A few months ago, there was a thread where people tried to make a new subset of lolita fashion. This time, let's try to come up with a new -kei as serious or as silly as you want.

Barre Kei
>based on the JP pronounciation of ballet and the handrail
>stretchy basics
>variety of colours, mainly light pastels or jewel tones
>lace and ruffles
>trying to wear pointe with little success
>petticoats
>intricate details in clothing or accessories

メーデン系/Maiden kei

Based on the peasant dresses of Aurora, Cinderella, Ariel, and Snow White
>kind of a mix between mori and himekaji
>neutrals mixed with brighter, yet still softer colors
>corsets worn casually
>elegant feminine details like pintucks, small bits of corset lacing, simple embroidery, and lace
>skirts on the longer side
>scarves as a fashionable accessory
>lots of tops with corset-like solid portions and sheer sleeves/necklines

Fantasy Kei
>inspired by JRPG character designs
>some grade of zettai ryouiki (short skirt/shorts paired with thigh-highs and/or thigh-high boots)
>capes, cloaks, corsets, detached sleeves, fingerless gloves and hoods - all acceptable
>can range from relatively tame to thotty, and from casual to OTT
>accessories would be based on usual JRPG props like weapons or potions (so, chokers or rings with a sword charm, necklaces with potion charms, a bag with a sword design, etc etc), as well as jewelry, especially fancier jewelry than usual (eg forehead gems wouldn't be out of the question)
>lots of leeway in color use and execution
>somewhat different executions for different character types (priest/healer/mage style would consist mostly of light, flowy material and religious/magical motifs/accessories, thief style would consist of a more urban/"delinquent" oriented style with lots of zippers, short shorts, small jackets, hoods/cloaks, bared midriff, etc, warrior style would include more armor-inspired clothing and capes, etc)
I couldn't decide what image to use, so I just put together pic related to give an idea of what the silhouette would be (Sword Art Online and .hack have good inspo material too). Casual/standard outfits would simply keep in with the silhouette, with maybe a few accessories here and there, while OTT outfits would go all out and include detailed headwear, fancy capes, feathered jackets, more belts/zippers, more elaborate jewelry, crazier color combinations, temporary tattoos, etc.
I spent more time than I'd like to admit thinking about this, to be honest.

I'm not disagree but you aren't really distinguishing it much from general lolita. Which is why I didn't want to use an example like Umineko characters because its all straight piecemeal out of EGL Bible.

I think the "chic" and folksy European flair shown in SSR is what sells it as a unique style. There are elements like the use of harlequin prints and border-stripes and selective antiquated "witchy" things like 18th century buckle mules that gives a whimsical or romantic impression which is distinct from general EGL.

I think another indicator for the style are elements with "outsider" status, borderline on theatrical. Like the pajamas are Romantic like a french Pierrot. Stripes historically were only worn by outcast classes and performers, same for pointed hats which have no precedent in mainstream fashion except for some 15th century henins.

I think the biggest differences from EGL would be;
>Eclectic coord pulled from different periods and trends
>Heavy use of symbolism and romanticism
>theatrical elements to set an "otherworld" tone
>Attention to color statements
>No superfluous complexity
>feminine but not juvenile

If you can see it, its a bustier/kirtle, not a corset. A corset is foundation wear like a bra, and wearing a bra outside your clothes is not kawaii.

>how would it work for everyday wear?
Take Serah from Final Fantasy for example. For a more casual look, you could wear a toned-down outfit, but add details like an intricate arm bracelet, jeweled hair accessories, and/or an arcane design to basic looking tops or thigh-highs.
Instead of focusing solely on the "kawaii" aspect, like a typical weeb girl would do, making things more fantasy-oriented is the key.

>> No.9786016

>>9785560
There are two things to say about this style.

One is that it is intentionally over-designed because someone has gone over it in many iterations to perfect a style for a particular character. A lot of the time you covet the style because its a complex assortment mean to convey their personality.

The second point is that the reason Japanese fashion can get away with these things is their ability to re-imagine the individual parts from a perspective boldly removed from its context. If a western girl grabs a tartan print skirt she might say "well this looks Scottish or patriotic or X Y Z" and not be able to pull it off confidently, or mix it with something like those yellow converse boots.

I don't think you need fantasy elements, Serah has no unique item that is fantastical but whole is greater than the sum of its parts. The best advice is to narrow down elements of a style that suit the impression you want to give (but also doesn't clash with you true personality) and try to make a cohesive whole out of the chaos.

