Featured net-idol: Galaxy Girl Paida

>> No.9809690

I like dancing in jfash, especially lolita, because it makes me feel cute. I love Paida’s aesthetic, too, it’s very uchuu-kei and adorable. But as long as people color coordinate and at least dress up a little, I’m good with whatever. Just don’t wear crappy wigs.

>> No.9809779

Not much to contribute as I don't give a rats ass about net idols, but I have net Paida at a few cons in Texas. Super sweet girl and genuinely nice.

>> No.9809834

Yakko (of Q'ulle, formerly Danceroid) uploaded a behind the scenes type video of her and Ikura (also from Q'ulle in case anyone lives under a rock) filming ニア.

There's a lot that they do that a lot of newer or less experienced odottemita or net-idols don't even bother with. Things like:
>filming a whole practice shot for lighting, background, and to make sure you're centered
>RE-WATCHING those shots so you can actually see what you look like on camera
>practicing interactions with your partner like hand holding, hugging, etc
>make sure your outfit(s) match well with the song and area
I'm not sure who it was, I think it was Wata(?), but she said she would film herself at home practicing whatever dance she was working on in a few different outfits to see what those clothes look like on camera, make sure they're not distracting, and move well with the choreography.

Also don't let your frustrations show. Everyone messes up, even these girls who have been dancing for a while. Keep trying and if you feel like you really can't get a good shot, there's no shame in packing up and practicing more at home. These are just small little things but they can improve the quality of a dance by margins.

Here's the finished product so you can see how much there hard work paid off!

And here's some other favorites from both of them where you can also see the detail to editing, emotion, and location:

I just don't understand how there are so many of these groups and none of them see how terrible they are.

I just don't get the whole pretending to be idols when all you do is buy cosplay from taobao and record badly choreographed dance and call it a day.

And I don't even want to touch the ones who attempt to sing.

And then they all want to try and be guests a conventions like they bring something if value?

Learn to dance, learn to sing, work your ass off a few years then maybe try to impress someone.

This comes up in every thread. The answer is that most of them are just doing it for fun, as a sort of hobby-you-take-seriously. It doesn't make them immune from criticism, but it's not the same as trying to be a real idol. At least to me, part of what I enjoy about this community is seeing people start off with awkward performances and work their way up. It's inspiring to see them making progress.

So this is kinda the only place i can ever discuss idol anime without it turning into creepy waifu discussions

So has anyone see WUG Next Chapter and what was your opinion? Are they going to do more?

I enjoyed it a lot. It lost some of the darker feel from the first season though and the animation is prettier which also took away from the fact the girls are meant to be more average away but i still liked it. Run, Girls, Run was cute but i didn't think the show necessarily needed them at all.

I also watched Perfect Blue finally after putting it off forever and holy shit. Wish I'd known the guy who did paranoia agent and paprika did this one because it would've prepared me for some of what I saw. Enjoyed it a lot but man some of it was hard hitting. Did she really get raped or was it just a really intense scene she had to act through because they kind of blurred that line a bit?

I still want to be an idol but my birthday is coming up and i'll be 27...probably too old but maybe i'm still cute enough desu?

I enjoyed the new WUG a lot. I agree on Run, Girls, Run.. wasn’t a huge fan of them.

You know, a less serious/horror version of Perfect Blue would have been a cool idea. An idol transitioning to a professional musician life in a RomCom plot would be interesting to see. maybe this is unrealistic but for once I want to see an idol group that have any fundamental performance skills.

None of these "net idols" look like they have ever taken a singing, dancing, or theatre class.

You don't need to be pro kpop level to have even a small shred of performing arts talent.

When I was involved in performing arts there was talent everywhere, but all the people were boring. When I'm with interesting people who are into idol shit... none of them are talented? Where's the middle?

Does anyone else have groups in their comm like this that feel personally attacked by all the love live groups that are around? I just find it funny because the group in question I would say is just as equal if not slightly worse in comparison to the top 4 groups in the area. Just because you don't dance love live, unfortunately that doesn't mean you are instantly more polished, have more variety, and do more complex things.

They seem to be a bit out of touch as well since almost half of our local groups do things over than love live (boy idol stuff, idolmaster, akb etc) so they definitely aren't the sole non-love live group in a sea of muse and aquors.

