I really like this dress. I think it's interesting, with the cut and use of lace being clearly old school inspired but then the print and fabric being so modern and the length being kind of its own thing. The print itself looks like an old school busy floral from a distance but up close it's AATP's typical photoshop nonsense. It's almost like looking into an alternate Lolita history where the trends just evolved differently?

Sorry blogpost. tl;dr this dress is cool.

I wish lolita these days were a little more creative with their cords. The OTT pastel vomit fad is slowly dying out, thank God. However this matchy-matchy mentality is bound to kill the fashion.

Nothing kills the fashion. Nothing happens when you don't wear matching clothes. Just do it. The rules aren't even necessary anymore. Like if all US lolita comms collectively decided to stop wearing petticoats, lolita brands would still continue to do their thing like nothing changed.

If all of the people complaining about this would post to daily-lolita instead of CoF, they'd solve their own problem. On CoF, you only post one picture so of course you are going to post your best coord. On daily-lolita you can post your experimental coords and lazy coords alongside your best one.
>inb4 livejournal is dead
There are a lot of active comms, and there are still people posting to daily-lolita (more than to egl)

>> No.9822418

>>9822395
Cgl killed the daily experimental Lolita group though. People just started making threads for that group like CoF to criticize and many people were posted to the ita thread.

I wear lolita every weekend, often just for myself, and I wouldn't mind posting daily stuff but I just don't want to deal with the bullshit and negativity of this place.

That's why I never even post on CoF because I am aware that anything public is a free for all, and I'm sure most daily lolita feel the same. Most of the active members of my comm wear daily lolita but never post. We just want to enjoy our fucking clothes. People are whining that no one posts daily outfits? Well too bad, it's your own fault.

I know people were talking about creative coords but it's seriously the same issue as with casual. People get torn apart. There are plenty of interesting and creative coords on Instagram.

Yeah I could post and just not look at the threads but why should I post? I think that's the line of thinking a lot of girls have. I don't care what people think of me or my coords but that doesn't mean I'm okay with giving content to talk about. There just isn't any benefit for people here..

Ideally you'd be able to say in your terms of sale that you can refuse a sale to anyone for any reason, and then PM an LM mod to get the negative removed as well. The LM mods have a rep for being not very responsive though, so maybe that negative is something you'd have to live with.

As for other repercussions, it's the same with any other vendetta. They might try to post your photo in other places and rant about you, and if it's someone in your own comm they might start shit with other members.

If you live a very public life on social media, they might even be able to stalk you online, track down where you live, set some shit up, contact your employers/school/your family/etc, or harass you some other way. Which is why need to lock these down in the first place, blur out friends' faces in your selfies, turn off location, post infrequently and not immediately, etc etc. If all of this is already out there I'd worry more about finding some way to delete your online trail instead of focusing on outing the scalpers, it's way too much info that others can use to harm you.

A lot of dysfunctional reasons. Some 4chan guys have said they stalk some girls simply because they were unemployed and bored, the info was there and the girl made it easy by putting so much info out there.

Others are apparently just psychopaths with animal brains.

Lots of crazy people in the world who don't know how to behave. I'd like to think most scalpers are just people who don't see anything wrong with being paid for scouring sites for cheap stuff and taking the effort to resell them with better photos and descriptions. But who knows, some of them might be nuts. You just want to make sure you minimise your own risks, even though none of this shitty behaviour is your fault at all.

I don’t understand why people who make these complaints don’t just stay out of the ita threads. You realise that whenever you leave the house in lolita, there’s a good chance normies are taking pictures of you to talk shit about you behind your back too, right? I have cousins who are part of a Facebook group dedicated to laughing at goths and emos photographed in the street and I wouldn’t be surprised if there have been lolitas posted there, too. It’s part of wearing alternative fashion and it’s never going to go away, so it’s best you learn to deal with it. As long as they’re not coming onto your post to insult you, they’re easy to ignore. I haven’t looked at an ita thread in over a year and asked my friends not to notify me if I’ve been posted and it has improved my enjoyment of the fashion tremendously. More than sitting around complaining, for sure.

