>Will panel acceptances ever come out?

Probably the fuck not. I can't believe the horseshit I'm reading that they're nowhere near done. They're 'hoping' to be done by October 10th. It's bad enough to release a schedule that late let alone give the panelists three weeks notification. Was there a change in panel staff or are they always this bad?

>> No.9646888

>>9646878
I don't know if there was much change in staff, but this isn't new for Youma. We're lucky if the schedule comes out a week before the con, and spoiled if it's printed on something nicer than newspaper.
I really feel for people who submitted panels though. To either have such a short time to write a whole panel, or be working all this time on it only to find out you were rejected.

I've never competed in the cosplay contest in the 7 years I've been going but I wanted to give it a shot this year.
None of the organizers or facebook page admin has any info on how or when to apply to compete.
Anyone competed before who can tell me how these usually run, and what day/time/location I need to go to apply to compete? Does it cost money?

Okay so last year was an issue. I believe the budget was cut midway through the planning phase or something and so the low priority stuff (tournaments) was scrapped. I stepped in and hired streamers/ran it myself, that's why everything was ran on tables with projectors just facing a wall. It was a total no-budget affair.

This year I thankfully don't have to do that. Trying to stream AND run tournament brackets took years off my life.

If you're talking about the unofficial facebook group (the big one) they don't know because they're unofficial and don't work for youmacon. Last year they had a sign up table on one of the upper floors in the ren cen, next to where they sold the maid cafe and formal dance tickets. You fill out a slip and sign up for a judging time slot and whether you want to participate in the masquerade. It doesn't cost anything. I'm pretty sure the information for how to sign up was printed in the program booklet.

If you're in the masq, its usually on saturday evening, you gotta be there like an hour or two before and then you're there till the end of the comp. it's definetly a big time suck and doesn't leave a lot of time for friends, but if you really wanna compete it's not terrible. However, we are glad to have what little representation we do, even though j-fashion is only gaining popularity throughout anime communities so it only makes sense that we should have more programming oriented towards it. >> No.9657328

Youmacon claims to be about anime, video games AND Japanese culture. So it's quite understandable why the Lolita comm would be upset by being damn excluded. Other cons do a better job at including the Japanese culture aspect than Youmacon has over the years. Which is a shame because they definitely have the money to get guests that fit within what they claim to be. As for the panels, it's pretty sad they shy away from on topic things. I'm personally tired of all the cringy panels they keep approving.

you sound like you have a vendetta against the comm and are trying to make the entire comm look bad. it’s very frustrating because GLL is so welcoming and kind. nobody in the comm judges on clothes and money, but they’re also not going to just tell you that your non lolita outfit is lolita. one of the mods is a mostly handmade lolita and is highly respected and well loved so I don’t even know where this “brand elitism” accusation is coming from, it’s just not true.

It's just the panelists who don't even wear lolita who refuse to believe that the one's an ita who doesn't know god damn about the fashion, and the other's a cosplayer just trying to get a free badge.

They're the only ones who came into the comm name calling and cussing anyone out who questioned the legitimacy of their panel and knowledge. The one's who were just immediately saying "KICK ME THE FUCK OUT THEN U ELITIST SNOBS" because they didn't want to admit they don't know what they're talking about.

What's wrong with shopping at a thrift store for cosplay? I can't say anything about Lolita since I don't know anything about it, but I can't see the harm in shopping there if you are doing a cosplay that doesn't demand a lot of smaller details.

I'm one of the anons from above that made a comment about that. For a closet cosplay it's fine I'm sure! Things like suits etc. However, I guess you could think of Lolita like Sakizou cosplay, or think a character with a big detailed dress. It's not something you'd find at a thrift store. You could make it if you had the skill though, which is the same with Lolita. There are lots of celebrated handmade exclusive lolitas.