"otasa no hime" has dodgy origins, though. Someone posted rantings from 2chan incels complaining that girls in anime clubs are always ugly, dressed funny, and always surrounded by beta orbiters so the incels can't get near them anyway (but they're totes ugly and the incels don't want them anyway). Hence they're "princesses" of the anime club. As cute as the style was the threads on here always derail into heavy shitposting, so I'm not surprised it didn't survive.

Last I heard the style describe in otahime got folded into girly kei. I don't know why girly kei didn't take off, though. Some gulls even complain Eternita and Miel had too many girly kei spreads in it instead of being only lolita.

Hikki-kei on the other hand was one of the fashion trends born from a thread like this, except for some reason it got really popular for a year or two and started having entire threads dedicated to cute sleepwear, and a few people started tumblrs. And then just kind of died off, and now even the tumblrs are gone. Which is a bummer, there were girls highlighting where to get some super cute sleepwear and housewear. I guess that shit takes some effort to keep posting consistently, though.

Mainland Yurop here, every time I order afternoon tea in a cafe or restaurant they just bring me a single cup of tea, with maybe a biscuit if I'm lucky. Afternoon tea in Britain = high tea in the rest of the world.

Nayrt and Brit gull here, some of us call our evening meal/dinner 'tea' so I guess the origin of that comes from high teas back in the day, but no one actually says 'high tea' anymore. If you asked for it in a tea shop they would probably just assume you meant afternoon tea.

I should've mentioned that I'm also a britfag, and I'm well aware of the use of tea meaning dinner. Regardless, High tea is served in plenty of places as something different to afternoon tea. It's usually closer to a full mean than just cakes and sandwiches.

You’re thinking “Otahime” probably, and a few of us (guilty) ran a few threads last year as a meme. It’s really more of a stereotype than a style.

An example that was given by someone who took the whole thing too seriously was that “basic bitch” is not a style, even though you might find “guides” to it or what have you online.

it was, except I’m not sure that she tried to shove it down everyone’s throats as ~totes real j-fash guys~, but I might be wrong. shame it didn’t become more popular though, I enjoyed some of her Borden kei coords. I suppose a vaguely Edwardian aesthetic is not enough to start a movement.

I was legitimately interested because I love Edwardian fashion and I wish I had something to describe my style which leans towards being heavily inspired by it.

But borden kei seems to want to achieve being like a creepy doll. And the person who thought of the idea admitted that it's named after Lizzie Borden, the murderer.

What I was trying to aim for when I was talking about Edwardian kei was creating a fashion that had the same prints as classic lolita, but in the silhouette of an Edwardian dress.

I guess it's weird. I really like a lot of the prints for classic lolita dresses, but I don't like the silhouette of lolita.

This could either be absolutely awful or amazing. Like say if you base your outfit off Ashe's from Final Fantasy XII, you're going to look like a thot who got dressed in the dark. On the other hand if you go with FFXV's aesthetic and add colors, it might actually look decent if not a little bland from afar.

Or you could go full on Yoshitaka Amano and wear a leotard, a buttload of flowy scarves, a cape, a crapton of beads, tassels and other dangley things. And don't forget the long hair, random spikes, and lipstick.

I 'know' a woman who unironically dresses like this. My friend did a course with her years ago, she's 30 and pretty much always dresses like that. Her dresses fit though, and she's dang pretty. I am so jealouse of her hair, it's longer than her beltline and freaking gold coloured. Apparently a nut job though, you know those weirdos on /pol/ that think there's actually a nazi base in Antartica? I heard she believes stuff like that.

I am almost with you on this one, but my window is very small and like 1910-1915 when shirt-blouses and more chic day-wear was in vogue. The early century stuff is just too "much" as a whole with the s-line shape and excessive busty bouffant and frill. The early stuff is very top heavy with leg-o-mutton as well. I posted the >>9785788 example which is late enough to shy away from the things I'm not crazy for.

I do like your pics dress type as well as this one, and the belts, hats, hair-styles (but with more fringe) and shoes of the period.

Its just an incorrect meme that wont go away. "high" tea makes it sound classy so the assumption continues when in actuality its an old type of late-evening tea meant to replace a proper supper for the poorer classes.

>> No.9792647

True. I'm planning my best friend's wedding and she wants an afternoon tea after the ceremony, but the caterers I'm talking to refuse to call it anything but "high tea" even after I explain the difference. I've pretty much given in and started calling it high tea too, because that's become the term to use when you really want afternoon tea. Every time I call it afternoon tea (also for lolita meetups) the restaurant/caterer just gets confused and asks if I mean high tea.