You should really be looking at where you’re going and who you’ll be meeting. In most bigger cities, there’s enough different races with different religions, most people don’t care if you’re wearing a real rosary (and a lot will simply assume you’re wearing China-made rosary jewellery instead of a real one). In which case it’ll be fine as no one will bother getting annoyed. However, some areas have very religious people who will take offence, or if you have someone coming to the meetup who is religious, it’s better to avoid wearing it.

You should also consider what you’d do if someone does ask if you’re Christian. If it doesn’t bother you to explain that you’re wearing something cool you found in a thrift store, and the other person might start talking about Christianity to you, then go ahead and wear it. If you’re going to feel embarrassed or bored talking about it, you know you can easily avoid that by not wearing it.

Finally, if you’re handy, you can also consider taking apart the rosary, remove the religious symbols and then put it together as a necklace. It’s really just a set of beads put together in a strict formula after all, and you said you only wanted it for the colour. I’m mentioning this as an option because you said you’re not religious yourself (so you don’t have any use for a rosary yourself), and I assume the rest of your outfit is not religious-themed (since you only asked about the rosary.)

One of the most difficult parts of punk lolita is how it should look natural in the person. Although this girl's coords are usually very good, she's missed the mark here, in part because of her choices of headwear and hair not fitting the punk feel. She'd probably be able to pull off punk lolita better with her natural hair, which is short and coloured.

I guess this pic seems to illustrate the difference for me. This girl recently posted on IG asking if people liked the outfit that leaned towards sweet or the one that leaned towards punk more. The "punk" outfit obviously won, because it looks like it belongs on her, not like a lolita costume she put on. Sure, this doesn't have the direct punk references Spiro's coords have, but it looks less like a costume and more like a casual outfit with some punk (desu maybe more post-punk) influence. Like >>9825137 said, it's all in the details.

I am judging it based on punk lolita, do you know anything about it yourself? Are you even familiar with the jp punk brands? If so, you'd know why I hate that coord so much. It is literally just edgy OTT sweet lolita, nothing punk at all about it. Like when people call holy lantern gothic.

You can't just throw on a pile of accessories and call something what it isn't. I love gothic and punk lolita and hate how unpopular the brands are, but it makes sense when people think this is what punk is

Chinese lolitas voted for this to be re-released. The poll was on weibo for months. Western lolitas are obviously not interested in JetJ, otherwise they would have flooded weibo with their vote to change the outcome.

There was also a pre-selection poll where you could vote for everything and the most popular designs would then compete against each other in the final voting, but of course with Chinese tastes only the most tacky designs ended up in the end round.

I've been feeling pretty uninspired by my wardrobe lately. I have 75+ main pieces, and I like them all individually, but when I go to coord them, I'm at a loss. Maybe it's my mood (I want to make a bunch of pastel vomit coords for spring, bUT most of my stuff is darker) or maybe I need more blouses/shoes/accessories, I don't know. I see girls on instagram wearing amazingly creative coords and I feel very cookie cutter in comparison. I want to make interesting coordinates, but I don't seem to have any good ideas. I don’t know if it got buried. It’s hard to comment on that when the issue itself is so vague. Is it a wardrobe problem or a feelings problem, seems to me like you gotta sort that out first before trying to figure out how to fix things.

As for your wardrobe, all we really know is you have enough main pieces. But do you also have enough supporting pieces? Is everything one substyle and you’re bored of that substyle, or is everything different substyles and therefore the closet is fragmented and difficult to match?

You should be able to pull at least 3 coords out of each main piece (even the OPs can go under a cardigan or over an underskirt or something) so if you don’t already have that down, that’s a good place to start looking critically at your wardrobe. If you’re just bored of the pieces or the substyle, do consider doing a cull and transitioning to a different style, first sign of being a hoarder is being unable to let go of physical objects because of blocked feelings.

