I agree with >>9684052 that that's probably a brooch or something. Proportions suggest it's tiny (I've never seen gimp braid that wide) and I think the thing underneath it is a rosette.
Maybe you can commission one from LotV or something? She has pie berets on her Etsy, maybe she can make a hat too.

i dont own a single hat in my lolita wardrobe. id like to maybe get a beret but i just feel weird and insecure in hats for some reason
i want to do an old school usakumya coord next halloween because i missed out this year with work. i was thinking all white with pink bows where usas bows are, full baby coord, and a bonnet with rabbit ears. should i try to look for something pic related or does anyone have a better recommendation? i want it to be the most usakumya coord anyones ever seen.

The frames are usually sold separately from the cover, which you put on over the frame to give it shape. If you want I could take pictures of one of mine for reference, but it's somewhere in the back of my closet with the rest of my uniform items.

So right now I have the dress blue cover on it, since it was always a pain in the ass to change out the fabric covers, and you could always wear the piss cutter with your service uniform instead of the peaked cap.

Yeah, the screw post on the EGA goes through an eyelet in the fabric cover and through the metal bracket on the front. And the metal band expands which makes it easier to take the fabric cover off and put it back on.

I actually made my own frame out of cheap plastics once for a steampunk outfit, unlike a proper frame tho, I didn't connect the crown-frame to the rest of the hats frame.

I’m not sure, but they remind me of the kind of headdresses that were originally meant to secure caps to the head and developed into something more decorative and less functional over time, until people started to wear them by themselves. Historically, women in coastal fishing villages in my area would wear starched caps that covered their hair and were secured by heavily reinforced bands which were then hidden by strips of lace and embroidered fabric, depending on the woman’s social and economic status. I think maid headdresses have a similar origin but again, I’m not sure. Either way, lolita headdresses are probably inspired by cute maid headdresses rather than salty fisherwomen lol
