Doing a dump of coords from this old Japanese geocities page, I've seen some before (I think they were collated in that oldschool imgur folder) but others I don't recognise at all. Greentext courtesy of Google translate.

By the way, the translation in OP >>9596790 was shit. It should read something more like:
>5年程前に研修で訪れた街のウィンドーに飾れたヴィクトリアンメイデン様のパティシエールワンピースの生成にひと目惚れ。それ以来収集して着るようになりました。今ではクローゼットに沢山…コスプレ衣装より多いような。こちらでは私聖羅と友人、イベントで撮らせていただいた写真を展示しています
>Five years ago I fell in love with the generation colourway of Victorian Maiden-sama's Patissiere One Piece that was in the window display of the city that I visited during the training. I have collected and wear it since. Now a lot in the closet ... more like a cosplay costume. Here I display the photographs I took with the Seira and friends, at the event

The timeline and translation is confusing since the site is "copyright 2005.2" but she says she bought that OP "five years before". According to Lolibrary Patissiere OP was released in 2002, but it doesn't make sense for a 2002 OP to be her first lolita piece when there are photos in the collection like >>9596863 that are explicitly dated as early as October 2001. Even if she was rounding up to five years, Patissiere must be at least 2001, possibly 2000 (if VM even displayed in physical shops as early as 2000).
https://lolibrary.org/items/victorian-maiden-patissiere-op

I tried to look it up on VM's website using the Wayback Machine to check where that 2002 date might have come from, but I couldn't find that OP in their catalogue at all.

One of the things that surprised me when looking it up was just how many releases VM had on their webshop even as early as 2001. They were a really big brand by lolita standards then and held a lot of events, no wonder they got so many full-page spreads in the early G&LBs. Makes me wonder if their sporadic releasing now is really because of the design replicas and lack in popularity or if it's just the designer stepping back, or even getting bored and running out of ideas.

I also found myself a new oldschool dream dress while looking for it, and it's absolutely fucking beautiful:

Also, I don't suppose these items are too interesting to anyone else, but here's confirmation that brands themselves made sock toppers and they weren't just hand-made. I have a pair of old BtSSB "wristcuffs" that are so loose I always wondered if they were perhaps originally intended as sock toppers.

>How to use is various like stopping socks and collar etc.
>I am using plenty of stretchy lace and I will squeeze it with a ribbon again,
>When you use it as a sock stop,
>Overnight ~ Ankle It can correspond to socks of any length.
(the fact that ankle socks get a mention also confirms their presence in some form as an item in oldschool)

That pair aren't on lollibrary but another similar set of garters from a few years later are:
https://lolibrary.org/items/victorian-maiden-lace-garter-belt-one-pair

I really need to learn how to make these (although I doubt I could find wide enough lace locally). I wear through the toes and heels of socks first and something like this would be so fucking useful and make lolita laundry so much easier - it'd save me having to either be kinda gross and avoid washing or only handwash the feet for as long as possible, or washing properly and then having to re-starch and re-iron every time.

Plus, here's a dump of Victorian Maiden wallpapers. These are interesting fresh content because they're not just duplicates of shoots from magazines - I recognise some of the models and coords from G&LB shoots but the photos and framing are different. They're also dated, which always makes me excited in oldschool since so much of our research is based off imagedumps of unsourced photos.

This one is for July 2002 and matches a shoot in G&LB 5, also from July 2002.

Thanks! I always get dispirited when these threads are started with a dump of street snaps everyone's already seen from Tumblr. The threads have been kinda dead lately and we can't have discussions of new oldschool coords without accusations of selfposting since most of them browse here, so I thought it was about time to contribute some OC.

>>9596977
Dumping snaps from the coordinate section of their site now:
https://web.archive.org/web/20040607161119/http://www.victorianmaiden.com:80/victorian_room/coordinates.html

(the wallpapers were all from here: https://web.archive.org/web/20030407092427fw_/http://www.victorianmaiden.com:80/wpaper/index.html))

Mostly sadly only have ant-sized pics archived, summer 2003.

I recently bought a velvet jsk from 2004, its got cotton eyelet lace panels and velvet bows just above those panels.
the dress needs to be taken to a dry cleaner to get the years of age out of the lace and bring it back to life. ive been putting it off because summer is not the time for extremely heavy velvets.
the bows above the panels have probably never been steamed into shape, theyre in a drooping position deeply creased into this shape, i can pull them into a nice bow shape but they immediately droop back. im hoping i can ask the dry cleaner for any options to get these deep creases out of the bows and have them open again but i was hoping an old schooler could give me some advice.
is it possible to spray starch the bows into their proper shape after its been dry cleaned and steamed? does spray starch leave any noticeable residue on black velvet? any better way of bringing this dress back to its glory days?
>pic related is dress, cant see bows above the lace in pic bc of exposure though.