When you say “creative”, do you mean you want to dress like that, or do you feel you can’t keep up? If the former, then creating an inspiration or mood board will help. If the latter, then take time to reflect on what you really want out of lolita, when and where do you want to wear it, and realise that it’s okay not to be creative. Life isn’t a beauty pageant, you’re not dressing for creativity marks from the internet.

Or maybe it has to do with lolita itself? Do you have enough places to wear outfits to, and does your wardrobe match the occasions? Are you just getting bored of lolita? There’s no shame in it if you are, again, don’t hoard dresses just because you feel a particular way.

- If it’s just wanting to make pastel spring coords but all your stuff is much darker, I’d take that as a coord challenge to make a spring coord from darker elements. Could be as simple as adding flowers to a dark coord, or pairing it with pastel blouses/bolero.

Just curious because I recently bought a blouse that should have fit with a few cm to spare but the seller was totally off with measurements, and while I can button the blouse up without the buttons popping off or gaping open, it's a little too tight for comfort. having looked at the blouse, there is quite a few cm taken up by pintucks and I'm pretty sure opening one on each side [because symmetry, I think one would be enough] would work, but before I do so I was curious if anyone else has done something similar? did it work?

Let's talk about lolita dreams.
Last night I dreamed I was at the japanese AP store and they were releasing a secret print that they would only show in real life and not online.
So I'm going there, they have a curtain on, they announce the name of the print being "Melty Princess Love" and drop the curtain to reveal a sweet lolita/princess actually melting. Her body, her face and her facial features, her hair,... everything was melting. And she was screaming/crying in pain in a disturbingly low voice as she reached her melty hand into the crowd.
Then I woke up.

I’ve also found that wearing the right bra works wonders. TShirt bras that just squish down your bust kinda just add mass everywhere; instead opt for sheer structured bras that lift your bust up and out. You’d be amazed how much nicer things look on you.

different anon, but the bodice of the jsk was incredibly short and small and even when my friend who is quite small and petite, the way the bodice was designed it looked way too small even for her. i wish that the border print was scaled down a bit smaller, and i wish the lace was attached to the hem and not the underskirt so it would show better and not ride up when worn. the button holes on the straps were also too small for the buttons and the buttons had to be cut off because they wouldn't fit through the loops.
all these complaints i've also heard from many other people who got it, and some of the complaints were even worse.

OP here. I really love the print and I think the colors and lace choices are beautiful. but like the other anon (>>9828289) said, I dislike how the bottom lace is sewn to the underskirt/lining instead of the hem, as it makes the lace poke out unevenly from the bottom of the skirt when the dress is worn. Another thing that irked me is that the tails of the front waist bow aren't even in length. Also, while I didn't have to detach the buttons for the shoulder straps like the other anon, it's still very difficult to fasten and unfasten them.

I feel like the design elements and details of my other AP pieces seem a lot more intentional. I think I'm just more disappointed by the dress because I do like it, I just wanted to really love it.

I've apologised to the buyer, let her know that I'm looking for it and offered to cancel the sale if she prefers that to not keep her waiting. Well, you already sold the blouse, didn't you? It's not irrational of the buyer to ask for a discount in that case.
If you really want, I suggest keeping in mind when your buyer messaged you (24 hours ago or less?) and searching your flat thoroughly one more time, based on that. If you have time to search and you find it, let the buyer know and keep the price you initially asked for. Otherwise, give the buyer a discount. If you find said accessory later, sellers typically send the newly found pieces to the buyers on their expense. It kinda sucks but so does receiving a blouse that's missing a piece.

