Is your blouse all black? It might look a bit off with this. I'd suggest white, pink, sax, or black with a white collar instead. Even yellow would be cute, though a bit more difficult to find.

I would actually play with the bronze colouring rather than red. The red only seems like a really tiny part of the print, and it looks more orange to me? I don't think a lot of reds would match it all that well.

>>9655805
I think the design of the dress is really busy, especially in black, so I would honestly just go for plain black tights to balance it out a little bit.

I really like this dress, but I've only worn cupcake before and generally really don't like a-line so I don't want to buy a petti just for this. Do you think it would look alright with a cupcake? (Not poof monster, just regular cupcake.) Thanks guys!

This is kind of a general question rather than a specific coord question, but what are anyone's thoughts on underskirts as a way to stretch your wardrobe? I only have about 15 main pieces at the moment, but a chiffon underskirt could go with about half of my pieces to give me a new look. Should I get one or save my money for more main pieces?

>> No.9656378

>>9656377
I like using underskirts for that, it's basically the only reason I keep skirts in my wardrobe at all because I generally prefer dresses. If it works with many of your pieces you should go for it.

I feel like it might hang a bit off the ends if a bell shaped petti is used, since cupcake has a down turn on the sides and this dress looks like it's slightly on the longer side.
If you already have the measurement and it fits with the petti you've got, I'd say go for it.

But also, maybe you haven't tried the right A-line for you to like? Melikestea might have some decent inbetweens

That's definitely in the back of my mind. I know that matching materials is important (ie a chiffon underskirt an old school cotton dress probably wouldn't look good) but do you think there's anything else that routine keeps underskirts from succeeding?

Like >>9656465 said it depends on the style, but it can depend on other things too like built in pettis or full lining that might give the skirt portion of your dress an odd look when paired with an underskirt. And of course materials matter too, chiffon might clash when paired with things like tulle or torchon lace etc.
I don't agree about underskirts not matching sweet, it highly depends on the underskirt you're using, how you wear it and what you coord it with; it's hard to lay down concrete guidelines for this sort of thing because it depends on a lot of factors and fashion isn't an exact science, more than anything it depends on aesthetic - That is to say, if it looks bad, you shouldn't wear it.

>> No.9656751

>>9655386

If you're doing black legwear, stick to either sheer/lace stuff, or do one of those printed tights that will go grey when you actually wear it.

The dress print already looks grey in your pic, you can see it most obviously in the contrast between the waist tie and the rest of the print, but the ruffles and the collar are also noticeably blacker than the rest of the dress. If you keep adding opaque black stuff, the grey print is going to look out of place. So go for stuff that doesn't look true black, like lace or sheer tights that show your skin colour through them, or digitally printed tights that are done on white base and go grey when you pull them on. You could probably still do black shoes and purse once you take care of the legwear.

I think flower head accessories never really go out of style, flower crowns included. Just make sure it's a nice decent accessory and not a bunch of oversized flowers that add five inches to your height and overpower the rest of you.

>> No.9656761

>>9656413

It isn't necessarily about matching the materials 100%. One of Metamorphose's Antique Bouquet re-releases features chiffon ruffles on the bottom of an old-school style cotton gobelin print (the result isn't necessarily old school, speaking volumes about the fallacies of making sweeping statements about how underskirts will or won't work with particular substyles -- if you can coord an old school dress to look modern, a chiffon underskirt can still work. Even sweet dresses can still work with an underskirt.)

The only thing that seems near-universal to me is whether the skirt merges with the dress or whether it looks like its own seperate entity. The ones where you can tell it's a seperate underskirt tends to look bad, I guess because most people immediately start thinking about hobo bag lady associations, the most common reason to layer everything you own together in one coord is when you're homeless and crazy (and lolita already tends towards a heavily layered look). The dresses where the underskirts look like an extra layer of ruffles on the skirt tends to look much better, maybe because it looks less sloppy when you're coordinated enough that your layering looks like one single dress.

I honestly think that would be really cute especially with the cardigan anon! What kind of wig were you planning to use with it? And I think definitely use lots of pinks and whites in accessorries, especially because your headbow is black too. I’m honestly excited to see your coord.