When I've bought them on eBay though a lot are sheer or way too white. Is there an easy source for white/black knee-highs and OTKs IRL? Are school socks the best bet? It's back-to-school sale time right now but I'd have to make a special trip to a large supermarket to look.

I like the atmosphere of black florals but, kind of weirdly, I feel like they only look appropriate indoors in old buildings? Floral seems weird for winter even in black, and the dusty colours of dried flowers mixed with black don't fit outdoors in summer. Maybe I just don't have enough gothic sensibility to appreciate it. Indoors they look like they belong, with antique furniture and wallpaper and dusty dried flowers in vases.

I can't help thinking that this perfect look would be destroyed the moment you stepped out of the door here though. I was thinking I might need a very dark brown instead of a bluish black. At first I thought the wig fibres just weren't as good-quality as on brown and blonde wigs I own, but when some friends of mine with naturally dark hair tried them on for Halloween they looked fine and very natural, whereas on me they look super obviously "wiggy" even if I darken my eyebrows and do heavier make-up.

Anyway, I'm done. That's every coord VM put on the website for 2003 that's accessible (some I'd never seen before appeared to be dead links but if you amended the URL it was actually just the first page in the gallery that wasn't archived and you could pull other photos out). There are coords for other years I might come back and post another time.

>>9598069
You're welcome anon. I've always loved old VM ads and I hope some people are inspired to start buying and wearing more of it from this dump. I love how formulaic oldschool sweet can be but it also bores me sometimes, so the "freer" styling in old classic lolita is an interesting change of pace.

(I like how the seller knew enough about the item to say the original price was 48k yen, but left out that that was 16 years ago)

The white velveteen OP in >>9597307 is also on LM. The price is higher but it might work out cheaper for an EU buyer since velveteen's a bitch to ship and customs are a thing:

Have you tried steaming it? Steaming alone might fix the floppy bows.

I have no specific experience of using spray starch on velvet, but I was surprised when I starched some OTKs that it seemed to leave any residue on black socks or lace. You might be able to proceed with caution.

Another solution might be to tack the bows into place with small stitches on each corner. If you do it right they shouldn't be visible and should cause less damage than pinning it would.

Ah really? I've never seen a white brand pair that plain, they usually have small details like scallops at the top. I did see Meta put out some similar ones a while back but even though the site called them knee-high they were obviously only calf-high when worn (and also ribbed like football socks, which I found really weird-looking).
https://www.metamorphose.gr.jp/product/detail/11724

There's a plain Moitie pair on auctions right now that I was considering, but the seller wanted something crazy like 3000y bid 5000 BIN for them when they've always sold on the Western market for like $15 because that style's just not popular (according to Lolibrary they were only 1700y new ffs). Plus the Moitie ones are black and I already managed to find some plain black knee-highs and thigh-highs, it's white that's proving hardest to find in adult sizes and non-costume quality.

I snagged this 2006 angelic pretty "JSK with ribbon bolero" from rakuten! It is that signature old school full rose color that defies definition. The lace is also more of a classic beige so I am planning on purchasing some new items to match or tea dye some white things. The ribbon on the bolero is removable: it can slide on and off a little strip of fabric that fastens with a clear button. It is quite large with some back shirring. The tag is sewn on the front inside layer which was surprising. It's a really cute and elegant set.

This hobby is so addicting.

Like the other anon said, why not use Tenso instead of waiting for an SS to bid? I can see how it's risky if your customs frequently open packages though, since Tenso don't discard original documents and invoices that have the real, non-marked-down value on them. It works well to the UK because our customs charge a lot of fees but rarely open mail unless they think it's suspicious (in five years of heavy online ordering, often multiple large packages a month for the past two years, I've never had them open a parcel to try to work out the real value, although I've heard horror stories of it happening).

I put off using it for way too long myself, I only got an account when I was forced to because I wanted to buy a new AP release, and I carried on using FromJapan exclusively for a year until I realised how much money Tenso saved on some purchases. Especially now FJ have reviewed their policies so they behave more like a forwarding service than an SS half the time anyway, Tenso is super useful for sites like Wunderwelt and CC it's easy to order from yourself. For sites that require emailing in orders or anything complicated (Maidenclothing, some small brands without a cart system) I'll usually use an SS anyway, even if they allow Tenso addresses or ship international, since it's not worth the hassle to me.

They also let you ship to whatever address you want, unlike FJ which force you to ship to whichever you paid for the auction with on PayPal (a massive pain in the ass if you spend time at two addresses or are about to move).

(It literally took me about 30 seconds to find those, have you never used Lolibrary before or something?)

Bottom right is some variation on the Lace Frill JSK that's either not on lolibrary or not named as such. I'd guess 2004-2008, could guess more with detailed pictures of lace and care tag.

