I wouldn't post this on CoF or wear it to a meet, but it's a very cute daily coord. If I didn't hate my arms I would wear something like that for casual wear. Just be sure to accessorize. A nice pink necklace and a few bracelets would make it more interesting without making it hotter.

I agree with anon, add a bow or matching brooch to the collar. Also play up the fact that it's hot, dainty ankle socks and perhaps a straw boater hat. It wouldn't go if you tried to make it OTT but keep it simple and clean and I think it works.

So, I know a few threads ago people were talking about wanting more active lolita youtubers. A few questions:

What would you like to see? I remember people not being super interested in unboxing, so what else would you like? Skits, makeup/diy tutorials, haul videos?
What's some aspects that would make you enjoy watching such a youtuber and coming back? What's some that would make you drop them?
Would you only watch lolita skits that involve several others wearing the fashion? What do you think about lonelitas attempting to make youtube videos? What would you like to see from lonelitas?

I'm asking because I'm definitely tempted to post videos related to lolita, but (as you might've guessed) I'm a lonelita, so having a bunch of friends around to do skits with, like Deerstalker, would be impossible.

>> No.9705343

skits and meetup vids and vlogs. i just want to see lolitas bein lolitas, hauls are boring, tutorials are a dime a dozen unless theyre good sewing videos

i dont see a problem with a lonelita making skits, just make them interesting or make a point of humour by having alternate characters that are just different outfits on yourself and have them be recurring characters in the skits, each with distinct personalities and stereotypes

No, it's not in bad form, buy what you like. It's not in bad form to turn up to a meetup wearing the same dress as another girl, either; if anything it's a nice surprise and often seen as "accidental twinning" which may later lead to actual twinning later, if you decide to plan it together.
It's only a bad thing if you knowingly copy someone else's style, as in copy one of their coords, because then you're not expressing yourself, just taking someone else's idea.

>> No.9706957

No, there's such a thing as having similar taste. Even buying the same cut and colorway isn't bad especially if the dress itself is rather common. If you're trying to copy their wardrobe exactly it's weird though.

Serious question, why is so much lolita stuff made with a huge waist size and tiny bust? Everyone memes on tiny Asians, so why are the standard waist sizes on blouses so big when the busts aren't? I have had to sell every brand blouse I've bought that didn't have shirring because even though the waist fit, the bust wouldn't close.

I just looked at j et j sizing since another anon mentioned them and their size 2 is so typical of dresses I've bought in the past, and they were a variety of brands including IW, Baby, and even a newer unshirred AP release. The size 2 j et j has a 83 cm waist but only 93 bust (my bust is 94 so it's close, but not close enough, and I don't like any of the current releases enough to custom order)

They assume you'll cinch the waist to fit with the corset lacing that's on most dresses/blouses. But it really stinks when they have none and the fabric at the waist pulls so far away from your body and they have lace placed in the princess seams.

Dolly cross hospital OP review anon- sorry its taken a while! The quality of the dress has surprised me in a good way honestly. Ive seen a lot of people put off at the shiny look of the fabric but its really not that bad irl, more of a 'sheen' than a cheap shine. The lace is fine, its only used decoratively theres no trim on the dress appart of the ruffle at the bottom which is slightly more shiny, but again not awful. The print is pretty crisp, and the fabric is white on the other side which makes me wonder how well it hold up being washed. There are quit a lot of lose threads. All the buttons can be undone and there is a zipper on the side. The print is noticably lighter in the pink colourway, some details hardly show up.

The one thing that i did find dissapointing is the nurse hat, its cute but in the stock photo it is worn to the side, but its so big wearing it like that looks ridiculous. I guess the models angle makes it look smaller than it is. Its the same fabic as the dress layered twice with a bit of fabic in the middle of, so its pretty thin and flimsy. One side is a little smaller also. It takes a lot of playing around + pinning to make it look nice.

