because these clothes are often made for smaller asian bodies. Shoulder width can be an issue for lots of girls. Though personally I'm jelly of tall lolitas as a shorter girl, their legs can be to die for.

Not saying this to dissuade you from whatever style you like! It's just something you have to acknowledge.

Then instead of Bodyline or Taobao I'd start with secondhand brand. Lacemarket for if you want an easy english experience, though Wunderwelt and Closet Child also have very decent english staff and website translations. Once you get some more experience with the fashion I'd then start looking into Taobao and secondhand Japanese sites like Mercari and Fril, when you can tell quality and condition better.

Keep an eye on brand sales as well. My first purchases in the fashion years ago were two items from EGL Comm Sales (pretty dead now), two things on Lacemarket, then some socks and accessories from an Innocent World sale.

See if you can find some kind lolitas to help you. Have you found anything you like? Maybe someone can help you identify what styles you like and go from there. For durable full coverage paint you want cream/grease paint (same product, people just shy away from the term grease paint.) Or you could equally go with alt fashion to catch things like (western)goth, punk retro as well, to maximise your appeal to people other than Lolita.

For Lolita, EGL or egl fashion is the term used when girls want to avoid the word lolita (it actually only refers to mmm Lolita, if we're being pedantic/technical). The other terms are alice kei and lo maiden, but both of these aren't very widely used.

Hi! Circle skirt pattern drafting question.

I’ll be making pic related and I’m having a hard time conceptualizing how to make the skirt? Advice I heard was using a circle skirt pattern and combining two or more circle skirts. (Will be using a hoop skirt and horse hairs braid). I’m just having a hard time understanding that? So for a standard circle skirt, the inner circle is roughly your waist right? So if I combine multiple circles together, won’t it warp it? I know that I’ll end up gathering it, but won’t it warp the outer edge? How would I adjust the measurements for each skirt? I learn to sew as I make my cosplay so I’m sorry if my question is strange.

>> No.9849595

I've been working on fitting a body suit. For some reason the invisible zipper I used down the center back has started to warp. It looks like a bunch of bumps. It wasn't doing this before so i'm a bit confused as to what could be wrong. I'm using the cosplay fabrics matte stretch leather if that makes a difference.

>> No.9849613

>>9849448
As this is falling in multiple large pleats, and is pleated to the waist, I would not advise a circle skirt. Circle skirts have a fall that starts close to the body and falls in softer waves. This looks more like your standard gown pattern, where the pieces are sort of wedge shaped, though you will need to modify it for larger pleats.

Regarding the outer hem, dress patterns rarely make a good hem out of the bag. It’s largely dependent on the weave of your fabric and your posture. You want to make the skirt with extra fabric at the bottom and once it is completed and fitted on your body, and you have any hoops skirts/petticoats/shapewear on and in place, pin the hem while it is being worn. The bottom hem will be one of your last steps in making a garment. I strongly strongly strongly suggest a second person to assist you with pinning the hem.

>> No.9849821

>>9849613
Thanks! I’ll go back to the drawing board with the style of the skirt, but what you said about the hem is really helping to at least imagine how it might work

Wanted to come back and say thanks to all you guys for the advice!

Turns out it was a bit more difficult to find one than I thought - I guess I should have mentioned I'd need it to be nude because the two blouses I have issues with are off white and I'm a bit fan of skirts and daily lolita looks. Turns out nude sports bras are kind of hard to come by IRL, huh. I also tried the shapewear idea, but nothing I tried on seemed to do anything or were very hard to get on if they were the kind with shorts (maybe I was trying the wrong sizes...).

Other than ordering online, the only nude ones I could find were expensive underwired ones from Dillards. I bought two from Wacoal in 32DDD and might return one or both as they were $68 each, yikes. I’ve never tried to purposefully reduce my chest before though so I’m unsure if they’re doing the job. Both are very nice and don't cause monoboob but haven’t perfectly fixed the button pop/gap issues - they’ll lay fine and flat as long as I don’t move around too much, but it can still looked strained with some arm movement if that makes sense. Also helps a lot with IW bodice boobloaf but doesn't seem like significant reduction. Is that the level it should be at with just a sports bra and not a binder, just a bit less rather than a more noticable difference? Or should I be buying a smaller nonfancy sports bra to compress more?