Pretty sure the blouse is Maxicimam, with probably a name like "crown embroidery blouse", but cannot find any exact info.

The skirt in the top row is the Scallop Hem Skirt by Baby, judging from the stock picture the 2003 release.
https://lolibrary.org/items/btssb-scallop-hem-skirt

The top row cutsew appears to be the cap sleeve T-shirt.
https://lolibrary.org/items/btssb-baby-cap-sleeve-t-shirt

For the bottom row cutsew I don't have an exact match, however this lolibrary listing looks close, except for the collar. Looks like those sleeves are detachable! I'm betting it is some sort of earlier release of this item.
https://lolibrary.org/items/btssb-square-yoke-cutsew

The headbow is the trump lace headbow, which had many releases as well.
https://lolibrary.org/items/btssb-trump-lace-head-bow-2007

The bear bolero (?) I could not find anything on, I'm sorry.

What do you struggle to grasp about oldschool styling? I think people sometimes think it's harder than it is because many of the efamous oldschool lolitas are interested in pushing the envelope with risky coords, but at its core oldschool styling is mostly incredibly formulaic, esp. for sweet, and you don't actually have to artfully mismatch anything or figure out when black shoes with a light-coloured coord looks good and when it just looks weird. As long as your items are all old you can go simple and match everything to the lace on the dress.

Say you have a pinkxwhite JSK. You wear a white blouse, a white or pinkxwhite headbow, white socks, and white shoes (or one of the rare pairs of period-appropriate pink shoes, like Heart Buckle shoes), and maybe a necklace. Or you can use black shoes and a black bag for earlier styling. The exact same applies to redxwhite, saxxwhite and so forth.

Also I tried using lolibrary, but no matter what i searched or did the items were always unrelated to what i searched? Maybe I'm doing it wrong.

>> No.9602568

>>9602558
Sometimes you just have to comb through all the entries for a category to see if it comes up. Search "Baby coat" on lolibrary and then look through all seventeen pages - if you still can't find it get back to us, it's easier for anons to search if we know where you've already looked. It seems like fleece to me but you might as well wait until it arrives to find out for sure. If it was pilling Wunderwelt should have mentioned it in the description.

Some items have generic names but a lot of items on lolibrary are tagged or named according to their features, so if you search those features they'll come up. I found that skirt in 30 seconds by searching "baby scallop skirt" - it was on the first page. I knew that brands often call card suit motifs "trump" in their names, so I searched "trump head bow" and again, that headbow came up immediately. Likewise, in my (fruitless) search for the bear ear bolero I tried variations on "bear" + "parka"/"cutsew"/"hood"/"bolero", then put the same words into Google translate to get Japanese to search to see if I could find it on any shop blogs.

Lace Frill I just knew by sight.

>> No.9602576

>>9602558
Also, you can search by colour, material or suspected year of release, although you may miss stuff that way because entries can be incomplete. If a lolibrary entry was made with data from a shop on the Wayback Machine they'll usually have info on all the colourways, but when it was put together through only seeing an item in a scan, the only colourway they're sure exist may be the one pictured, so other colours may exist but not have been named in the entry. Or a lot of brands have released stuff in different materials at different times (or the same time), so you might not be able to find an exact, say, velveteen piece but may find a piece with an identical design that was released in cotton and is probably from the same period.

It's harder to search without the advanced search back the way it was, but the search box has some advantages (like catching similar spellings and misspellings of keywords).

>>9602568

I wonder if i am doing something wrong then? If i search "baby coat" probably only 40-60% of the results are actually coats

>> No.9602654

>>9602585
It puts items with both of your keywords first, then after that it'll list things that match either one of them, which is why you're getting things with the keyword Baby in them that are not coats. The entire first few pages of results for me are still coats.

Also, you can use quotes to outline a specific phrase, but in this case that wouldn't help. It's really useful for items with generic names that you remember exactly, or when the similar results algorithm is throwing up things you don't want (e.g. if you search 'velvet' it'll also come up with listings saying 'velveteen', which is usually useful, but if you remember that the specific piece you were looking for was called velvet only you can put '"velvet"' and it won't give you the extra results). You can't use Boolean operators in the search field though, as far as I can tell. And searching every item released that year/whatever isn't back up yet but you can still find a lot of yearly results by just putting the year in the search field, e.g. "angelic pretty jsk 2003". This is useful if you've seen an item in a scan that you roughly know the date of (if you go to fujisan.jp's Gothic & Lolita Bible listings they tell you the exact date of release of past issues).

They're definitely OTKs on me at 5'4" so I guess what they have marked as OTKs must be thigh-high unless you're tall. They stay up well and the quality's fine but they still have that tiny bit of shininess a lot of offbrand black socks do from having lycra or whatever in the blend instead of just cotton.

