The tasting has several rounds. Each round consists out of a short presentation about the whiskey you are about to taste, followed by a single serving of the whiskey for you to enjoy. In between rounds you can drink water and eat dry biscuits to "reset" your taste buds. Of course you could spit the whiskey out, but that's not how you're supposed to taste a whiskey to begin with.
