What lolita brand designers and official models/public figures have you met, either through organized events or by chance? What was your best experience?
Who would you want to meet in the future?

I've met a ton of them at events, particularly indie designers, and my favorite to interact with so far have been Haenuli, Voodooodolly and CloudberryLady. Haenuli in particular puts a lot of effort into being personable and remembering her fans.

Kimura-U really surprised me with how genuine and nice she is. She also personally assisted me trying something on when I stopped by her booth which was not something I've really seen any designer do. Aito-San of RPA was surprisingly cool too, though she had this vkei feel to her that made it intimidating for me to talk to her.

One AATP designer I met was interesting, and let us look at her sketchbooks, but for the most part all my interactions with baby staff/designers has felt very cardboard. Misako also felt less like a person and more like a walking advertisement. Not that there's anything wrong with wanting to keep some personal distance when you've got to interact with so many people, but it just wasn't as enjoyable as the energy Haenuli and Kimura-U put into their interactions.

Me as well. I met her at an event and she greeted me with a hug even though I had never met her before and wasn't wearing anything from her brand. She was really friendly and insisted on hugging me even in the picture. Everyone that met her that day left with a positive experience. She's really just super sweet and even though I'm not a sweet lolita I miss seeing her model for AP.

I've worked with quite a few models and designers over the last few years.

Midori - She is a blast to work with and is really super fun. She will also just randomly walk up to someone and hug them or lean on them if she's tired. She really loves boobs.
Akira - Really quiet behind the scenes, but is very warm and friendly when you speak to her. She also really loves boobs.
Misako - Is more a watcher vs a doer, but is nice af and waaaay more human backstage than in front of people. I've seen her chow down on ribs and a burger. My life was made after that.
Yui - SUPER SWEET AND CUTE LIKE OMG. Also, she's a demon. If she hands you a drink, don't drink it.
Yura - She was super jet lagged and slept a lot but she was nice. Kind of quiet as well.
Kimura U - She is just the definition of precious. Very energetic, but she is also incredibly professional and has a very clear idea of what she wants.
VM (I'm spacing on her name) - She was such a joy to work with! Very professional and has the cutest smile. It seriously rivals Midori's.
Chinatsu Taira - Very fun!! She laughed and smiled a lot and cracked jokes to everyone
Hasegawa - He's probably one of my favorite designers to work with. He's super nice, kind of shy, and really love Star Wars.
Maki & Asuka - Super professional, like don't bother them at all. Asuka is very serious, although I have seen her laugh a few times. Maki is adorable. They work as a really great team. They've been working together so long they really don't even communicate, it's just natural.
Shiva - Very friendly, loves to touch your shoulders and hold your hand. She gives off a very warm vibe, and it's almost some what mother-ish. She made one of my closest friends feel incredibly supported and understood, and it made my friend cry from the support.

My favorites are probably Hasegawa and Midori but all of them are amazing people, and I have never had a bad experience with any of them.

If Yui hands you a drink, it typically means you are going to be on your ass after a sip or two. She mixes every alcohol available and drinks it. We had a party for the guests and I made the mistake of taking her dare to finish her cup, which was only about 2 shots full. BIG MISTAKE. I passed out on the room floor and didn't wake up until about 6am.

Drinking in lolita with lolita idols is the best and I think everyone should have that experience at least once.

Some events have an interpreter and some guests know a bit of English, but speaking Japanese is going to be your best bet for having any meaningful conversation with a Japanese guest.

>> No.9849616

I briefly met Natsumi from Metamorphose. She's pretty nice, I didn't really spend a whole lot of time talking to her but at the Rufflecon tea party I had a chance to exchange some words with her. I let her know how much I loved Meta and she was really happy, thanked me for my support, and was REALLY EXCITED that I was wearing a dress of one of her designs.

Also interacted with Triple Fortune a bit at RC as well. They're pretty much exactly what you'd expect haha.

I'd really like to meet Haenuli, and Kuniko from Physical Drop/old meta designer.

>> No.9849618

>>9849615
Yeah, this. I've mostly interacted with guests through interpreters so you only get so much time to talk to them, you know? I was jealous of the folks I saw talking to the guests in Japanese because you could tell they were having a much more substantial conversation. It definitely made me want to try to learn more conversational Japanese.

>> No.9849692

I didn't get to interact with with her very much, but the designer of VM complimented me when she was taking photos with our table at a tea party.

She exclaimed "Oh! So beautiful!" and my soul left my body and went to heaven for one brief shining moment. I think she was just being nice, I wore a cheesy ass shiro bridal coord and my wig was way too yellow. Nevertheless it made me super happy.

Akira, as well, I expected to be super stoic much like she is in her photoshoots. She is actually very friendly, cute, and almost dorky. She was cracking jokes left and right from the guest table. I love her so much.

I know this is going to make me sound entitled, but it makes me sad that Japanese-speaking lolitas these days don't share their convo's and things they learn from Japanese interviews and videos and stuff. I don't even scan any magazines anymore because I know nobody is going to translate/read them anyway.

>> No.9849787

I've met Maki and Asuka, Yumi Fujiwara, Fumiko Kawamura, Misako Aoki, Kimura U, Imai Kira, and Kokusyoku Sumire.

Kokusyoku Sumire are my long-time style idols so it was a dream come true to meet them and see them perform. Also Imai Kira is very friendly and sweet, though she's generally a pretty private person she made an effort to greet and chat with everyone at the event.

I also saw Mana/MdM at AX in 2009(?) but I can't really say I "met" him other than attending a signing. It was still a cool experience though.

In the future I'd like to meet Midori, she is super cute and seems like a fun person at events.

