I followed in Georgie's footsteps and started using my Facebook like page as a mini blog, I really like how it's going so far. It's so much easier to update and you get a ton more post interactions.

I hope more gaijin gyaru start using their public pages as mini blogs, since we don't have crooz. We are all on Facebook anyway.

Fave brand- Cocolulu
Fave piece- probably this tshirt, it's just really bright and looks good with everything
As for tropical coords, I normally think of some summery outfits for when I go camping, but I do more of a surfer/beach bum look as amekaji goes more that way.

I honestly have next to no knowledge on Gyaru, I only do EGL and have been getting into Mori, thats why I'm reaching out to build a panel of people who know about their specific substyles and can look at who's submitting things and say if its actually anything worth anything... Rather then having a pleb submit a panel or for a booth who just started learning about whatever fashion because of a crappy click-bait article with no vetting.

I'd rather outsource and find people who really love their substyles and talk with them to get what's wanted by their communities rather than skim the surface with what I can find from a few google-searches and fuck it up guessing. What would you say are some good gyaru basics for a normie who wants to get into this fashion? Items mostly, but also things to know. I've been into larme, but it's a bit too tame for me. I like how you can have blonde, curly hair, wear animal prints, and be less conservative with gyaru... I've hardly picked my own clothes or cared about fashion til recently, btw, so sorry if this sound dumb as fuck.

>> No.9540301

>>9540243
It really depends on the substyle. It sound like you like tsuyome, so here's what I would recommend:

-curling iron/extensions/curly wig/half wig
-short shorts, either denim or animal print, or even both
-d.i.a belt
-some stick on deco stiletto nails to try out
-a range of leopard print, blingy, or generally flashy tops- again, d.i.a is queen
-chokers or big flashy pendants
-hair flowers, feathers, or other flashy hair accessories
-a couple of cocktail dresses
-some strappy heels
-knee high or otk boots, platform or stiletto
-fluffy leg warmers
-diamond lash upper lashes- glamorous eye and angel eye are good
-some spiky or feathery lower lashes
-circle lenses
-self tanner, fake tan, dark foundation etc

Most of the above isn't necessary as such, but it's a good foundation for the style.

Basically, get the makeup, hair and accessories, as well as basics like shorts and shoes, then lurk the fb sales for tops, dresses and other stuff- gyaru resells a lot cheaper than most other jfash so if you're a seasoned sales stalker you can build up a small wardrobe quite quickly. looks good! My only suggestion maybe is to consider not taking the black liner right to the corners of your eyes and taking the white shadow a little further along the lower lid. You have quite close-set eyes and doing lower eyeliner like this only emphasizes it.

You definitely have the make-up down as other anons have said, but sometimes it pays to tweak looks just a little but to suit your features.

Don't go out and toast yourself on sunbeds in the middle of the day. The best way to do it is to be patent and build up your tan slowly. Keep wearing sunscreen with a medium spf and build up the tan my spending time in the sun, avoiding the times when the sun is at its strongest.

Don't use sunbeds if you can absolutely help it, they are much worse for you than building up a tan outdoors.

This is the best way to do it to protect your skin. Please be aware though there is still an increased cancer risk. Also tanning will cause premature aging if you do it regularly. Genetics aside, being very cautious about sun exposure is one of the reasons Asians often look relatively young.

Another tip is to only go for a light tan in the safest way possible and then use a bit of bronzer on your face in the areas you would naturally catch the sun. It can give the impression of being more tan than you actually are. Just don't overdo it. You can also dust a little on the tops of your arms and thighs.

You can also probably get away with using a foundation 1-2 shades darker than your skin tone but for the love of god, blend it well and make sure you don't look orange.

You can avoid damaging your skin entirely by using fake tan. Use moisturiser on dry areas like kneecaps and a good quality mousse tan. build up in small layers to get a natural finish. That's the safest way. Or you can use gradual tanner which activates the tan without the sun. That gives you your actual tan colour, when I use that I do one layer on one night, making sure i clean it off the palms of my hands. I wait for it to develop and do another layer the next night, and so on. I'd repeat for about 3-4 nights for a very dark tan. This actually makes you more photosensitive so you need to wear suncream when you use gradual tanner. I'd mix the two for an extreme tan.

I don't fake tan anymore these days, but really sun damage isn't worth the cancer risk or the aging which happens much faster than you think.

Is it even worth it to be a busty gyaru? I really struggle with finding tops and dresses that will fit my bust size (34DD), and I'm admittedly pretty frustrated. It just feels like everything in sales groups are too small for me. Does anyone feel my pain or have some tips?