Anyone here have experience heat-styling their hair (or even a wig) for ringlet curls? What barrel width do you use? I bought a 25mm barrel curler and it seems maybe slightly too big, but the next step down from most brands is 10mm, which seems way too small. I can at least use a wider curler for other hairstyles but a too-narrow one is kind of useless to me.

Nah, that stuff I get and love (that's honestly how I coord my more modern stuff when I'm feeling lazy anyway). I just have very modern tastes in a lot of ways, like preferring chiffon blouses over cotton, not loving most old-school hair styles, sometimes enjoying more modern ways of coording. I just really love a lot of oldschool main pieces, too.

tl;dr I like oldschool dresses and don't want to dress like it's 1999

9604248

>>9604243
I don't see any issue with that; I have a lot of oldschool pieces that I style very modern and it's pretty cool because my coords will look oldschool at first glance, but if you pay attention to more detail then they will have a more modern feel. However, I wear Gothic so I feel like this it's easier to pull off in that sense.

If you want to look more oldschool with your oldschool, then I suggest maybe trying to style more like the 2005-2007 transitional period or just finding some really nice pieces that are an exception to what you usually wouldn't like, like a very silky cotton blouse or an updated version of a rectangular headdress, like pic related.

>> No.9604282

>>9604243
That's fine though, as long as you don't tag it as oldschool. I'm committed to that 2002 aesthetic and obsessed with getting every detail accurate (my jimmies are seriously rustled by seeing people post "oldschool" coords that are anything but), but I'll also wear pieces in more modern coords. I'd just say it's oldschool-inspired or whatever. I actually really like what Misako called "traditional lolita", where they're using those same sorts of colour schemes and main pieces they've been re-releasing for years, but have used more modern shoes, bags, blouses, make-up and hairstyling with it. KERA have also done a few spreads of this "standard" lolita style, like this 2014 one that's often mistakenly tagged as oldschool:
https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/16/98/58/1698584e39ee3374dfed332f8982daca.jpg

https://youtu.be/E0izDSIrrus?t=51s
(the one in the video is pretty close to just being oldschool unless you want to get anal about the release years and colour of the hair accessories, but she's used the term a few times for less period-accurate oldschool stuff, and often wears outfits with things like the Dessert OP combined with a modern MILK heart bag and shoes)

If it looks good, why not? A dress having an old design doesn't mean you can't do modern things with it.

Another thing you can do if you want to do authentic oldschool is just pick out all of the things you *do* like from old snaps. There are ways to wear oldschool with chiffon blouses, no ringlets, no peter pan collars, no lace-top socks, no bloomers and no chunky shoes if that's your thing, as long as you get the details of those pieces right. A lot of the things people make out are essentials were just common, not ubiquitous - Moitie have been releasing chiffon blouses since forever, for example. The downside is that noobs won't read it as oldschool and might try to school you on how to "improve" your coord.

I love it. Especially with the weird lighting and slight Gaussian effect to the photos of the models. It sorta looks like they are in the anime version of a hammer horror film.

Me too. I always liked the more grown up looking victorian classic stuff like VM ITT and the stuff JetJ was putting out at around this time... It looked like a more youthful and low makeup version of victorian or period goth, kinda. I moved out of lolita and back to western goth when it abandoned that aesthetic.

Who got this Moitie skirt? I've wanted it for ages but was holding off on spending until I saw what the damage from DMC was, and it sold.
(auctions link because their own store page for it has 404'd)

I couldn't tell from CC's shitty pics if that was real lace or a screenprint, but if it was a screenprint I think it might have been this:

I want this so bad but it wouldn't fit my bust if I tried.
black velveteen Baby op, with bodice lace reminiscent of Isabel OP.
does someone know the year on this?

What's the consensus on modern headdresses with oldschool? This AatP one is tempting me by its wideness and amount of lace, but I feel like the shape and bows especially make it look obviously like a modern design, even though it's not got tulle lace or anything.

(if anyone else wants it don't feel bad for sniping it, I have way too many black headdresses anyway)

It look fine for oldschool for me

A few people might clock it as not authentic oldschool (unless you remove the bows), but most people won't care since it fits the look well enough. It's like how Ophelia always used to wear that 2012 IW bonnet:

Imo this can definitely work for oldschool!

They're like 2 or 3 currently available floating around mercari or frill

Was eyeing this a while back, couldn't identify it, what would you say the bust/waist size is? The length is probly 87-89

That bonnet is so good with oldschool, Ophelia made it work.

If you get that anon, I'll buy the cutout/eyelet lace headbow if you stick it on LM for a reasonable price (it's not like it matches Hawase doll anyway but I have the matching blouse and petticoat for that).