I met Misako and the Putumayo designer at the Putumayo collab tea party. Misako called me kawaii and we chatted a tiny bit about the style. The designer said that tall girls are sexy in broken english to me when I said his brand's skirts are too short for me. It was a good time. I also met Midori and she's a sweet bubbly cutie pie.

>> No.9850040

Maki was super sweet and urged me to take a photo with them when I had something signed. Asuka didn’t really speak English but was friendly and tried to communicate. Got excited when she saw what I was buying because it was one of the items she designed.
I got to model with Risa, but she was a bit cold and didn’t interact with any of the models backstage. Maybe just shy/introverted. AP chief complained about my height the whole time, saying I was too tall despite being within the requirements.

Ahhh you're so lucky to meet Natsumi from Meta! It's one of my dreams to meet her one day.

>> No.9850225

I met Natsumi from Meta and Kaie and Babi from Triple Fortune at Rufflecon 2017. For some reason Rufflecon didn't have interpreters to assist the Japanese guests at their booths, and so I ended up interpreting for Triple Fortune, Meta, and one other stall that sold kanzashi (I forgot the name) on Saturday and part of Sunday. It was a lot of fun.
Kaie and Babi were very professional with customers, as expected, but when it was just us they kept making jokes and chatting very casually. There was one memorable occasion where they asked me to interpret between them and an independent designer who was there (I think it was Cloudberry lady?), and they were telling her that they had seen her stuff at previous cons and were really impressed, and had been following her online. They said they thought she was very imaginative and were very supportive and kind, saying that they were looking forward to seeing how she grew as an artist, etc. She was so happy to hear that, and it was so nice to be able to interpret and be a part of that conversation.
Another memorable moment was when I showed up again on Sunday in a TF bonnet and Babi and Kaie fussed over me and adjusted it and complimented my coord. My heart was beating so fast during that time, I felt like a shojo heroine. Also Babi smelled soooo good.

Natsumi of Meta was really sweet, kind, and sociable. I mentioned how my favorite meta release was the pintuck jsk because it is so versatile, and she seemed very happy to hear that. She talked about how she wanted to make more "adult" and classic lolita oriented releases, as their customers are getting older and are leaning more towards mature and classical looks. She also mentioned how she tries to make every release as versatile as she can, so that it can be coordinated in a number of ways and suit many different substyles. She struck me as very serious and passionate about lolita fashion, and the amount of thought that she puts into each release is incredible. I really grew to respect her for that after talking with her.

Discriminating people on skin color is the very definition of racism. Fair skin is preferred, but I'm pretty sure most Japanese people don't point at anyone who's not completely fair-skinned and talk about how disgusted they are, kek.

You're the one who's getting upset and reaching here. If you'd take a moment to breathe and not just reee about racism you would have been able to understand my posts. But as is you just look like you're on some witch hunt. Not one did I say "it's fine for her to do" or "lol who cares if she's racist."

She's older, from a time where this is more acceptable(especially from somewhere like japan where xenophobia is almost to be expected), and made an insensitive comment.

Is she calling people n*ggers or committing hate crimes? No. Is she enforcing her preference on the brand she oversees? Yes. Is that a bad thing? Not really. It happens all the time.

>> No.9850696 [DELETED]

NAYRT, but you said "to be fair", as if she was being bullied or something and you needed to defend her. She's racist, and pretty openly rude (as another anon said she got yelled at by this same woman for being too tall, and someone else described her as savage). Most people aren't like that, so it was worth mentioning. There's no real excuse like "Oh she's from a different time". It's just how she is, and it's especially odd in a culture where politeness and not being so brash about your opinions. That doesn't make her evil or whatever, but that's that.
Now chill out.

I suggest you take your own advice. Are people not allowed to provide different perspective in an argument? My bad. I thought that was common but according to you it's not.

Higher ups in brands are rude all the time, higher ups in brands set their preference as a standard all the time. It's like you've never really experienced working with designers or brand owners before. Model doesn't look how the designer/owner wants? Then she's out. Tough shit. It's as simple as that.

Brands don't have to pander to what you think is fair. Was it shitty of her to single out someone from the crowd? Yes. Was it shitty of her to comment on how one of the models looked? No. That's her job lol. If the model doesn't look how she wants(too tall/too fat/too old/too dark) she's free to speak up about it.

She had a translator walk around with her and that's how she was able to communicate. Some girls that spoke japanese had conversations with her that way but I wouldn't say she gave them preference or more time.

I met the VM designer Nimu when I worked the VM booth at a con, she was so sweet and tried really hard to converse with me in English.
She also gave me umeboshi candy saying it was her favourite flavor. I didn’t realize it would be so sour and salty so you can imagine the constipated face I made trying not to grimace. She was also nice enough to follow me on instagram.
I also probably creeped out Akira when I stared at her in the lobby of a hotel while I was waiting to get my staff badge.

I've met the designers of Victorian Maiden and Juliette et Justine.

VM's designer was nice, polite but at the same time a bit reserved. She came to me and asked if she could take a picture of my outfit. She complimented me of my outfit like 10 times. I tried to ask her a few (not complicated to understand) questions but then she excused herself. She understood English quite well, but didn't talk back much (maybe she was a bit insecure about her own English skills).

JetJ's designer was hilarious, she has a really funny and outgoing personality. She also came to me and asked to take pictures of me. Her English was so-so but she was still talkative and not afraid of making mistakes and just kept going with the skills she had. We talked for a few minutes and when I left she said goodbye and gave me a short hug (which I thought was a bit unusual for a Japanese person).

Her nose is a little big if you’re going to get critical, but imo she’s cute.
