The bottom chain I don't mind at all, despite not usually liking straps on chains, but the top one really ruins the bag for me because it is covering up all the character faces.
>>9823585
Messy. Imo items that are placed with no rhyme or reason show a real lack of care for the character or hobby. Like they just bought shit and made a bag to fit in.

Bit weird to have a bag dedicated to 4 girls (that aren't even a complete unit like in >>9823570).
Maybe they're basing it off the duo albums but it'd really be better to just make separate bags..

Hope this isn't a stupid request but I'm looking for some color recommendations for this layout. I'm thinking about a cream/white bag with a dark insert since my badges' colors are pretty varied. I'm currently looking at this bag https://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/aw/d/B06XPYZ428/
I'm also looking for critiques on the layout. The badge and strap with the other character are only placeholders and the row of straps on top what I would like to incorporate to the bag but isn't necessary.

Question: Can multi-fandom/character bags look good, ever? Or not really?

>> No.9824101

>>9824072
Imo multi character bags look fine if there an even amount of merch for both characters. If its mainly one character with two pieces of another then it looks tacked on.

Multi fandom-no. Thats just your typical 'messenger bag covered with pins of shit I like' college look. I mean, if you're ok with just having a pin bag, that fine, I think most anime fans go thru that stage, but don't call it an itabag.

Have you got a white/cream colored bit of fabric you can lay the merch on for comparison? Your picture is kind of dark so all it really tells me is that dark colors won't work well but other than that I can't say much about what will compliment it other than if you get cream/white it may hide the protective covers of the merch so you can group them a bit closer for the stuff on the top row.

As of right now I like how you did the bottom three rows but for the top row maybe if the bag color hid the protective covers you could group close enough to line them up with the other rows.

multi fandom bags can be itabags anon, they just need to have a consistent theme in them. Generaly Magical Girl Bags are some of the most common ones posted online. I know a few anons that are making horror anime bags which are also multifandom. Some of ye are so quick to come through with the whole “its a pinbag not itabag” sperg wheb it’s bot always necessary

Best I can do is some paper towels on a cardboard. Hope the lighting is better at least. I also removed the protective cover from the big acrylic for now. I'm thinking about modding the cover since it looks plain next to the other strap.
The top row in my first picture was just a bunch of merch I would like to incorporate in my bag but just didn't really fit, unless anon has a suggestion on how.

Different anon but that defiantly helps the merch pop more than the dark fabric.

My suggestion would be for a lightly colored insert and a dark blue bag with red & gold accents. There's a lot of blue in his merch and clothes so it would tie in nicely with the bag, but you need that contrasting backer board or it will all blend together.

I looked through a lot of sites, but I"m going with this one because 1) they have both normal and rounded squares and rectangles and 2) they let you do multiple designs per quantity. (up to 3 for free, any more has an extra charge)

I'm currently deciding what caps I want made into buttons and working on a ps mockup. It's hard because I've got so many good caps, but I'll post when it's finished.

I personally love these bags when they're a cosplay of the character. Most photos are WIP and in the end they end up decorated with badges and straps.

I mean if people post shrines here I don't see why we can't have these creative bags. Long as they're not shitty con bags anyway. (But OPs example was a bit shit).

Yes, that is a functional use for the stamp, but it was worth $500 before you did that, and was incredibly rare and held emotional worth to collectors before you did it. Now it's STILL worth money and value but... did you really need to do that when they reprinted the same stamp design last month?

It's not just the price it's the price combined with the risk of damage. At least rubber straps in a bag can handle a lot of contact, but a bulky piece of plastic has way more risk of getting smashed by an innocent mistake.

But I'm a cheapskate so maybe I'm too concerned.

Its only worth $500 if you actually plan on selling it, which she clearly didn't. Who cares if it got reprinted with the same design. It belongs to her, its always belonged to her. If you're getting so upset because waaaah she opened the box!!! then you need to step back and realize it wasn't yours to begin with. You keep waving the cost around but why the fuck do you care? It's a mass produced toy, its not like it's a genuine historical artefact.

