Post fursuit/mascot pics, questions, stories and anything else fursuit related.

Frequently asked questions:
>How much is a new suit?
Expect to pay at least 2k for a fullsuit commission, 3k+ for something padded, and higher for a realistic suit. Heads typically go for 400-1k, partials 900-1.5k.
>Where to buy second hand?
https://www.furbuy.com/
https://www.thedealersden.com/
occasionally the 'fursuit' tag on furaffinity.
>What about Japanese suits?
list of makers and other relevant kemono suit info
https://www.furaffinity.net/journal/6993893/
>Fur supplies and diy?
www.matrices.net/tutorials.htm
>Foam?
Amazon, Joann's, etc
High density for heads, med/low for body/padding.
>How to clean?
Handwash, low heat, no dryer! (unless you have a no heat setting)

Why do people enjoy dressing in skimpy clothing? Isn't it borderline freezing while wearing virtually nothing?
Same reason, because they enjoy dressing up as things. The thing they enjoy dressing up as happens to be furry (literal definition, not subculture).

Because it's fun! I know there's a whole escapism culture and getting to be someone/something else for a day, but that exists in every hobby. Really it's no different from any other elaborate costume. There's an element of performance to wearing a Fursuit where you need to really exaggerate your movements so it actually shows underneath all that fur, that's a fun challenge like entering a cosplay competition performance but on a less stressful basis.

I do it because I love being fluffy and cute for a while instead of a boring ass office worker who has to conform to society. But I also like the social aspect and the art elements. Overall the fun outweighs the negative and I'm always capable of taking a god damn shower after wearing a hot costume.

they've been brought up a bit here, some good, some bad.. but really, if you like the premade, get it.
their quality is actually very nice, i have a suit from them from '16. lots of visibility and the ventilation is great too. they're roomy enough to fit glasses as well as a small fan.
the sizing is pretty universal for their head bases. it has an elastic band on the inside to keep it on nice n tightly.

while i do love my head from them, it does look very bobble-heady if you're on the smaller side.
pic related is my lb head (rest not by them)
i did edits to my head to remove the bumps that a lot of the canine heads have around the smile (which really is what kills a lot of the heads for em) and I also added eyelids

Why do some suits get so high? Is it just so you can own a suit from someone popular? Is it because they hope that by owning the suit they will become friends with the popufur people who also own suits from the maker and they are buying their way into a "furry family"???

Quality aside it is just a really plain Reindeer. Cute for sure but it doesn't exactly stick out. Not to say a suit has to be sixteen colors a la a donut steel deviantart OC but almost 6k for this feels crazy.

It’s the maker. Phoenix Nest is very popular (used to be phoenixwolffursuits), they made Telephone the Angel Dragon’s suit, and their queue is normally really full.

So for some it’s a chance to get a suit from a maker they dream of. Others it’s a chance at popularity. This company is the one that made Sniper, the DAD suit that sold for $11k

>> No.9741825

This is a sacrilegious comment, but a lot of suitmakers majorly overcharge for their work. In the past, I’ve had suitmakers say to my face that they “take offense” to being accused of such, and that fursuits are better-made than Disney or pro-mascots and are still underpriced.
As if some generic, one-color plantigrade dog head man suit is worth 3k+. They just don’t want to admit the price is due to demand for the product, not skill or materials cost. I mean, if I were to pay 5k+ for a suit, I would expect to have a custom headbase made for my suit. For the same amount of money you could commission a pro-mascot company and get a more custom product. So as consumers it’s important to check which makers are really worth the price and which are selling the costume equivalent of pre-distressed designer blue jeans.
Also, pro-mascot companies don’t “open for commissions to be started in two years”.

It's not really overcharging if chumps are willing to pay, now is it?