If you guys have an online nude one you like I’m all ears! I didn’t realize it wouldn’t be something I could find and try on in a store.

(shape-wear anon here)so Victoria's Secret surprisingly sells good sports bras that reduce a bit without boobloafing. They'd be good for a coord but i don't like them that much for working out because they don't do shit for impact. I use one on occasion for things like this when I need to reduce because I'm trying to fit into a nice blouse or smaller shirt. That one doesn't come in plain nude (I'm too pale for nude colors) but they have other bras that do and are compressing which I've tried on. (I just don't like front zip work out bras) That's the Knockout one on their website that comes in DD & DDD. Again, I don't own it but I wasn't looking to buy just a bra I wanted something my boobs wouldn't jiggle and annoy me in. Outside of that I recommend looking at British shops if you can, they have a lot of 'bigger' sizes and they're the only place I can find that has cute, comfortable, and affordable bras. I know they sell shape wear and the like so I would try them or similar shops. Good luck!!!! If you have any success let us know!! :)

They chose to word it in the most angry “only I am allowed to have these proportions so that I can continue to feel special” way, but if they’re struggling with shapewear, it is fair to say that they might want to revisit their bra sizing and go up in the band to hit a level that has more generous cups. Cups are scaled to the band size, so a 32DD has smaller cups than a 34DD. Sticking with that Tiny band size might have them cramming their tits into the same cup that would be used for a C in a bigger band size.

Lolitas are very adamant about lolita being a fashion and not a costume. It looks like an interesting concept to apply to lolita standards, but lolitas are not going to view lolita inspired character adaptions as lolita fashion any more than Vivienne Westwood inspired character adaptions would be considered Vivienne Westwood fashion.

Please respect their spaces at conventions and do not wear your cosplay to lolita meet-ups or tea parties or the like. Doing so reduces them to props to support the visuals of your cosplay.

You're thinking of the skirt/blouse set. That's the OP which did come with bloomers and they're also super short but necessary (pic related is not showing the matching bloomers).

I have it and it is basically shirt; it's not so short that you'll see your ass, the person here seems to be posing in a way that pulls it up. You do have to watch your movements or else it will show some butt, though.

I'd say newer cutsews are more forgiving than older ones but it honestly varies. I have a cutsew t-shirt from 2015 that's pretty tight on my 85 cm bust, and a cutsew t-shirt from 2013 that could definitely stretch up past 90 cm. I'd say most pre-2012 properly fits <88 cm and most post-2012 can easily go past 90 cm but there are exceptions for both.

Your questions are very broad and difficult to answer because the answers depend on a lot of factors.
>Are they worth it?
Depends on the con and personal experience; some cons are better than others, and sometimes people don't enjoy themselves for XYZ reasons even if the con is amazing. You gotta go yourself and see.
>What is there to do?
Again, depends on the con because each one is different. Usually there are artist alleys where people sell their own creations, other stalls that sell official (or bootleg) merch, panels about various subjects, sometimes there are meet and greets or other events with voice actors or bands or other "celebrities" within the hobby...
Look up the local con that you want to attend and see what they have in store.
>How much does it cost to have fun?
Again, depends on the con. The bigger, more established ones tend to be more expensive.
>Can you even have fun if you're alone?
Depends on yourself more than anything. Are you social? Friendly? Do you make friends easily? Do you not mind being alone? Only you can answer these, really.

Fur collars are less versatile than fabric collars imo because they're very weather-specific, but I'd stick it over a bolero or cardigan if I were you. For extra comfort (so you don't layer one giant collar on top of another one), forgo the blouse underneath said bolero/cardigan, or wear a collar-less blouse. Wear it with any coord that has white in it, or in an otherwise all black coord if you like the dramatic look that creates; I'm a slut for white collared black coords though so maybe that's just me.

I don't really know where else to ask this, so I figured here would be suitable.