Also I completely forgot to ask the first time but also for >>9656292 I have no idea what I should be doing for blouses or tights. I’m usually gothic so this is totally new to me. I feel like wine red would look too off, but it would be impossible to match the green, and I shouldn’t want to shoehorn in another colour and seem awkward.

nayrt, I think you're better off looking into classic substyle for ideas. It's just easier to find similar palettes in classic.

So, I'd go for an ivory blouse and tights, brown bag and brown shoes. I think there's some white on the print, which would allow you to add white tights if you prefer. Try to go for lace tights or something textured to add a little interest and look less boring. A small wine hairclip with some mushroom-themed accessories will complete the look.

Or, if it's pretty cold where you are (it's still hot here), you could go for a brown cardia or long-sleeved bolero, and a white dickey or blouse. Then white or ivory tights, maybe wine-coloured shoes and bag. A brown beret with mushroom accessories would look cute and be warm.

That's a very simple OP to coord, pic related is only a small suggestion of a wide range of things you can pick for it.
The socks feature another BTSSB character but it's similar enough to the puppy to match, and judging by the pic, the colors should match as well. The headbow features strawberry lace to match the theme but any black headbow would work just as well, as would a bow in white or a headdress in white/pink. Black shoes would work easily but dark pink ones could be good too.
If you think this through I'm sure you can come up with many more coord ideas too.

I'm pretty new still but I have this dress and I'm not 100% on how to coord it. I feel like a flower crown is a given, but I'm not sure if that's all I can do with it. I haven't really seen anybody wearing it, either. Am I just overthinking it and it's more versatile than what I imagine?

>> No.9657610

>>9657459

I think someone has mentioned the pink is hard to match because it's not the normal pastel pink lolita brands normally put out. Every coord in that colourway that I've seen uses a white blouse. Maybe go with that, white legwear and then match your bag to your shoes and repeat the colour once on your head (ie- a hairclip or something). You could probabl do black or brown shoes/bag/hairclip. I want to suggest gold too, but I'm not sure if it'll clash with the print. For hair, if you don't have the matching headpiece, I'd recommend a floral hairpiece, preferably one that has some matching wine in it (you can detach one of the waist ties when you go shopping so that you can match them irl). Even if you can't find a close match, a group of close-ish wine-coloured flowers with some other white/yellow smaller flowers, glued onto a headband should work fine.

If you want more options than just white blouses (which is actually quite plentiful, you can change up the tone of the outfit by changing from short sleeves to long sleeves, princess sleeves, high neckline to wide neckline, etc etc), I'd suggest taking it straight to a tailors and getting them to make a blouse in the exact pink or wine that matches it.

Same way as you'd get a t-shirt outfit to look HP instantly, throw the wizard cloak and appropriate house scarf over it, maybe add a hotglue DIY wand or an eagle necklace in bronze if you want. It's nothing genius, but since HP is probably in most costume shops right now you can easily get it together by Halloween fast enough without biting your nails waiting for shipping.

>> No.9657619

>>9657561

Overthinking. The blue doesn't seem hard to match, you'd be able to throw on any polyester blue bow, headdress, veil, etc etc. So long as the colours aren't too far off from the dress (and the dress has multiple blues, so that's a lot of leeway to matching), it should be fine. Try to avoid old school style headbows though, the style and the more solid cotton twill weave could look odd on this newer style dress.

I think the official pics for the other jsk doesn't use a flower crown either, it's a veil matched to the blouse.

God I love those shoes.
I'd dial it down on the gold accessories, comes off as a little gaudy, the necklace is fine though.
As for a hair accessory, I think maybe some small wine colored roses with pearl links to the side? The ivory/white of the pearls would bring together the lighter colors in the dress

Thinking of purchasing this dress from Boz, but I'm blanking on blouses it would look good with so I could vary it up. I'll probably have it with a corset 99% of the time as I hate high waist. I can see an off the shoulders blouse looking great with it, maybe a square neck with hime sleeves and it would be a good warm day gothic dress with a jacket on top and blouseless (and that's how Boz coorded it). But...with how awkwardly high the top part is I can't think of a more traditional collar blouse would look alright. I'm probably just not thinking outside the box enough.