>> No.9741859

>>9741847
True. Maybe it’s undercharging, actually. Best way to go about it: have a massive backlog that you maintain by adding onto it (opening for commisisons not to be even started in the same year as the opening, you just want that downpayment). Then, you have a “rare commission slot for this-year’s completion,” effectively cutting in line the backlog, but only if you pay 10k after a bidding war with other shmucks. Do this a few times a year, make bank. (Also never finish the backlog)

That sweet downpayment money is how suitmakers make a living, not the commissions and payment plans themselves, lol. To be honest, becoming a suitmaker or furry artist or whatever as a primary occupation is fucking stupid. Even if you find a bunch of rubes who will pay 5k for a basic suit, you aren’t going to have a comfy lifestyle (or even have enough time to improve your art skills) due to the low income. It’s only when you have a good system going that it will work. I think they jump into the game too early.

Off topic, I have a friend who is terrified of fursuits (not the people in them, but the sizes of the head reminds her of nightmares she has.) I had to let her hide her face against me when they'd get close, but what really pissed me off is when they noticed she was bothered and would hover around her more on purpose. If you notice you scare/bother someone, move the fuck on please.

Besides, I understand why people would prefer the style of the kemono fursuits but wearing them is not easy as compared to a western style suit. So I'm completely new to fursuiting, and I was wondering: what do you guys think about people buying major premade parts and building up from there?

I've found a base skull by DreamVisions Creations and I absolutely love it, and since making base skulls is out of my ability, it's a perfect way for me to be able to get what I want; I like doing the painting and putting on fur and small details more than I like building the base.

Would I sorta be viewed down because of this? I know I would obviously have to credit DVC for the base skull, which I have no issue doing, but I'm just worried about being judged harshly for not making every piece of my head.

Complete newbie.

I am absolutely in love with a bunch of suits on Furstar. Does anyone know how long it takes to have a suit made by some of the creators (asking for any, as a general guide) also if any might do payment plans? Or would I just be better saving up a whole 4k and paying in full?

>> No.9743728

>>9743707
I don't think there is any japanese maker that accepts payment plans, you pay a deposit right when you order and the rest when they are done. Amanojaku/Furstar only needs about two months once they start but when they start depends on their amount of orders before you but is usually about a half year in total.

>> No.9743775

>>9743728
As someone who has ordered from them off of Furstar in the past-
They do take payment plans. I did a lump sum myself so I wouldn’t have think about/forget a payment but they do not mind payment plans.

Check their website, Atoama.jp (or just google Atelier Amanojaku, their company name.) to see where you would be in the queue; example, right now the expected delivery date is July. So they would start working in May or June. Mind you, delivery date sometimes just means when the suit is finished, not actually sent out.

Here is my experience!
>Ask them to hold design for me in September or November (cant remember. design had not be adopted in months so I didn’t think they minded)
>Officially order suit late november (2016)
> Discuss payment plan/when I can pay
>Am sent packet featuring fur choices for character, the payment quotation, and a little book about their company all within a folder
>Pay off in December
>They disappear, tell me they will message when they begin
>March rolls around, production has begun.
>Suits “delivery date” was in April,
>Receive suit early May.

I will warn you they don’t really do WIPs. For me they sent me one of the finished body, and then one of the finished head. Then they asked me if I wanted any small alterations and changes. Once the suit is confirmed A-OK they send it over! Ships fast too. Expect 1-2 big boxes

I didn't have to do a deposit. We discussed the payment, I told em that I'd rather do it all at once and to hold it for me and they did. So I saved up and paid her off all at once.

Honestly you can just discuss and plan it out with them, they're really chill and don't mind. I know another anon was going to do payment plans (they cancelled) and they talked it over too

Yes! This was a sungazer lizard made by Beastcub. The story is kind of sad. Mordrude the cuntssmith was commissioned years ago for a realistic version. A fullsuit of the customer’s business mascot and fursona. Well, 5 years go by and Mordrude goes theough her “woe is me I am a struggling genius” shtick and the customer is told the suit is cancelled (Mordrude says it’s because the suit remids her too much of her ex...). So she only partially refunds the customer, refuses to give her the unfinished parts, and resells the parts to her patreon cult. Then she blocked the customer on all forms of social media. Tha customer was out a bit of money, and Mordrude got away with it because I think she has big-name friends.
Fortunatey, the customer was able to find another maker to have her character suit become a reality. So there was a happy ending, at least!

