When it comes to dolls and stuffed animals, there's a time and place for it. I wouldn't go to a meet casually with some friends out to dinner or something with a plush backpack let alone carrying a stuffed animal with me. Likewise with dolls, if I were still into them. At a larger meet, even if it's in public, I'd feel a little better with a plush bag and I probably wouldn't judge anyone with their doll if they brought one (so long as it's suitable).

Conventions, I feel like anything goes. I'll buy plush while I'm in the dealers room and walk around with it. I'll wear plush backpacks like nobody's business. I don't care.

Animal ears are fine so long as they're of good quality and match the coord. I'm 100% down with brand animal ears and ones from established indie brands who make good stuff. But again, time and place. I wouldn't go out in bunny ears to meet a friend for coffee, but I'd wear them with an appropriate coordinate to a more appropriate location or event. Those sort of things take the coordinate into OTT territory.

>What do you think of lolitas carrying stuffed animals?
It looks cute but I'd prefer if people never did this at meets (unless it's a con), since the general public always associate it with ageplay (or with people with mental disabilities who need comfort toys) and it causes problems for the rest of us. Unless it looks like you just bought it and are carrying it home, hugging a soft toy as you walk around makes people whisper about how they think you might literally be retarded, especially when you're already wearing childish clothes. Stuffed animal bags or bag charms can be okay but often produce the same reaction, so still a little awkward.
>What do you think of lolitas carrying dolls?
Again, looks cute by itself, makes you look mental in public.
>What do you think of lolitas wearing animal ears?
It's tacky and I hate it, I don't even think it's cute. For some reason I think bear ears are the least awkward, cat ears and bunny ears have worse associations and look stupider.

>inb4 "but we all look equally weird to normies!!! do what u want and ignore the norms!!"
There's a quantifiable difference in the nastiness of the response between people thinking you're a girl that's dressed really weird/going to a fancy dress party/in a play and people thinking you're dressed like a kid because you either have the mind of a child or have a fetish for pretending to be one. Yeah, some people will make ageplay assumptions anyway but it'll only be a small amount of people you meet, hugging a stuffie as you walk around guarantees that it'll be nearly everyone.

I have barely anything non-oldschool in my folder to dump for this but I'll have a look, I do have a couple of modern pics with usakumyas kicking around somewhere.

>What do you think of lolitas carrying stuffed animals?
I wish it didn't have the stigma it has (at least in western circles) regarding ageplay and stuff. I think it's generally really cute, especially in sweet or oldschool coords. I love Usakumya and i'm planning on buying a black/red one soon.
I also just really like most stuffed animal bags, as long as they fit the lolita aesthetic. I like slightly 'dark' (for lack of a better term) themed stuffed animals, such as stitched up bunnies/bears.
>What do you think of lolitas carrying dolls?
Classic/vintage dolls and Pulips/BJDs that fit the look are fine with me. I'm not big on dolls but as long as they aren't like... Barbies or Anime character dolls (even BJDs) I don't mind. To put it simply, as long as you aren't carrying around your Hatsune Miku BJD in a classic coord it doesn't phase me.
>What do you think of lolitas wearing animal ears?
If they suit the coord and are high quality I like it. I love the Btssb bunny ear muffs, or pretty much any fluffy animal ear bonnet/headress. However shit like $2 maid cat ears or those tacky metal/deco animal ear headbands look shit and shouldn't be used in lolita. I also dislike realistic animal ears, like the ones that often get sold at con stalls. They need the 'cutesy' aesthetic to work.

Personally I love stuffed animals and I'm not suddenly going to stop keeping them just because I'm an adult. One of the things I love about lolita is that I can still wear clothes based on a fairytale and teddybear prints casually without needing an occasion like Halloween. But dolls and stuffed animals are inconvenient to carry outside. That's why I want to get shoes like pic related, or something similar, if I can find it in my size.

Me too. Honestly I'm not worried about carrying around stuffed animal bags in public- I think they're cute and they fit my lolita style. I highly doubt that randoms on the street even know what ageplay is, let alone care. It's more so that I wouldn't want people in the community speculating if I'm an ageplayer. Which frustrates me because I also don't want to care about their opinions....

Sick of having this argument in every time this comes up but no, older normies mostly don't know the word ageplay, but they still know that there's weird fetish stuff involving kids (although they might just think it's paedophilia) and often have heard jokes about adult babies and the like. Why else would so many lolitas' parents be convinced its a weird fetish thing or must be dressing to appeal to paedophiles? If you look through old posts and blogs about people discussing their families attitude to lolita you can find people complaining about this from ten years ago or more, their family just weren't using the word ageplay. They'll still think you're dressing like a kid to attract pervy pedo old men.