You two should be ashamed of yourselves. Instead of admitting you made a mistake, you've set out to drag people through the mud who've done nothing but be helpful and kind to you. You keep demanding why the comm hasn't done more for you and yet you've done nothing to contribute yourself. It's a group of ordinary individual people who give their time and effort answering your questions and organizing meets because they love the fashion and care about the people in the comm, it's not a business or an institution. You've acted incredibly childish, especially if you think you're really 'anonymous' when you post this stuff on 4chan. We all know who it is.

it's not elitist though. Quality things cost money, and that's the truth of the world for everything, not just for lolita. No one here is saying that you can only wear expensive brand to be considered a lolita - there are lots of discussions on this board about indie designers and bodyline. Lots of people recommend buying secondhand to avoid the costs of buying all new brand. But this isn't a fashion where a $60 dress from Hot Topic is going to look the same as a $200 dress from a lolita designer, because the materials, the design, and the manufacturing are going to be very different. By all means, buy that $60 hot topic dress and if you find a way to rock it, more power to you. Even on this board, few people are going to judge you based on where you got your dress, as long as your coord looks good. But it's just a lot harder to make cheap and poorly made dresses look good, so that's probably why it comes across as elitist to you. But that's an unavoidable aspect of a fashion centered around fine material and details, and it's not meant to be any personal jab at you that cheap dresses look worse. I'm not even a lolita and this seems obvious to me.

I can just see it now, as soon as the room fills, they'll open the panel with some bitter chatter about "elitist bitches" trying to ruin their fun time, and skirt around naming names as they complain about actual active members in the lolita community.

I haven’t heard anyone actually wanting to do a walkout, the consensus in the comm seems to be conflict on whether to attend to support Lolita programming (even if there’s a high chance it’ll be awful) or not attend to not support this panelist and to avoid youmacon thinking this panel was successful.

The panelists have basically burned bridges with the entire comm, so I think there’s also interest in going to see if they try to shit talk the comm or how they react to comm members attending (if they even realize since they were not really active members and don’t know anyone)

Her panel's been pretty well received at most conventions I've seen it run at, and she's well respected in the comm from what I know. The "new" panelist basically lifted the description and title from her panel and put the application in first, and I think that's the only reason why they got it. Youmacon is not a convention that cares about quality - everything is first-come-first-served. It's uncalled for to call her petty when she has every right to feel upset. And I know what the response to this is gonna be - no, I'm not her, I'm not even a lolita. I'm just someone who keeps up on stuff like this.

Its lolita 101. How unique of a description can it be. The real test will be is she copying the content. I think new people doing panels is good, as long as they know what they are talking about. Florida and the new england area has no variety. Its the same people with the same ideas. Thats why I say lets see. The only troubling thing is this girl had a ton of panels approved. Nayrt but I'm also not a lolita and think the drama surrounding this is a little self-inflicted.
Not only did she dupe the original panel name&description, but this new host apparently doesn't even participate in the subculture which should kind of be a requirement if you want to host a panel that educates people on the fashion in the first place.

One of the two new panelists isn't even a lolita and has never worn the fashion. I definitely don't think the original panelist is upset at having to "buy a badge like everyone else", she's upset about her passion being smeared by someone like the new panelists, and worried about how it's going to reflect on the whole Great Lakes Lolita community.

There's rumors that billy west is gonna cancel too, which was a huge reason as to why I wanted to go this year

The post on fb has hit 100 shares seriously I hope he gets banned from other cons that’s not something you should just get away with especially all of the evidence against him.

If anyone sees San make sure to ask him “How old are you again”

Knew the guy through mutual friends and followed him on his social medias. Dude's posts alternate between talking like he's hot shit and whining about how life is unfair to him. He also apparently rarely pays for cons and mooches off people for rooms and badges

There's a big ass thread about tipping people in service jobs, and this tool struts in saying we should be tipping cosplayers.

Christ. If you can't afford to pay your bills and cosplay I guess it's time to stop cosplaying.

Hah, I recalled him posting about going to the gym. About 2-3 days later he goes off saying he's a body builder, and how he has a karate man body or some shit. Dude is delusional af.

In large cities people dress up as characters and you pay for pictures. If cosplayers want the same thing they should wear a sign. I understand the thought process but no one asked you to dress up. Kinda killing all the fun.
I think these last comments are trying to send youma bad vibes. I havent decided if im going but for those who do have fun. We have a large theatre district if the con goers arent "cool" enough.

So I'm fine with cosplayers having a Ko-Fi page and things like that. But asking for tips for pictures? That's a straight up line in the sand. Fuck this guy.

The idea that "cosplayers got bills" and "cosplay is an expensive hobby" is what drives me up a tree.

By his logic cosplayers should be giving ME a dollar when I take their picture. I'll take that dollar and put it towards new lenses and better equipment, making better photos for them. I mean, I got bills too, gimme that dollar.
