There was a really decent Garcher cosplayer who didn't shave his beard at this last con, he just dyed it separately to match his wig. If you want to do that, it COULD work sometimes, but generally I'd say shave for a costume.

But you've got some characters to cosplay as, for example I wanted at some point do do a costume of this guy from Valkyria Chronicles while my wife would do Alicia, the female MC.

Just look to western video game characters, there's a fair amount who have facial hair. Adam Jensen, Gordon Freeman, etc

There are plenty of good bearded characters to choose from. Google "bearded anime/vidya/comic characters" and you'll see.

If you want to cosplay someone like Link though, it's going to look really low effort unless you do Grizzled!Link or something.

Beards are unhygienic and ugly. If you request girls to shave their whole bodies we can request you to at least shave your faces and if it’s just for a cosplay

On a slightly higher up side of the spectrul, I'm thinking about cosplaying Hei from Darker then Back, and I've got short hair. Fool has some long ass hair in the anime.

most anime has perma stubble, not alot have much more. you would have to shorten your beard alot to get recognized. video games is your best bet. Ryu has full hobo beard now canonically and Big Boss is always poplar.