It was a post in a local group;

"Hi!!! I'm 17 and looking for some anime watching, cosplay, or dancing buddies!! If you're interested pls comment and we can be friends I'd love to meet more of you guys!"

And somebody commented linking to their love live group mentioning that they were scouting for new members if OP was interested in dancing... then a couple comments later was the comment in the screenshot.

I thought the same thing, if I was OP and I saw that comment, I would think, "well there's a group I wouldn't want to join they don't seem very inclusive or friendly if they're creating competition when there doesn't need to be any."

Yeah, however there is a little more push for anime to be acknowledged in the NA ( bad phrasing, short example: anime airing in the US first then in Japan) so maybe one day we'll get what i'm really craving: A series on the realistic side of idols while still showing why it's okay to like them or want to be one since there is something special about it.

Plus the ones that acknowledge that most fans are men give it a more realistic push too on it's own.

I get why it's rare but it doesn't mean I can't still hold out hope for more like it.

>What sort of outfits do you like to see groups and solo idols use? Casual and fashionable clothes, or frills and poofy idol skirts? What are your thoughts on "member color" outfits?

Depend on what style of music they primarily perform. For example, these outfits are cute but are more what I would expect to see for an upbeat cutesy pop song cover, not a slow mature romantic one.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2_AIRpoHVcY

I love Fairies' outfits for this performance, but I couldn't imagine covers of songs like START:DASH!! or Let's Aikatsu! in similar attire.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44sPh9o5t9g

I like casual outfits when it's not just everyone in the group wearing the same basic t-shirt and skirt or plain dress, and if they're well coordinated among all the group members.

To me, unique member colors for outfits only seem necessary when there's enough group members that they're hard to tell apart, and/or the members having individual personalities is a significant aspect of the group.

Stage costumes should be super sparkly and floofy- It's the same principle as theatre costumes, you need to be colourful and bright to make you stand out on stage for the audience.
In terms of just videos/photoshoots I don't think the costumes need to be too OTT, but I don't mind if they are. Idol costumes should be fun.

It also depends on the theme/style of your group though- I wouldn't expect something like pic related on a more "mature' group.

>> No.9817892

Majority of idols don't really have a "persona". There are a few like Pikarin and Hanako-san but thats like their whole gimmick. Theres a difference between a persona and a gimmick. Idols are suppose to be the average girl next door type of person so it wouldn't make sense to slap a persona ontop when its meant to be natural and real.

>> No.9818054

>>9817892
But that’s exactly what they do? You’re right that a gimmick and persona are different but the literal definition of a persona:

>the aspect of someone's character that is presented to or perceived by others

A persona can be a gimmick and many idols have or had them that are in non-alternative idol culture. Momoko from Berryz had Momochi but dropped it. Risako from Berryz and Haruka Shimazaki from AKB48 have the “serious”/“rbf” kind of persona. There are idols who have a sexy or shy or boyish persona by are totally different off stage than on. Even the “girl next door” type is a persona. The difference is they learn how to make it natural and some do it really well (Sayumi from Momusu) and some don’t (Masaki from Momusu). Like I said though, in the context of the situation I understand what you mean. Average girl next door doesn’t always mean cute sweet innocent girl although it can be that.

Love live recolor mary su OC = / = persona

I agree with >>9817892 that personas and gimmicks are different. The while thing with idol personas is that most of them are done jokingly (like the things >>9818054 said) and emphasize they are also a normal person behind their persona joke. Persona's are also not required to be an idol. Theres lots of idols who already are bitchy or serious and thats how they truly are. I don't think its right to pressure people to give off a persona while being an idol.

However, recolored love live cards with a uwu unique tragic back story is not a idol persona. Its a roleplay character. Idol roleplayers like that should not be valued the same as actual idols with presentable talent like >>9817628 said. SSR and other instagram idol agencies should not be taken serious if they value them the same.

And from what I’ve seen, the whole recolor is associated with a persona that they’re playing. It’s dumb but they tend to use it interchangeably (again this is from what I’ve personally seen). But I also agree that they shouldn’t be taken in the same regard as Mondai Society or really any group/person actually trying to be idols.

I'm willing to overlook things like not having wigs, or groups that go with plainer clothes and unofficial cosplays/uniforms, if the dances are good. It’s always “haha yeah if we like you you’re in.” Nothing vocally or otherwise is required of them. If you require something of the people who you want in the group, you’ll get talent. You’ll get less people interested but the ones who are will be pretty honest and willing to work.

