I read the study before buying the book too, but I bought it mostly because of the comics and the interviews. There's a very nice interview with Novala that I really enjoyed, and, of course, the comics were pretty nice too. The academical part is a nice reference for those who want to produce academical content related to Lolita Fashion, but it isn't, in any way, news for those who already take part in the fashion.

It's usually conlitas, and not in the way cgl often uses that word now. Basically cosplayers that want to "cosplay a lolita" and/or just wanna be like their favorite animu waifu and are only judging by costume quality standards. Or other people that don't see it as an actual fashion. I'm sad about all the shoes I put off buying, and some of their costumes and accessories were decent but in the end I think it will just help lolita overall. People have to actually want to put more than 5 minutes into it. Bodyline was basically like a mine field for new lolitas anyway, even with 2017 resources. What you should really be thinking about is whether or not you'll snag a dress on tight turns, or if the haunted houses are going to be in a place where they would have dirt floors (in my area we have a lot of haunted houses that are just constructed on farms for the month of october, they can get relatively dirty).

Wigs haven't been standard for Japanese lolitas since OTT sweet was queen. Probably for the same reason they often have slightly mismatched shoes and lower poof. The gradient hair is probably more of a streetsnap type of thing. At least I haven't seen it outside of that very often.

On the main topic, despite its varying quality issues, BL was a catch-all that took care of sizing, perceived language barriers/fears about overseas ordering and general fears about buying secondhand so I get why people are crying about it. And on the other hand, I agree with everyone else. There are just too many damn resources now to have excuses about not being able to get into the fashion, so nuts to that shit. Good riddance to them if BL disappearing is an insurmountable obstacle to their so called lacy dreams.

I fucking give up on western indie brands for clothing, anons. I love the idea of supporting a budding designer but a dress I had preordered arrived with the waist bulky and lumpy from the poorly gathered skirt fabric, the bodice is tubular, and it just looks completely different from the sample. I'm so cut up about it because I was really looking forward to the dress arriving. Not going to drop the name of the brand because I'm going to get in touch with them about it, but I guess I just wanted to vent.

yeah, I've actually ordered from Lockshop and I didn't have a bad experience in that aspect. My biggest problem was the wig color- Vanille is MUCH darker in person than it is in the photos. What I thought was going to be a light blonde ended up being almost ash brown. She brightens the fuck out of her pictures to the point where the color doesn't even look the same. For anyone considering getting this, do yourself a favor and don't. I had the original release and it's not lined, the print runs like crazy. Even when I had JUST gotten it the print was splotchy. Sewing was also pretty bad. Unless she's improved, which is possible. I haven't had any other dresses from her just because this one was so bad. Which sucks, because I love the print.

Seconding this. I bought this on the first round and was disappointed with almost every aspect of it. Print runs like crazy, will transfer onto other clothes, the sewing was awful, no lining, just one layer of cotton, bodice had terrible shape/was super unflattering; it was like she made her first dress ever and then decided to sell it. It was awful quality wise, but I've heard she's got better so here's to hoping that's the truth with this round.

Has anyone ever bought Melty Cream Donut from mercari or fril? I've seen the jsks go for relatively cheap (12000-16000 yen) recently and I'd like to buy one but I'm scared of replicas, especially because of the Taobao ones that looked so similar to the real ones.

They actually use a shitton of different polyesters, most of it being really decent quality. I mean, it's only a $300 dress, it's not a $3000 Dior dress that moves with your body. But I've accidentally bought a satin dress from AP (didn't realise until after), and what I received was a really beautiful silky material, not the nightmare cheap stuff I'd envisioned. I think the quality of their polyester is pretty good, actually.

I think most people don't realise when they're buying a printed chiffon dress, it's supposed to be see-through and tissue-thin. That's the appeal of chiffon. But it also doesn't help that most of AP's chiffon prints tends to look rather weird, they just make up the print like they usually do, so you'd end up with something like Holy Theatre where all the white animals and white clouds look dirty because the lining is showing through the chiffon (like it's supposed to). Really, I think this is just bad design, but I can understand if people won't buy it because it does look kind of funky.

That, and there's also girls who hate on chiffon blouses. Some people just hate polyester, period.

Wore a winter cutsew once (so, cotton knit jersey, but winter releases are often much thicker than summer releases) and had the flushed face, makeup melted off, the works. Never had this issue in lightweight polyester dresses or blouses. The thickness of the fabric affects me way more than whether it's polyester or natural, I'd struggle if the fabric was too thick even if it's cotton. I'm also a lifestyler, IW on weekdays and AP on weekends. Gotta say it's nice to be able to not care whether it's polyester or not, because a lot of IW is polyester as well.

If you want the costing side answer, generally a part of it is a currency buffer in case the exchange rate moves unfavourably. If an item is priced at 300 euros this week, but is at 250e when you finally decide you want to buy it next week, you'd be happy about that. But if the currency moved the other way and the item is now at 350 euros instead, most girls would bitch and moan and whine, (and yes, I can understand why they would, but that also means) AP Paris either loses a sale, or they keep the 300euroes pricing and take a 50e loss. Besides, what you describe simply sounds like oversaturation. You fill up a blank folder pretty fast because everything is new, but after a couple of years you have maybe ten images of girls in pink x brown, so when yet another one comes along you don't save it because you already have 10 similar coords. Might depend on the office you go to, but at my customs office they usually just want to see some kind of proof that you paid and that can be a PayPal payment. When I go there to pick up stuff I ordered via any kind of service where shipping fee is invoiced separately, I'll just show the PayPal receipt for the item itself (you could probably also try with the receipt for only the shipping fees, but I'm afraid that might be too suspicious). I've also heard before that some people got through without paying at all by having a private seller pack and mark the item as a present and include a card that says happy birthday.

Unpopular opinion perhaps but I have a 100% silk Uniqlo black blouse that I wear with corset skirts (under a jacket) and under JSK's that have a lot going on lace-wise, print-wise, ribbons, buttons etc around the straps and bust already, only if the main color is black too though (got it years ago, they're not selling it now). Apart from the rare neutral item that's in a nice enough material, there's nothing really loliable, definitely not the collaboration t-shirts, they're way too casual. If you're looking for normie clothes to work in an office or something they have really good quality basics for the prices, same for lounge wear and underwear.

Seconding heattech, it’s not going to be as warm as something from patagonia or the like but it’s good enough and actually wearable underneath jfashion due to the thinness of the material. Their collaborations are worth keeping an eye on: e.g. the ines des la fressange collection had a nice casual/otome-ish dress at one point that can take a low poof petti and was also done up with french seams.

austria here, it's exactly the same for us. the 12% + 21% seem to be an EU wide thing, whereas different countries can choose to add their own handling fees on top of that.

I just want to see people try out more, wearing a colour that's not in the print is not a bad thing if you can balance it out otherwise. Also, in their opinion, solid colour dresses should be worn with same colour accessories only.
