This board is too slow edition
Post fursuit/mascot pics, questions, stories and anything else fursuit related.

Frequently asked questions:
>How much is a new suit
Expect to pay at least 2k for a fullsuit commission, 3k+ for something padded, and higher if a realistic suit. Heads typically go for 400-1k, partials 900-1.5k.
>Where to buy second hand?
https://www.furbuy.com/
https://www.thedealersden.com/
occasionally the 'fursuit' tag on furaffinity.
>What about Japanese suits?
list of makers and other relevant kemono suit info
https://www.furaffinity.net/journal/6993893/
>fur supplies?
Fabric.com and fursuitingsupplies.com, Mendels if you want higher-quality stuff. Also try "I'm Stuffed Fur" and "CR Crafts"
>Foam?
I usually buy mine in bulk off Amazon.
High density for heads, med/low for body/padding.
You can get decent discounts from jo-anns as well.
>How to clean?
I prefer handwashing with woolite. Don't use a dryer unless it has a cool setting, you'll melt the fur.

The only con near me is Califur, and that con is run by creepy old lifestylers. A lot of people I talk to say it's a shit con full of creepers and it's now in the middle of nowhere and has a paltry attendance, despite SoCal having so many furs. I guess everyone goes to FC/BLFC instead. At least I have all the LA anime cons.
You know how irrelevant a convention is when it's located dozens of miles away from the fandom's average population center in the region. MFF is at the O'Hare convention center as a comparison, very central. If I had to guess, I'd say Califur will disappear within a few years.
This all sucks, though, since I want to go to a con that's somewhere nearby that isn't just a Geek/Anime convention, since my suits are big and I can't travel too far from grad school due to research obligations and a lack of a car due to outrageous parking costs (fucking $120 a month if you want a guaranteed spot!). Maybe after I graduate I can meet all you fuzzies at BLFC or something.
Anyway, have an outrageously adorable Disney Donkey from The Three Caballeros.

Califur used to be in in Orange County, now it's in some fairgrounds near Riverside/San Bernardino, and takes place late May/early June when it gets hot there. Meanwhile, Anime Expo has grown like melanoma and the even the massive LA con center is too small for it. They may need to start doing ticket lotteries like SD Comic Con.

Would it be feasible that with the parts that are different between the two ("Wig" and different horns, wings, extra leg and arm fluff, larger leg and arm spurs and slightly different tail) you could make a suit that could be either depending on what you have/don't have attached?

>> No.9663086

>>9663082
Hmm that's such an interesting idea! I think it would be feasible, it's definitely possible to switch out the tail, wings, horns on the head, the 'beard', and the 'wig'.
I am not entirely sure about the extra fluff on the arms and legs, but I think you can do it if you hide magnets in the short pile fur, and simply put a 'cushion' of long pile fur on top clicking to the magnets.
What project would that be, damn...

Found this searching online. I've been really indecisive with a suit project, going back and forth between Zorua and Flammie, though both will end up having a lot of issues (Zorua is a quadsuit, and Flammie has a hard-to-nail face shape...get it wrong and the suit will be ugly). Florida bro hello! Megaplex is making a bad move with this new hotel. A lot of rumors of people not returning will hurt attendance. The hotel was assbackwards layout-wise for suiting. The water tasted....fucking weird even for Florida. The timing is terrible for rain and heat. Just overall sucks. Me and Mordrude, but mostly because she got away with scamming a customer out of a 5-year delayed commission, only giving a partial refund and selling the unfinished head to her patreon supporters. And yet all the popumakers don’t care. Mordrude’s reason? Project reminded her too much of her “abusive” ex.
Personal beef was because she banned me from her telegram over not respecting fursonas enough. Says the person who sold someone's fursona in commissioned form.
Honesty, I think she’s borderline and a general nutcase, stay away. As it stands she has a two year-unfinished indiegogo project for a suitmaking book that’ll probably never be finished. Where did the money go? Who knows?!

Furries hope that the popufur status will come to them if they pay money, but they remain losers. Even the popufurs are losers once you go outside the fandom.
What makes me sad is how a suit with a squeaker or one with bedroom eyes is always more popular than one with amazing craftsmanship or a great performance.

>> No.9665622

>>9665598
Eh, owning a well known suit does bring in some level of attention but it's ideally not the reason anyone should buy the costume.
In my case, Natalie's been one of my favorite designs for a very long time and I was willing to pay a good sum to get her just because I never expected to see her go up for sale in the first place.
I imagine if Arito was more active in the fandom the suit would've gone for considerably more than I paid for it, though. In that sense it was lacking some of the popularity factor that stuff like Dante has or as a really out-there hypothetical, if Telephone was to sell her suit by auction.

Also, I'm not hot on squeakers. They're kind of like a one-time cute thing to me and that's it.

Good luck on your driving test this week! If you have to explain to your parents where you want to go I imagine it might be easier to tell them there's an event going on that you wanted to see. Use cosplay of that's easier to explain than fursuiting.
Also if you pass your test I hope you get some pictures with the anon who owns Natalie! Not sure when their next meet up is but they're around in these threads so I'm sure they can tell you when they're next around.

I've got 3 methods to try and convince them so far
1) the far away friend that needs help (unfortunately I'm shit at acting and they can read through my lies, also, they know I have no friends)
2) the long tease (constantly tease them about the"second interest" and when the day finally comes round say that if I don't go, I will never reveal what it it (this might work as they're interested in what I like))

You really wont get much help here because no one will answer you or they just send you to the help thread. Maybe post a pic of the character and consider a costume with a dropped crotch and just plain 'ol foam padding for the legs? Kinda hard to understand exactly what you want without a pic.

I have both, as well as the paid alternatives from Autodesk (but importing them in such a manner as to be rigged with a skeleton so as to be posed is not working correctly), but that is the pose that will be most common, so that is the pose that needs to be most balanced and easiest to do. As for me actually making the costume, that's all on me, was just asking for tips on the legs.

It looks like what you're gonna have to do unfortunately is have your real feet and legs as the legs all the way down up until right about those claw feet thingies. I've seen people use carefully made stilt-legs for wererwolf suits and things but those claw feet are really gonna make it tough. Do you have any metalworking skills that you could make yourself a metal base skeleton (just for the feet) to build on that would also be strong enough for you to stand on?

>> No.9668160

>>9668142
Yes, I do have metalworking skills, but my equipment is limited to welder, grinder, drill press, hammers, hand forms, and cutoff wheel. I've seen vids of some of the warewolf stilts, but all of those seem to be tall.