There was a pretty good one but Garasaki then came in and wanted to sue everyone over talking about how shit K-Line has become, in the end the server was closed because nobody wanted to talk about fursuits anymore because she always would pop up again (also the reason why talking about K-Line was banned from the kemono fursuit maker FB group).

If they didn't want people saying bad things about them, maybe they should get their studio in order?? lmao
I always wince when I see a k-line photoshoot. the difference in quality between customer suits and owner suits is enormous, and rufen's work is even better than the current owner's suits. people still commission k-line in the hopes of getting something gorgeous like rufen or garasaki's suits and they end up getting a poorly fitted cat/dog recolor made by trainees for a massively inflated price.
I feel so bad for the people who ordered those cat suits from the latest set of premades and the sleeves didn't even mesh with the gloves properly, like god damn. even some snaps would've made the sleeves look way better.

Either way you don't get to send people to bully others into not talking about your company. Maybe get your studio to stop making average quality suits at massively inflated prices and stop coasting on the reputation of two or three stellar suits that your ex-employees made in the past? Eventually they're going to run out of people willing to drop $3000+ on a basic planti suit when they could get a shaped + padded kemono suit from AA for the same cost, or the other various up and coming kemono suit makers.

>>9745658
people post their art in it fairly often, the focus is definitely fursuiting though.

>> No.9745888

>>9745875
The only good suits K-Line have made in my opinion are the ones the various owners have made for themselves. Of the commissioner suits that I can remember, none have come close. Even when Rufen was their main artist the suits she made never came close to being as good as her personal suit which is understandable on one hand, but on the other they still use Rufen as a way to advertise the K-Line brand. She's not used as the face of the website any more, but she is there at every K-Line photoshoot despite not formally being part of the company any more. I think K-Line know that they have to show off all of the owner's personal suits at every photoshoot because they really are head and shoulders above the commissioned suits in terms of quality.

Speaking of AA, their photoshoots are great. There's no disparate gap in quality in their suits, all of them look fantastic when lined up against each other.

It’s because K-line makes most of their money from downpayments, not the actual commissions themselves. Rush out a hard-to-obtain product (while never finishing others) and get the buyers to think they’re part of an exclusive club.

>> No.9745925

>>9745911
But that's the thing. They're not that hard to obtain any more. AA are the biggest kemono suit makers by far and the quality of their suits from the photos I've seen are all fantastic and they take orders all year round. Then there's the various solo/independent asian makers you can find dotted around on Twitter who make some great looking suits. K-Line aren't the only option any more and as I stated before, they're just coasting on the reputation of a small handful of (admittedly fantastic) personal suits made by the old artists for themselves.

They need to pull their fucking fingers out or they're gonna be gone in a couple of years. Make something that looks actually impressive and do it for a customer this time.

Are there any western studios guilty of this? An artist's personal suit is typically gonna look nicer because they can take as long as they want to perfect it and they'll tend to be more passionate about their own character than one they're getting paid to make. But even still, I can't think of any studio group shots off the top of my head where it's so easy to identify who the artist is just because their suit is so much better than everyone else's

At the end of the day K-Line is a business like any other and for as long as people are willing to pay for this shit they'll pump it out. That's why negative feedback is so important for this company so they can produce suits worthy of that price tag.

But they don't care at all. Because as long as people think they're being made by Rufen they'll keep buying

>> No.9745948

Every wave of mediocre suits they release makes it more obvious to people that the talent their studio used to hold has little/no part in the suitmaking process any more. I give it two, three years max at this rate until they're gone. They need to get their senior artists involved again and make some actually good suits or lower their prices since they're charging premium prices to the customer for apprentice work.

>> No.9745952

>>9745948
Speaking of the apprentices, I feel bad for those guys too. They're working for a company who's reputation was built off one of the best artists to date and are doing the bulk of the work on the suits while the senior artists do I don't know what?? They're definitely not helping with the suits, that much is clear. I would say they turned it into a sweat shop but allegedly K-Line are grossly slow at making the suits that calling it a sweatshop would imply some level of speed.