What are you talking about? Any kind of hair can be styled or just put a wig on it. I have very thick and curly hair that I thought was impossible to style until I learned how to.

That’s their point anon. She’s saying she can’t pull off the ‘natural hair’ seiyuu style and she has to wear a wig because of her hair if she wants to replicate it, thus getting rid of the whole ‘natural hair’ aspect of it lol

Right. I get that, I just don't get why they're trying to make it sound like an argument haha. My original comment was just expressing appreciation of the natural-hair look, I didn't say it was necessary or that everyone should do it. So I don't totally understand why this one anon took it personally and started a discussion about how she'll never be able to do it. I did say that i tried to straighten it but i'm not that desperate to waste a lot of money onto my hair just so i can look like a seiyuu. That's where id rather have the dance moves perfected than the whole look perfected since dancing doesn't cost money (it just cost time)

It's littered throughout the entire runtime.

The topic about SSR agency flew by already but I thought I’d still talk abt my experiences w/ them.

The admins are apparently pretty young? The admin I’m assigned to is like 13 or 14. I guess that explains why they’re so keen on the SIF roleplay thing. I’m probably also gonna leave bc they’ve been super unprofessional and weird even though I got a pretty good first impression from them... I’ll also try to get under Mondai Society probably.

Also at first it seemed pretty professional, because we were the first ones to release our ”debuts” and we had a pretty strict deadline to follow. In the end after our admin group had posted our vids (Jazi, Jiyeon, me, that one group i dont remember the name of) they suddenly decide that lol, let’s get rid of the deadlines. After us Exactly One person posted a cover (Maya) and it was just really weird. Like then suddenly they started looking for more ppl and we’re still waiting for more info.

They also asked things like ”what kind of an idol do i want to be” and at first i expressed some interest in being like an alternative dark-themed idol. they immediately pushed that down bc lol it’s not love live enough!!!!

my admin is also a huge stellure fan. figures.

I’m going to leave and become an individual idol rather than be under their unprofessional roleplay agency.

There's nothing physically stopping you, and if you get grilled for what you put out, so what? Use the advice to get better.

The biggest sin people posted here commit is not listening to the criticism and using it to improve. Would you be willing to listen to it or would you be pig-headed like Stellure and try to truck on with a formula that obviously isn't working?

Also if you went solo you could create your own deadlines, persona, aesthetic and filming style and decide what everything else would entail without having cringey weeblets wanting to fulfil their own LL RP fantasies.

There's vocaloid, idolm@ster, akb, perfume, passpo, dempagumi, hello project, wasuta, and PLENTY others. Being a love love group kind of restricts you to just being a love live group..? Which doesn't necessarily make you net idols or a dance group, you're cosplayers who occasionally dance. And when there are SO many and it floods our feeds for the past couple of years with the same restricted number of songs, it gets incredibly old incredibly fast. There are so many LL songs I can't even stand and won't give the time of day anymore.
My advice is, do whatever you really want to do. But if you REALLY want to stand out, you're going to have to put in some effort.
-Have stellar recording and editing quality
-Honestly try to avoid the crappy convention or awkward stage locations, find somewhere pretty to record that makes sense with the song
-try to be uniform? Have the cosplay outfits made by the same person or try to order them from the same place, even if the quality isn't 100%
-have ENERGY, facial expressions that match the song, lip syncing while you dance
-there's no harm in extra practice

And I don't really want to say it but it really helps to have a group that's overall attractive and around the same size. All those points aren't requirements but I'm sure they'd help your chances. But like I said, do what you want to do. Don't worry too much about what other people think?

Example: this is one of 864787554385431 Kaguya covers. They're super spread out, they aren't always lit, members look awkward and confused, and they are outdoors at some event? Looks sloppy and boring.

Another example: here is another of Kaguya, but actually makes me want to watch. The video is super hype and creative. It's MV style which isn't a MUST but certainly helps, as the same static shot of goes dancing gets pretty boring pretty fast. It helps to make things interesting, like in the beginning with the people with light sticks in the bg and then switching to actual lights after a bit. They don't look confused or nervous, which REALLY helps

It's not horrible, but yeah, definitly cuter with bangs. I prefer her hairstyle in their new intro video.
