What are you up to these days? What creepy thing did you see/hear/read that would make gothic lolitas happy? What do ladies drink when they go to a bar? What films did you watch or what books did you read that inspired you as a lolita? What's your favourite old picture? What's your favourite classical story? How are you making daily life more beautiful?

My area was visited by a metric ton of rain this winter and the wildflowers have absolutely exploded. I'd really like to go out and do some nature walks and flower pressing but my comm is a little snooty against going outside, so I'll probably be going by myself. The flowers are also really inspiring me to start learning freehand embroidery! I want to have seasonal handkerchiefs.

Does anyone else have any fun seasonal activities for spring time?

I'm in the middle of a move and only just got access to my lolita wardrobe again. I had kept a bunch of normie/work clothes aside for the move itself but ended up having to wear them for much longer than intended and it was absolutely miserable. I hate jeans!
The house is still a mess so I can't do any sewing, but I managed to dig up a knitting project and also some embroidery floss. I'm thinking of embroidering a plain cloth bag I had laying around but am not sure what kind of design.

Does anyone know what kind of ribbon is used for ribbon embroidery? Most ribbons I've seen in local stores are either too shiny or made from stiff plastic that would be difficult to manipulate.

Lightweight silk ribbon is the easiest to work with, though you probably won't find it in brick and mortar stores unless your city has a good fabric district. Poly organza and satin are useable too if they're fine enough, but you'll probably want to keep a pair of pliers on hand.

Depends on what you define as a lifestyle lolita. I think everyone has a different definition at this point.

>> No.9444711

>>9444664
It's not as hard or weird as people think. There's no handbook that says do x and x to become a lifestyle lolita, because it depends on what you want your life to be. You could make other aspects of your life fit with your lolita aesthetic, but why did you start wearing lolita in the first place? You likely already have ''lifestyle'' interests. For example, a friend of mine was really into Jane Austen films in highschool, she was sad that we don't wear such elegant clothes anymore and that's how she discovered lolita. Because of that same interest she learned how to dance like they do in Jane Austen films and she loved going for walks in gardens, writing actual letters etc. She started wearing classic lolita because it suited the life she already had. Then, through lolita she also got into sewing and tea and stuff. On the other hand, there are lolitas who discovered the fashion through visual kei and they have a different lifestyle (comparable to gothic subculture).

There have been a lot of articles in Gothic & Lolita Bible that talk about how a lolita should act but they're not serious (eg ''gothic lolitas drink tomato juice''). That's where the ''lolitas should be lovelies'' idea came from. They don't use the term lifestyle lolita like we do, to them it's just being a lolita versus being someone who wears lolita sometimes. They may change the way they act when they wear elegant clothes, but that's not different from how they might have a better posture and manners when they wear kimono, or how you might be more professional and polite when you're wearing a work uniform. Misako goes a bit further and says she tries not to show emotion to be more like a doll and changes her name when she wears ouji(Misao).

Basically, if lolita fashion is not just clothes to you, but an expression of who you really are, you're probably already a lifestyle lolita.

Also reading Takemoto essays, other translated things and learning about the influences of lolita would be helpful if you want to become lifestyle lolita, just remember that in the end it all depends on how you want to live

Me too anon! I live in LA and the amount of flowers blooming is insane, so I've been embroidering them non-stop. I never go to bars and I don't like alcohol or haven't found one I like yet.
Bar ambiances are kinda uncomfy. I rather drink some chocolate almond milk at home by myself with a book. I suck, I know. All of my friends drink except me. But maybe it's also because I'm the youngest (21)

You could consider asking to host the event yourself. It could be an optional nature walk with a picnic and embroidery. The group can go to a nature park or well kept path, and snagging won't be an option. There's lightweight large blankets for sitting in the grass. Remind people to wear outfits that could possibly get soiled because dirt.

Some people just don't prefer going outside, and that's understandable. Only the people who like the idea of going outside will show up, and they'll be dressed appropriately.

I go to expensive hipster cocktail bars that are often also dessert places - they are for sitting around and talking, kinda like a nicer version of my living room with less need to clean up and better ambience. If you're 21 chances are your friends aren't into those sorts of bars yet

Please that would be great! I live in Brisbane Australia though... Where I live there is this fairly classy small local brewery that is amazing. We could get a tasting platter for the beers and enjoy the delicious beer related food. They also do seasonal beers and ales, I just recently had a carrot beer for easter, it was quite fun.

Assuming you live in a different country it would be fun to meet up sometime if we travel, I would bring along some of the more interesting Aus crafts and we can host a tasting!

I had some pretty warm feels when typing it out to be quite honest.

I really want to try out a rabbit themed set of cocktails based of the more traditional/ staple tea party sandwich flavours. Will post about it when I have my findings if anyone is interested?

Well I did discover that one of my fancy teacups holds exactly half of a small bottle of beer. But for the most part I drink them out of pic related. That or you could buy fancy delicate beers. I recently had a delicious Japanese ale that was a delicate pink colour. It was apparently made with red rice. I felt much more refined drinking it than I did drinking your average IPA, and it did taste very delicate and delicious.

I would love that but I live in Ireland. I'm the same, I love beer, but not getting drunk. Even brew my own sometimes, though I mostly brew mead.

You go to bars full of old people. Ha, ha. I'm just poking fun. It's true younger people don't usually pick up on those sorts of bars. However, that's exactly why the enviroment is more comfortable.

My garden is in full bloom! Violets, snap dragons, dahlias, and petunias! I started picking some of them to press to make into resin jewelry for myself, and I'd like to send some in letters that I mail out and for scrapbooking! I can't wait for when they are ready and dried out!

I think I'm going to make a book of lifestyler embroidery samplers. Would anybody be interested in seeing progress pics, or maybe watch a video covering everything from start to finish?
