It depends on how beginner friendly you want to make it, but here are some more ideas for you to play around with. Also you now owe me a beer.
>Assembling a basic solder kit for beginners. Think solder types, soldering station vs soldering iron with temperature control vs cheap "one temperature fits all", helping hand and all that stuff.
>An introduction to power supplies and calculating battery life. Think traditional batteries in series, (USB) powerbanks, power tool batteries and such. Covering boost converters (ie 5V to 12V) would be nice too, and of course there's the "hours of battery = capacity in mAh / consumption in mA * 0.7" formula for battery life.
>Hooking up a breadboarded prototype, show people how to use a breadboard and explain how there are rows inside so people actually understand how those magical holes work.
>How to use Multicolour LEDs (basic): Show people how to set the colours of basic LED's using nothing but good old fashioned switches or potentiometers if you want more control over the colour mix.
>Light effects (advanced): using a 555 timer, some elco's etc to get a pulsating or blinking light.
>Multicolour LED's (programming): Now that people understand good old analogue technology, it's time to go digital. Changing LED colours with an Arduino 101, go!
>Light effects (programming): Using an Arduino/RPi to get basic effects like pulses, blinking, disco rave mode, and changing them with the flick of a button.
>The Sounds of Science (programming): Let's add sound so we can give off both a cool light effect as well as a "pew pew" when we pull a trigger.
>Common mistakes: Don't forget to add connector shells and "krimpkous" before soldering wires, follow the colour standards for negative, positive and switch wires, and always keep a printed version of your circuit somewhere safe like inside the actual project enclosure.

I assume these tastings are different from wine tastings, where you have to spit it out after tasting?

>> No.9480807

>>9480784
The tasting has several rounds. Each round consists out of a short presentation about the whiskey you are about to taste, followed by a single serving of the whiskey for you to enjoy. In between rounds you can drink water and eat dry biscuits to "reset" your taste buds. Of course you could spit the whiskey out, but that's not how you're supposed to taste a whiskey to begin with. The smell, initial taste, mouth/throat burn, aftertaste and such all play a huge part in the taste of a fine whiskey and you won't truly experience that without swallowing. /pretentious rambling

>> No.9480811

>>9480784
>>9480807
Also Animecon raised the price to €35 per tasting, so it really isn't the "get drunk cheap" thing it once was. A good thing really, it hurts when I think about all that Chichibu Peated (>€250 a bottle nowadays) that was wasted on all those rude people only looking for a cheap way to get drunk.

Sounds pretty interesting actually. Might join one this year then. Just one, because I can't fork out €70 for whiskey tastings.

Any impressive cosplays that can be made with simple patterns? I'm a beginner and bought a few outfits, but these days everyone has acces to ebay/aliexpress so about 20 other people own the same outfit (and often look better in it)
and yes I know "cosplay is for fun" but being the 20th 'ok' cosplayer just doesn't do it for me anymore. /bonus if it includes nice cleavage

Impressive costumes are usually impressive because they're intricate or dramatic and very well done, which takes experience. Cosplayers who are known for their impressive cosplays got there by practicing and working hard for years. The only people I know who attracted a lot of attention as beginners are women with really hot bodies and great tits who were prepared to walk around a con half naked. If you want quick and easy fame, that's the way to go.

I'm not talking about the money. I'm saying your attitude is lazy if you didn't get that on the first read. The other posts implied it in a polite description. I'm just being frank with you and cutting the bs to tell it to you straight.

>> No.9481083

>>9481068
Indeed I am lazy, but what I meant is that I'm a beginner. I own a lot of patterns, but the ones I like the most are like 3 or 4 stars out of 5, so not beginner level at all. Amor, weapons I have no issue with those, or huge dresses that have circle skirts but pattern wise I'm won't be much good. Having a job = having enough money but not enough time.

>Having a job = having enough money but not enough time

Hah
>be me
>fulltime study
>work in the weekend, mostly Sundays, but sometimes both days
>force cosplay work into evenings
>have multiple deadlines

Not saying you're making excuses, but if you practice time management, you should at least have days in the weekend where you could work, or find time around your work schedule. People forget that time-management is actually one of the more important skills one must have with cosplay.

>> No.9481096

>>9481087
My biggest issue right there, I have no idea how to plan. I often work 10-12 hours a day because I feel 'not done yet' after 8 hours. (work keeps piling up) plus sometimes a saturday or sunday. I have so many half done cosplays and supplies but end up wearing bought or halfdone costumes.

>> No.9481115

>>9481083
Look, everybody has their reasons. They do, I'm not even being sarcastic or going in to that. This does not change the fact that effort is what you decide to put in yourself. That's the thing only you have control over. So you have cosplays you like that are 3 stars. What's stopping you? Not enough time. What is not enoug time? You literally have from now till your death. If you never intend to even try making a 3 star, what's the point of owning a lot of patterns anyway? You say that armor and weapons are no issues for you. According to your own reasoning, it seems the only hurdle you have is your own attitude. Get cracking on that 3 star pattern. It'll be worth it when you're finished and next up is 4 star.

ha... totaly agree. having a job =/= not having enough time.
If you really want something you make time.
for me its :
> work full time
> Travel 4+ hours a day for work
> study Part-time for masters
> Help organize a convention
> Still have time to cosplay

*I also make time for volunteering and visit my mom weekly.

With Animecon coming up it's time for me to organise another meet. The current plans are to have one on Saturday. The Gulls on Discord have already shared their preferred times and so far things are looking quite favourable for a meet either around lunch or dinner.
If you aren't on Discord but do want to attend this meet, please speak up now if there any times you prefer or can't make it so I can keep it in mind. On this pic you can find red fields for definitive no-go's, and orange fields for times that don't work well for some of us.

I mean the people who genuinely love the series and get overrun by cosplayers who don't care about or even dislike the game but cosplay from it anyway for likes. To be honest, 'very famous' cosplayers (not from NL) seem to crank out costumes like crazy, but I don't think they always know who or what they're cosplaying.