The only two people of the staff, that ever did fursuits, were Rady and Eixin. Rady is a pharmacist studying at the Hokkaido College of Pharmacy since 2016 and Eixin always was shit at fursuits, always would go for who is the most popular maker at the time and try to team up with them (before Rady, he went for FZSW and in fact he is the one causing her to get harassed everytime she pops up again - he wanted to make a studio together with her, they made loki together for him as PR for that, he accepted a shitload of commissions before they were even open and shortly after that, the sexual harassment happend (it was his idea to visit Anthrocon together for PR purposes, just like how he does with K-Line nowadays) that made her quit fursuit making) and as result, he had to deal with lots of angry people wanting their money back which he blamed on her instead of himself.

They bombard social media with Rufen and Co., letting people fall into the idea that a suit from K-Line will look that good and then the poor commissioners get suits with issues like poor fur choices or baggy wizard sleeves. Then they have the nerve to bully people who are unhappy with their service and actively stifle people talking bad about them.
Step one for them would be lowering their costs and being more transparent about the quality you'd expect to receive from them. You will never find them hosting photos of the suits they make for people with blatant design faults.

Step two would be making some actually good suits for their customers. Then they could have an actual positive reputation instead of relying on people not doing some digging on them.

Which is impossible to happen as all good jp fursuit makers stay away from Eixin and the trainees seem to be used in a throwaway fashion. The only good thing still done is the semi-realistic heads that Rady does once a blue moon for booths.

What kind of low-rent Yakuza shit are these people running? It's clear they know their products are shit and they're pretty much scamming their customers, but I guess they have to silence the criticism or else the jig is up and Eixin will have to dump Rady for a new suitmaking project. Why does Rady still hang around with k-line exactly? She could perfectly well work independently. I'm assuming she gets certain benefits for her constant posing for photos for them to use. Not the same anon but I wouldn't want K-Line's fanboys after me either and they have been known to harass people even over simple things like sharing the same colors as Rufen - Kemosuki closed commissions and disappeared because of harassment by them over his last OC's colors.

>> No.9755169

I'm not dodging questions I'm at work, I'm also in the discord as well so /shrug. But also as the other anon said and from the amount of harassment and racist comments I got from their fans on Twitter, fuck man I don't want any involvement and I'm paranoid they still have my home address.

You don't have to believe me I mean lol 4chan. But I was asked by a fellow suiter to share my experience. K-lines customer service is non existent, they were extremely reluctant to reply to me when I asked for a refund after seeing the quality of the suits. Then when I did get a reply regarding the refund they told me refunds aren't possible once production begins, except they had told me my suit would not be started until January (this was in November). They told me if I didn't want that suit then k-line still retains ownership of the design so they could still sell it to someone else. But never agreed once to give me a refund.

Honestly I'm so fucking done with the whole thing. I did meet some cool furs who had bad dealings with eixin and they've been a great support. Now though... I'm just so tired of it and it's been nothing but stress. This isn't my first fursuit either but I've never once dealt with a "company" this vile.

Like I said, you're welcome to not believe me and I'm sure if they discover this thread I'll get more harassment. I didn't really set out to tarnish their business or anything since I know a few people who own heads from before they started showcase only (and they're nice heads!) But really i'm sad more than anything, and if you do want to buy a JP suit there are some really wonderful artists so buy one of those.

Hi there, the discord was made in late 2016 in case of the threads going down, its activity just fluctuates. This past year has been the most active, actually.
The threads have been deleted by mods in the past due to people being upset by the subject matter, but I know some people from here wanted to discuss the topic of fursuits.

The link to the discord was public but unfortunately a few months ago a bunch of dumb trolls from /k/ invaded and shitposted, causing a clog of the chat.

The discord is no secret, and I’m always willing to share a link in case people want somewhere to go when the threads die or if they start getting deleted again.
