I don't think this is cringy, unless the person in question takes it too far. I've always had the impression that playing as the character you're dressed up as just to have some silly, lighthearted nerdy fun, is a part of cosplaying. You're dressed as a cartoon character among other people who are also dressed as cartoon characters, for fun, what's the point of taking it so seriously?

One thing that i think is cringy but love the fuck out of is groups of cosplayers going around a con and just having a good time being as a group, like team skull or homestuckers or really just any one big group of a certain stuff like that as long as they aren't bothering too many people are just being cunts.

Also dabbing is a guilty pleasure, i love dabbing has died everywhere but cons and at raves

One of my 'friends' who I'm stuck with through mutual friends is the cringiest. He thought it was a good idea to show up to class today in a shitty Naruto cosplay. We are in University. It wasn't even the first time.

Yeah, but I feel like I'm disappointing people who ask for pictures and stuff, like I've had people ask me to play out specific scenes and I'm terrible at it, it's even worse when they want to record it, but I get what you're saying.

When people treat others as if they ARE the character that theyre cosplaying.
Eg: harassing villain cosplayers for things the character has done, thinking that cosplayer a will be okay with sexual advances from character b because autistic shipping.

My friend was once harrased like this because of some shitty OTP. The other party filmed the thing (one reason we tried to act nice) and it went almost to groping and shit before we told them to fuck off.

On the people who think they're the character- we had a girl in highschool who insisted she was inu-yasha's demon girlfriend and would try to have full conversations about them together. Then she got into FMA and Ed lived with her. I still see her at the local con almost every year in the same bad FMA cosplay. Hasn't improved it in over 11 years.

What's cringe-y at cons to me is

It has more of a presence on tumblr and occasionally instagram, but yes, there's tons of infighting over who's the real (insert character here). Even some of the kins that are full grown adults claim that someone identifying as the same character is stealing their identity.

here's a post about her. go through the notes. people who've met her for about 3 hours are the autistic weebs who are crying and defending her. the people who said she's a terrible person are the people she molested during anime club.

yeah she's shady as fuck. don't buy cosplays from her either. she's been known to randomly raise the price because shes poor and can't get a job and literally depends on her grandparents money.

her drama in the anime club was insane. one of her victims dumped her because she was tired of her touching her and fingering her at school without consent and Kimika said that she was going to "kill herself" and because she supposedly has asthma, she ran around her neighborhood and "passed out".

we all later found out she was at a friends house and not trying to kill herself.