Acquired this Honey Honey JSK but am not really sure what style of blouse to pair with it.

I was considering the Gigot sleeved blouse on the far right since the cats in the print are all dressed like little astronomers and I thought the sleeves were very...astronomer-y, but I also like how sheer and wispy the other blouse is.

I was hoping to pair it with some tights similar to the ones pictured (possibly in navy, though?) and the champagne gold shoes, but I would probably go with navy shoes for more contrast if you gulls think offwhite/ivory tights would look better.

as for hair accessories...uh, i'm not really sure what to do atm so i just kinda threw some stuff i'd been considering in there. i'm not very attached to any of the pictured accessories, however

I have the other (simpler) version of the JSK, and the gigot sleeved blouse in black, which is very comfy.
As the dress is very ott, i don't think a simple side bow would be the better choice. Plus the dress already have 4 bows (not counting the one on the back), so i think the bonnet would be the best choice not to be too redundant. But again, i'm fond of bonnets, so i might be biaised about that.
I personnally accesorized my other jsk with whitexgold thights and navy shoes to balance out the bonnet/headpiece. Also not fond of gold shoes, i find them tacky. But I think those shoes in Navy with the gold star thingie would look great: https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a1z10.5-c.w4023-15029634060.16.72b24e2173nYaf&id=543767220158

For headwear, just match it to one of the other things you're wearing. for eg:

>>9668736
- white flowers match her white bolero
>>9668739
black hat matches black blouse and shoes

You actually have a lot of leeway, no one flips out when a JetJ coord isn't 100% matchy set. If you're really at a loss, you can stick to black, white, grey. A dusty brown could also work if you hit the right shade, or a nice grey that isn't too warm. I think there's a lot of other colours that could work with it, these are just the easiest to throw on and not have to think too hard about balancing them.

The easiest answer is white shoes. Ditch the idea of getting cutesy pastel lolita pumps and just get some feminine white pumps. It's going to be easier to buy a white AP bag and work your coord around the shoes and bag, than to search for cutesy pastel shoes in giantess sizing (sorry) that looks like AP but isn't AP.

If you're somewhat handy with DIY stuff, you can get some Angelus leather paint or flora paint and paint the white shoes pink, or whatever colour you need. You can also cover them in modge podge and glitter, and make shoe clips with earring backings.

As another option, Antaina makes custom shoes, so if you can draw up your own cutesy shoe design that doesn't look too closely like AP shoe designs, you can have them make one pair for your size. They take a few months and aren't cheap, though, so maybe not a viable option for the tea party.

If you can find a Melissa store, they often do shoes in pink or white (sometimes some other funky colours as well). Occassionally there's a pair of heels or something that works well with lolita. This does depend on their seasonal stock, though.

It isn't very obvious the dress has gold in it, I only know the stars are gold because I have the same dress. If you still want to coord gold shoes I'd suggest adding more gold to make it fit in more, for eg a large gold brooch (don't rely on small little things like the gold chain on a necklace or a small tiny pendant in the headdress that people might miss entirely).

There's also a little bit of disconnect between what you're trying to get across, gold shoes are really eye-catching, so they work the best for OTT coords where you want to stand out. But the black cardigan seems to say you're dressing down and want to tone things down? It's not that you can't wear a cardigan and gold shoes together, but maybe you want to give a little thought about what image you want to get across and let that guide you? If you want to dress down, black shoes with black cardi. If you want to be flamboyant, add a bigger headdress, more gold, then do the gold shoes.

do you like disney pins? Even if you're not a trader, a couple duffy pins in the jacket would be very cute. Japan isn't into trading much anyway which makes it cooler to have one.

The tights are meant to be ivory but I guess they're showing up as white. I'll see if I can find some that are more definitively ivory.
My friend just got me into pin trading but I didn't think about the fact that they must have some Duffy/ Shellie May ones! I'll have to look into that.
I''ll just be using my natural hair, and it's brown in a mid-length bob. Make-up fairly natural, blush pink lips and brown eyeliner.