Overall I like the dress. For a taobao dress from a brand Id never heard of its pretty good for the price. Ill dump some photos now

sort of a dumb question, but I've been out of the loop of lolita releases for about a year -- I think AP's Magic Princess is super cute, but I'm curious as to why it's resale value is so low? it seems like such a cute theme/print (mahou shoujo). Is the print not colorsafe? Do the cuts look weird in person? Or was it just not a popular release/went on sale?

thanks anons!

>> No.9708123

>>9708117

Anything from 2016 you can reasonably assume AP overproduced it and it went on sale. Magic Princess went as low as 10k yen on sale.

Probably didn't help that stock photos of some of the colourways looked a bit dim and dull. It almost looked like they designed yellow as their main dress and the others were added as afterthoughts.

The print doesn't run. The cuts are what they are (they don't sit wonky or anything, but one jsk was a bit military-looking and the other was a corset cut, probably a bit odd for a sweet print). The only thing is that there's glitter stars screenprinted on, so I guess you have to clean it carefully to preserve those as much as you can.

I get the feeling they were trying to match what was trending in Japan, little indie artists were making cute things like these and they kind of took off in 2015-2016. AP probably figured they could provide a dress to wear with your indie accessories and not bother with a full set, since most of these artists only make accessories, not dresses.

Forgetting that half their buyers aren't even Japanese and therefore have no clue this trend was happening, of course. If someone hadn't posted asking how to buy caramel ribbon stuff in the resin thread I'd never even know this had been a trend.

Gulls I need advice please!

Bought a Holy Lantern jsk off Lacemarket, including tights.
It was listed as "Condition: Like New", and there was no damages indicated.

However, I received it with a multitude of damages:
- multiple stains on dress (luckily removed with tide to go)
- poorly replaced strap button, damaging inside lining (one of the buttons is clearly mistmatched, not an original button, and its really pulling the fabric from the inside with the poor stitching)
- loose threads everywhere
- stained tights
- gold print on tights lost color in feet area, turning green
Of course, none of these things were disclosed in the listing.

I sent the seller a polite message 4 days ago, and it's still "Unread". (She has like a ton of things listed on LM too, so I doubt she's just busy).
I suspect that they saw the email notification and is avoiding the message.

Should I file a paypal claim now or give it a few days?

I usually clearly state that the item has no tags and that's that. Also take photos that show a lack of tags, I suppose. Name the series and put down the lolibrary link so buyers can check the details for themselves if they want to.

Although my case is a lot clearer because my untagged items are all from lucky packs, so I can confidently state they came directly from the brand's store, and I have photos of the entire lucky pack's contents, though no buyer has ever asked. I guess you can explain how it came from a a Japanese seller and the series is so old it was before replicas were cool or something like that.

Salopettes only look good on short, extremely thin, young (or young looking), extremely cute girls. Anybody who doesn't fit that criteria should never even consider wearing a salo unless they enjoy looking like a weird fetishist.

I don't think salo coords belong in lolita fashion communities or in lolita tags, even if they're brand. Salos aren't lolita.

Bigger waist measurements. Salos are often meant to be loose or sit at the hips, and quite often they actually look looser than skirts. Apparently once you hit a certain size, there’s so little clothing ever available to you, past that size fatties just buy clothes that they can squeeze into, and not clothes that actually look good.

There’s also the thing where a lot of them are aware they’re fat — and thinks everyone hates them for being fat. They might legit think all the negative comments thrown their way is because of their weight and not because they do genuinely look shitty. So they genuinely have no idea how shit they look, they just write it all down to “skinny girl privilege”.

The part that gets me is that if you can fit into an AP salo, there’s a bunch of other brands out there that will fit you much better while not making you look like an overstuffed pig in pastel giftwrap — Triple Fortune, Metamorphose, Physical Drop, EE. But no, the fatties don’t want these brands because they’re fat-girl brands. Apparently it appeals to their ego to look fat and ugly in some “skinny girl” brand that’s too small for them, rather than wear a “fat girl” brand that might actually look proportionate on them. Sometimes I really wonder whether there’s something wrong with their heads that makes them make horrible life choices or something.

