Does anyone know if we still have something like "Lolita Blog Carnival" active? I wanted to join this kind of thing since I'm an active poster an would be nice to meet other bloggers.

Oh, I got free shipping from Amazon. Maybe you could wait until Black Friday if you really want it? I don't know if it's like that where you live, but here during this time a lot of bookstores make some really nice promotions. Other than that, I wouldn't pay 32 euros.

>> No.9650836

>>9650833
Nope, there's no black Friday in my country. I thought that's only a thing in the US. Maybe I'll just wait until I want to buy other books so shipping is more justified. I was also wondering if it's still interesting if you already read An Nguyen's study.

>> No.9650837

>>9650836
I read the study before buying the book too, but I bought it mostly because of the comics and the interviews. There's a very nice interview with Novala that I really enjoyed, and, of course, the comics were pretty nice too. The academical part is a nice reference for those who want to produce academical content related to Lolita Fashion, but it isn't, in any way, news for those who already take part in the fashion.

Did you read this one too? http://ir.lib.uwo.ca/etd/1042/

It's "Maiden’s Fashion As Eternal Becomings: Victorian Maidens and Sugar Sweet Cuties Donning Japanese Street Fashion in Japan and North America"

It's very nice and cover most part of the cultural aspects that are in the book, so I guess that the comics and interviews are going to be the only thing that're novelty for you.

In reality they probably wouldn't have blood or anything on their hands unless its a REALLY intense haunted house (like the 18+, sign a waiver kind). What you should really be thinking about is whether or not you'll snag a dress on tight turns, or if the haunted houses are going to be in a place where they would have dirt floors (in my area we have a lot of haunted houses that are just constructed on farms for the month of october, they can get relatively dirty).

I had this before I got into lolita but the speed at which you get over it when you find older items you fall in love with, wow. I deeply appreciate that I can actually go vintage shopping now as a result as well.

On the main topic, despite its varying quality issues, BL was a catch-all that took care of sizing, perceived language barriers/fears about overseas ordering and general fears about buying secondhand so I get why people are crying about it. And on the other hand, I agree with everyone else. There are just too many damn resources now to have excuses about not being able to get into the fashion, so nuts to that shit. Good riddance to them if BL disappearing is an insurmountable obstacle to their so called lacy dreams.

I fucking give up on western indie brands for clothing, anons. I love the idea of supporting a budding designer but a dress I had preordered arrived with the waist bulky and lumpy from the poorly gathered skirt fabric, the bodice is tubular, and it just looks completely different from the sample. I'm so cut up about it because I was really looking forward to the dress arriving. Not going to drop the name of the brand because I'm going to get in touch with them about it, but I guess I just wanted to vent.

I know a girl in her own comm who was strung along for almost a year before she got her wig, with tons of obviously fake excuses like one moment saying the mail is just taking very long and a month later saying "I'll ship this weekend", like didn't you ship already? She's full of shit. And whenever she tried to say anything to the comm she got tons of responses like "well IIIII always got my wig on time!!" from personal friends of the owner that drowned out her experience and made her feel stupid. If all of these people got their stuff on time and she had to wait many months then maybe it's her own fault right? UwU
Also one time a newbie asked for good places to buy wigs and mentioned that she heard about Lockshop being unreliable, a mod replied saying those stories weren't true and Lockshop is great and she should definitely buy from them. I wonder if that girl ever got her wig. Because if she didn't, she'd get zero support from this comm.

I don't want to be that negative Nancy but I was really disappointed with my wig from Brightlele. I ordered their long wavy curls in storm grey, and while I expected the cap to be small in me, it was also really thin! It was so thin you could see the tracks and I was mortified.

The fiber is also prone to tangling, despite very minimal wear. I don't know if I just have really bad luck. I had to treat it with silicone to make the fibers more manageable, but it is still the biggest downer I've had. Even the wigs I've bought from lucaille and ebay have been better.

They actually use a shitton of different polyesters, most of it being really decent quality. I mean, it's only a $300 dress, it's not a $3000 Dior dress that moves with your body. But I've accidentally bought a satin dress from AP (didn't realise until after), and what I received was a really beautiful silky material, not the nightmare cheap stuff I'd envisioned. I think the quality of their polyester is pretty good, actually.

