Now that net neutrality is ded, how will it affect the online American cosplay and jfash/lolita comm?

I have thought about this and figured that for lolita, Amino would definitely explode or be utilized more if the situation is that bad.

We already hate having to use Facebook so app based comms would probably be the next big migration like Livejournal to Facebook was.

Okay, so how is data throttling going to effect lolita comms? Assuming of course that every single company is out for the sole purpose to fuck everyone over instead of actually keeping a customer base?

It isnt. Shut the fuck up unless you actually know what you're talking about.

Yes, I mad

>> No.9722554

There are only three countries in the world with net neitrality: Chile, The Netherlands and the US. If it passes only two will remain. All the other countries in the world don’t have net neutrality and those comms are just as alive on social media as others. So stop creating unneccesary panic.

I would totally be okay joining comms on an app as opposed to something like facebook.

I admit, though, I like using my laptop more than my phone. Especially for commenting and posting pictures. Phones are great but computers are still just way better. It's so hard to find a mobile app that also works well on a desktop site.

It's not about stuff being at risk, it's about allowing ISPs to ream your ass as badly as your TV cable company does. It's about giving free license to turn the internet into a feudal style network where you pay a local tax every time you talk to a server outside your city walls.

Even without Net Neutrality, the court cases ruling against throttling and such (see Verizon) are still valid and keep them from scummy tactics.

Sage for retardation.

>> No.9722908

>>9722456
This person in >>9722477 is making a good point. Throttling is a concern, but not a concern for people sharing their coordinate images, simple IM, and the ilk. That's only going to affect people into gaming or things pulling mass amounts of data. They're the ones who should be worried about it.

It's hosting servers (whether private servers or people like GoDaddy and Hostgator), schools, colleges, gamers, and the ilk it would really affect in the short-term whether it be throttling or other facets of what the repeal would allow.

We're just going to have to wait and see. If shit gets totally fucked up, the government will eventually have to step back in to fix it. Right now they're hoping that doesn't happen.

>> No.9722914

>>9722867
It’s also about how a lack of an even playing field will make competition difficult for new companies. I’m confident most people reading haven’t got a clue about global economics, but consider the future where the potential next Twitter or Facebook is only allowed to run usably fast on the networks of ISPs that don’t own a competitor. Now expand that beyond just social media sites to everything ISPs could own. This will have huge consequences for the future of the internet no matter where you live. Make your Weibo account today.

>> No.9722917

>>9722914
If a monopoly situation happens, it may get torn down. It's happened multiple times throughout U.S. history that the government has stepped in to dismantle monopolies. If it gets to that point, the federal government will eventually be forced to step in. The last time I really know off the top of my head of this occurrence was in 1983, the U.S. Department of Justice forced Bell Telephone Company to abandon their monopoly.

>> No.9722919

>>9722917
In theory, with a working government, sure. Have you been paying attention to the productivity (and attitude toward laissez-faire economics) in Congress over the last 2 decades? That aside, do you think Cheeto Hitler would sign a bill like that (because they ain’t gettin a veto proof majority, not with how many congresspeople are owned by donors). I personally don’t want to wait 3/7 years (or more) to be able to unknot this bullshit.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regulatory_capture
When Trumps admin came through, these agencies lost a fuckton of career workers who either resigned or were outright removed. Just look at the mess that is the EPA at the moment.

>> No.9723303

Don't need to worry about it. The ISPs made commitments with the FTC that are enforceable by FTC. We, in effect, got a little bit of the NN legislation without passing the entire 400 page whatever it was. ISPs aren't allowed to throttle or block content in secret.

They can try to throttle content, by they must advertise this. The consumer backlash is the check and balance against this.