None of the brands you mentioned have the status AP has, which I think a lot of people care about. It's great, you just order and usually get it within the week depending on your country. Much better than waiting days for stuff to arrive at tenso and get cleared by them, then waiting for them to ship it out. The people that handle baby's overseas orders are great too, they usually get my payment and email me back instantly, a lot of the time they give me a tracking number in under an hour of getting my payment too and I get my stuff in 3 days tops.

Point systems are kinda redundant to me anyway, they never really amount to much overall and I tend to buy most of my new brand (that I don't reserve) during end of season sales, so nothing's really even eligible for points. Having said that I did get one of Baby's loyalty cards when I went to Japan last year which is a nice souvenir to have at least.

>>9711146
I think it really depends on your timezone. I'm 3-4 hours different to Japan so if I order something on say, a Friday night I'll usually get the stock confirmation email by Monday afternoon. Turnover for invoices is usually the next business day for me but if your time zone means you order in the middle of the night there it'll probably decrease your chances of getting what you want. If you order on the weekend it's kind of a gamble regardless of where you live though.

To answer your question about release schedules, I just wait to see other girls who reserved post their stuff on twitter and instagram. Unless a specific piece gets delayed due to high demand (which is usually specified on individual listings) it's a pretty good guide to see when new series about to go in stock. Then I'll check the site religiously until they come out and am usually pretty fast, but again the time zones probably work in my favour. The cuts/colours you choose also are a factor. I buy a lot of skirts which are unpopular so they never seem to sell out, but the nicer jsk cuts sometimes do or releases get delayed.

Doing this within a comm is awkward enough, posting about it in an international page (where many people might not even be lolitas) is even worse. I mean, I understand wanting to find people you relate to but health issues are incredibly personal and imo best kept to conversations between friends.

Anti-smalltalk anon, do you consider your entire comm to be close friends to you? If not, your personal conversation topics can be extremely alienating, because of the expectation of reciprocation. When you share something personal, there's an inherent expectation (even though you don't perceive it) felt by the listener to share just as much information about themselves, and for most people, you don't do that when you first meet someone, or if that person is not close and trusted. I wouldn't be okay hearing about your awful personal history, I wouldn't want to share negative personal things until they become socially relevant and necessary. I'll absolutely talk about an experience that I had with a recipe gone awry or a mishap with a dress, but I'm not going to tell you about how I was sexually harassed or how I got a nasty text from a parent begging for money, that's not fair to you.
I'm all for small talk until I'm closer to someone. It's way easier to scratch the surface by asking about trivial interests so that I can maybe find one or two common interests to discuss for a while, and then maybe start talking about less socially frictionless topics.

Just because you enjoy making people uncomfortable doesn't mean everyone else should.

This literally makes no sense. I could be biased because I actually love the print and those types of accessories but even if these accessories aren't popular in the West, doesn't mean they aren't cute. Good for people like me who like the print and snag it for a good price.

Well what the fuck am I supposed to say when everyone asks me why I'm not going home for Christmas to see my dad? Because its rude to say he's a pedo- that is the impression I've been given by most people. Not just Lolitas.

People love talking politics in my comm too! I never shut them down but extreme topics like a death in the family is just too much? Its mind boggling where everyone draws the line. And sometimes you don't get to find out where people draw the line until its too late and they feel awkward.

But lets be real. Feeling awkward at a tea party isn't the worst thing in the world. Maybe that's why I find it hard to have sympathy for people who can't handle hearing things they don't want to.

>lolita meets are for talking about the clothing and the lifestyle and fun, superficial shit.
The meets I go to are for discussing shitty normie Netflix sitcoms and memes from fb and reminiscing about being emo in high school
Its not even that they're superficial, they're just boring and god forbid anyone mention something out of the ordinary

Just fucking say you don't have a good relationship with your parents and prefer not to spend time with them you retard WTF. There's being real and there's oversharing because you don't know how to keep the lid on your goddamn spaghetti. I don't know the social etiquette of the country or area you live in but there's some things that are just awkward to talk about. If a close comm member/friend said something like that to me maybe I wouldn't feel awkward but if a stranger or someone that I only share like, one interest in with said that to me I'd definitely feel a little uncomfortable; it's information I don't care to know about if I don't know you well, even if it is an honest answer. Sorry, but that's the truth.

