I did the same with one of my dream dresses. I received heavily damaged (the package got hit by a storm during the shipping and the rain ruined a great part of the fabric). I made that choice because I wanted to still wear it and I was sure I would never sell it. Now it has a goth vibe (the pink part of the print became dark grey and the red accents stayed red) and I wear it with chiffon over dresses. Again, selling is not an option if you do that.

For me it was JetJ's La Dame et la Licorne in purple.
The print looked so vibrant and rich in every single picture online, but when it arrived, it was quite muted. I realized the coords shots online had been heavily saturated. I still like it because I love unicorns, but it was pretty disappointing. I wouldn't consider it a dream dress anymore.

I own that a lot of it was my expectations. The original release looks like it was some sort of thicker brocade fabric, but it's very possible that they used the same fabric on the rerelease. This is specifically the white/pink version, I don't have any information on the black colorways.

The fabric for the rerelease is very thin, and a lot more shiny than the photos come across. Structurally the dress also feels less sturdy than other aatp I've owned. It doesn't drape as you'd expect from the original images, and in general lacks the luxurious feeling that the original had. So all in all, very disappointing for me.

Last gray CTP I saw sold on Fril for 77.000 yen which is less than 700$ (it didn't go right away, too, hung around for a few weeks). Pink one went on yahoo auctions for 400-something.
So there's another point of reference for you. Wait it out a bit, it's not necessary to throw 2000$ at it when there are good chances to find it for much cheaper.
CTP is not what it used to be, it's not worth 1000-2000$ anymore.
