Can you tell what even half of them are without them telling you explicitly, holding a plushie, etc? There's great effort ones like incorporating the original design elements into the outfit (ie, if it's some bird, sleeves are large and flowy or something) but most gijinkas seem to be "Hey I found this random fabric or piece it's close enough to the color right?" with generic animal ears and suddenly it's "I am Vaporeon."

But in a thread about what you'd like to get rid of for a year...listen, a giginka basically means you can lazily avoid making any difficult parts of anything (even if it's difficult or bikini armor). In making your own design, regardless of the difficulty level, you're able to avoid anything you don't know how to do (like I'm good at making armor, but I hate making lower leg armor that fully wraps around the leg because I always have to install zippers (muscular calves, dainty ankles). In doing my own design I can cheat and design armor without having to do that.

Normally, in making your own design, you sacrifice any recognizability and it's really just dress up and not cosplay. But with gijinkas you've essentially tried to both avoid any crafting element you might personally find difficult, and hang onto being recognized and popular. Tl;dr, it feels lazy. But srsly, it's just a thread for thought, idgaf what y'all actually make.

I wouldn't even get rid of anything. I'd just dumb down all the FotM and titles that seem to take 10% or more of any con's cosplay population in exchange for a wide variety of 90s and early to mid 2000s stuff, and by wide variety I mean actual variety and not just, like, replacing 500 Overwatch cosplayers with 500 FF7 and FFX/X-2 cosplayers and a bunch of Fayes and Felicias.

I'll also take less of the "girl collector" series like Love Live and the stupid anthropomorphized waifubait stuff like Nep, Kancolle, and this new animal one and replace it with similar titles that actually have some substance like Azumanga, Nichijou, and (even though I'm not personally into it) im@s.

Also exchange all the "tacticool" nerds and replace them with mech cosplayers (would gladly take less half-assed MGS for more ZoE OF and pilots).

Azumanga does have other outfits in official art that aren't school uniforms. LL has nicer outfit design yeah, and I don't mind seeing it, but in an ideal conworld I'd rather see 20 different series in 5 minutes, rather than 20 different cosplays from one series in 5 minutes.