So my gf's bday is coming up in a little over a month now, I plan on making her a giraffe plush hat (pic related is what I'm trying to achieve, except as a giraffe).
I already got the general idea of how to do it, and I'm in the process of sketching out a template. I have a casting of her head so I will be able to make the hat fit perfectly. A little bit of stuffing for the muzzle and I would just need to make ears, antlers, and some eyelids for the eyes.

Problem I'm running into though is trying to find fabric. I'm looking for something super soft; kind of like the fabric they use for blanket throws. The inside lining will just be white, but I need the outer to be a giraffe print for obvious reasons.

Tried looking around online, couldn't find any suitable giraffe print fabric. Does anyone know where I could find high quality soft animal print fabric? Is there a place I could look to find plushie making materials?

I guess while I'm at it, where could I find plushie eyes?

I'm the one who wrote that previous summary for another in this thread. Honestly we can't just give you broad recommendations - we have no idea what style you like, your measurements, etc. And that's a bit too spoonfeed-y even for this thread, lolita is just too broad of a fashion. Look at Lolibrary and Closet of Frills on Facebook, browse for hours, find what you like.

If you get items you're unsure how to coord in the future and want to make sure you're putting together a good outfit there's always the Outfit/Coord Help Thread. Only thing I can say since I'm 5'3" also is that you'll fit most things just fine length wise so no need to worry about things like Meta and AP skirts. Be ready for almost every top and blouse to be a bit short on your torso though.

I only know things like "You're not going to try to store drugs in the hotel room, right?" and "You don't sound like a hurricane when you're asleep, right?" because of personal experience dealing with those kinds of people, and another question like "You're not going to try to turn the room into a sauna or freezer or something, right?" from a horror story I read in a thread here. I thought that, too. I considered doing them on my machine with hand-guidance, but I don't own an embroidery machine with design programming, so that's an idea if nothing else works out and I can find one for cheap/learn how to program it.
I decided to go with acrylic fabric paint since I have more fabric-paint experience and following >>9856728 's idea with a stencil for cleaner lines. I am considering going white acrylic paint base+silver metallic paint overlay to show up on the black fabric.

Thanks for the ideas, anons!

It is a normie term if you live in Europe.
That's why some people in my comm can call their fashion style "Alice á la mode" when normies ask about lolita, because normies understand that better than lolita.

Unfortunately I developed very short hair. In my line of work you need to be attractive and be able to take a beating. I was wondering if there is such a thing as battle wigs. One that can stay atop my head as I get tossed around and go through a lot of activities.

Is the dress black, navy, red or bordeaux? If it is, you should dab it with a wet cloth first to see if the color bleeds.
Most of my pieces are cotton black/white and never had issue with washing any of them, but it's better to be safe than sorry. If you have some of those color catching sheets I suggest you use one of those too, just in case.

If you're feeling brave you can just use fire. Cut of the fraying and then carefully bring the ribbon close to an open flame (like a candle). The synthetic material will begin to melt a little, preventing further fraying.

Try reaching out to drag queens that do a lot of violent hair whipping. Find their videos and reach out to the specific queens via social media. Don’t just toss up a general post or you’ll get worthless cross dressers failing to be helpful. I know that a fair few of them shave their heads down, duct tape their heads, and bobby pin their wigs into the duct tape.

Hooded or monolid for tutorials. Generally hooded eyes have more fat deposits than your eyes seem to, so I would suggest tutorials for both and a lot of play time to learn your own eye shape. Plan to make 20 attempts at eyeshadow that will all be pretty bad, to give yourself a reasonable expectation while building skill up. It’s easy to get discouraged when looking at someone else’s highly practiced results.

Dreamwidth move was after Lolita’s started using fb. What happened is that it became obvious to make a group there as fb got bigger and bigger. Once you started making events ON fb, it started making sense to use it for other Lolita stuff instead of linking back to lj. Getting new ppl made more sense too, everyone has a fb.

Once your local comm was on fb, the other stuff like rc and cof came after since less and less ppl were using lj. Sales was the last thing to move, since fb isn’t good for selling on but once lm started it made no sense to use the old procedure of egl sales comm