Wear it with the skirt portion open on top of an ivory JSK, coord it with ivory, brown (for shoes and a purse) and gold for jewelry, either antique or bright, whichever you prefer. For hair accessories, I'd suggest a large headbow that's less structured and more "floppy" compared to most headbows commonly seen in lolita, like pic related; you could make this yourself. Or alternatively, this OP makes me think of mori girl so if you go with a layered look, you can work a flower theme into this with your accessories, and if you choose to wear a flower crown, make sure that you don't pick one with ridiculous oversized flowers, those always look shitty.
Just a few ideas to help you start with this gorgeous dress.

I have seen people mix purple with orange or blue with orange, the colour pattern is usually a bit strange for Halloween. I personally think a see through orange overskirt that has an open front might work. It was also just an impulse based suggestion based on my first association with that dress, a coord like this obviously needs some more work and though put into it.

I think you have a little bit of incongruity going on. Pockets embroidery was a late old school item from 2007-8 and touched on the hime gyaru trend at the time. Baby hadn't really made form fitting waist dresses until then. It was meant to be a fancy princess dress, so it was probably worn mostly with heels. RHS are from an older era of old school and go best with more doll like coords. That being said, I don't think they look bad together now, but it might be a little bottom heavy.

I would love to do hime lolita with it someday, but I thought about giving the old school idea a go after a girl in my comm gave me the idea. Maybe some mary janes might suit it better than RHS? Any black goth bag will be fine probably, or if you're inspired, maybe a basket with poisoned apples.
Complete with adequate accessories (like a pentagram necklace or something like that).

So I just bought Candy Sparkle and it's on it's way, but I'm facing a little bit of a time crunch; I could risk waiting until after it arrives and measure it myself, but I was wondering if any of you gulls might have this dress and might be able to give me the numbers ahead of time?

My master plan is to order a chiffon underskirt and chiffon overskirt from the same indie designer so the fabric will match. However, this means the pieces are going to take additional time to arrive because they are made to order. I have an event in Dec so the time is kinda funky.

My intent is to length visually Candy Sparkle and to "tone down" the brightness of the print to make it look better on a more "mature" person. I'm only in my 30s, but that's ancient in Lolita terms; I just love this print because it reminds me of the artistic themes of 1980s-era cartoons with space, random cuteness and transparent crystal elements.

>> No.9679765

I don't own this JSK so I can't help you with the length, but a black underskirt likely won't look good under white lace. I'm not entirely convinced that an all-chiffon (i.e. no lace) underskirt will look good with tulle lace, either. I'd look for a white underskirt that has lace at the hem if I were you.

I'll take everything you said into consideration; still haven't placed the order. I'm one of those Lolitas that can invest in a coord but doesn't have enough to recover last-minute from purchasing mistakes, so all the input to avoid failure is very appreciated.

My reasoning was (and this isn't a defense it's just explaining out the thought process) that there is a lot of black and white contrast with this dress, so I thought the white lace resting on top of a layer of black chiffon would 'go' with that. My other accessories with the cord so far are black items (tights, bolero) with some metallic thread to offer a "twinkle" and solid black oxfords.

I'm also wondering if I should stick with wrist cuffs or go look for gloves; I'm not old, but I do want to dress in a way that acknowledges my age and I wonder if going more "retro" with gloves conveys that. If I went with gloves, I'm also wondering; can I just wear wrist cuffs with my gloves to make them seem more decorated? I have solid black chiffon wrist cuffs and white ones; but they're kind of a dull white and not a "bright" white.

Actually, there’s at least one AP dress that has a black ruffle underneath white lace, and your dress has enough white accents to balance out white lace on black ruffles, so I think that would work out.

The skirt is ~50cm, but this doesn’t matter. When you put the dress on the waist often doesn’t match up with your own waist where you’d put the underskirt, so knowing it’s 50cm doesn’t really help. You may be better off measuring 84 cm from your shoulders down to see where the dress will end at, and then measuring from your waist down to get the right length for the ruffles to start.

OR, if you look up brand underskirts (JetJ’s petale de Rose skirt for eg), you’ll see that they usually do layers of ruffles . This means that if the dress is shorter, you get more layers of ruffles, if the dress is longer, you get less. That way the dress length doesn’t matter, and you can use the underskirt for many different dress lengths.

