still no fursuiting horror stories edition
Post fursuit/mascot pics, questions, stories and anything else fursuit related.

Frequently asked questions:
>How much is a new suit
Expect to pay at least 2k for a fullsuit commission, 3k+ for something padded, and higher if a realistic suit. Heads typically go for 400-1k, partials 900-1.5k.
>Where to buy second hand?
https://www.furbuy.com/
https://www.thedealersden.com/
occasionally the 'fursuit' tag on furaffinity.
>What about Japanese suits?
list of makers and other relevant kemono suit info
https://www.furaffinity.net/journal/6993893/
>fur supplies?
Fabric.com and fursuitingsupplies.com, Mendels if you want higher-quality stuff. Also try "I'm Stuffed Fur" and "CR Crafts"
>Foam?
I usually buy mine in bulk off Amazon.
High density for heads, med/low for body/padding.
You can get decent discounts from jo-anns as well.
>How to clean?
I prefer handwashing with woolite. Don't use a dryer unless it has a cool setting, you'll melt the fur.

That cute bunny suit someone mentioned was on Dealer's Den is also on Furbuy. I don't understand why people think they can have multiple auctions for the same item on multiple platforms. But neither site seems to have any real moderation so I actually tend to see this happen a lot.

the hostile attitude and the :^) face are a good start, especially when they're in response to a fairly innocuous question.
It's not fun to have your threads constantly bumped off the catalog when a general thinks they need multiple threads to spam pictures in.
It also goes with the fact that people think a high number of posts and a high thread count mean everything that's weird.

Overall, it really just seems like you're out to shove your fetish in other people's faces and makes as many threads as possible so you can say "fuck the people who don't like what I like :^)".

This was my first fursuit and it's a german shepherd. I tilted my head down so not the best pose with it. I'm aware I need to give it a trim and I learned alot making the whole damn thing. The head took me the longest, probably a good 3-4 months of me just stopping, checking reference photos, and adjusting. I watched alot of youtube videos, checked out other fursuits, and just tried to research as much as possible. I also help run a con so that ate up alot of my time. The body, legs, feet and hand paws took me about 2 months and I literally just worked on them every single chance I got. I'd bring it over to friends' houses and just handsew/pattern while chatting.

Yeah, this was semi-recent (my memory is failing me, maybe last year) but they bought Arito’s Dorito suit and soon after there was a noticeable change in their digitigrade leg styles. Apparently they even raised the price because of it. People called them out and even Arito approached them where they admitted to the ‘heavy referencing’/copying. Dorito is now owned by Syber but it doesn’t really change what SVC did wrong. Wasn’t so much the referencing as it was them profiting off of someone else’s work and claiming it as their own

I dont think anyone here hates that the shit exists (well maybe some do) but what they REALLY hate is that the fucking faggots take their filthy semen suits out onto the con floor and hug kids and touch things and are just a walking furcondom in general.

yeah I really do understand it. I like most of the designs. I just hate that since they become so unavailable, the prices skyrocket. I'd rather they just like. take normal commissions for 'natural' designs or have pre-made commission designs? I don't know.

>> No.9670123

>>9670114
The problem with only having pre-made designs is creative differences between suits is going to drop even farther than it already is to having every suit be even more of a recolour of each other then they already are. Injecting the commissioners preferences into the mix helps alleviate that greatly if the maker's willing to put forth the effort to try new things. One or two people creating designs, even if they're actively trying not to, can only go so far.

Fuuuck that was me, I'm sorry dude here you go.
This is just a rough outline of what you're going to want to do if you want those legs as accurate as possible. The most important thing I can emphasize is that these need to be as strong as possible. If you think they're strong enough? They're not. Double the thickness of any areas that are gonna take stress like that join between metal pieces that are behind your heel and where the metal bar meets the little foot-claw platform. Just really, really reinforce those spots. And then once you've gotten this part made and you feel like you can wear them safely then you can add on top of them with foam for the actual costume part. The claw feet you can just spray the metal with spray insulation foam and carve it into the shape you want.

I know this is super limited in what I'm explaining but there's alot here to cover and I'm not sure what you know and don't know; if you have more questions just ask but hopefully that'll get you started.

there's been a lot of issues with them lately.

i know someone who commissioned them a body + feet for a partial they had bought off someone else. they initially said it'd take 2-3 months.. it ended up taking 5, with absolutely 0 wip shots and little to no communication.
when they finally sent her the commission, they forgot to mail the feet paws with it.

i own a partial from them, and while i love it, i definitely don't recommend them anymore. they have a lot more people working for them and yet their quality and communication has dropped significantly.
with that said, if you want to buy a pre-made from them and like it- go for it! their vision and ventilation is wonderful, i can suit for 5 hours without needing a break which is pretty much a godsend. you can fit glasses inside too which is a big plus too

I altered the head a little bit actually to make the head more presentable from the side, that's probably why!
they do this weird thing with the dimples(? I guess. the area right where the mouth ends and creates the smiley look). they added some sort of shading almost to bring out the dimples more. it looks bad. like really bad. so I changed that area and flattened it a little.
I'd say it's almost necessary for their heads

The truth is, the money is crap, and the market might change someday or become saturated with the same style of suit. >Hey! I'd like to submit a post about Autumn Fallings, they're screwing over a customer and cancelling their unstarted commission spot, the only reason being that they didn't want to be friends with the commissioner anymore. That reminds me, that Mordrude lady wants to go into sfx eventually, but with her being a super lifestyler that throws a hissy fit if people "disrespect" fursonas and costumes, I don't think she'd last. I mean, the industry routinely replaces practical effects work with CG mid-production. It sucks, but you have to deal with it. Would she and people like her throw a tantrum?
So that's the biggest question, are enough hardcore "pro" furries mature enough to work outside the fandom? It seems to me they're at the same level as your youtube streamers and anime con booth sellers. There are some great artists out there, but the fields are often seen as highly unprofessional as a whole.

yeah I remember her old cosplay IP. but what I meant by lately was that the business as a whole was pretty good up until around last year. it's weird how once they start hiring more people things get worse. a noticeable drop in quality is likely due to trainees making suits and not the original people. but man. they need to step up a bit before they become another 'avoid at all costs' maker.

