My favourite thing from Moitie is the Holy Queen skirt in black. I wonder what'll be the next most sought after print after Gothic Arch and Iron Gate now that both have new versions? I know Ritual in ivory is really rare but I think that's just because of how it was released.

I've had problems with moitie monochromatic prints peeling. Does anyone else have a similar problem? I got it second hand so it might be the previous seller but she said it was rarely worn and dry cleaned once. The prints are gorgeous but it really turned me of from buying more moitie.

>> No.9535117

>>9535039
Oh gods the zipper is adorable, I love it so much. Honestly I'm not sure how to straighten them out, the nylon version has the stabilizer inside bent out of whack so that's not fixable unless I get creative and take it apart. The faux leather one I haven't figured out either, but I'm hoping that if I keep it stuffed and flat long enough it'll straighten out a bit. I've debated a hair dryer to heat it up and reshape the points, but I've been terrified of causing the glue to break down. What year is yours?

Moitie & resale value, I just get so confused.
Most of the higher priced stuff don't seem to move at all.

Moitie is one of those brands that people think never depreciates, so you'll see people asking what they paid for, and refusing to drop the price. It happens a lot with European Moitie fans, because most of them bought their stuff years ago, when it was ridiculously expensive and difficult to have stuff shipped from Japan. The pool for people actually willing to buy Moitie is also pretty small, so it takes a lot longer for pieces to sell when compared to the sweet market.

There's also not that much moitie desu. Even if nobody is buying an overpriced dress on lacemarket, it's the only one available right now.

>> No.9539042

Dear fellow Euro hardcore MmM fans. No one wants to pay the prices you did in 2010. /I/ don't want to pay those prices. I sold those damn white shoeclips for 12€ last year no one will pay 40 for them. Iron Gate skirt is not worth 600 USD, the jsk is. Basic dresses go for 80-120€ and those are the cold hard facts. I've lost money, lots of other sellers have lost money, that's just how it is. If no one buys your floral flocked jsk for 500€ lower the damn price.

Moitie unshirred stuff can be difficult to find measurements for, see the above convo with the anon with 95cm bust. All of their dresses are usually listed as 82cm bust but actually varies quite a bit irl, so even if you're not fat it can be uncertain whether you fit or not.

Ah, that's good to know! I've never really followed what they go for that closely since they're not a dream item (and the western market is saturated with the replica), but they're a perfect match for some of my items so I'm always tempted.

Haha I always wanted one, but they always were too expensive or snapped up before you could blink. I got lucky and found two in the same weekend, for about $130 each I think? They were different materials and colors, which is how I justified both.... one day I'd love to get the real leather version from the dark ages, or a second black x black one because that goes with 90% of my closet.

Real leather version is definitely the one I'd lay down the cash for, seems like there's way less chance of a leather one having irreparable undisclosed damages like peeling as well. I'm more tempted by the Silent Moon bag that's up right now but I feel like that might be similarly overpriced (and I've always favoured the messenger bag design for it over this one):

Yeah, if they were asking $200+ for the real leather version I'd be all over that. Or if they had the coffin bag that was released at the same time as the leather one. But I've never seen the coffin bag for sale. I will say that a lot of the bat bags are new enough (2010) that they aren't too likely to be peeling.

Oh and people were chatting upthread about storing the bat bags so they warp less/flatten out a bit, I've found stuffing them with newspaper and storing them on their backs works pretty well to flatten them a bit, especially if you flip them occasionally.

The silent moon bag is so pretty! I love Moitie single-color prints, they have so much character. I have this back and forth, do I love the screen prints or the dresses covered in custom lace more? They're both so amazing.

If we're talking bags, Table Ornament's bag is still up and on-sale and I'm dithering over getting the blackxblue. I have a lot of blackxblue Moitie and I don't like to wear crosses (difficult with Moitie) so I've never bought the bat bag or its replicas. The table ornament bag technically doesn't have any crosses on it but I feel like the table arrangement in the centre looks like a cross from a distance and I'm not sure if it's intentional? Not sure if I should just suck it up because I'm pretty sure every other bag Moitie released with a blue colourway except Iron Gate had obvious intentional crosses on it somewhere and this might be the best I'm going to get.

>>9572420
Bag discussions are good! There's some older ones without crosses, although they're generally not the solid feeling pleather ones, they're fabric so they might be navy velvet with white lace.

It doesn't look too much like a cross to me, but I have no aversion to crosses (crucifixes or saint imagrey however is a no-go, true rosaries as well). It must be really hard to avoid crosses though, if Moitie isn't putting them in the print then they're in the lace. Mana loves his crosses.

It's partly for my family's sake rather than my own, since I still live with them. It'd be easier to decide if I'd seen any worn photos of the bag but I haven't seen it pop up on Insta. I even checked Coordisnap and Wear and nada.

Mana sure loves his crosses, I can't get over how edgy this menswear release was.

Moitie is the ultimate lolita brand to me, so iconic. Their dresses are simple, delicate and cute whilst still being dramatic and gothic. To me thats perfect and what lolita should be. No other brand can do what they do. Im finally going to Japan this october and knowing that I can't visit the store makes me cry real goth tears. I dont wear lolita as much as I used to, but moitie is what what made me discover western goth and Im always torn between the two. But when I see moitie I makes me remember why I feel in love with lolita in the first place. I sold a lot of my other brand and I want to build up my moitie collection a bit more when I visist japan.