I got tired of being a lonelita for the past 5 years because dead comm in my city, so I just took the bullet and joined the group in hopes that my schedule would line up with a meet.
It seems a little ... dead based on the Facebook page. There's not a whole lot of activity. Meets are planned every once in a while but it doesn't seem often. I honestly don't know how much activity a comm should have but despite being a very large city, I think it has less activity than other large cities. I think part of it is that not many people are planning meets and don't take the initiative.
Not as bad as the comm where I live, though. I'll probably be attending meets over the summer and I'll be new to the comm, so I guess I'll find out if it's as RIP as I'm afraid it is. I guess it's better than having no activity at all, though.

wow great timing for this post because I had a weird one last night.
I was at some sleepover event at my old school's campus and an ex-friend of mine who I fell out with was there. she was wearing one of my beloved DDs and a Moitie coat which I apparently lent to her before we stopped being friends. she wouldn't talk to me and just kept flaunting that coord which she clearly wasn't intending to return. I felt so helpless but kept trying to stay calm and cut my losses.

it's funny I had this dream. haven't seen that girl in over 2 years and I couldn't fit an MMM coat if I tried...but I'd treasure the everloving heck out of a Moitie coat that could fit my shoulders etc. I think that came from a very anxious place in me. valuing my stuff so much and being worried that my normie friends would take or ruin my things. I currently have a friend who likes to dress up in lolita with me but she's not knowledgeable at all about the fashion. she doesn't even try to look into it and learn about it. I always have to explain everything and I start to feel self-conscious and over the top with how much I love this hobby. we made a date to dress up, which was really fun, and I was looking forward to picking out a coord for her. but she wanted to wear one of my most fragile dresses. everything ended up okay and I didn't want her to take offense by trying to get her to wear a different one of my mains...but apparently my brain was still freaking out about potential damage since I had that weird stress dream.

I don't think I'm going to share my pieces with a non-lolita ever again. it's just stressful and not worth it. my wardrobe means so much to me. though it's fun to have a dress up partner I can't teach someone how valuable and special these old dresses are overnight. I don't even want to imagine having to replace one and how long that could take.

>the bottom lace is sewn to the underskirt/lining
I thought that was quite common for the polyester dresses?

I've always had problems undoing the buttons if they are a irregular shape like stars /shells /roses, so I'm not sure it's really abnormal. They are probably worried about it slipping off and really if you're unbuttoning it, you're probably doing so to move the button.
The tails being uneven, I honestly didn't even notice so it seems to be a design element as it is consistant with my dress as well. I also really wanted to love it, but I knew it wouldn't happen because of the polyester.

>>9828448
Huh, I'm kinda petite, but a little busty for my size, but it seemed like a reasonable length to me? It was similar to a few other dresses I own in length of bodice. Though I don't think this is a quality issue, more of a design element.

Releases I would say were pretty low quality were Aquarium Carnival, a special set (not surprising), and Twinkle Sky maybe for lack of detail. My best quality ones seem to be made either in Japan or the Philippines and worst in China and Myanmar (though I do have one good one made in China).

>> No.9829294

Not sure if it counts as low quality, more like lower quality but many of the newer AP dresses don't have a small petticoat built in anymore, which is kind of disappointing. It's not like it can hold up the dress on it it's own but it keeps it sturdier and looking nicer with a petti.
Also when I bought Fancy Whip (also had no built in petti) directly from AP it didn't come with a spare fabric swatch. I feel like AP is cutting corners lately..

I think they took the built-in petti out because polyester fabric is usually much thinner and more drapey. The line where the tulle is sewn in would have shown up as a bump going all the way around the dress because the fabric is so drapey. Same reason the bodice on these dresses are made with funky raw edges in weird shapes, so that there's no bumps from serged or folded fabric showing on the chest side.

I can confirm that Whip Factory at least still has the built-in petticoat, it puzzled me that a special set would have it but not a regular release, until someone mentioned the thing about leaving raw edges in the bodice.

The sample fabric swatch is a bit of a mystery to me too, but to be honest I think it's something people mostly throw away instead of using it to test laundry methods, so I wouldn't be surprised if they nixed it because they saw it as added cost without much added value.