Yeah at the end of the day a lot of makers just kind of steal from each other, but there have been times that I mistook one maker's suit from another. SVC is stands out the most from the ones I listed.

I'm definitely not opposed to western suits but a lot of them are a bit overpriced to look so "same-y". I find collab suits to usually have a more unique look to them and are more justified to be pricey.

I guess it's a part of everyone improving as a whole. at least they still offer their older styles- i think the reason we see so many angry suits from those makers right now is because they're getting to the point in there queue where the sudden burst of interest happened for that kind of style.
I really want a SVC suit but god, I can't get over the dorito thing. I just LOVE their corgi so much and I can't quite find a maker who has that same spark for me. i've seen so many other suits that have 'close' styles but I just keep going back to svc. god dammit, morals.

Purely for my own personal preferences, I'd say four for the head, but four or five's ear placement might be better for actual use in convention halls and such, easier to avoid slapping people with the ears set back as opposed to straight out to the side if they get too close to your head to try to talk to you.

I get why sometimes people are like 'no refunds, ever'. But this is quite the entitledment.

I've looked into getting similar / identical linear actuators for similar purposes (Well, identical purposes + articulation for other things) and I thought they were way too expensive for what you're getting. I barely want to know what it was for two of 'em.
Do you have any stability issues with it fully extended with the lower joint rotated at 180°+? I've noticed leavers like that get kinda floppy when they're out that far so I avoided doing that when I built folding wings myself.
>Anyone knows of any fursuits with powered wings?
Only really seen manually articulated ones, probably for the aforementioned cost reasons.

>> No.9672458

>>9672450
This actuator was literally 40$ on amazon, 17cm bar length. I positioned it upside down for the stability issue, and it should not wobble at all when its completely extended, plus the wings will be folded when the actuator extended, which helps a lot!
When the wings are in full span, the actuator cannot wobble or break at all since it's actually retracted. I think this design will help it a lot for cheaper actuators and also because you only need one actuator that is in the most stable position you can have. I did a lot of research on that and it's probably the best position you can get it, both for stability and for your own comfort (weight and weight distribution).
It's only on the ground right now and I won't test it up right yet since its inbalanced on one side + the joints are not glued yet. I need to print all the other joints first and make the other side and glue everything together well.

I'll probably make it a little less extended, the joints are now overextending too much as you can see which can indeed lead to instability on the wings itself. Since I plan to use the frame for 3 different suits/cosplays I think 40$ is definitely a right investment. The rest is cheap shock resistant pvc pipes and a couple 3d prints on my own chinese printer.

I had a quick look through (american) amazon, and the cheaper options are still ~$60. Better than the $100+ options I was seeing elsewhere, but still entirely impractical for getting enough for what I want to do with them.
Even for multi use, it's good that you found a decent solution. On that though, I can attest to how much of a pain it is to get the articulating frame in and out of the wing(s), so with you intending to reuse them, definitely take ease of attachment / insertion and removal into account when you make the costume part it goes into.

Not a fan of the responsiveness of that kind of set up, have to spin a servo several times to move a relatively small amount. Strong, but slow.
>Pulleys and a drill motor
That'd be a idea, if I could fit all of the pulleys and drill motors in the tiny area I have to work with.
I like the idea of having as little of the weight be on the wing armature as possible, 'cause I want to have moving fingers/thumb on each wing also, and I can effectively mount the servo & initial syringe anywhere, so I get a lot more mounting options.
Plus a large number of servos + syringes are way cheaper than other options. Might bight the bullet with the joint that's holding the majority of the weight and get linear actuators for them, but that's it.

They are scary and as much as I hate generalizing they have no manners at all. You can usually see very little of the person inside it and on the top of that they think it's okay to hug without asking. Apparently speaking will break the appearance?

Is it me or is there a clear discrepancy in quality between a lot of these suits. Like Rady is still the first thing people think of when they mention k line but imo the only one that comes close is the fox on the left.

And the studio members left after the photo shoot? Why even travel all that way to a con as a business if you're just gonna leave asap???

Yea, it’s always an issue. I won’t photograph or pose with anyone that’s a confirmed murrsuiter. I keep pictures/clips of them out of my con videos. If they ask for picture with my suit, I say no. I’m not interested in looking like I’m a fan of/friends with any fuck suit.

It’s disgusting to mislead someone into interacting with your fetish item. There’s no way for children or parents to know either. You can find plenty of pictures of CosmicWoofy with kids around him. How disrespectful.

I would steer clear of Mithical. She doesn’t even credit the artists when she uses a premade base. That alone isn’t awful but she’s been called out a few times for poor customer service. I could probably find the review a customer did of a similar mask recently. They weren’t very happy with what they received.

This suit is a what? It’s unique.

I guess I should specify that I was able to keep the suit on for over an hour, it was the head that was giving me problems. I think I need to install a fan for sure. But even then, it's not something that I would ever wear during the summer months when most conventions happen.

I can wear my suit for around 5 hours (partial) before needing to remove it, mine has a fan installed inside and very good ventilation from the mouth and eyes. you can also install hidden vents inside noses like in the pic related and I think some makers do it in ears too.