My mother has a lot of mental issues that she takes out on me and my father, but when acquaintances I don't know well ask about her I don't go into detail about her batshit antics, the odd behavior she has, the strange things she says to me, the screaming matches she and I get into, because no one gives a shit. All I have to say is "Oh, my mother and I don't have a good relationship" and people understand.

There's a difference between talking about serious topics and oversharing personal information best left for people you have a closer rapport with.

That's what I do or I just say I can't talk about it because I literally can't talk about it because assholes like you exist.

I'm just venting about how I can't just talk about myself normally. I think people should be allowed to talk about themselves. Sorry the fucking pearl clutchers can't handle it.

It's just tactless to talk about such personal shit with people you aren't close to, who don't love you and empathize with you like a friend or family member. You probably end up coming across as an edgelord who uses every opportunity possible to talk about themselves in way too much detail. Like "oh you think your shit sucks? MY life is WAY worse, listen to this" and then the conversation is either derailed to being all about you with people you aren't even close to, or the conversation dies because you are talking to people who cannot relate and have no goddamn idea what to say. Yeah smalltalk is boring and vapid as fuck but that doesn't mean that in order to have meaningful interactions with other people you need to talk about that miscarriage you had at 17 that made you miss out on going to MIT (an example of a real story overshared with me from someone I had spent like 4 hours total interacting with).

NYART but its not that anyone cant handle it, its just that we'd rather not. Sure, I'm not going to get offended or disgusted by someone oversharing but I wish they just wouldn't fucking do it, because frankly I dont really care and it upsets the atmosphere. Unless it *actually* comes up in conversation, and I mean your conversation genuinely and organically becomes deep and meaningful - then just dont fucking say it. We don't want your snowflake ass at tea trying to be so ~unique~ and ~edgy~ by overly sarcastically blurting out "yeah well I WOULD visit my father for christmas if he weren't a PEDOPHILE" to anyone within earshot, so please just save it.

Please, get over yourself.

You're going to go to meets and be an autist to everyone there, and you're gonna why these horrible stuck-up bitches don't want to have ~honest~ conversations, thinking there's something wrong with them - but I promise, it's not them, it's you. And it's not because they can't handle it, or because they're too scared to talk about things like this, it's because they don't give a shit when it's coming from someone they don't care about on the same level as a good friend or close family member. No one wants to be forced to handle a person they barely know's personal baggage, and oversharing does exactly that with people who, first off, probably don't even deserve or have the privilege of needing to know the information you're trying to share, and second, simply do not want to put the emotional labor in to care.

That's truth, friendo, and I'm sorry if it upsets you, but if you actually want to make friends in your comm this is how it's going to work; that's simply how this socializing shit works. I'm not even saying that "my dad is a pedophile" is something that should never be talked about ever, but it's a conversation piece that is something that the majority of people don't want to just casually talk about with someone they don't know well.

Did you not see my comment? I don't actually bring the stuff up. No one in my comm even knows who I am. But the annoying part is they can't know who I am. I can't make friends in my comm because no one can ever know about my fucking life. That's why I'm pissed.

Because lolita is all about having "etiquette" and being lovely all the time.

See, you're the kind of person I'd never even want to talk to. Being a victim of something that will literally ruin your life is not exactly relatable and it freaks people out. When people ask me what I'm doing for the holidays, I just say I'm spending it with my boyfriend but then everyone talks about their family.

Do you have any idea how awkward it is to go to a fucking high quality Japanese nail salon and not being able to explain to the nice Japanese lady why I can't talk to my family? I don't get my fucking nails done anymore because of it. It literally just makes my life sad and no one wants to bother with me because I'm weird and I mysteriously can't say why I don't talk to my family because everyone else and their precious fucking ears.