Also they have the best lace and that makes them superior. Gothic lolita is master race

I've loved reading through this thread. Moitie will always be my favorite!

Maybe you guys can help. I'm trying to place the year of my bat bag (roughly), if anyone has info. The most noticeable difference between mine and stock photos, is mine only has the logo charm on the main compartment and the back zipper is plain. The material is pretty solid and not very soft, is it possible it's an older version? I bought it second hand a few years ago.

>> No.9589758

>>9589679
The material looks like synthetic/faux leather, which Moitie has used on a couple Bat Bag releases, according to lolibrary 2000 and 2010. The 2000 version is pretty sparse on pictures, so it may or may not have the back charm.

Bear in mind however that the Nylon variation of the bat bag from 2004 does have the coffin charm on the back (unless I'm remembering mine wrong, I can't check ATM), which means the 2000 edition might as well. So it's possible the charm on the back was removed or knocked off somewhere. Really it's a toss up unless you can find a product number.

>> No.9591402

>>9589758
Thanks for the input! I thought it may have fallen off too, but unless someone went through the trouble of replacing it seamlessly with a plain zipper pull, I doubt it. If it's to match the main zipper, the charm IS the zipper pull, so if it fell off, there wouln't be anything left.

>>9591311
Same. No tags beyond the brand label. I was kind of hoping to find out what material my bag is. I'm shit at discerning real leather from faux in this case. Does mine look similar to yours in texture?

You're right, that is interesting! Moitie is really poorly cataloged, there might be a release lacking the back charm. I'm actually doing some digging because I'm intrigued. I just checked mine, the material looks similar to yours: very smooth, fine "pores", very regular pattern. I assume mine's faux because of the price. I paid around 180 USD or so, and the real leather version cost over 40000 Yen according to lolibrary.

>>9591432
Thank you for your help!
To be honest, I am a bit worried that it's a replica because the stamp is missing. Also I noticed the coffin zipper differs from the ones seen e.g. here
https://lolibrary.org/items/moitie-blue-cross-bat-hand-bag and here
http://rosenocturnalia.blogspot.co.at/2015/05/review-loris-cross-bat-bag-review-moi.html

While those seem to be stamped in, on my bag zippers the logo and brand name is a relief.

>> No.9591928

>>9591637
I just looked up the 2004 nylon edition, and it has the same zippers as yours. Most likely they changed the zippers for the 2010 release. The bat bag replicas were all from the early era when replicas were much more easily spotted, the lining wasn't even blue as far as I know. You're unlikely to get scammed with one. More than likely yours is one of the early releases, probably 2000. It's really frustrating that I'm away from my collection so I can't compare my 2010 bag to my 2004 bag.

Price secondhand means very little with Moitie, I've gotten a dress that was ¥58000 when it was new for only about ¥10000. Sometimes you get very lucky, especially with the Japanese market so it could be real leather. Thanks for the zipper pictures though, that actually helps a -ton-. Devil is in the details after all, especially with MmM.

>> No.9592254

>>9591637
Mine has the same charm, with the raised logo! They are definitely authentic. Other Anon was right, the fakes made of this bag are pretty generic and lacking most major details.

>>9591432
I really can't tell with mine. The raw edges are frayed and it passes the nail test, which are characteristics of leather, but I think the overall stiffness of the design throws me off and makes me think it's the faux leather release that you mentioned. I know this is a silly thing to think about so much, but I love the mystery behind older pieces.

>> No.9592377

Thank you both!

>>9591928
It would be interesting to know if your 2004 bag has the stamp on the back (or not, like mine); if you happen to think of it when you're back with your collection, maybe you could check?

You are right about second-hand marked prices often being random, it's just that I usually don't get that lucky.

>>9592254
I'll ask a friend of mine who works with leather a lot if she can tell the difference. I don't see her that often though, so it will take a while.

I too love looking up these details to find out when a piece has been made, it's part of the fun when collecting things!

I also love this particular bag very much; it's iconic and it goes with so many dresses, also outside of gothic lolita.

I totally understand the appeal of a good mystery, I've got my own mystery OP from Moitie. From searching the product number I've estimated that it's from 2003 or so, and I've found dresses of similar cuts in that era, but never the exact dress. Amazingly enough that's one of the only dresses I own that I have minimal info on.

Hm. If I had it in hand and could compare it to mine it would be so much easier to tell the material.

>>9592377
My 2004 bag doesn't have the stamping since it's the nylon edition (impossible to stamp that material). I have a strange affection for it, I got it in pretty used condition but damn if it isn't cute (pic related is mine).

I agree that this particular bag is amazing and goes with everything. I'm currently fine-tuning a coord with a velour Meta OP and this bag.

Ok! Some findings. So far, assuming accuracy of blogposts and such, the only bat bag editions I'm finding without the stamp above the back pocket is the nylon and the suede. I found a 2009 post from CC Shinjuku (http://blog.livedoor.jp/closetchildshinjyuku/archives/51098559.html)) with what they're calling a leather bat bag, missing the back zipper but with the stamping.

As far as the zipper goes, it seems to be an old incarnation. If you look at the Loris replica review page, she shows a tiny snap of the leather bat bag, which seems to have the same. So if you have that zipper it likely means your bag is older.