I think most people don't realise when they're buying a printed chiffon dress, it's supposed to be see-through and tissue-thin. That's the appeal of chiffon. But it also doesn't help that most of AP's chiffon prints tends to look rather weird, they just make up the print like they usually do, so you'd end up with something like Holy Theatre where all the white animals and white clouds look dirty because the lining is showing through the chiffon (like it's supposed to). Really, I think this is just bad design, but I can understand if people won't buy it because it does look kind of funky.

That, and there's also girls who hate on chiffon blouses. Some people just hate polyester, period.

I had this down as "people who don't like polyester", guess I should have specified it as the main reason some people don't like chiffon blouses.

I live mainly in AC rooms but they never get cold enough. So I guess I'm the opposite. I'd take any form of polyester so long as it's short-sleeved and airy enough, but I'd probably die in actually hot velvet. Never really had smelly polyester, either, in my experience the polyester is less likely to hold stains and stinks. I don't use a lot of anti perspirant though, so maybe I'm just not all that scenty.

I mean I've bought lots of putumayo just for roomwear, but you're going to look 10x better in an airy coord than something you're obviously struggling in. Even thick old school and a heavy cotton blouse feels and looks so much better unless you're only going to a con or not going outside other than the car and back. I'm a "lifestyler" that doesn't want to only wear lolita once a week, so your conditions and all that may vary there too. That sounds like me in anything too thick. Wore a winter cutsew once (so, cotton knit jersey, but winter releases are often much thicker than summer releases) and had the flushed face, makeup melted off, the works. Never had this issue in lightweight polyester dresses or blouses. The thickness of the fabric affects me way more than whether it's polyester or natural, I'd struggle if the fabric was too thick even if it's cotton. I'm also a lifestyler, IW on weekdays and AP on weekends. Gotta say it's nice to be able to not care whether it's polyester or not, because a lot of IW is polyester as well.

I think that this is especially convenient for Eurofags as orders often tend to end up in customs and you have to pay extra fees. How do you gulls handle negative feedback? Whether it be in lolita or otherwise. Tbh, ordering through them saves a lot of time and hassle which I would have with an SS and driving to customs (petrol x time, because customs are like an hour away). It feels like they only have that shop for the prestige of having a shop at an A-location in Paris. You can't rely on people who only buy from your sale, or Asian tourists who have to fit something into their luggage they can buy in their own country for less. I don't know if AP Paris is easier to deal with since I've never had any reason to buy from them, but I have a more positive image of Japanese customer service than of French. It's not like they have to buy the dresses from AP Japan for retail and make a profit off of that. Shipping and taxes are not that much to justify the mark-up they do and other brands have the same pricing worldwide.

>> No.9653166

If you want the costing side answer, generally a part of it is a currency buffer in case the exchange rate moves unfavourably. If an item is priced at 300 euros this week, but is at 250e when you finally decide you want to buy it next week, you'd be happy about that. But if the currency moved the other way and the item is now at 350 euros instead, most girls would bitch and moan and whine, (and yes, I can understand why they would, but that also means) AP Paris either loses a sale, or they keep the 300euroes pricing and take a 50e loss. So the better option is to convert the prices a little higher at the beginning, even if one buyer like you choses not to buy from AP Paris, at least they're not suddenly selling their whole entire stock below break-even point from doing nothing at all, just currency fluctuations.

>whenever I look at CoF and coord help thread they want you to add more.

coord help thread answers requests for coords. The "you" in my comment refers to whoever is requesting coords, not you "you".

Besides, what you describe simply sounds like oversaturation. You fill up a blank folder pretty fast because everything is new, but after a couple of years you have maybe ten images of girls in pink x brown, so when yet another one comes along you don't save it because you already have 10 similar coords. Same reason girls who get into lolita will buy everything in a frenzy, then a year or two later say they're bored or lolita is dying because they no longer get that excited feeling when a brand releases a new dress, because they already have a wardrobe full of other dresses.

When I go there to pick up stuff I ordered via any kind of service where shipping fee is invoiced separately, I'll just show the PayPal receipt for the item itself (you could probably also try with the receipt for only the shipping fees, but I'm afraid that might be too suspicious).
