I really don't care about comics or Western media all that much, and it doesn't look like there's going to be any anime oriented stuff at all this year. Same. I just flat out didnt go this year and went to j1con in philly which was its last year there too. Also holy shit ive never seen such a micro con, even though it was short notice. Like the whole con only had a game room, a dealers/artist alley and 1 panel area. It was nuts but it was still a fun time, cant wait for j1con 2018

Same with AAC. I think the last time I went was about 5 or 6 years ago. I'm curious to see how the con has grown.

I'm going to NYCC mainly because I was able to secure a pro pass. The regular line is enough to make me not want to go.

Going to NYCC is definitely an experience I think most people should try once. But if you're putting yourself through 4 hours of lines each year; I think you're a masochist. It just isn't that fun of a con to make into a yearly thing.

NYCC. Not sure if I'm going yet because of how big of a clusterfuck they turned ticketing into. ANYC looks promising tho, but the date clashes with -

DerpyCon - been going every year, lots of fun. Not too big, not too small. Great crowd, in the middle of a nice town. Not going to give it up for ANYC.

Wicked Faire. They're bringing it back next year and I'm fucking hyped. One of my favorite cons ever. I'll also throw in Steampunk Worlds Faire here since it's by the same guy and also loads of fun.

Heliosphere for some old school SF goodness, and to be one of the youngest people there instead of one of the oldest like at an Anime Cons. RIP Lunacon.

Anime NEXT. Went this year after not going for a while and was blown away. Having it in Atlantic City worked out much better than I would have expected, and you can hit the casinos when you need a break from the con.

I'll throw Arisia in here just because I love it so much, even though it's in New England. Great atmosphere, amazing panels, incredible room parties, terrible hotel in a awful location tho, and the weather is almost always a horror show. Has also gotten seriously infested with SJWs, but they haven't ruined the fun - yet. Make sure to seek out the Rocket Fuel party if you attend.

I-Con: It's finally back! Or is it? I can't find any info on 2018. :( Ditto for LI-Con.
Liberty City Anime Con/Blaze Con/Play NYC - A special shout out to the planning geniuses who independently scheduled 3 cons in NYC on the same weekend this summer, guaranteeing that they'd all have depressed attendance. I hope they don't make that mistake next year. Much better to have a con every weekend in your City then having to choose between 3 on the same weekend.

Hope you aren't staying in the main hotel. Last year they made you sign a waiver agreeing that you'd never have more than five people in the room at once, even if it's just friends who stopped by. Staff then patrolled the halls each night, knocking on every door to make sure there were no groups of people and claiming "noise complaints" to make sure everyone stayed quiet. Staff knocked on my door three times in one night to complain about noise, even though me and my roommate were just chatting and watching videos.

No. I'm from North NJ and went to j1con each day because I was in the AA. It was pretty dull and not exciting at all. There was barely a n y t h i n g as they didn't even have a panel room, and the whole thing was basically just in a warehouse. It was really ghetto, and you can't hear anything, always have to scream to talk because they used a corner of the warehouse for their panels, having a mic and several speakers. It's cheap for a reason.
>>9630784
I signed up for Wicked Faire hall table at $250...really expensive imo, and that was the cheapest table option. If I get accepted, I sell handcrafted wands and sigil art/paintings along with some other animal themed trinkets. Would you happen to know if this is the kind of thing attendees would be willing to buy? I'm really worried about not breaking even... If I even get accepted.
>>9633676
I'll be going if I get into their AA. I went once in 2011? I think their second year, and it was only a day. It was really... Shitty and I didn't do well at all. Of course my art is pretty bad too, but over the years I improved and rebranded myself. Would you say more people go every year? Do you know if people actually buy there, or is it still just a hang out con?

There was a con in Newark that seemed promising. First year was big, at the nicest hotel in the city. Media, minor celebrities, local artists, etc. etc. but the turnout was great and I heard it made enough to upgrade to an even bigger venue (Pru Center maybe?) Next year took place at what seemed like a murder warehouse off Rt. 21, I refused to touch it with a 10 foot pole and it died after that.

