Shall we take bets yet on how big a clusterfuck badge pick-up will be this year?
I was in line 3 hours on Friday morning last year.

I'm driving my coworkers/friends to Austin each morning to attend this. I've been going to one or two cons each year for the past nine years while this is the first one for 6/7 of them (and the second for the 1/7). They're super pumped for this. I'm just hoping they don't get so crazy excited about it that they puke like I did nine years ago... I'm tempted to go to a 4chan meet up just to see what it's like, but I get the feeling I'll have to babysit a couple of these kids through the con.

I'm going and bringing a few coworkers/friends. I've been attending A-kon the past two years instead of going to this one, so it's nice to be back. I've been attending one to two cons each year for the past nine years, while 6/7 of the people I'm bringing with me are going for the first time (second time for the 1/7). We're driving to and from Austin each day, and I swear to GOD -- if they make me lose sleep by holding me up from leaving the con on time I will absolutely throttle them. I live farther than they do, so I already lose an extra 45 minutes of sleep just by going to pick them up. At the con, I'll probably give them a thorough tour of the con before going off to swim or something. I don't know if it's considered early or late for the average con-goer, but the con magic has worn off at this point. I'm considering cosplaying, but, seeing as I'm still terribly camera-shy, I'll probably be in normie clothes again.

Does anyone know if you must pay to use the pool and fitness room when you aren't a hotel guest?

I dont think they'll let you use it all unless you're a guest. You might wanna call them and ask.

Anon...
Yes you have to have a room to access the amenities. That's standard for every hotel. This one has a wristband policy too so you can't even get to the floor it's on unless you have a room.

>> No.9710740

Badge and wristband bullshit aside, anyone working on new cosplays? Spiffing up older ones?

I may or may not be going as Reimu (Touhou). Depends on my school schedule. I’m sewing the costume despite having not sewed for a decade, so here’s hoping it looks proper.

Good luck anon, I'm sure it'll come out great.

I haven't really had a chance to make anything this year so I'm working on 2 costumes, wish me luck anons! They're both pretty simple, but with the holidays December is always busier than planned.

>> No.9714605

Any artists here vending in the artist alley that can confirm they're using a juried selection system this year?

>> No.9714945

my panel got denied so i'm skipping this year lol

>> No.9714949

I'm going to be hosting my first ever panel there this year. It's going to be about surviving the ghosts and urban legends of Japan!

I'm excited, but also really really scared.

Dude, sounds hella interesting. Looking forward to it!

If you're like me, you'll find that giving a speech is 100x more comfortable and natural when you divide your focus on things that keep it interesting. When I had trouble giving speeches, I realized that dividing my attention between hand and feet movements (visually engaging), tone/volume (broadcasting), and speech material. I was too aware of myself to worry about failing or embarrassing myself. All my speeches since that moment have been super well-received, and I've completely overcome my stage fright. Of course, this'll only work well if you know your material super well.

Good luck!

Any deets on the cosplay guests? There's Teca, Sec-c (Jehn & Kiya), Malindachan, Ex-Shadow (Kyle), and Goldy. All I know is that Malindachan works for Arda Wigs.

"Nonexistent"-level expectations. It's a good "starter" con. It's fun for newbs and for people looking to simply chill and hang with friends. The AA/Dealer's room were in the same room last year, and it makes for a very short trip since there's not much stuff (in comparison to A-kon). I'd say there's maybe a large handful of tables in total. Anyway, the building is extra chilly in the mornings so keep a jacket with you. The hotel café serves pizza around lunchtime, and the line will be enormous.