Posting bags to apologize for beating this dead horse.

>>9825334
I’m not particularly upset about someone choosing to do what they want with an item they purchased and never intended on selling - I unbox figures for exactly the same reason, I want to display them and I don’t care if it depreciates value because that’s how I enjoy the product I purchased. So that’s nbd to me.

But, c’mon man. “Historical significance” is EXACTLY the reason anime fans feel second hand pain over a piece of rare old merchandise like this. That is exactly the same emotion, that this was a piece of history for their show, that combination of awe and nostalgia. Whether you value old stamps or old merchandise is only reflective of whether you value a country’s history or an anime’s history. Both are mass produced products designed to be sold for a profit, that only hold significance because of their scarcity and emotional attachment.

Same. I end up boxing most of what I receive and not touching it for quite a while because the joy dies out fast.
I started downsizing orders for starters, even if I still make a fair few smaller orders, at least decreases costs. Also cut myself from purchasing unless I absolutely love the series/character and/or am specifically collecting them for a specific project. Must already have a bag/diaplay in mind for the latter option.
Also selling what I don't absolutely love or don't use that I have sitting about.
Doesn't solve the issue itself but helps feel less bad about money spent and is helping me waste less money.
Using the money saved to pay for a trip instead.

I’m also in the same boat. I have a few badges I want to hang on a bag and don’t have enough stuff to make a full itabag. At Movic’s site they sell a double loop fabric strap so you can attach both ends to bag handles using carabiners. The pic is from their site and it’s just what I wanted to do to my bag. I want to go to an event soon and this strap lets me be a geek and not break my back when I use my bag. Do you think you'll ever stop, or will you truly be this loyal to your husbandos and waifus for the rest of your laifu?

I'm at that point as well, although I was already a merch hoarder before starting to make itabags. I started putting what I get in the mail directly in storage because I don't feel as excited or motivated to work on my bags anymore.
I think keeping the items you are eyeing on a wishlist and getting back to it a few days later or so helps deciding whether or not you really want the stuff. Find something else you want and put the money you didn't spend on merch towards it instead, like a nice piece of clothing or a weekend trip.
One thing I do sometimes is wear some of my merch as acessories, like making small acrylics into earrings or a regular one into a necklace, wearing the badges on my clothes, etc. Gives me a bit more of a sense that they aren't a waste of money and that I am getting some use out of them.
Also putting for sale whatever pieces I don't absolutely love or that I won't be using.

Then I lost my job (for unrelated reasons), and even though I had no more money coming IN, I was still buying merch.

This only works with non-paper based stickers. If you want to do regular paper type ones you need to do a few layers of mod podge on each side to seal it, or you'll end up with the resin seeping through and makes your sticker look wet/greasy. Epoxy based stickers (like the more dome shaped stickers) you can usually do resin over without mod podge first.

The thing is I knew they didn't work a super high paying job either, and they were about ten years older than me and worked overtime every week

Hey guys, looking for some advice, I craft with UV resin and I was wondering if there is any drawbacks to removing the chains on charms and then using said resin to attach pin backs (like you would see on an enamel pin, not safety pin style) to the backs of my charms, I am thinking two per charm so they have no chance of moving, just thought I would check if as I don't want to damage my merch, thanks

>> No.9835702

>>9835602
It likely won’t damage the merch, but will diminish the value of it, since you’re permanently modifying it. I’ve used resin to add pinbacks on unofficial stickers I’ve domed, but that’s it.

If your main concern is the charm not moving, there are less-permanent options like sewing around it with clear thread or double sided tape (which I haven’t used myself).