Not sure what happened there but sad nonetheless

I went. First time at NYCC but from what I heard it was very different (although they say that every year...) The Javits Center is under construction so apparently the con was more cramped, not to mention work shut down certain sidewalks. They also moved Artists' Alley from a large area to a smaller one, and I can definitely attest it was cramped as hell. Panels were meh, allegedly much less star power than usual. The show floor was alright, but there were at least a dozen booths selling nothing but Funko Pops, Dorbz, Dunnys, etc. Very annoying. The area outside was a minefield of photography and there were so many people smoking and vaping there was practically a constant haze. There were ZERO spots to sit down the entire time so I ended up shambling around like a zombie exhausted. Big pet peeve I had were the half-dozen people pushing around strollers like bulldozers and the employees practically running people over with trash bins. I understand they have to get rid of trash but saying "Ey watch ya back." two seconds before practically knocking someone over is not cool at all. Also who the hell brings a baby to a con? I get it's their right and there are extenuating circumstances but when I see someone with their double-wide stroller filled with stuff it's irritating.

Overall a fun experience, but with the Javits Center under construction until 2020 definitely not an "every year" event unless you're a masochist.

She's an attention whoring vampire? I've seen events she's in (though I don't know why they keep letting her do them because she's garbage...?) and she turns everything into her. She's always driving to make sure everyone is looking at her, even when it means acting like an idiot. It's embarrassing to watch.

This way she could win something and everyone would fawn over her. Instead, bitch got caught and she has no idea what shit she's in for the future.

But why not participate in the performance category instead? Unless she's just so horrendously not creative that she can't come up with something to do as a skit? Idk, the pathetic aspect is just absolutely astounding.

First day at rhode island comicon. The security situation is a fucking mess. They have an attachment to the games room from the main con, but if you go to it, you can't get back in. And not only that, you are forced to run outside in the freezing cold around both buildings, then you got forced to run around the entire arena to get back to the panels and dealers. Wouldn't be so mad if I didn't have to do it 3 times, even asking "can I get back in this way?" And being told absolutely.

If anyone's here, planning on running my oni genji cosplay again tomorrow.

Does anyone have any suggestions on where to find cool new england area cosplayers or do they not exist? I'm in the NH area near the MA border and all of the meetups I've been to are overrun by immature weaboos in terrible cosplays. Other states have top tier cosplayers and close-knit communities so why don't we?

>> No.9714250

>>9714124
I think, it's because most people in the new england area generally keep to themselves and to their groups. In Mass I know there are groups around but I keep away, because of unneeded drama. My advice would be just keep trying.

Was Anime NYC worth going to? Any larger vendors here that can ballpark the amount of volume they got?

>> No.9714332

>>9714124

Every cool person I've met in MA/NH started by casually socializing at a con, then invited to hang out with that person's group over a slow span of time and encounters. People are protective of their friends groups. Be patient and chill.

People who go to public meetups are usually too crazy or annoying to make friends the normal way.

>> No.9714366

I liked it a lot, smaller than ABoston for sure but for a 1st year con it was pretty nice.

Panels were kind of a crapshoot, but they had a lot of gundam stuff (that I wasn't into) which was good for the fans.

I'd go again for sure, mostly because I live real close.

>> No.9714400

>>9714124
Public NE cosplay gatherings aren't worth it because of the accessibility of younger/cringe crowd. Smaller ones that aren't as publicized may work. I suggest having a friend go with you in case you wanna split elsewhete. But like others said, a lot of the good cosplayers stay away and con setting is the best way to try socializing.

NoSuchCon in Poughkeepsie is scheduled for Feb. 23-25.

For the 4 years I have been going to this con, its first 2 years were great, but unfortunately the last 2 had so much left to be desired. I'm hoping they will get their act together this year and start acting like a convention again, and not just an anime marketplace like last year.

>> No.9714941

>>9714302
It was alright. You didn't even need a badge if you weren't hitting the dealer's room or artist alley. Lots of people came Saturday and Sunday to ghost it since you could walk through most of Javits without badge check or security checking your bags and props.

So how about that Southcoast Comic Con drama? First they change their other con's name to Boston Anime and get sued by Anime Boston when the refused to change it back. Now they refuse to fire or make attendees aware that a registered sex offender is running their photobooth. The staff member voluntarily quit after the story went viral, but how bad are these people at running a con?