Ageplay is also becoming more and more widely-known among younger people thanks to all the DDLG bullshit trending on tumblr and insta and the amount of Facebook jokes about how it's ~kinky~ to call your boyfriend daddy (and yeah, people have been using that slang for decades but it wasn't considered so kinky and literal before any more than calling your girlfriend "baby" meant you were an ageplayer, whereas now it is strongly associated with ageplay kink)

>> No.9551753

>>9551733

This whole ageplay thing started as a backlash against OTT sweet. It was a way for non sweet lolitas to have some imaginary high ground over being annoyed by trends. It's never really gone away because of the whole mess with dd/lg and sissies inappropriately including lolitas in their kink. There's a lot of animosity against misrepresentation, but lolitas aren't that great at representing themselves to the public anyway. 99% of "documentaries" or shows about it are cringe af. Normal people might wrongly assume it is fetishy, but usually only if you are ita and they'd probably not even know what ageplay is.

Honestly whenever anyone complains about something being too ageplay I translate that to, "I don't personally like this style, but just saying that doesn't add anything to the conversation. So, I will use this straw man to make clothes seem like a bigger deal than they are."

I get that but like I said, I don't really care what randoms I don't know think. I don't wear pastel/OTT sweet either, I lean more towards dark sweet/oldschool so I feel I'm not giving off the 'daddy uwu~' vibes. I'm only worried about the perceptions of people I may have to deal with regularly as it might impact friendships and such in the community.
Hopefully most normie's interpretation of ageplay is confined to the image of girls in choker collars wearing crop tops and school skirts with petplay items and other insta-fashion.

Also going to dump some stuffed animal/fluffy bags I'm a fan of that aren't brand.

It's hard to convey, but I mean that those kind of brands do fit with the lolita aesthetic anyway. Sanrio plushes/characters have that kind of cuteness that doesn't look tacky. Like, Pikachu is cute, but a Pikachu bug or plush would look terrible with a lolita coord, you know what I mean?

Always have and always will think stuffed animals and lolita are fine together. I'm a toy collector and I dress up my stuffed animals to match my coords all the time. I just take pictures with them, though. I wouldn't bring mine to a meet (mostly because I don't go to meets and because it would be inconvenient to carry if I did) but I wouldn't judge anyone who decided to.

I think if the stuffed animal is cute, clean, and matches the coord somehow, it's fine. The ageplay association is dumb so I ignore it. Like >>9551753 said--It's mostly enforced by other lolitas (even sweets) who want to make people feel bad for doing something harmless that they don't like. The "but normies will think lolita is ageplay if you do (x)!" argument is pretty weak imo. If it's true, then it's up to the person lugging around a stuffed animal to bear that burden.

I actually think it works better with pastel/OTT sweet because it blends well with the whole kawaii aesthetic and a lot of non-ageplaying weebs like plushies. Oldschool girls need to stop thinking they look more normal - they don't. OTT sweet is childish but doesn't look like actual childrens' clothes - when have you ever seen kids wearing loud, detailed, digital prints with a ton of accessories? A lot of oldschool/classic solids literally does just look like childrens' clothes of the Victorian era or fifties children's Sunday best (same silhouette and a lot of the same colour schemes and details), so yeah, adding a bear to that is still going to look weird.

I agree that there's no real need to care what randoms you don't know think, but unfortunately for me I'm likely to bump into someone I know from work or university whenever I go out in my city. I don't want rumours spread at university that I go round pretending to be a kid, so I only use my Kuma Kumya-chan bag when I'm at cons.

You've got a point. I generally just associate anything young with pastels/bright colours, at least for current times. I'm not sure many people instantly associate old timey kids clothes with ageplayers now simply because unless they're old themselves, they don't really have any exposure to it. I think old school/classic girls are more likely to get comments about living dolls/musicals and shit like that. But I suppose it varies from person to person.

I shouldn't have too many problems with my career regarding lolita- I'm studying vet nursing and there are a surprisingly large amount of nurses who are into alt fashion.

Maybe I'm not representative because my family are quite into history, but both parents, my aunt, and grandparents on my mum's side have all commented on how much the lolita silhouette looks like Victorian childrens' clothes, as have some friends (I wear a lot of solids, oldschool, gothic and sweet-classic and never wear no overtly-cutesy or childish motifs or stuffed animals). My grandparents on the other side are younger and less middle-class, so their first association is old dolls or 50s clothes because of the silhouette.

I'm UK so can't speak for the US but most adults I speak to absolutely notice that the silhouette looks like old-fashioned kids clothes, it's just younger people and people raised abroad that don't make the association. Most people pick out that it's closer to Victorian dolls than to the 50s poofy silhouette as well (I guess through seeing period dramas and stuff even if they didn't live through the 50s). International students don't make that association at all though so IDK how common it is in other countries, every East Asian I met just thought it looked weeby or generally vintage.

>What do you think of lolitas carrying stuffed animals?
Unless it's one of the stuffed brand bags, then nope. Even if it is some of the stuffed brand bags, it's still a nope. Some of them are derpy as fuck.

>What do you think of lolitas carrying dolls?
Generally, no. But if it's a collab doll whose outfit matches the owner's, then sure. The Pullip family and Volks collabs have been pretty cute over the years.

That said, better suited to conventions than regular meets.

>What do you think of lolitas wearing animal ears?
Eh. Depends on the coordinate and the quality. In genera, it looks stupid. But there's the occasional exception.

Sorry but the editing on this just makes it look like the doll is going to haunt me forever.