How do I tell my friends to stop buying me merch? Like I’m a really big fan of this character of this series and I have three bags for him but... 75-50% of the stuff I have is gifts I’ve gotten from friends though because they like buying box sets for their itabags and no one else in our friend group likes my husbando. But I’m a bit picky with my merch, also I try to save money and buy individual pieces that I want secondhand. Also, whenever I post about a new bag I’ve put together they suddenly give me merch for that husbando and I’m like please stop I don’t need to get a bigger basebag already.

>tdr: advice on how to deal with too nice of friends?
>like sometimes I’m happy for their gifts but most times I’m like shit where can I put this in my already stuffed bag
>should I politely tell them no and explain myself...

Imagine coming in here to humblebrag about how nice your friends are and how terrible it is that they give you stuff. It isn't like they are giving you horrible bootlegs or bad fanart merch you feel too guilty not to use. I feel bad for your kind hearted friends.

>> No.9835791

>>9835788
As long as they're not hounding you to put their stuff on your bags, you could just store it away and forget about it. Or get a small bag dedicated to your sub-par gift merch

>Wow anon thank you so much for giving me this, I really appreciate it, but
>I'm running out of space in my bag and I'd really rather not buy another base bag
Or
>I'd rather collect merch myself, I feel like it's more meaningful this way, you know?
Or something like that.

I'm actually guilty of gifting my friends with stuff for their itabags, not from box sets or anything, just merch I pick up for them every now and then; and from my perspective, I'd appreciate being told to stop if it's in any way inconvenient.
You know your friends best so you'd know how to approach this without being rude, but imo you should be just be honest. I doubt your friends want to make you feel bad when they do this.

Im an artist from AA/online store.

People are weird about this but as long as you dont charge more than what the artist sold it for, generally people are okay with it.

People flip their shit though when you sell an artist item for more than what you bought it for
>I disagree with this because market value/people can do whatever they want with an item they bought and own..?

>> No.9836287

>>9836276
Different artists will have different opinions on the issue. Usually they're fine with it if you're not scalping the items. Personally, as an artist who makes merch, if you buy it then it's yours. I also consider splits to be different than reselling.

Sorry gulls, I need to complain for a moment.

I'm a bit annoyed with Mercari atm. I've had my eyes on some merch for a while now and have been checking back every so often to see if it's still there, if I'm still committed to making a bag for this character, etc. I finally decided to dive in and start buying some stuff. Most of what I wanted hasn't been successful as it's a bit of an older series, and sellers have probably long forgotten about their listings.

Now, in the past few days there's been a pretty decent amount of new listings, but I'm usually asleep during these and when I wake up they're usually sold. I just caught a new listing that's gone up in the past few days, super excited because it has 4 pieces I want in the lot. I just checked my email to find out that Japonica refuses to do business with the seller because their "rules are difficult."

>tl;dr I can't buy merch and I'm bitter

The character is an unapologetic perve to the point where fans regularly release edits of chapters where he is edited out of the story completely. BNHA is a great modern take on a Shonen battle series but is often dragged down by sexist shit that mostly comes out of Mineta.

She wears a jacket that says "Mineta Protection Squad" which suggests she has a very skewed view of the character and fills her bags with free con swag buttons.

Thanks to tumblr I'm used to fangirls forgiving awful characters and people "because they're hot" but he's just a weird little gremlin who's superpower is "I have sticky balls that grow out of my head."

>> No.9837018

>>9837003
Damn anon, I understand somewhat now why this character is so hated but if he was actually "hot" or conventionally attractive would the fans still treat his fans this way?
I don't think they would and it's kinda mean imo

I don't like shounen that much since I outgrew Naruto before its disappointing end
No matter how good BNHA might seem you guys should at least remember that Mineta is a character created by the mangaka nonetheless

Like I see a lot of people ship the frog and gravity girl together and there seems to be this opinion that they'll end up canon
But we all know that at the end of the series all the characters will be straight, married (some characters randomly matched up if they don't have any in story love interests) and literally everyone will have kids like normies but really it's because SJ will want to cash in on the "next generation" like with Boruto

Anyway all of you guys have my respect for being able to still sit down and enjoy shounen