Hey anon, I have that same chest measurement and I find that tsuyome brands are more forgiving to larger chests. I basically wear d.i.a. exclusively for my gal coords now and I don't normally have a problem. In the attached pic, I weighed like 190 so my chest measurement was something like 41 inches but that top still fit well, and now that I'm back down to my normal bra size 34DD it fits very well.

I will say, you should probably get comfortable going braless unless you can find really cute, non padded bras. At our size the padding only makes the fit much tighter and more uncomfortable.

I find that agejo and himekaji brands cater to smaller chest measurements so if that's more your style I suggest looking for things with shirring or finding suitable off brand items.

Any recommendations for a good gradual or self tanner, then? I shower often, exfoliate everytime I shower, and have no AC at home so I'm a sweaty mess. Those are all things that ruin self tanner, and I don't have the time to bother trying to reapply it every single day and wait an hour for it to try. I've tried two kinds (jergens and banana boat) and disliked both. How do gyaru tan? Tanning beds?

>> No.9546936

>>9546920
Oldschool gyaru used to use tanning beds and/or apply shitloads of fake tan and just not shower (o-gyaru). I don't think sunbed tanning is quite as popular these days. Maybe look into Japanese tanning products? I mostly use sunbeds, but I think Garnier Summer Body is a nice topup- the effect is noticeable overnight and it leaves your skin feeling, looking and smelling great. Right now I'm experimenting with topping it up every night to see if I can build a deep tan without using the sunbed anymore.

op here, I'm seconding >>9546936 who said they use garnier summer body. I can get quite an intense tan with that, minus any actual sunbed tanning. I'd completely avoid any palmers gradual tanner, it has the most disgusting fake chocolate smell on earth that stinks for literally 48 hours on your skin and after an hour just smells like burned plastic.

As for showering, do it after showering and then go to bed. that way you're reducing time spent moving it around and stuff. After a bit of practice it was just a 10 minute routine before bed. It does continue to develop into the next day but if you dislike the smell or the fact it can be a bit sticky (like moisturizing your entire body) then shower it off in the morning. It doesn't need to be perfectly dry before you put some clothes on, but i'd put down an old sheet on top of your nice sheets because the tan can stain a white sheet sometimes, especially if you're doing it gyaru style.

You should get St Tropez Self Tanner, it's a bit more on the expensive side but doesn't look as shitty.
They have a very dark tanner where you only need a little bit of compared to drugstore brand.

What kind of exfoliation do you use?
Best is to get an italy towel, scrub yourself properly and apply moisturizer, then shower the next day without moisturizer and apply the tanner. + Everyday moisturizer and you'll have a flawless tan.

Alright, serious question. I've been trying to figure it out for years and I just can't get my hand on it (I'm not a gyaru myself obviously):

What exactly makes gyaru? I'm not trying to offend (and I might have just seen bad coord because I have no clue how to even tell something is gyaru), but all I've seen seems to be ganguro, normal looking girls and girls looking like Las Vegas strippers. I just can't find the connection, or a definition that is not being really vague about what makes something gyaru and not another style, and I'm serious curious.

>> No.9581833

>>9581752
Basically, gyaru has taken on a whole variety of different looks through its history, and there are two 'branches' of gyaru- those following the first generation Shibuya gals in glamorous, feminine styles, and those following the later Ikebukuro gals in sexy, wild styles. Those two branches in the history of the style are how it has managed to produce such a variety of looks- the common root would be kogal, the schoolgirl look with the blonde/brown hair and loose socks.

neojaponisme has a GREAT blog series about the history of gyaru, and Japanese Schoolgirl Inferno goes into it a little too.

The elements that have survived from the very beginning of gyaru, which you will find in nearly all substyles, are these:
>coloured hair, usually light, not always blonde but rarely black
>glamorous/dramatic eye makeup with enlarging circle lenses and long false eyelashes, usually both top and bottom lashes, often lashes and shadow are used to create a new eye shape
>glamorous face makeup featuring contouring, highlighting etc
>an overall 'glamorous', 'extra', larger-than-life look- when you see japanese gyaru in the flesh, they really turn heads regardless of their substyle
>distinctively styled hair, often with extensions and a lot of volume
>decorated nails, often acrylics, ranging from cute feminine designs to huge claws with plushies dangling off them

Those are really the only common features I can think of right now, the variation across different styles of gyaru is crazy.

