I just finally, FINALLY snagged this (in black) off it's the 2004 Meta velveteen bonnet, and it's one of the few bonnets Meta has released that will be a perfect match for my black velveteen Meta op. I really love bonnets, I wish they'd come back more.

I guess I'm still not as used to seeing them in my comm/area, at least for casual meets. They only tend to show up en masse for like, fancy events, which happen once a year at most. When I say "come back" I'm referring to more Momoko/old school style soft bonnets than Triple Fortune types.

Are there any good alternatives to Triple Fortune when it comes to fancy bonnets? I want a nice elegant black bonnet, but I'm not a fan of TF's black bonnets, I've seen them in person and compared to their colorful bonnets they look kinda sloppy and not that great. They rarely appear second hand and I don't like them enough to shell out 18k yen for a brand new one.

not understanding your argument here. are you talking about the famous half bonnets with the chiffon folds? they're all the same just different colors so how are the black ones sloppy? they do have several different designs they've released over the years so you might have seen a different bonnet thinking TF has only ever released pic related.

AatP, Private Square, Meta, and Elpress L have made very fancy black bonnets too
TF's are sturdy and beautiful in my opinion. the one you saw in person must have been in very rough secondhand shape.

It was at their con stall where Babi and Kaye themselves were selling stuff, so they were definitely brand new. The flowers looked like they were lower quality that the flowers on colorful bonnets, with threads around the edges and they seemed kinda dusty or smthn, I honestly don't know, but I remember how compared to everything else on the table the black bonnets looked very flat, sad and underwhelming. Maybe it was just the contrast with the bright colors all around them?
It's really not helping that on their KERA shop page they have really tiny crappy pics of the bonnets with no detail shots, so with my previous encounter in mind I'm really weary of investing in one. Maybe I need to see them in person one more time and take a better look at the details and construction and things.

anyway, these are incredible hard bonnets that you won't find anywhere. the price is right for the structure and detail.

Idk man, even in the pic above you can clearly see how on one side there's just several black roses that are kinda blending in with everything else, while on a colored bonnet there's usually flowers of several sizes and shades, and also that little white bead-like plant you see in bouquets, idk what they're called. I know you can't add different shades/colors on an all-black bonnet, but still, I feel like they could do something to add some oomph to it, you know?
Maybe I'm just being unreasonable, there's only so much you can with one really dark color, but I mean it's kind of a big deal for me. so I wanted to do some research before I made up my mind.