About toning down the high contrast of the dress, I don’t think adding an overskirt and underskirt will really do it — the bodice of the dress is still pretty bright, and the bows get in the way of throwing a bolero over it. Assuming you’re older, giving a nod to your age is going to be difficult, too, most of the cutesy details are in the bodice bows and such. A lot of times, it’s honestly easier to simply start with a dress or a brand that already looks toned down, I’d suggest looking at IW for toned down cutesy dresses instead of AP if you want to do toned down sweet, it's easier.

If you really want to stick with this dress, what I’d really suggest is a custom sheer overdress, like what VM put out earlier this year or a previous release by Dark Box. But then you’d have to snip the chest and waist bows off your burando (you can keep them in a box and resew them when you want to sell, but I understand not everyone wants to alter their burando).

I just got Tartan Check Shirring Princess and would really appreciate some suggestions for hair accessories and legwear, for this dress specifically but also for tartan dresses in general, because I love them and intend to get a few more.
While, for legwear, I'm thinking plain solid tights matching the blouse (matching lace-topped UTKs would also work, right?) but with headwear I'm drawing a blank. Matching it to the blouse/tights and leaving the dress as the only colorful piece sounds boring, but I realize finding the matching bow might take forever, and mismatched tartans will look awful.

>> No.9682584

>>9682514

Agreeing with most of your points, mismatched tartans are pretty bad, so sticking to solids and matching the headbow to something other than the dress sounds right.

You're not really limited to solely adding one other colour as the blouse that has to be your socks and headbow colour as well, though. I think you can pull red, black and (off)white from the dress, and if you like brown or gold, they would work pretty well with the dress as well. So you could do lace-topped socks, but they can be white lace on black socks, not just solid black/white socks, or if you're daring you could even try wine red socks with white lace, black shoes and blouse, red headbow. The bag and shoes add another colour, so instead of matching your headwear to your blouse/tights you can match them to your bag/shoes. Or you could do both -- a larger headbow in the colour of your blouse/cardigan, and then a smaller bow or a hairclip in the same colour as your shoes and bag (or vice versa).

The only issue is to balance all the colours so one colour doesn't stand out too much, and make sure you look good in the dominant colour.

It's actually a pretty versatile dress, you can coord it with many different combination of those colours on the blouse/cardigan, legwear, shoes, bag and headbow.

That's not what I meant by that, I meant more that kinda of style - French school uniform, so lots of navy and probably a beret. I just wanted to clarify that I wasn't going for a fetishy 'school girl' look but more reserved and classic uniform.

I have IW's Constance in brown, which I love for everyday wear. Its very flattering and fits well and can be toned down very well.

I'm going to an event in a couple weeks that I'd love to dress up this dress. I have two ivory colored printed sets of tights, one with mushrooms and one with nautical elements that I'd used before, but I'd like to go a little bigger. What sorts of accessories do you think would really pack a punch with this? My immeadiate thought would be brooches and necklaces, but are there any other things I'm missing? Interesting belts, pretty high necked blouses?

>> No.9687695

>>9685899
Wear it with a nice peter pan collared blouse and a boater hat of some sort, accessorize with a ribbon under the collar and lace topped OTKs/knee socks depending on how long the JSK is on you and what you find more comfortable, and you should be good to go. It's a very basic and simple look that's easy to pull off as a beginner.
And a small tip: Try coording it with a sailor collared blouse and accessories to go with the sailor theme in the future for a different look, it'll be cute like that too.

My kneejerk reaction is to suggest an underskirt, but not one of those terrible long and gaudy ones that you see everywhere today. Something like the Little Dipper underskirt can be cute, as long as you pick one that isn't very long; I suggest you pick a skirt that's about 5cm longer than your JSK just to have one row of frills showing. Also, a statement necklace of some sort will be great (think a large pendant that matches whatever theme you're going for), the bodice is rather plain so you'll be able to add some interest to it very easily.
I'd suggest you go with the mushroom tights and build something from there, it'll look better coorded with brown imo.

and those shoes are cute, but my are they ..edgy? Your dress has dark colors but has a classy/softer vibe to it than the shoes are giving off. I think the shoes should be kept solid colored and simple, and perhaps a chunky heel is fine too.
your dress has a lot of amazing details that should be showcased more than the shoes

The most obviously Christmassy dresses are the two red ones, and they do look otome-ish, but if you can throw an IW bolero over the onepiece (and not die from the heat) it will look more lolita. The red jsk can probably be styled lolita, or at least soft lolita with a very frilly blouse (or an IW bolero. They fix everything).