Most people would say that the hair and makeup are what makes a look gyaru as opposed to other styles- if you look at something like goshikku gyaru, it's differentiated from regular goth or vkei by the distinctive hair, makeup and nails, and an overall feminine/glamorous look.

Most gyaru substyles have a root in a Western or international style, for example:

>california girl -> kogal and amekaji
>beverly hills princess, paris hilton -> hime, agejo
>goth, rock, skater -> rokku, goshikku
>00s trashy christina aguilera style -> tsuyome
>hip hop -> b-gal, ora-ora

Then some looks such as onee and himekaji are inspired by more everyday, less extreme Western looks.

The big exception are the extreme tanning styles like manba, ganguro, banba and kurogal- these really don't have a Western root at all, they're not inspired by black culture or anything like that, it's just an extreme style that came out of wanting to scare pervy salarymen away back in the kogal days.

Then, in 2015 or so there was a rival unite of bdia for a short time with only white skinned gyaru.

Hii ~ im new to gyaru and have a question.
i read a lot of stuff about this style(s) online.(tumblr, bloggs, scanns). and i like the agejo and hime style. what im asking myself and wanted to know is: when do i know that my style is gyaru? or when can i call myself a gyaru? what i see when i look trought instagram/scanns that most gyarus have make up that is focused on their eyes and have "big hairstyle" that fits theire style. i am right with that?
and if someone have ideas for hairstyles, that works with a receding hairline that would be also nice(its not much, but enough that i can't even style bangs, with out it looks awkward.. and right know i dont think that a wig a thing is cause most are shit and the good ones are too expensive at the beginning).

just a cheap aliexpress lacefront is good, or one from a black hairshop.

>> No.9587344

>>9587304
For both these styles, especially for hime the big hair is a necessity and can easily be achieved with prisila wigs (for the beginning you'd need 2-3 of them which'd be like 100$ or so). I'd stay away from 'cheap wigs' because they also will look cheap if you've got no idea what you have to search for.

With the makeup you're right
>eye focused
>fake lashes upper and lower!
>nose contour (though with hime and agejo it doesn't need to be heavy/too obvious)
>bright lipstick colours in the pink spectrum (at least for the styles you choose)

A sunkissed tan =/= extreme tanning like ganguro, manba, yamanba, banba and kurogal. Kogal and ganguro are on different levels. Kogal is very clearly inspired by cali looks, ganguro is where it starts to break away into its own more extreme look (not just the tan but the platforms and contrasting white makeup, that doesn't resemble any contemporary US look) and then by the time you get to yamanba it's completely its own thing with very little influence from outside of Japan.

It's really a bit worrying how many anons in this thread know nothing about the history of gyaru, and more worrying how they try to cover it up by making up complete bullshit. Just go read up on it, it'll take like ten minutes of your life.

Gyaru and ganguro are not interchangeable. While “slight” tanning was very popular among early 90s gyaru, extremely dark skin was typically exclusive to ganguro, it’s iterations/evolutions. Neojaponisme explains how most “yankii” or sukeban (biker-gang girls) eventually became gyaru by the end of the 90s which caused gyaru to move away from it’s “roots” and into more rebellious forms such as ganguro. The roots of gyaru being kogals or kogyaru from the early 90s. “Most early kogyaru [were] coming from the top private schools”, were wealthy and most likely a part of the “burgeoning generation of rich kids who hung out in Shibuya, [who have] spurned this designer-driven approach to fashion, preferring a laid-back preppy vibe.” When lower middle class girls adopted kogyaru trends they “tanned themselves a much darker color and colored their hair in silver-y streaks called messhu (from the french mèche)”, eventually adopting “platform boots [which] bucked the traditional idea that women should be diminutive in both attitude and physical size (Namba 2006).” So when ganguro came into the scene around ‘99 or so, they were trying to break away from the yuppie-led kogal style from the early 90s and rebel against cultural beauty standards such as light skin and a generally demure manner (see the yamato nadeshiko trope for a good description of the ideal Japanese woman). As is often the case with youth fashions like this, the look becomes more and more extreme as followers try to differentiate themselves from one another.

>Former Editor-in-Chief of egg said “The source [of gyaru style] was surfer clothing and accessories, but then people who would have been called yankii a decade ago mixed into that. Gyaru style is the clothing of a certain type and also a reaction against society” (Namba 2006).[x]
The Ganguro B-style that focuses on hip-hop is almost certainly cultural appropriation and misrepresentation,
