Seagulls have that special touch of black pessimism and being dead inside that really contrasts well with the pink, frilly, feminine style of lolita and jfash. Makes for a special cocktail of a conundrum that creates some really funny people

(I know not all lolita is pink but pink and other easter/spring colors are my favorite style of lolita so its what im going to use for my example)

I'm male and I come here for cosplay, not Lolita/jfash. I honestly think that the male:female ratio depends on the thread since a lot of males only are interested in cosplay as a fetish and not as a hobby. They look for hot chicks dressed in skimpy outfits which makes them (anonymously) willing to berate anyone that they don't find fappable. It also makes them toxic to new cosplayers that are still learning the basics. Most cosplayers that I have met in person are extremely friendly and willing to share their techniques, even the internet famous ones, save for the people that don't make their own costumes.

But I have noticed the uptick in incels and people complaining about not getting attention for their costumes. I know a number of guys who only cosplay because they think it will get them to meet hot cosplay chicks. They end up doing a crap job and then they ask why I get more attention, but refuse to listen to anything I have to say. I also have female friends that get upset when someone has the same cosplay and it's "better" than theirs.

The reason I even bother posting around here is for stuff like self-post, suggestions, WIP and help threads. I do somewhat enjoy the drama and con gossip, but what I find helpful about this board is the brazen honesty that people have when they don't have an internet persona to maintain. Most cosplay groups on facebook are so concerned with protecting their image that saying anything negative about another cosplayer will get you blackballed. Plus you can never go against the people that are "popular" in the community. And yes, I have had people here tell me that cosplays that placed at contests at 15K+ cons sucked when I posted them as WIPs. But others gave insightful input that I probably wouldn't have gotten elsewhere.