My favorite is the black dress though. I'd just do an elegant classic all-black coord with it and then a pop of colour in the form of mistletoe or poinsettias. You could do a Christmas floral crown if you want to be loud about it, but I think a large, prominent mistletoe brooch or corsage, maybe echoed with a little red in your jewellery or some of your nails, would look really understated.

Hi gulls! I have pic related and I'd love to make it a little more ott for ILD. I'm not too good at color balance yet, so I'd love for some suggestions on what color blouse, accessories, shoes etc. I'm in a bit of a budget right now, so I'm planning on making the new accessories. I'd suggest a blouse in a shade of sax to match the drapes in the print, and if you're making your own accessories you should make some ribbon accessories for your blouse and your hair to match the pink ribbons in the print in color and appearance. Jewelry should be gold, of course, pic related will match nicely but I'm not sure whether you have the time to track it down secondhand. Instead of painting a pair of shoes gold, you should probably just buy a new pair; if the painting process goes wrong you'll have less time to buy a new one and would have ruined a perfectly good pair of shoes for nothing.

Lace tights. Alternatively, low-denier sheer white tights with some designs on them, or you can layer sheer white tights underneath lace tights -- good if you're sensitive about bare skin showing through the lace mesh.

>>9694953

You have the same problem as >>9655386. Just about all indie brands can only do charcoal grey, never true black prints. So I'd suggest the same, stick to sheer or lacey black stuff, make sure your veil is pretty light and not too thick so it doesn't draw attention to how grey the dress is. imo an all-white veil would look rather unbalanced, but if you add some charcoal grey/black elements to your veil headdress and then balance it out with white tights or something else, it could work.

As for alternatives, just think of this as any other OP with a print. You can pretty much wear anything, a headbow, a ribbon, a canotier, a hat, etc etc. I dont' really see why you have to stick to a veil.

Have you tried this OP and bolero on together? Do the blacks match? Do the necklines work together?
If yes, then I don't see any problem wearing velvet as all the fabrics have a rich/opulent feeling.
Maybe bring in more velvet by getting a hair accessory in red velvet that matches the dress colour if it really bothers you. Or maybe a hat or bonnet in black with velvet/velvet ribbons and red accents (which would also keep your head wamer). Gold jewellery to tie things together.
If it's cold, tights and bloomers are going to be your friends. I think black tights with a gold print would work nicely.
I hope you have a lolita coat too, if not, maybe time to buy one (I duno how cold 10 degrees feels to you, or if you are talking farenheit or celcius)

Hopefully none of those items will be too difficult to find in japanese secondhand stores.

I think a black beret would be cute. If not, something simple like a side bow clip or a small headbow. If you have three black items - headwear, bag, and shoes - it should look fairly balanced even with the navy. As for socks you could go with white if you are wearing a white blouse like the stock photo, but something with gold detailing would be nice.

>>9706369
It's going to look really forced, especially since the pink is so pastel. You could try to go for an Alice look - black headbow, black shoes, and a small black purse - but I think it'll just be really off and cheap.

To be honest with you I didn’t answer before this because I wasn’t confident on the velvet bolero. I guess try it on and if the blacks match and it doesn’t look too weird, then it works? There’s nothing that says velvet can only be worn with velvet, it’s more whether the sleeves match up, or the bolero just looks like shit on you (I also have a 95cm bust and sometimes the stretch boleros don’t work out)

Legwear, you can buy plain black tights, either thermal or high denier ones, from Gu or Uniqlo. Gu/Uniqlo is pretty cheap and decent quality. You can also pick up some thick shorts here, which will keep you warmer than cotton bloomers, as well as a woollen stole or something if you need it — you can buy a fancy pin from either Gu or closet child and use that to dress up the shawl, at least you’re covered and warm.