>>9712788
>You're going to go to meets and be an autist to everyone there
Except I don't. I just wish I could talk about my life without it being fucking awful for other people. And no, I will not get over it. It is something that effects every part of my life. Do you have any idea how hard it is during a job interview? No, you do not. You only care about social behaviors and how to act appropros. I might as well just lie to everyone I meet to not seem like a retard.

>Because lolita is all about having "etiquette" and being lovely all the time.

Literally no one said this. This has to do with social cues which will affect comm life by default just for the fact that it's a goddamn social group. You're right, I do care about social behaviors, because we're all humans that have grown up with cultures and social norms.

This will sound like I'm being mean or sarcastic but it's a legitimate question, but do you see a therapist ? I get that something like this is will undeniably be apart of your life but you're nitpicking ways to get angry that you can't just talk about it. Why is it that you feel you need to be able to talk about it with others so much? What is it that you're trying to get out of sharing this with people, especially strangers? What is it that you're looking for out of being this honest with strangers who likely will not even be sure how to respond? Even just the fact that you're getting this upset over it on an anonymous message board - why? What exactly is it that you are trying to gain, and is it worth doing within the scenarios that you're talking about on here? I'm not asking you to answer these questions, but they're something you may want to think about. If it's because you're trying to come to terms with yourself, forcing other strangers to help you carry this baggage (and that's exactly what it feels like when someone you don't know well enough tells you deeply personal information unexpectedly) isn't going to work if they don't want to hold it in the first place. Someone else like a therapist is going to be more suited to helping you work through that.

No one is telling you to lie about your life. I'm not sure why this is hard for you to understand. It's ~inappropriate~ for you to talk about with *people you don't know very well* in the same way that I might be comfortable talking about my sexual habits or the nasty shit I took on the toilet with my friends, but not my coworkers.

You sound out of touch with the world lol. Maybe you were projecting when you assumed the other anons have no friends just because they don't enjoy smalltalk. Irl people ask you about your family all the time, especially about your parents. Even if you give a vague answer like "oh I'm not that close with my parents" and "I'm spending it with my boyfriends family" they will ask about it again, or act like they're also not close to their family because their mom washed something wrong, and then they expect you to find that so relatable. The only way to fit in and not make people uncomfortable is to lie desu.

I'm not the anon that said that but either way, I don't know where you live but people definitely don't ask me about my family enough to warrant me telling them the full detail if my crappy relationship with them. Not even my religious trad family oriented manager. You're really just making up excuses to be mad at this point.

>because we're all humans that have grown up with cultures and social norms.
I don't know where you live but where I live it's ridiculous because everyone grows up with different backgrounds but only some backgrounds are ok to talk about. Hence why this subject pisses me the fuck off.

I've seen a few therapists and they all just push drugs. I gave up after the third one. I also have two friends who are psychologists who I have slowly lost touch with because we have less and less in common these days. Plus one of them was working to rehabilitate young boys who have sexually assaulted someone (or more) in the past.

I've never felt baggage from people telling me their personal stuff. I don't know what that mentality is. Sorry.

Like >>9713129
said - a lot of normies love to talk about family and what people do for the holidays and a lot of normies don't understand why someone wouldn't be speaking with their family - but here I am, I can't explain it because the poor normie will have the same fucking awful reaction you seem to be having.

>No one is telling you to lie about your life.
Except I still have to because it's my only option. Anon. I don't get my fucking nails done anymore because the lovely Japanese woman didn't understand why I can't talk to my family and I couldn't tell her why. She's like the best fucking nail artist but it's too fucking awkward.

Please understand why I would be livid with having to deal with people like you all the fucking time.

lmao sounds like you're literally fucking autistic because you can't put your feelings aside that not everyone will understand or give a shit that you have problems in life. People don't exactly like to bring negativity into their lives unless they're fucking doormats with helper syndrome. Get over yourself and be happy with the small group of friends you do have that you can talk about the heavy stuff with and lighten the fuck up.