Assuming Harajuku closet child, you can easily find red, wine or bordeaux accessories pretty easily, also jewellery from aatp, Moitie, Chocomint to add some polish to the coord. At the very worst, they always seem to have a basket of plain black headbows and a rack of outerwear that you can buy warmer stuff from, if the bolero doesn’t work out.

Actually I’m pretty sure if any of your pieces don’t work out you can pretty much put together a whole coord from closet child, only the shoes might be a bit of a gamble (They have a lot of variety, but you won’t necessarily find the right combination of size, colour and style). I’d try closet child before going to Gu for this reason, you have a pretty good chance of finding legwear that matches your dress at closet child (whether it warm enough is another story though).

If using a different secodhand shop, still pretty much the same advice, but it’s more of a gamble. I think Usagiyouhinten has much lower chances of finding a basket of black accessories, but they do carry some more obscure homemade indie accessories.

The blouse on the left seems too sweet for the dress, but the lacy bolero may work. You could even try wearing it under the dress as a blouse.
Otherwise iirc there were a few nice looking lace blouses on LM.

For shoes I think a bow pump in a pink or mauve-y tone would be nice like pic related. These are VM but I think you could find similar styles on taobao or from more casual or vintage inspired brands like axes femme. Another option could be tan or ivory/beigey shoes as well.

>>9708880
If you work off a dress that contains both wine and red it seems possible? Maybe just lay the items you're thinking about together and see if they look alright.
I think the key to using similar-but-not-the-same tones is to ensure that they're different enough to tell apart so it doesn't look like you mistook them for the same color and are attempting to match them.

>> No.9709035

Bring in maybe a beige/ivory theme since that color will compliment both wine and red. I personally like pairing brown with wine/red as well. The collars of the JSK and cutsew clash. I would go with a black short-sleeved blouse with a peter pan. Chiffon would be better as it matches the JSK strap ruffles.

I am not sure what I think of the shoe choice. The JSK has a bustle so you would think to dress it up, but the print is so weird. Another anon may have better feedback on it.

I agree, the cutsew has a weird neckline for the JSK. I like >>9720069 's blouse better. I mean, the boots aren't the worst, but this dress feels less sugary sweet than them. Easy mode is to match your legwear to your blouse. You can also match your legwear to your shoes (this works best with darker colors, I've done it with black and navy).

She doesn't look that bad honestly, though I'd pick other shoes to wear with that dress.
Can you pinpoint why the shoulder straps make blouses look odd? It seems fine in the pic you posted. Have you tried wearing the JSK with a bolero on top instead? There are boleros that don't close in the front or have a lower cut so you don't have to cover the details on the bodice, if you're worried about that.
Other than that, to make your legs look longer, try wearing socks or tights in a color that matches the JSK; admittedly this trick works better with black but it's worth a shot.
I'm 162cm tall and I've never looked stumpy in my longer dresses; maybe you're just not used to wearing longer cuts?

wear it with heels instead of chunky sweet shoes. Round-toe shoes will make you look more stumpy, choose pointy toed shoes that'll elongate your legs. If it were me I'd wear legwear with vertical stripes too.

I'm about to buy this and somehow got it stuck in my head that I want a creme colored blouse for it. However, that would clash a bit with the white lace accents on the JSK (see hem line and JSK collar). I won't use the detachable collar and probably not the white rose bow either, so the little bit of white lace might be okay. I'm still unsure though. Your thoughts?

I can't see that blouse working with either JSK that easily. White would be much better. In terms of shoes - how cold is your winter? Lace up boots are reasonably versatile in lolita, but if you get proper snow and ice you are probably just going to have to suck it up and wear actual snow boots.

>> No.9734927

I hate to say this but you might have to start from scratch, and I'll try to explain why:
That dress, from what we can see of it, looks pretty low quality in both materials and design, specifically the lace and that random bow. Stripes can work in gothic lolita if you know what you're doing but they don't work well here.
The capelet is nothing special so it looks off; it might look okay in a better coord but right now it looks like an afterthought, as if you didn't have anything better to wear and had to opt to this because of the weather.
And, again, can't see much of it but from what I can see, the blouse looks too plain for lolita.
Not to say that lolita has to be drowning in lace and frills and ribbons to be appropriate, but small details do matter a lot.
Everything else you're already aware of so I won't comment on it.
Also, I wouldn't say that you have to wear a wig; if you accessorize well, short hair can look cute in lolita too: http://lolita-tips.tumblr.com/tagged/short-hair

>> No.9734941

>>9734922

Gonna agree, the blouse is kind of too office-looking, and the capelet is so jarringly different from lolita, kind of too "rough" and "big" where lolita is refined small details.

So, added to this list
>petti issue, accessories, [...], tights and shoes

It really does look like you should start over, because that's almost everything except your hair and dress.

I'd say your hair looks fine, you don't need a wig, just some hair accessories. Get something like a barette or hairclip, or a beret for your hair instead of buying a wig, it's easier to maintain and change looks for future coords.

I think the dress could work, particularly if you can remove the bow. Sometimes office blouses can be lolified as well, by switching out the buttons to nicer ones and adding lace. Hard to tell with that fugly capelet covering everything, though. If you take more photos of just the blouse and dress we might be able to say for sure whether there's any way to improve them or if you should ditch them and start over.

the blouse has frill things on the sleeve. I wouldn't say its officey but you guys can't see it so I just thought I would mention. If I wear it I do have to wear something under it as it is transparent.

The skirt is body line and second hand. I've looked at the bow but I dont think its safe to remove it. It seems sewed in.

Thank you for taking your time to look at my outfit. I'll look into what you guys have said. (pic related. Its the blouse)

>> No.9734958

You can remove the bow with a seam ripper and the blouse looks office-y. Ado I agree with the other anon about starting from scratch, that JSK looks really cheap.

>> No.9734960

>>9734956

....Yeah, that's a pretty terribad blouse. The collar shape at least looks right, so if you want to, you can still try to lolify it by adding lace/replacing buttons. Not sure there's anything that can be done about the fish fin shoulder frill, but it should blend right into a jsk with shoulder frills at least.

A sewn in bow can usually be removed pretty easily with a seam ripper. Assuming you're not too bad with handicrafts, of course.

Just noting that if you're okay with doing a little bit of handicrafts here and there, there's a couple of options other than throwing it all out and starting over.

See pic related for example, it's a fairly simple blouse with a relatively smaller peter pan collar than what you typically see, but it's still obviously lolita.
It's all good though, trial and error is a good way to learn when you're just starting out. Good luck, anon!

You don't have to ruin anything to make a guro coord. You can use blood red roses or ribbons and cloth bandages and an eye patch or something. I feel like an idiot when it comes to headwear - this is a coord I'm working on, only thing I haven't purchased are a book necklace and a butterfly brooch or two to match the print/tights. An ivory blouse might look better, I'm unsure, I don't have a high collar one at the moment though. Maybe black. Hair isn't a wig, just about what my hair looks like.

Like, should I wear a simple black beret with a butterfly pin? A small hair clip? A more subtle black headbow a la IW? I'm honestly unsure what would look good with this outfit, I'm terribly with headwear.

An ivory or antique white would look better. Kind of have a half office lady thing going, have you considered going the jabot route to soften the crisp lines of the blazer?

As for head wear, I think you'd benefit from a braided hairstyle more, to keep with the bookish look.
An IW headband would look good with that sort of look I think
The style of it isn't a big concern so long as it can carry some of the color from the print up.

Just fill out the bottom with a petticoat and roll with the look, the silhoutte should somewhat resemble a block shape or maybe a traffic cone (if you're doing sweet). You're supposed to look cute as if you're too small for the dress, and the lack of waist is kind of child-like instead of showing womanly curves, if that makes sense.

If the shoulders are too wide, ie the sleeve seams sit further down rather than on your shoulder, then the dress definitely doesn't fit. Sell it off, there's looking cute as if you're slightly too small for the dress, and then there's looking like you don't know your own dress size. You want the former, not the latter.
